Britischer schwarzer Humor vom Feinsten! „2365: Bella Mackie – What a way to go“ weiterlesen
Bella Mackie's debut novel, How to Kill Your Family, sold over one million copies, and now she's back with her second book, What a Way to Go. It's a hilariously dark ‘whodunnit' that centres on the death of an extremely rich yet extremely unpleasant man, Anthony Wistern. In this conversation with Róisín Ingle, Mackie talks about the online sleuths and armchair detectives who inspired one of her main characters and how her relationship with true crime has evolved over the years. We also hear about her 2018 memoir, Jog On, which focuses on running and mental health and she reflects on how that book marked "the beginning of the rest of her life". Later on, Mackie also talks about her quick proposal to her “current husband”, BBC's Greg James, about the upcoming Netflix adaptation of her first novel and about her experience of being stalked by a man she'd never met.

Bella Mackie is terug!! De auteur van Hoe vermoord ik mijn familie? flikt het weer! Uitgegeven door The House of Books Sprekers: Carina de Vroome, Frans van Deursen, Karin Douma
My guest today is Bella Mackie. Until her mid-30s Bella was a journalist, then she wrote a book called Jog On and her trajectory changed - dramatically. Ostensibly a book about running, Jog On was actually a soul-baring account of Bella's battle with anxiety, OCD and depression and how, ultimately, running saved her. It was one of a wave of books that blended memoir with motivation and was a big and unexpected hit. Then, a couple of years ago she wrote the brilliantly titled How To Kill Your Family. TikTok fell on it. Cue 47 weeks in the top 10 and a Netflix series. Not jealous at all. Now she's back with the equally twisted What A Way To Go. In which more highly unlikeable people get their comeuppance. Well, some of them. Truly Bella can come up with ways to kill a loved one you hadn't even dreamed of! Bella joined me to talk about being child-free and building your own roadmap to ageing without kids in the equation. We also discussed her childhood obsession with true crime, how there's not a top trumps of mental health and why she still has a long way to go to fight her way out of the good girl box. * You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org, including What A Way To Go by Bella Mackie and the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me. * If you enjoyed this episode and you fancy buying me a coffee, pop over to my page on buymeacoffee.com. • And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com • The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Juliette Nicholls @ Pineapple Audio Production. After creating the irresistible anti-hero Grace in How To Kill Your Family, Bella Mackie returns with more familial dysfunction, more unlikeable characters and, yes, more murder in What A Way To Go. We sat down to discuss the lives of the super wealthy, her fascination with the appeal of true crime, and finding humour in the darkest of places.
Our first guest of the series is the phenomenally popular author Bella Mackie. Bella's debut novel ‘How To Kill Your Family' was a #1 Sunday Times Bestseller and lined the top 10 book charts for a staggering 47 weeks. It has just been announced that Netflix will adapt the book with Anya Taylor-Joy starring as Grace Bernard. Bella is back with a brand new novel ‘What a Way To Go' which comes out on 12th September. It's a story that indulges Bella's fascination with slapstick murder and the mega rich, something Annie and Bella discuss.Bella is, like her books, funny and raw, in a way that feels so relatable. In this refreshingly honest conversation, Annie and Bella talk about Bella's life living with anxiety disorder and OCD since her childhood and how running and writing about it in her memoir ‘Jog On' have helped her through some of the most challenging times. Bella speaks openly about her short-lived first marriage, her relationship with Greg James (Radio 1's Breakfast host) and the personal growth that is often born out of romantic relationships. They also discuss privilege, not having children and Bella's passionate hatred for wellness. Hope you enjoy! Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. The untitled Vision series that was formerly known as VisionQuest, got a significant update this week with James Spader announced to be returning as Ultron. Little else is still known about the series, beyond the fact that it is the second of two WandaVision spinoffs on the way and that Star Trek Picard's Terry Matalas joined the series as showrunner earlier this year. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the upcoming animated feature film, has been a longstanding and recurring inhabitant of our news docket and conversations, but we were finally treated to our first significant look via the official trailer released by Warner Bros last week. In addition to having the animation showcased, we got our first inklings of the story and characters, with a botched marriage proposal serving as the backdrop for the conflict. Whether you're for, against, or undecided when it comes to Robert Downey, Jr's casting as Doctor Doom for the MCU, there's no denying that the move has catapulted the cinematic universe back to the pinnacle of the zeitgeist and surrounding conversation. The actor had been quiet save for the four words he uttered at San Diego Comic Con, “New mask, same task;” until last Tuesday's episode of the Award Chatter podcast from The Hollywood Reporter, where he shared insights into Bob Iger and Kevin Fiege's direct involvement into the decision, with the latter expressing a desire to, quote, “Get Victor Von Doom right.” Elsewhere, this week's episode of The Official Marvel Podcast shared a slew of comments from cast members of the MCU's other upcoming films, including Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four: First Steps. Ted Lasso, Apple TV +'s celebrated sports comedy, has made major moves toward finally kicking off a long awaited fourth season we learned via a Deadline exclusive. The shows original three season run, which concluded more than a year ago and garnered 13 Emmy wins, left the door open for the future, but that was left largely in the hands of star Jason Sudeikis, who originated the character on Saturday Night Live shorts. Now, Warner Bros Television, the studio for the series, has picked up options for three original cast members, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift, with more expected to be announced soon. RUMOR: Scooper Daniel Richtman is claiming that a fourth Spider-Man film will indeed feature a multiversal story and should start filming next year. A24 has released the first trailer for disaster comedy film Y2K which stars Rachel Zegler. Saturday Night Live standout Kyle Mooney will direct and it hits theaters Dec. 6. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is attached to star in Loose Cannons, an action comedy that is in the process of being set up at Lionsgate. Chad Stahelski, the John Wick filmmaker who has a first-look deal with Lionsgate, is producing. Anya Taylor-Joy will star in an 8 episode series adaptation of Bella Mackie's bestselling novel “How to Kill Your Family” for Netflix. Chick-Fil-A is aggressively entering the entertainment industry, planning to launch original content on its streaming platform. According to Deadline, the fast-food chain is collaborating with major production companies, focusing on family-friendly, unscripted shows, and is also negotiating content licensing and acquisitions. Ryan Reynolds has shared a deleted scene on social media from Deadpool and Wolverine. The scene confirms that Channing Tatum‘s Gambit not only survived the battle in the Void but also has a way out of the wasteland as an interdimensional portal can be seen opening up in the reflection of Gambit's eyes. In an interview with Variety, Tatum admitted that he still wants to make a standalone Gambit movie, adding: “I've been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It's in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige's hands. I pray to God.”

Bella Mackie and her family have been close friends for 30 or so years. And when you're close to a family, you're close to their food. We all spent summers footsteps away from each other's homes in the Val d'Orcia, swimming, walking and attempting to read novels between long lunches, late dinners, Negronis in the piazza piena Montepulciano Bella is no longer just the daughter of our friends. She is my friend. When she and her husband Greg come to the River Cafe, they know the food they want to eat, the wine they wish to drink, and they always request a quiet table. Ask any young person working in the restaurant about Bella's books, and they'll tell you that Jog On helped them through a crisis or How to Kill Your Family was one of those books they could just not put down. One of the only times my friend Fran has been impressed by a podcast guest was when I sent her a picture of me recording with Greg James. During the pandemic, Fran and her family would listen to him on Radio 1 every morning and he helped them through those long lockdown days with a necessary a dose of good cheer. Many people around the country will relate to that story: since 2018, Greg has hosted BBC Radio 1's iconic breakfast show, attracting around five million listeners every day. He's got one of the most beloved and familiar voices in broadcasting, so it's a total joy to welcome him to How To Fail.He joins me to talk about his failures in cricket, in fame and...dog ownership.--Greg James's new Formula 1 podcast, The Fast and the Curious is available to listen wherever you get your podcasts, along with his cricketing podcast, Tailenders, and Teach Me A Lesson with Greg James and Bella Mackie. His chldren's books, co-authored with Chris Smith, are avaialble to buy here.--My new book, FRIENDAHOLIC: Confessions of a Friendship Addict, will be published next month and is now available to preorder - at half price - here.--How To Fail With Elizabeth Day is hosted and produced by Elizabeth Day. Thank you to our Patrons for voting for today's episode! This is a book that sounds so incredible. A woman is in prison for a murder she didn't commit. Oh but she DID kill 6 people, all members of her rich father's family. Now she's writing her memoirs about those 6 killings while a mystery unfolds on what really happened to the person she didn't kill.Or that's what I thought anyway. Instead it's mostly a mean-spirited dick (Grace) rambling for 400 pages. No that's not a joke, that's even written in the book. To quote the book: "Christ, I'm rambling again." This book is painful to read and even more painful to listen to.I promise we don't only read books we don't like. I mean we read an Agatha Christie novel earlier this year and it was awesome! Nate genuinely thought the premise to this book sounded amazing but the author does not know how to write novels. Nothing about this book works. It's easily one of the worst books we have ever read on this podcast. So strap in for a deconstruction of everything that went wrong with this book as we attempt to solve the real mystery: what is this book and what is it trying to say?Support the showDiscord - https://discord.gg/6BaNRtcP8CTwitter - https://twitter.com/wabpodInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wordsaboutbookspodcastBlog - https://blog.wordsaboutbooks.ninja/

DARK MYSTERIES Tuesday and Friday at 2am CET - Wednesday and Friday at 1pm CET (podcast on Sundays). This program is hosted by Madeleine d'Este. This week, Madeleine talks about the book "How To Kill Your Family" by Bella Mackie.
This week, we're obsessed with the con. We've been gripped by Netflix's The Tinder Swindler, and we have a lot of questions. Why isn't he in prison (when Anna Sorokin is)? Why do we always blame the woman? And why is it so awful to admit that money's a consideration when we're dating? Plus, we're talking about Hollywood fatphobia, funny men, and Tesco moules-frites. Frankie's glamming up with nowhere to go, and Charlie's living in a rom-com (minus the rom). To hear more from us, sign up at TheWingwoman.co.uk to receive our free newsletter. Do you stress about presents, family and cooking the perfect Christmas dinner? Well, you can worry no more, we have the top 25 tips to help you achieve a stress free Christmas. In the Book Collective we conclude Bella Mackie's How To Kill Your Family and there's a perfect twist to the ending of this magnificent book. In the Foodie Collective we continue this month's theme of Easy Christmas Treats, and once again Jinty has been cooking up a storm. We talk about grief and the loss of a loved one coming up to the festive period and how to get through this difficult and challenging time. How did you get on with the WI? We ask Lou and the Collective how Jinty's challenge from Mel Robbins is going. Grief is hard at any time throughout the year but can be especially difficult around Christmas time, Jinty discusses her grief from losing her dear dad this year and what she's planning on doing to keep his memory firmly in the family this Christmas. Christmas can be the most stressful time of the year, so we decided to try and help you achieve a stress-free Christmas by going through the top 25 stresses most people encounter over the festive period, there's some fun and swearing and also an underlying message of making sure you ease the pressure off yourself, we have tips from the Collective to help and they really resonate. Our new book for January is The Female Lead, volume 2, We Rise By Lifting Others by Edwina Dunn. The Foodie this month gives us easy Christmas treats and Jinty has made Polish cake from her mum's recipe, but it's not quite the traditional Polish cake, it's the most delicious tiffin based cake and it's also no-bake and vegan! Anyone can make it! The WI challenge from Jinty to Lou and the Collective is working really well, even if sometimes Lou forgets she has now added a new addition to give herself a positive comment when she's high-fiving in the mirror, please give it a go and tell yourself how beautiful and amazing you are…it really does work! Don't forget to join us for our Christmas Party next Sunday where we will be rounding up the year, talking to some amazing guests and drinking and eating probably far too much! Growing up with Type 1 Diabetes In this week's podcast we talk to a woman who has grown up with Type 1 Diabetes, Daisy Hockings-Thompson, Lou's daughter. Daisy talks to us about her diagnosis, the teenage years and how even before getting out of bed in the morning it affects her every-day life. We look at how hormones affect insulin when menstruating and during menopause. In the Book Collective we find out what's happening in this instalment of Bella Mackie's book How To Kill Your Family, has Grace the main character killed everyone yet? The Foodie is all about Easy Christmas treats and we taste some exceptionally tasty treats from Jinty, and finally there's a new WI for Lou and the Collective from Jinty which is Free, but will we be able to do it? There's some exciting news we have launched a YouTube Channel for the podcast, interviews and The 2 Deb'n Maids. Our guest this week is a very special one, Daisy Hockings-Thompson is Lou's daughter and a type 1 diabetic. Type 1 diabetes affects 8% of the population of the UK, it is caused when the body's own immune system destroys cells within the pancreas and the pancreas stops producing a hormone called insulin which we need to give us energy. Daisy talks about her diagnosis at 10 years old and the troubled teenage years and the constant monitoring she has to do every day just to be able to get out of bed. We learn about hypos and hypers and the fatal consequence of both if left untreated. We talk about how hormones affect insulin levels during menstruation and during the menopause and we also learn about the huge financial divide for people that can afford the latest technologies and how even in the USA type 1 diabetics are dying because they cannot afford insulin. You can watch Daisy's full interview on our Womenkind Collective YouTube channel, where you can also catch up with those 2Deb'n maids, Flotsam and Jetsom. In the Book Collective this week we are a little behind so we will catch-up with How To Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie next week, Lou didn't want to put any spoilers out there for jinty! We also announce our new book for January 2022. The Foodie theme is easy Christmas treats and once again Jinty has cooked up some easy (vegan) gingerbread treats and they were yoga poses, they'll make you sit down and eat them with a mug of tea, just what you need leading up to Christmas. See below for recipe There's a new WI from Jinty to Lou and The Collective that she has been trialling for the past week, it's all about self-love and positivity and we think you're going to love it. Please do subscribe to our YouTube channel where you can see our 2 Deb'n maids and catch our latest interviews. YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgmHLcdx28eco-XlkWYwUA Ingredients • 1tbsp ground chia seed • 140g vegan block • 100g dark muscovado sugar • 3tbsp maple or golden syrup • 350g plain flour, plus extra for dusting • 1tsp bicarbonate of soda • 1tbsp ground ginger • 2tsp ground cinnamon Method- • STEP 1Combine the chia seed with 2½ tbsp water, and leave to thicken for 5 mins. Line two baking sheets with baking parchment. Mix the vegan block, sugar, bicarb, spices and flour in a bowl with your hands and crumble until it resembles sand. Stir in the chia mix and syrup. Mix together until it comes together into a smooth dough. Who has time to chill it? I didn't but you may, if so chill for 45 mins. • STEP 2Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to a 5mm thickness. Stamp out as many gingerbread people or Yogi's, as you can, then re-roll the trimmings and continue until all the dough is used. Put on the sheets and bake for 12 mins until golden. Leave to cool on the sheets for 10 mins, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Will keep in an airtight container for two weeks. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jinty-sheerin/message
There are over 2 million people suffering from Long Covid in the UK and 118 million people worldwide. We are still living within a pandemic, it is still claiming countless lives around the World, this week a report in the medical journal, The Lancet, states that Covid-19 has bought health inequalities into sharp focus on an international scale. In this week's podcast we speak to a Covid survivor who is now suffering from long Covid, Lyn, she talks openly about the daily struggles she has living with this debilitating and still being researched condition, Lyn is also in peri menopause and is involved in research with Cambridge University. The Book Collective continue with How to Kill Your Family with Bella Mackie and the story is unfolding and taking on hilarious twists and turns from the protagonist, Grace. The Foodie get ready to stir-it-up this Sunday with a delicious Christmas pudding from the wonderful Nigella Lawson. And we find out what your lockdown purchases were with some fabulous comments from the Collective. Co-author of the Lancet report, Dr Louise Newson, GP and renowned menopause specialist, said: ‘For far too long women's health has been a totally neglected area of research.' ‘I would urge all healthcare professionals, particularly those working in dedicated Long COVID clinics, to ask “could these symptoms be due to the menopause or perimenopause”? But is it dangerous to be labelled with one or the other, what happens when there is a crossover ? We put this question to Lyn Curtis who is in peri-menopause and has been suffering from Long Covid for over 18 months. From the studies with Cambridge University and from the support groups she is part of for Long Covid we learn vulnerability to and mortality from acute Covid-19 infection is higher in men, whereas Long Covid disproportionately affects women, we start the conversation of trying to find out why? Lyn discusses the social and economic facts that surround Long Covid and why gender plays a part in symptoms that can be looked at as hormonal in men and women, but not in children? From Lyn's interview we look at why we are at the tip of the iceberg for long term care and future conditions surrounding Long Covid. So what was your lockdown purchase? We find out some hilarious ones from the Collective, including what Lou and Jinty bought. Lou also recommends a great film, Freedom Writers and researches the story behind the film about gangs in Long Beach USA and a teacher that gives them tools and hope for a future. The Book Collective are in the middle of Bella Mackie's How To Kill your Family, we read up to chapter 11 and find out why Grace is actually in prison, we also get an inside angle on the sex parties, and her plans for murder….it's dark and so very funny. We are reading up to chapter 14 for the next Book Collective which takes a week off next week. Stir-it-up Sunday is on Sunday 21st November when this podcast lands and we go full on Christmas with a delicious Christmas Pudding recipe from Nigella Lawson, and Jinty plans to make a vegan version. Jinty sets a WI (weekly invite) to Lou and the rest of the Collective, as it was National Kindness Day last week, & Jinty gives us a challenge to put our kindness into practice. Liz Ayre & her two daughters are making sure that their loving Father & husband, Mike, is more than a memory by campaigning & raising awareness for the disease that took Mike from them at the young age of 51. This week we speak to Liz, a phenomenal women, who cared for her husband when he was diagnosed at 46 with young onset Alzheimer's, whilst living abroad and bringing up two teenage daughters. She shares her story with the Collective, and we find out what little support is around for families caring for their loved ones with dementia. Our Book Collective begins Bella Mackie's brilliant first novel, How to Kill Your Family and we announce our Stir it up November Foodie. There's a new WI from one of the Collective which happily does not involve us taking our clothes off! Our guest Liz Ayre shares her story of caring for her loved ones with Dementia. Dementia is the umbrella term for over 200 forms of changes in, memory, thinking or reasoning, within that umbrella term sits Alzheimer's. Liz nursed both her husband with young onset Alzheimer's, and her mother with, Dementia with Lewy bodies, whilst bringing up a young teenage family. We learn how friends become a much needed support system. Liz highlights the lack of funding for carers and we learn that specialist dementia nurses are available in certain areas, Admiral nurses, but they are completely funded by donations. We look at the government cuts to social care funding in the budget, and the desperate need for support for families. Liz is using her knowledge from her personal experiences to help others in the same position and she signposts to where you can find help. The Book Collective will start reading How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie, her first novel and it's already dark but very funny. We start to read to chapter 7 on page 96. As it's the end of the month we introduce our Wine Collective and this month's non-alcoholic choice from Jinty is Jukes Cordialities No6. Lou opts for a Marks & Spencer's classic red No38, Pinot Noir from New Zealand, it's a vegan medium bodied fruity red and is a great compliment to your Sunday Roast. Priced at £10 a flavoursome Sunday treat! Jinty once again has been busy in the kitchen, this time chopping her nuts and seeds for a tasty bowl of goodness to compliment the wine Collective. We finds out how Lou's WI is going with her sleep and the B complex she is now taking, will there finally be a good night's sleep for Lou? And, more positive news as Jinty gives you a report from Parliament Square, where she attended the Menopause rally. Along with Celebrities and, more importantly, fantastic Meno Warriors. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jinty-sheerin/message
