Jared Jeffries, the director of student ministry at Hope Church, spoke about the power of words as part of a series on the Book of James and dealing with life's pressures. The sermon focuses on the power of words and how they relate to the pressures we face. Jared begins by discussing his love for construction and how powerful tools like excavators can be used to build up or tear down. He draws a parallel to the power of words, citing Proverbs 18:21, which states that the tongue has the power of life and death. He then explores two ways in which pressure and words are related: pressure points can lead to words that reveal our hearts, and our words can escalate or alleviate life's pressure points. Jared uses examples from his own life and a clip from the movie "Toy Story" to illustrate these points. Diving into James 3, Jared highlights three sobering perspectives on words: Words are hard, and we all make mistakes with them. Words are powerful; small words can have a big impact. Words are untameable; no one can control their words on their own. However, he emphasizes that with Jesus, there is hope and help. Our words can be forgiven and controlled with Jesus. Jared then provides three practical guidelines for using words: Words should be used for building up, as stated in Ephesians 4:29. Words can be forgiven and controlled with Jesus by confessing Him as Lord and believing in His resurrection. Words should be filtered through God's wisdom, which is pure, peace-loving, gentle, humble, merciful, and accompanied by good deeds (James 3:17). To gain wisdom, Jared encourages daily Bible reading, prayer, spending time with godly people, and asking God for wisdom (James 1:5). He concludes by urging the congregation to put what they've learned into practice, suggesting actions such as memorizing verses, seeking forgiveness for hurtful words, and writing encouraging notes to others. Jared emphasizes the importance of relying on God to help control and guide one's words. The Hoosiers score a big one! Join Mike Goodpaster, Steve Risley and Brian Mohr as they discuss the Hoosiers' newest addition Mackenzie Mgbako! The Hoosiers look like a Top ten team now headed into the 2023-24 season!Mackenzie Mgbako from Roselle Catholic (New Jersey) signed his letter of intent with Indiana on Friday evening. Mgbako initially committed to Duke in October before opening up his recruitment in April and visiting St. John's, Kansas and Indiana before selecting Indiana as his destination. Mgbako considered Louisville but decided against visiting. According to 247 Composite, this 6-foot-8 forward is currently ranked as the No. 8 player in the 2023 class. He became the highest-ranked high school recruit to commit under Mike Woodson, now in his third season in Bloomington.According to RSCI rankings, Indiana has only attracted top-10 recruits since 1998: Eric Gordon, Romeo Langford, Noah Vonleh, Jared Jeffries and Cody Zeller are the only five. Mgbako joins Gabe Cupps and Jakai Newton as three high school players that will join Indiana for the 2023-24 season. Indiana also recently welcomed three transfers - Kel'el Ware from Oregon, Anthony Walker from Miami and Payton Sparks from Ball State - as part of its 2023-24 roster.Do the Hoosiers now have a roster that can bring Indiana back to national relevance? Only time will tell, but Cosck Woodson is doing a great job of stacking the Hoosiers roster with talented and athletic players.Indiana looks on paper at least as a top ten contender to win a National Championship in the upcoming season; the Hoosier's last National Championship was in 1987, and the teams last Final Four appearance was in 2002 so Coach Woodson has his work cut out for him. Still, Friday was a huge step in the right direction!Make sure to tune in to the Indiana Basketball Weekly show with Steve Risley all year long for the latest Hoosier content. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/michael-a-goodpaster/support

In the final segment of the hour, a jockey calls in to talk about Boomer racing donkeys back in the 1980's.
Hour 1: Boomer spent his night watching the Knicks lose to the Bucks. He also checked out the National Championship game where Georgia blasted TCU. Boomer thinks Gio is trying to do the reverse jinx by saying the Giants are going to beat his Vikings. Gio said he is not doing that, he genuinely knows the Vikings will blow it in the playoffs like they always do. Boomer thinks it's a weird take by a fan to believe your team is going to lose. Jerry starts with audio of Sal Licata yelling at callers comparing Matt Ryan and Daniel Jones. Jerry has audio from Saturday's Devils win over the Rangers just to annoy Boomer. Jerry has audio from last night's National Championship game where Georgia beat TCU big time. Rob Saleh talked about Zach Wilson trying to figure things out, just like he is. The Knicks played well but lost late to the Bucks. In the final segment of the hour, somebody emailed Spike to tell them Boomer once visited his ranch in the 80's and raced donkeys. Mike Tomlin talked about Kenny Pickett and wouldn't saddle him with the franchise QB tag. In the final segment of the hour, Gio is picking against his team on Sunday, putting his money on the Giants. Anthony Gallo was dumped in the middle of dinner and he ended up paying for the dinner. Hour 4: WFAN is running new promos about coming here to listen to breaking NY sports news. One of the promos is about George Steinbrenner dying. Spike is in-studio and said Evan gave him the list of ideas for the promos. Jared Jeffries once called the pride of Indiana. Is a former Big Ten player of the year and an 11 season NBA veteran. On this podcast you'll come to find Jared is not only a karaoke bar all star but a true hardcore fisherman. Jared is the host of the show Modern Fishing With Jared Jeffries and an all around great guy. At moments in this interview it was hard to remember I was talking to someone who played professional basketball for over a decade and not someone who was a professional fisherman during that time frame. Jared talks the talk and walks the walk on and off the court. What I loved about this interview was how down to earth and honest Jared was about both playing professional basketball and fishing. Jared is definitely the kind of guy you would want to go fishing with and that's probably the reason his good friend and fishing buddy is no other then Michael Jordan. In this podcast we hear about just a few of Jared's numerous amazing fishing adventures and fishing with MJ. If you like basketball or sport fishing your not going to want to miss this podcast. Jared leaves us with inspiring words both for future fisherman and other future basket ball players. He connects the dedication it takes to be a professional athlete and top tier fisherman. I'm not going to lie I loved doing this interview. #nba #fishing #jaredjeffries #professionalbasketball #basketball #basketballplayer #sportfishing #biggamefishing #mj #michealjordan

Festival Pass Stories, your favorite podcast on all things live events is back with another episode! This week our host, Pat Tully sits down with retired NBA player, former New York Knick, and Indiana basketball legend, Jared Jeffries. Pat caught up with Jared just before the beginning of pro basketball's main event, the NBA Finals. This has been an unusual season for the NBA, with the national pandemic coming in the middle of their regular season. However, commissioner Adam Silver and the NBA was able to regroup and finish the season in the notorious, “NBA Bubble”. The Playoffs have been intense as ever on the court, even though the players aren't performing in front of fans. Jared Jeffries shares his experience with the Nuggets organization during his time in the bubble, and just how difficult it is mentally for everyone there. Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat, and Anthony Davis, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, are sure to put on quite a show for us at home on NBA's biggest stage. The Finals are always a spectacular festival, but Jared Jeffries recalls his own account of an equally great sports festival, the NCAA Final Four. Jeffries lead his alma mater, University of Indiana Hoosier team to the “big dance,” the National Championship Game in 2002. Jared had a successful college and professional basketball career, but now as a retired player, he has shifted his focus to other avenues. The former Director of Player Personnel for the Denver Nuggets, is a man of many talents. Jeffries was seen as a rising star as an NBA executive, and still has strong relationships with players today. Recently, Jared was the President of Echo Fox, an eSports organization. Now, he's a teacher of social studies and history, but that isn't all he's up to. Jared hosts a brand new show called “Modern Fishing,” where he gives his audience tips and technique on fishing. Festival Pass is all about the behind the scenes stories of festivals that you won't get anywhere else, and Pat and Jared deliver some great tales. Not only do Pat and Jared give their insight on what we can expect in The Finals during COVID-19, but they also talk about the New York Knicks' free agency. Whether it's stories about playing with Michael Jordan, or being in a locker room with coaching legend Bobby Knight, this episode is more than enough to keep you entertained. “You have to make sure every player educates themselves, and finds their own belief system, and what they're passionate about.” - Jared Jeffries Catch the interview on Festival Pass Stories! https://festivalpass.com/stories You can find Jared on: Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/modernfishingtv/ Jared's Twitter- https://twitter.com/modernfishingtv Modern Fishing TV- http://modernfishingtv.com Modern Fishing TV on YouTube- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLDF-HWietzJdjieiRw8cNw Connect with Festival Pass! It's a big Friday edition of SportsTalk Live. Host David Kaplan is joined by 670 The Score David Haugh, Bears Insider JJ Stankevitz and ESPN’s Nick Friedell. Bulls fans are still buzzing after the hiring of Arturas Karnisovas. David likes the move while JJ says this is the first time in a long time he's been excited to be a Bulls fan. Meanwhile, Nick provides a national perspective and says he'll reserve judgment until he sees who else joins the front office and who the coach will be. Plus, Karnisovas has a lot of decisions to make with his roster. The guys debate if anyone is untradeable. Bob Nightengale reports that MLB is considering a plan for the 2020 season where teams will play at their spring training facilities. Teams would be realigned into Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues for the entire season. The panel is skeptical but they just want baseball.Kap is then joined by long-time NBA player Jared Jeffries. All of that, and more, on this edition of The Assembly Call.
