Kate Young is a writer and cook. Her award-winning Little Library Cookbooks feature food inspired by beloved works of literature. After a sunny Australian childhood, spent indoors reading books, she moved to London, which suited her much better. She now lives in a converted mill in a Gloucestershire town. Today we're discussing her debut novel, a queer rom-com called Experienced. Our interview begins at 30.00We've got a Substack publication now! On the last day of the month, we share recommendations for two things we reckon you should read/watch/listen to. The beauty of Substack is you can revisit all our old editions and comment on our episode updates to share your thoughts. Come say hi! Mini book club: How to Kill Your Family by Bella MackieA book we both missed when it was published in 2021. This is a witty and wickedly funny crime novel about a young woman working through a plan to kill off the members of her extended family. Grace is such an anti-hero we couldn't help but fall in love with her. We give plenty of spoilers in this chat but we give lots of warnings if you want to skip them. In this interview, we chat about:Why Kate lives in the UK even though she grew up in AustraliaKate's amazing New Year's traditionQueer adolescence and working out what you need in relationshipsKate's scientific study of rom-com (and what it reveals about writing them)Writing cookbooks and Kate's journey into writing fictionBooks and other things mentioned:What a Way to Go by Bella MackieThe window display with Spare and How to Kill Your FamilyUnleashed and Unhinged displayLaura Kay (listen to our most recent interview with her here)Emily Henry Casey McQuiston Harriet by Jilly CooperFollow Kate @kateyoungwrites Experienced is now available in the UK and Australia. Bella Mackie's debut novel, How to Kill Your Family, sold over one million copies, and now she's back with her second book, What a Way to Go. It's a hilariously dark ‘whodunnit' that centres on the death of an extremely rich yet extremely unpleasant man, Anthony Wistern. In this conversation with Róisín Ingle, Mackie talks about the online sleuths and armchair detectives who inspired one of her main characters and how her relationship with true crime has evolved over the years. We also hear about her 2018 memoir, Jog On, which focuses on running and mental health and she reflects on how that book marked "the beginning of the rest of her life". Later on, Mackie also talks about her quick proposal to her “current husband”, BBC's Greg James, about the upcoming Netflix adaptation of her first novel and about her experience of being stalked by a man she'd never met.
5x15 is thrilled to announce a special event with author and journalist Bella Mackie, whose bestselling books include Jog On and How to Kill Your Family. In conversation with writer and broadcaster Alexandra Heminsley, Bella will be speaking about her hotly anticipated new novel What A Way To Go, a brilliantly funny and twisty mystery for fans of Succession and true crime. Anthony Wistern is wealthy beyond imagination. Fragrant wife, gaggle of photogenic children, French chateau, Cotswold manor, plethora of mistresses, penchant for cutting moral corners, tick tick tick tick tick tick. Unfortunately for him, he's also dead. Suddenly poised to inherit his fortune, each member of the family falls under suspicion. And that's when the lying starts... If you're still not over Succession, then the family at the heart of Bella Mackie's new novel 'gives the Roy clan a run for its money, with a murderous twist (Sunday Times Style.) Join us in September for a thrilling conversation about dysfunctional families, rich people, and true-crime obsessives. Praise for What A Way To Go 'Very funny… I inhaled it' - JOE LYCETT 'The right side of spiky and the right kind of fun, with huge personality' - ADELE PARKS ‘I loved her first, How to Kill Your Family, and here she seems to have found a rich and poisonous vein. Think a very English Succession, with just as much intrigue, backstabbing, and narcissism' JOJO MOYES ‘Taut, pacy, seamless… a huge pleasure to read' - MARIAN KEYES Bella Mackie's debut novel How to Kill Your Family was a #1 Sunday Times bestseller and spent 47 weeks in the top 10 in paperback. She is the author of the Sunday Times bestselling non-fiction Jog On, and has written for the Guardian, Vogue and Vice. In 2023 she judged the Women's Prize for Fiction and her work has been shortlisted for the British Book Awards. Alexandra Heminsley is a bestselling author, journalist, and broadcaster. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. The untitled Vision series that was formerly known as VisionQuest, got a significant update this week with James Spader announced to be returning as Ultron. Little else is still known about the series, beyond the fact that it is the second of two WandaVision spinoffs on the way and that Star Trek Picard's Terry Matalas joined the series as showrunner earlier this year. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the upcoming animated feature film, has been a longstanding and recurring inhabitant of our news docket and conversations, but we were finally treated to our first significant look via the official trailer released by Warner Bros last week. In addition to having the animation showcased, we got our first inklings of the story and characters, with a botched marriage proposal serving as the backdrop for the conflict. Whether you're for, against, or undecided when it comes to Robert Downey, Jr's casting as Doctor Doom for the MCU, there's no denying that the move has catapulted the cinematic universe back to the pinnacle of the zeitgeist and surrounding conversation. The actor had been quiet save for the four words he uttered at San Diego Comic Con, “New mask, same task;” until last Tuesday's episode of the Award Chatter podcast from The Hollywood Reporter, where he shared insights into Bob Iger and Kevin Fiege's direct involvement into the decision, with the latter expressing a desire to, quote, “Get Victor Von Doom right.” Elsewhere, this week's episode of The Official Marvel Podcast shared a slew of comments from cast members of the MCU's other upcoming films, including Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four: First Steps. Ted Lasso, Apple TV +'s celebrated sports comedy, has made major moves toward finally kicking off a long awaited fourth season we learned via a Deadline exclusive. The shows original three season run, which concluded more than a year ago and garnered 13 Emmy wins, left the door open for the future, but that was left largely in the hands of star Jason Sudeikis, who originated the character on Saturday Night Live shorts. Now, Warner Bros Television, the studio for the series, has picked up options for three original cast members, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift, with more expected to be announced soon. RUMOR: Scooper Daniel Richtman is claiming that a fourth Spider-Man film will indeed feature a multiversal story and should start filming next year. A24 has released the first trailer for disaster comedy film Y2K which stars Rachel Zegler. Saturday Night Live standout Kyle Mooney will direct and it hits theaters Dec. 6. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is attached to star in Loose Cannons, an action comedy that is in the process of being set up at Lionsgate. Chad Stahelski, the John Wick filmmaker who has a first-look deal with Lionsgate, is producing. Anya Taylor-Joy will star in an 8 episode series adaptation of Bella Mackie's bestselling novel “How to Kill Your Family” for Netflix. Chick-Fil-A is aggressively entering the entertainment industry, planning to launch original content on its streaming platform. According to Deadline, the fast-food chain is collaborating with major production companies, focusing on family-friendly, unscripted shows, and is also negotiating content licensing and acquisitions. Ryan Reynolds has shared a deleted scene on social media from Deadpool and Wolverine. The scene confirms that Channing Tatum‘s Gambit not only survived the battle in the Void but also has a way out of the wasteland as an interdimensional portal can be seen opening up in the reflection of Gambit's eyes. In an interview with Variety, Tatum admitted that he still wants to make a standalone Gambit movie, adding: “I've been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It's in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige's hands. I pray to God.”

Bella Mackie and her family have been close friends for 30 or so years. And when you're close to a family, you're close to their food. We all spent summers footsteps away from each other's homes in the Val d'Orcia, swimming, walking and attempting to read novels between long lunches, late dinners, Negronis in the piazza piena Montepulciano Bella is no longer just the daughter of our friends. She is my friend. When she and her husband Greg come to the River Cafe, they know the food they want to eat, the wine they wish to drink, and they always request a quiet table. Ask any young person working in the restaurant about Bella's books, and they'll tell you that Jog On helped them through a crisis or How to Kill Your Family was one of those books they could just not put down. Welcome to Table 4, Bella. Please rate & review the podcast on Apple podcasts, Spotify, IHeart Radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Thank you to our Patrons for voting for today's episode! This is a book that sounds so incredible. A woman is in prison for a murder she didn't commit. Oh but she DID kill 6 people, all members of her rich father's family. Now she's writing her memoirs about those 6 killings while a mystery unfolds on what really happened to the person she didn't kill.Or that's what I thought anyway. Instead it's mostly a mean-spirited dick (Grace) rambling for 400 pages. No that's not a joke, that's even written in the book. To quote the book: "Christ, I'm rambling again." This book is painful to read and even more painful to listen to.I promise we don't only read books we don't like. I mean we read an Agatha Christie novel earlier this year and it was awesome! Nate genuinely thought the premise to this book sounded amazing but the author does not know how to write novels. Nothing about this book works. It's easily one of the worst books we have ever read on this podcast. So strap in for a deconstruction of everything that went wrong with this book as we attempt to solve the real mystery: what is this book and what is it trying to say?Support the showDiscord - https://discord.gg/6BaNRtcP8CTwitter - https://twitter.com/wabpodInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wordsaboutbookspodcastBlog - https://blog.wordsaboutbooks.ninja/

Me A Lesson“](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/p095y1m1) . How To Kill Your Family“ an verlosung@diffusmag.de.
Denn Rache ist alles, was die Protagonistin von Bella Mackies Romandebüt "How to kill your family" jetzt noch will.
Forgiveness is a big topic and a tricky thing to navigate which is why this week we're discussing not whether you should forgive or not, but the benefits to forgiveness in terms of self-growth, self-healing and acceptance. The long term impact of holding onto resentment can be really damaging mentally and emotionally so we wanted to talk about ways that you can make forgiveness something that serves you, without ever needing to tell the person you forgive or let them back into your life. Everyone's own situation is so nuanced which is why we're sharing a little bit about our own journey of forgiveness and seeing it as something for us, rather than for the person or thing we're forgiving. There are over 2 million people suffering from Long Covid in the UK and 118 million people worldwide. We are still living within a pandemic, it is still claiming countless lives around the World, this week a report in the medical journal, The Lancet, states that Covid-19 has bought health inequalities into sharp focus on an international scale. In this week's podcast we speak to a Covid survivor who is now suffering from long Covid, Lyn, she talks openly about the daily struggles she has living with this debilitating and still being researched condition, Lyn is also in peri menopause and is involved in research with Cambridge University. The Book Collective continue with How to Kill Your Family with Bella Mackie and the story is unfolding and taking on hilarious twists and turns from the protagonist, Grace. The Foodie get ready to stir-it-up this Sunday with a delicious Christmas pudding from the wonderful Nigella Lawson. And we find out what your lockdown purchases were with some fabulous comments from the Collective. Co-author of the Lancet report, Dr Louise Newson, GP and renowned menopause specialist, said: ‘For far too long women's health has been a totally neglected area of research.' ‘I would urge all healthcare professionals, particularly those working in dedicated Long COVID clinics, to ask “could these symptoms be due to the menopause or perimenopause”? But is it dangerous to be labelled with one or the other, what happens when there is a crossover ? We put this question to Lyn Curtis who is in peri-menopause and has been suffering from Long Covid for over 18 months. From the studies with Cambridge University and from the support groups she is part of for Long Covid we learn vulnerability to and mortality from acute Covid-19 infection is higher in men, whereas Long Covid disproportionately affects women, we start the conversation of trying to find out why? Lyn discusses the social and economic facts that surround Long Covid and why gender plays a part in symptoms that can be looked at as hormonal in men and women, but not in children? From Lyn's interview we look at why we are at the tip of the iceberg for long term care and future conditions surrounding Long Covid. So what was your lockdown purchase? We find out some hilarious ones from the Collective, including what Lou and Jinty bought. Lou also recommends a great film, Freedom Writers and researches the story behind the film about gangs in Long Beach USA and a teacher that gives them tools and hope for a future. The Book Collective are in the middle of Bella Mackie's How To Kill your Family, we read up to chapter 11 and find out why Grace is actually in prison, we also get an inside angle on the sex parties, and her plans for murder….it's dark and so very funny. We are reading up to chapter 14 for the next Book Collective which takes a week off next week. Stir-it-up Sunday is on Sunday 21st November when this podcast lands and we go full on Christmas with a delicious Christmas Pudding recipe from Nigella Lawson, and Jinty plans to make a vegan version. Jinty sets a WI (weekly invite) to Lou and the rest of the Collective, as it was National Kindness Day last week, & Jinty gives us a challenge to put our kindness into practice. There are an estimated 10,500 Fish and Chip shops in the UK selling 382 million meals every year, as a woman to work and succeed in this type of industry whilst raising a family you have to be quite extraordinary and succeed in balancing work and home life. Kelly tells her story of living and breathing work, so much so it took over her entire life, but she had a light bulb moment, after seeking out a life coach for her staff Kelly realised it was her that needed the help. Through using the tools she received along with some self reflection she has achieved a life she doesn't need a holiday from. Her 3 tips for a balanced life are ones we should all aim for. Do you think you have a work/life balance? Or maybe you know that you don't? Take part in Jinty's quiz for Lou and the Collective, ensuring you achieve an equilibrium within your life. Liz Ayre & her two daughters are making sure that their loving Father & husband, Mike, is more than a memory by campaigning & raising awareness for the disease that took Mike from them at the young age of 51. This week we speak to Liz, a phenomenal women, who cared for her husband when he was diagnosed at 46 with young onset Alzheimer's, whilst living abroad and bringing up two teenage daughters. She shares her story with the Collective, and we find out what little support is around for families caring for their loved ones with dementia. Our Book Collective begins Bella Mackie's brilliant first novel, How to Kill Your Family and we announce our Stir it up November Foodie. There's a new WI from one of the Collective which happily does not involve us taking our clothes off! Our guest Liz Ayre shares her story of caring for her loved ones with Dementia. Dementia is the umbrella term for over 200 forms of changes in, memory, thinking or reasoning, within that umbrella term sits Alzheimer's. Liz nursed both her husband with young onset Alzheimer's, and her mother with, Dementia with Lewy bodies, whilst bringing up a young teenage family. We learn how friends become a much needed support system. Liz highlights the lack of funding for carers and we learn that specialist dementia nurses are available in certain areas, Admiral nurses, but they are completely funded by donations. We look at the government cuts to social care funding in the budget, and the desperate need for support for families. Liz is using her knowledge from her personal experiences to help others in the same position and she signposts to where you can find help. The Book Collective will start reading How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie, her first novel and it's already dark but very funny. We start to read to chapter 7 on page 96. Have you heard of Stir it up Sunday? Nope neither had Lou, but Jinty explains this tradition is in preparation for Christmas, so this month's foodie is all about using up food and also cooking to traditional family recipes! There's a new WI from one of the Collective and it's all about self-care, Nicky has started a new Venture, vegan candles, and we can't wait to support her.

That was the story of GW2 in the Premier League as Spurs beat Southampton 5-2, Everton beat West Brom 5-2, Leeds and Fulham played out an entertaining 4-3 and Crystal Palace beat some team from Manchester 3-1. Amogh is elated at the 83 points haul for his FPL, but distraught at everything related to Manchester United. Aakarsh is over the moon at Everton being 2nd in the league.
