Bassist, singer and songwriter Richard “RW” Grigsby, has logged several lifetimes on the road, and his early rock and roll roots (Rome, GA near the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains) burst out like another famous Richard from Georgia on “Road Scholar,” his story of a musician who has spent too much time on the road, working for too little pay. It's sung by Red's Blues drummer Tim Wilbur, a pro's pro (2017 Sacramento Music Awards and Sacramento Blues Society Hall of Fame member), who brought creative percussion ideas -- maracas AND the entire group thigh-slapping percussion. “We sat in chairs in a circle and slapped our thighs at certain points in the song to add accent,” laughs Beth. “Jackknifed” (co-authored with fellow road warrior Mark Hummel) continues the road theme with bio notes from their Golden State-Lone Star Blues Revue adventures. RW played with Carlene Carter, Gary Primich, Mike Morgan & The Crawl, Finger Taylor, Mark Hummel's Golden State Lone Star Revue w/Anson Funderburgh & Little Charlie, JamesCotton & all the Harmonica Blowouts since 2008-2019( Magic, Lee Oskar, Kim Wilson, Billy Boy, Jason Ricci, Carey Bell, Lazy Lester, Estrin, John Primer, Duke, Billy Flynn, Elvin, Gravenities, Ron Thompson, Harman, Rod Piazza & many others) 2014 Grammy-nominated and Blues Music Award (BMA) winner bassist RW Grigsby has been playing since he was 14 years old and began his professional career when still a teenager. He's toured the U.S., Canada and Europe since the '80s, and currently juggles playing with Red's Blues, Mark Hummel & the Blues Survivors and The Golden State/Lone Star Blues Revue. He played and recorded with Texas blues stars Gary Primich and Black Top Records' Mike Morgan and the Crawl in the 1990s. RW is the bassist on the 2014 Grammy-nominated and BMA-winning CD, Remembering Little Walter. He was nominated for a BMA “Best Bassist” Award in 2017 and was inducted into the Sacramento Blues Society Hall of Fame in 2018.

Our friends over at American Blues Scene have an article that is quite good about Bridging the Blues. “The Bridging the Blues idea is that the literal bridges are the bridges between Mississippi and Memphis and Arkansas. But it is also blues being the bridge to all other forms of music… and it all came outta here,” said Wesley Smith, Executive Director of the Greenville-Washington County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and originator of Bridging the Blues. He tells of how the concept came about. “We have a B.B. King Museum, we have a Blues Trail…we have arts councils that are doing blues photography exhibits and we have tourism… If only we could get everybody to do what they’re already doing, but get it into one week,” recalled Smith. That week begins with the Mighty Mississippi Music Festival/Highway 61 Blues Festival in Greenville, both beginning on October 4 and running throughout the weekend. The week “ends” with the King Biscuit Blues festival, held in Helena, Arkansas beginning on Thursday, October 10. Between the two festivals, and for several days on either side, are various performances by local musicians, museum exhibits, and tours by preservationist and Delta heritage expert, Luther Brown. Hopefully, visitors will return home understanding how the blues is itself an old and well-traveled bridge, a true American byway of a music tradition that is found time and again in other musical forms. While King Biscuit has a strict blues focus, Smith indicates the festival in Greenville will have a blues emphasis–as Hwy. 61 has had for years–but will combine that with performances from other types of music that find their origins in the rich music of the Delta. Sounds like another trip my wife and I need to take. http://www.americanbluesscene.com/2013/09/bridging-the-blues-from-the-delta-to-memphis/ Tonight Wednesday Sept 11th at Bridge Street Live in Collinsville Ct there is a Tribute to Little Walter at 8pm. The hoppin' little juke joint we call The Roadhouse is full of customers dressed to the nines. The crowded bandstand will keep you dancing on the sawdust dance floor for another hour of the finest blues you've never heard. As the bartender pours a steady stream of draws and shots, you'll be entertained by North Mississippi Allstars, Memphis Minnie, Arthur Adams, Tinsley Ellis, and Sam Myers with Anson Funderburgh. There are just enough slow blues to pull that special person close for a dance. Otherwise, it's all upbeat in the 127th Roadhouse Podcast.
