What if success doesn't have to cost you everything? In this weeks episode, Heather sits down with author and entrepreneur Alyson Caffrey to talk about the unseen emotional labor of being "the strong one." From the moment she checked in with clients after giving birth to her first child, Alyson began questioning the cultural narratives that taught her to grind, produce, and prove her worth no matter the cost. Together, they unpack what it really takes to shift out of burnout and into alignment, create systems that support rest, and redefine success on your own terms. In this episode, they discuss:
Will they go to Aly's wedding this weekend? Jerry keeps getting lopped off but Boomer says it isn't intentional. Boomer is angry at what he calls the misconception that Jerry is always getting left out. Jerry is not being left out of the show trip to Pebble Beach. Jerry maintains that he is not upset about any of this.
Jerry began the show with Boomer, who raised questions about attending Aly's wedding and a Florida trip. Boomer addressed the misconception that Jerry is often excluded, clarifying he's not left out of the Pebble Beach trip. Jerry maintained he isn't upset. After discussing Aly's wedding and differing cash gift customs, they covered Anthony Volpe's performance and the Mets' struggles. Gio arrived later, catching up on what he missed, and a caller confirmed his theory about smaller guys wanting to fight him.
Hour 1 Jerry started the show with Boomer, joined by Gio later. Boomer raised questions about attending Aly's wedding and a Florida trip. Jerry's constant exclusion was discussed, though he denied being upset, especially about not being left out of the Pebble Beach trip. They then spoke to Aly about her wedding. Jerry highlighted differences in California wedding customs (no cash gifts, no suits). They discussed Anthony Volpe's hitting but fielding struggles, with Boomer suggesting time off. Jerry wanted Paul Goldschmidt to improve at first base. The Mets' heart of the order struggled in a 7-1 loss. After a chair swap, Gio reviewed what he missed due to car issues. A caller confirmed Gio's theory about smaller men wanting to fight him. Hour 2 Gio discusses a comet theory and a controversial Sydney Sweeney ad. The hosts dismiss the Nazi propaganda claims. Jerry gives an update. They discuss "Big Intern's" departure and future interns. Cody Bellinger's homer led the Yankees to a win. The Padres beat the Mets. Jose Iglesias had a good game. Juan Soto left with an injury but isn't concerned. A dildo appeared at a WNBA game. Trey Hendrickson ended his holdout. Finally, Boomer and Gio advise a caller on his first golf outing. Hour 3 Gio is surprised Mets fans want Luis Robert Jr., while Boomer and Gio agree the Mets can't give up on Mark Vientos despite his struggles. Boomer is intrigued by trading for Robert Jr. if it doesn't cost Vientos, and wants to see the Mets add pitchers. He believes the Mets will eventually have to move on from one of the young infielders. Is Steven Kwan a better target? Gio wonders why Rob Manfred was in the Phillies clubhouse. Jerry provides an update, but first, Boomer asks which Mets third baseman would be easiest to trade: Ronny Mauricio, Brett Baty, or Mark Vientos? Gio says Baty, Jerry says Vientos. Gio will not be happy if the Mets trade Mauricio or Vientos. The Mets lost their final late-night game. Juan Soto's foot X-rays were negative. Gio observed something new about Dave Sims. Anthony Volpe's bat contributed to a win, but his glove did not. Getting traded must be difficult. Boomer thinks the NBA could expand into Europe. In the final segment, Gio shares an update on trying to go to Streamsong the weekend of NFL Week 1. They could do the show from the resort on Monday, but not Tuesday. The alternate who would go if Boomer and Gio can't calls in, encouraging them to make the trip. Hour 4 Boomer and Gio discuss Giants and Jets camp, with the show at Giants camp tomorrow. They also cover NFL expectations, Aaron Glenn, and a Streamsong trip. Jerry provides an update, and Boomer sets Mets and Yankees trade deadline over/unders. Upcoming interviews include Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Brian Daboll, Dexter Lawrence, and Jevon Holland. The Yankees beat the Rays, and Pete Alonso's reaction might have led to Huascar Brazoban's demotion. Luis Gil returns Sunday. The Mets lost badly. Justin Fields is back at Jets practice. Aaron Glenn is improving the Jets. The Moment of the Day: An object on the court. They discuss NL playoff threats, believing the Padres are dangerous but not the Brewers, and Gio gets angry at fans complaining despite championships.

Song: Loosen Music by: Aly Halpert Notes: Written in 2017, this song by Aly Halpert catapulted its way around songleader circles, shared friend to friend, sung in cars and buses, after dinners, on walks, between dances, around fires, beside rivers and on beaches. I learned it in 2019, and it has accompanied me since through the pandemic, an intense year of many deep losses, over to Europe twice, in groups, with single friends, and alone. Some songs are like sunscreen in summer, a warm coat for winter. You may already know this one; please enjoy singing it with me. It may be new to you -- may it spread wider, carrying its healing, kind reminder to loosen. Songwriter Info: Aly Halpert (she/her) is a queer Jewish musician, educator, and activist living on Lenni Lenape land in Philadelphia, PA, USA. A singer, pianist, drummer, and guitar player, Aly writes songs for building community and visioning different worlds. Aly leads music and prayer for Jewish community, including Let My People Sing, Kol Tzedek Synagogue, Dayenu: A Jewish Call to Climate Action, and Hadar's Rising Song Institute. Her songs have been sung in national gatherings, song circles, and quiet moments of personal prayer, and have moved people all over the world. Her first full-band album Loosen was released in April 2022 with Rising Song Records. Aly believes deeply in the power of music to awaken us to the loss and hope we carry, expand our sense of possibility, and connect us to each other and our collective strength. Sharing Info: The song is free to share in oral tradition groups. Aly welcomes financial and/or networking support, she would like to be contacted re: recording/performing permissions, and she appreciates donations when used by organizations with means.
This week, Joe talks to Griffin of the Pink Place. The DIY venue is in the process of winding down with just three shows left before it closes up shop. However, that almost did not happen. Griffin, one of the people who runs the venue, was kinda enough to talk with me about why the Pink Place was almost shut down early and how they run such a successful venue. The cover photo was taken during a Pink Place show in July of 2024 by Joe Keyport. This week, we discuss the potency of urbanism's gateway drug: summer festivals. Culturally, Americans love to frequent farmer's markets, watch fireworks, and attend live arts shows in the park. We often don't realize that these are all functions of a walkable environment (even if often temporary). Vendor tents are proxies for small shops, food trucks could be permanent neighborhood eateries, and running into friends could be a norm rather than a novelty.Instead of closing a parking lot or street for one night only, what if we planned our cities to facilitate and prioritize community all year long? Also: On nostalgia, Pokémon Go, and the Oregon Shakesphere Festival.Timeline:00:00 Aly's back.01:06 Summer festivities and temporary walkability.02:05 Nostalgia and summertime memories.02:47 Pokemon Go and gamified outdoor activities.07:49 Urbanism and community events.12:18 Navigating festivals and parking challenges.22:45 Festival fatigue and urban living.27:07 Our upcoming trip to Ashland, Oregon.30:03 Wrapping up.

"Chemicals are actually more dangerous at low doses than high ones... they're small amounts, but they're able to do a lot with the size and concentration and power of what they are." – Dr. Aly Cohen I invited back triple board-certified physician Dr. Aly Cohen to tackle the intimidating world of environmental toxins. As a rheumatologist, internist, and integrative medicine specialist, she brings a uniquely practical approach to a topic that can feel overwhelming. What I love about Aly's perspective is her emphasis on making reasonable, sustainable changes rather than attempting perfection. We explored how these small daily exposures accumulate in our bodies over time, the biggest offenders to focus on first, and her practical four-step process for reducing your toxic load without driving yourself crazy. If you've ever felt paralyzed by information overload about toxins, this conversation offers a refreshingly sane roadmap to better health. What you'll learn: Why low-dose chemical exposures can be more dangerous than acute exposures and how they accumulate over time The "Four A's" approach to detoxification that makes reducing toxins manageable Which toxin sources make the biggest impact on your health (and should be addressed first) How clean food and water choices can immediately remove thousands of harmful chemicals from your daily exposure The powerful connection between toxins and weight challenges, including how toxins can prevent weight loss Why filtering your water is one of the highest-impact changes you can make Simple travel hacks to reduce your toxic load even when away from home The importance of adding in foods and practices that support your body's natural detoxification Love the Podcast?
