Rejuvenaging with Dr. Ron Kaiser

This podcast episode features Dr. Ron Kaiser interviewing Wallis Pattison, the founder of Bold Not Old. The episode revolves around the theme of aging, entrepreneurship, and challenging traditional notions of retirement.Wallis Pattison, described as a rebel and entrepreneur, shares her personal journey and how she views aging as an opportunity for continued growth and entrepreneurship. The podcast emphasizes the importance of creativity, daring to be different, and thinking fabulously as key elements in redefining one's concept of retirement. Wallis encourages individuals aged 55 and above to step out of their comfort zones, challenge societal expectations, and consider becoming entrepreneurs.Bold Not Old is introduced as a platform that started around six years ago. Wallis discusses how it has evolved, serving as a space for individuals who embrace style, fashion, and a positive attitude towards aging. She explains the process of transforming Bold Not Old into a membership platform, offering resources, videos, and affiliates for those interested in pursuing a bold and entrepreneurial approach to aging. The conversation delves into Wallis's personal journey, her entrepreneurial spirit from a young age, and the mindset shift required to approach aging as a positive and dynamic phase of life. The podcast also touches upon the idea that retirement, as traditionally perceived, may not be the best path for everyone, and pursuing one's passions and purpose can add years to life. The episode ends with a discussion about Wallis's latest book, "Being Bold, Not Old: A New Generation of Role Models," which features stories and images of individuals embracing bold and positive aging.Overall, the podcast episode encourages listeners to rethink aging, embrace entrepreneurship, and find passion and purpose in the later stages of life. Wallis Pattison serves as an inspirational figure, challenging stereotypes and advocating for a vibrant and fulfilling approach to aging.More info on Wallis https://www.facebook.com/boldnotold.com.au/https://www.instagram.com/wallisboldnotold/https://www.linkedin.com/in/wallisboldnotold/https://www.boldnotold.com.auMore info on Dr. Ron https://www.drron-kaiser.com Hosted on Acast. This episode with my friend Keith is quite eye-opening as to how different life experience really can be for others. When it seems like everyone has a similar story to you, stories like his is quite sobering.I truly wish that no one experiences what Keith has had to go through but that's humanity — it can just be dark, ugly and horrific and it has no favourites. Unfortunate things can happen to any of us.As you listen, I sincerely hope that our hearts are open and our hands are quick to pluck out the gold in all that Keith shares. There's a lot in this one. I'm so thankful for Keith and stories like this and I know you'll feel the same. One of the greatest barriers to improving farm productivity in Australia is water.Over the past ten years, GRDC investment in water use efficiency (WUE) research has resulted in significant yield gains and underpinned an evolution in the management of summer fallows and farming sequences across Australia's southern and western cropping regions.Southern NSW agronomist Greg Condon has been involved with WUE research projects for more than 12 years, and in this podcast he delves into the research findings that are delivering real impact for growers.ContactGreg CondonGrassroots Agronomygreg@grassrootsag.com.auMore information- Investing in water use efficiency yields results case studyProject codeCSP00111, DAS00089, CSP1707-019RTX, CSP1703-007RTX, CSP1706-015RMX

Predicting Nitrogen cycling and losses in Australian cropping systems

Excessive rainfall has hit northern growers over the past six months. With water logging across paddocks, growers are at heightened risk of losing nitrogen from denitrification, and it's an issue GRDC is keen to understand better. Recent research supported by GRDC and led by Senior Research scientist at the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries, Dr Graeme Schwenke, found that on average, paddocks with waterlogging could lose 28 per cent of nitrogen from denitrification. To get the complete picture of nitrogen cycling and the conditions under which growers can lose nitrogen from the soil, GRDC has launched a new project to investigate how to better predict nitrogen cycling and losses in Australian cropping systems with a focus on augmenting measurements to enhance modelling. In this podcast Dr Schwenke discusses the state of play on the ground right now, and the value of further research into nitrogen cycling.Contact: Graeme SchwenkeNSW DPIgraeme.schwenke@dpi.nsw.gov.auMore information:GRDC Update Paper: Nitrogen volatilisation: Factors affecting how much N is lost and how much is left over timeProject code: UOQ2204-010RTX

Long coleoptile wheat is getting a lot of grower interest and some new research been delivering some exciting results. This genetic approach is focused on wheat lines that produce a long first shoot, or a coleoptile, allowing for deeper sowing into soil with residual moisture. After successful paddock-scale trials, the research is helping growers mitigate the risk of poor or failed establishment because of unpredictable summer rain and sowing breaks.Led by CSIRO plant geneticist, Dr. Greg Rebetzke, we talk about the research that's got growers and the GRDC excited about the future potential of the long coleoptile wheats.ContactDr Greg RebetzkeCSIRO Agriculture and Food02 6246 5153Greg.Rebetzke@csiro.auMore information- Are long coleoptile wheats an early sowing game-changer?- GRDC Grains Research Update Online, Southern Region 2022 - Day 1, Agronomy & management for a shifting climate (Adelaide & Bendigo)- On-farm assessment of new long-coleoptile wheat genetics for improving grain yield with deep sowing- Early learnings from multi-site, multi-system assessment of new long-coleoptile genetics for deep sowing of wheat

It's rare that one gets to speak with a true raconteur. It's a fitting description for Ben Lewin. His film "The Favour, The Watch and The Very Big Fish" with Jeff Goldblum and Bob Hoskins was one of the seeds that began my journey into watches. Featuring a JLC Reverso, it showed that watches could be something more than just a tool for telling the time. We refer quite a bit to his 2002 documentary "Hollywood Gold", linked to below, which beautifully captures the characters in the Hollywood watch and jewellery scene at the time. The L.A. based Australian film maker, watch trader, and story teller extraordinaire joined me to discuss what motivates people to collect watches, some of the amazing pieces Ben has come across, and to tell some of the most incredible tales of watch trading you'll hear anywhere. If you enjoy the FineWatches podcast, please rate and review! It helps us reach more people and is greatly appreciated. You can find " Hollywood Gold" here: Watch on YouTubeWe'd love to hear your thoughts on the podcast, and who or what you'd like to hear next. Weed seeds and herbicide resistant genes have the potential to move across farm boundaries and between different land uses. A collaborative project, called area wide management for cropping systems weeds, is taking a unique approach to traditional weed control by collaborating beyond fence lines with varying land users across three pilot regions - the Sunraysia, the Darling Downs and the Murrumbidgee irrigation area. Most of us do not want to know the climate impact of our collective flying.Guided by the gentle Maja Rosen , skyped in from Sweden and  Mark Carter author of "The elephant in the sky ", we consider  making a pledge not to fly .Sign up with a new organisation called  - flightfreeuk.org. They accept international pledges. As Maja Rosen said "If we were in the 3rd World War we'd be prepared to sacrifice anything for peace".  What can we sacrifice to slow down climate disruption?Mark Carter says " Emergency action is essential when, as now, events threaten to overwhelm our capacity to respond, when delay increases risk."What are the alternatives? They talk about choosing not to fly, demanding policies for personal carbon quotas, andtransport alternatives like high speed rail, which was modelled by Beyond Zero Emissions as  reducing transport emissions by 28% .  There are many campaigns to ban  new air terminals. In Europe train holidays are booming and conferences are being held by skype. As 95% of world citizens have never been on a plane, we have trouble seeing  that we "frequent flyers"  are making the world unliveable for them.
