Lisa Roberts, former professional triathlete turned ultrarunner, is a big believer in developing a Jedi mindset, so obviously, we had to invite her onto the show. After a long and successful career in the triathlon world, including countless podiums and course records, Lisa came out of the gates blazing in 2020 when she hit the ultra running community. Between August and December of last year, Lisa set two-course records, beat most of the men, and won all three ultras that she raced. We are excited to offer you this conversation, especially because we have several Team YogiTriathlete athletes prepping for another great year of triathlon and trail racing. BJ and I love to see these two communities blending and seeing that athletes can have success in both. In this episode, we discuss: - from running to triathlon to ultrarunning - wide runway to goals - being easy and brutally honest with yourself - yin and yang/trial and error - getting better at the entire process, the results will come - navigating the voice of negative self-talk - HALT - the shift to racing professionally - overcoming not being a swimmer - no substitution for showing up every day - accepting where you are now is the road to getting better - the party of her last pro triathlon - the pull to ultra running - road pace doesn't translate to the trail - expectations going into a 100k - pounding the legs for ultras - two-a-days, three-a-days - the FORCE Namaste- Jess

Welcome back for Season Nine! This week on Hashtag History, we are discussing Andree de Jongh, a member of the Belgian Resistance during World War II. She organized and led the Comet Line (or Le Réseau Comète, as it was called by it's French-speaking members) to assist Allied soldiers and airmen to escape from Nazi-occupied Belgium. Between August 1941 and December 1942, she escorted an estimated 118 people, including more than 80 airmen, from Belgium to “neutral” Spain, where they were transported to the United Kingdom. Between August 1942 and June 1944, no “Key Battles” (at least in James' reckoning!) occurred...but that of course does not mean that nothing happened! During the time between the Guadalcanal and Saipan campaigns, the U. S. and its allies launched a series of smaller campaigns to gradually push back the Japanese. In this episode, James and Scott discuss several key Allied efforts that occurred between July 1942 and August 1943, including the Kokoda Track Campaign, the Makin Raid, and the attack on the Aleutian islands of Attu and Kiska. Also discussed are the Battle of the Bismarck Sea and the American attempt to kill Admiral Yamamoto.

A reminder , we continue with the consensual homicide month so a trigger warning is in place - this case in particular focuses on the Japanese culture of suicide, and the whole case revolves around suicide pacts. So please refer to timestamps below as usual, if you find particular points triggering. Between August and October 2017, Takahiro Shiraishi used Twitter to lure suicidal women to his home, saying he can help them die. He strangled and dismembered eight women and one man, only to opt in for the assisted suicide defence. According to the first Annual Report on Deforestation in Brazil, recently released by Map Bimas, the country lost at least 1.5 million hectares of native vegetation, an area equivalent to almost 10 times the municipality of São Paulo. More than half (60%) of all deforested area is in the Amazon, with almost 1 million hectares lost. Between August 2018 and July 2019, more than 10,000 km² of forest was deforested, an area equivalent to almost 10 times that of the city of Rio de Janeiro. A biome is the set of animal and plant ecosystems that have a certain level of homogeneity or characteristics that are close to each other. In Brazil, there are six main biomes: according to IBGE, the Amazon is the largest; the Cerrado is the second most extensive; then come the Atlantic Forest, Caatinga, Pampa and Pantanal. There is also the Coastal-Marine System. It is also in the biomes where billions of pollinating agents live, such as bees, wasps, ants, flies, butterflies, among other insects. This set of species that inhabit systems is fundamental for the maintenance of agricultural systems. They take pollen from one plant to another, enabling reproduction and growth. Without them, the cultivation of soy, coffee, orange and apple, some of the main agricultural products in the country, would be practically impossible, causing a great loss. As in biomes, everything is interconnected. So it is no exaggeration to say that our own survival depends on theirs. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   KIA TEASES 7 FUTURE EVS "Kia released teaser images of seven new electric vehicles planned for production in coming years, starting with a sleek crossover coupe that’s said to be capable of 300 miles of range on a charge. What’s more exciting is the design direction Kia is apparently about to take." says Jalopnik: "The first of Kia’s new electric vehicles will be a “crossover-inspired” design, which just means it’ll be a crossover coupe from the looks of the teaser images. The cars will be built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that Kia shares with Hyundai Motor Group.  Kia claims this first model will boast a range of 500 km, or around 300 miles, and be capable of charging in 20 minutes."   Also: a practical commuter, midsize crossover, a dynamic machine, a long and elegant sedan, and three commercial vehicles.   https://jalopnik.com/kia-teases-7-future-evs-and-they-already-look-like-winn-1846066947   PEUGEOT 208 TO GO ALL-ELECTRIC "Peugeot CEO Jean-Phillipe Imparato has confirmed to Auto Express that the next generation of B-segment Peugeots, replacing the current 208 and 2008, will only be available with electric power." writes Steve Fowler: "The existing 208 and 2008, including e-208 and e-2008 versions, were only launched in 2019 and are available with petrol, diesel or electric power. The Model 3 quickly became the most popular electric vehicle (EV) in the country after its launch just one year ago. The Model Y will mark Tesla’s entry into the much larger SUV market in the country. If early estimates are true, it is already proving to be very popular among buyers. Customers placing an order today are already seeing estimated delivery dates into the second quarter."   https://driveteslacanada.ca/model-y/tesla-kicks-off-model-y-deliveries-in-china-with-special-ceremonies/   5 SUPERCHARGERS OPEN IN ONE DAY "Tesla China opened 5 Supercharger V3 stations simultaneously in a single day in Ningbo, located in the northeast Zhejiang province. The additions to China’s ever-growing Supercharger network went online on Thursday." says Teslarati: "According to an announcement by the Tesla China Supercharger team via Weibo, a total of 48 V3 Superchargers went online on December 14 in Ningbo. Out of the 48 stalls opened that day, 39 were located underground. The Supercharger team invited people to check out the stations during their free time."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-china-supercharger-v3-5-stations-1-day/   WAS TESLA DISRUPTED BY TRADITIONAL CARMAKERS SELLING EVS IN EUROPE? "Tesla disrupted the automotive world by showing electric cars could be high-performance, desirable machines. Elon Musk even said his main goal was to make other car companies follow Tesla’s path before becoming the most valuable car company in the world. We have no idea if Musk still has the same motto, but European EV sales numbers show his wish was granted. More than that, it reveals the disruptor might have been disrupted." writes InsideEVs: "Tesla started dominating the EV market in Europe by October 2019.  Between August 2020 and September 2020, Tesla was surpassed by the alliance and also by the Volkswagen Group. The VW ID.3 was introduced at the beginning of September, and sales kept rising for the German automaker and Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi.  Tesla ended 2020 with around 96,000 cars sold in Europe, a number that was pretty close to that Hyundai and Kia presented, at about 95,000 units. Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi sold around 135,000 EVs, and the Volkswagen Group hit 175,000 electric cars sold last year."   https://insideevs.com/news/466564/was-tesla-disrupted-traditional-carmakers-europe/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles   TESLA AND DALHOUSIE UNIVERSITY INK NEW RESEARCH PARTNERSHIP DEAL "Tesla is renewing its industrial research partnership with the Jeff Dahn lab at Dalhousie University for a second five-year term, with preeminent lithium-ion battery scientist Dahn still at the helm" says Electric Autonomy Canada: "he Tesla-Jeff Dahn-Dalhousie alliance, one of the most watched research contracts in the cleantech world, today announced a new deal for a second five-year term taking the relationship until at least 2026. The extension — with lab head Jeff Dahn remaining in his post as NSERC/Tesla Canada Inc. Industrial Research Chair and the Canada Research Chair in Materials for Advanced Batteries — sees the addition of two new chairholders: Dr. Chonyin Yang as Tesla Canada Research Chair and Dr. Michael Metzger as Herzberg-Dahn Chair. When Electric Autonomy Canada contacted Dahn this morning, he simply added, “The team is awesome.”"   https://electricautonomy.ca/2021/01/18/tesla-dalhousie-university-jeff-dahn/   TESLA 4680 ‘MILLION-MILE’ BATTERY IS ALREADY HERE "January 17, Tesla posted a new video inviting experts to join its battery cell team. The video was accompanied by the song, ‘Honey Bee’ by Don Hinton, in which the cherished words "walk a million miles" ring out. This has become a great Easter egg that indicates the company's success in developing a million-mile battery." says Tesmanian: "Jeff Dahn, shared some details of his research during an Energy Storage & Sustainable Engineering videoconference. Dahn revealed that, after three years of testing, he found that his cells had a lifespan of over two million miles. He has tested his battery over 20,000 cycles at a depth of charge-discharge of 100%, and found that his battery can last 15,000 cycles and still have 90% of its capacity. If we multiply 15,000 by his estimated driving range of 217 miles, we get 3.25 million miles in the worst-case scenario"   https://www.tesmanian.com/blogs/tesmanian-blog/teslas-4680-batteries-that-will-last-a-million-miles-are-already-here   ROLLS-ROYCE SILENT SHADOW PLANNED AS ULTRA HIGH-END EV? Don’t expect a full reveal until later this decade though." according to Motor1.com: "Rolls-Royce already has an all-electric Phantom prototype but it is believed the final product won’t be integrated into the existing Phantom model range. Instead, Rolls wants to launch a brand new model and the Phantom EV currently in existence will be used solely for powertrain test purposes."   https://www.motor1.com/news/466763/rolls-royce-silend-shadow-rumors/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-news   QUESTION OF THE WEEK When did you first know you wanted to drive EV?   Send me your answer: hello@evnewsdaily.com     You can listen to all 965 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically.   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) AVID TECHNOLOGY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY – MILLBROOK COTTAGES AND ELOPEMENT WEDDING VENUE (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER) IAN SEAR (PARTNER)   ALAN ROBSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREW GREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG COLES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVE DEWSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) EDWYN CORTREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERIC HANSEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GILBERTO ROSADO (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GEOFF LOWE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEINRICH LIESNER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JOHN SCHROEDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEN MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KYLE MAHAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LARS DAHLAGER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARK BOSSERT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MATT PISCIONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MICHAEL PASTRONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHANIEL FREEDMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NICHOLAS MILLER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NIGEL MILES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL RIDINGS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAJ BADWAL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RICHARD LUPINSKY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB HERMANS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROBERT GRACE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. It's a rude wake-up call for us all. Brazil's environmental ministry has released preliminary figures showing that deforestation in the Amazon has hit its highest rate in a decade. Between August 2018 and July 2019, approximately 11,088 square kilometers of rainforest was destroyed, a 9.5 percent increase on the previous year.  The dense rainforests of Brazil consume an enormous amount of the world's Carbon Dioxide and release Oxygen in return. The latest data is big blow to all those who are fighting to save the environment and the planet - our only home. Faraway in India, high pollution is a big issue all around the year, especially in winters. According to the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago's Air Quality Life Index, the average Indian loses 5.2 years due to particulate pollution. India secured 168 rank in the 12th edition of the biennial Environment Performance Index (EPI Index 2020) — that measured the environmental performance of 180 countries — and was released by the Yale University in June 2020.  In 2018, India's rank was 177. Let's wake up before it's too late... (Please do subscribe, like, comment, and share if you liked this episode/channel) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/kaj-studio/message

OVERVIEW   Make your health your top priority in 2021, Sagittarius, in order to cushion yourself from the difficult influences of three rare Saturn-Uranus squares, in February, June and December. Too much stress is a key factor in these astrological aspects, so remember your mental and psychological health too, as well as staying physically fit.   You’ll feel pressure start to mount in mid-January, when Mars squares up to Saturn and Jupiter squares up to Uranus. A Mars-Uranus conjunction in Taurus on January 20 th  may be a key factor, as this points towards a very tense situation, waiting to explode; this occurs in your health zone, but this zone of your chart also reflects day-to-day working concerns, so the underlying driver of your stress is likely to be at work. With Mercury turning retrograde in Aquarius at the end of January in your ‘busy’ zone, you arrive at mid-February’s Saturn-Uranus square already feeling a little cornered.   Fortunately, it looks as though your partner and family have your back in March and April. Determined Mars forms a trine to stabilizing Saturn from Gemini, your love zone, and then around a month later to generous Jupiter. Support is there if you reach out for it. However, financial pressure may add to your stress, particularly when the Sun squares Pluto in mid-April.   Jupiter enters Pisces and moves into your family zone in mid-May, and from then until June 20 th , when it turns retrograde, you should find plenty of laughter, companionship and joy in those around you, which will help you to de-stress. However, the Lunar Eclipse in your own sign on May 26 th  is swiftly followed by a Solar Eclipse in your love zone on June 10 th  in Gemini – and this in turn is followed days later by the second Saturn-Uranus square. The work-related pressure you are under may start to challenge even the closest of your relationships around this time, Sagittarius.   Late July through September is the best period of the year for getting your career back under control, Sagittarius, so that you can earn your living without adversely impacting your mental or physical health. Between August 3 rd  and 11 th , Venus in your career zone trines first Uranus in your everyday work zone and then Pluto in your money zone, suggesting that you can create changes to your working routines and structures that will enable you to breathe more easily. This is backed up by an energizing Mars-Pluto trine in early September. By October 18 th , when Jupiter turns direct in the busiest area of your chart, you should be feeling stronger and finding peace of mind through meditation and spiritual pursuits too.   November 19 th  brings a Lunar Eclipse in Taurus in your health zone, Sagittarius, followed by the Solar Eclipse in your own sign on December 4 th . These are likely to be major yearly decision points for you, as to whether you continue to put your health first or allow things to slip back out of control again. With Venus turning retrograde in your money zone over the holiday period, and a final reminder of what’s at stake from the third Saturn-Uranus square in this same period, you may safely conclude that you don’t need as much income as you thought you did and that you’d prefer to prioritize your health and sanity. LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS With this year looking very busy and pressured workwise, it’s your closest relationships which look set to support and sustain you through bumpy patches, Sagittarius. Your love life looks set to continue much as normal through January and February, but once Venus shifts into Pisces and your family zone in late February, this loving support will become more evident, and more important, as you face the fallout from the first of the Saturn-Uranus squares.   Early March would be a very good time to take a stay-at-home break, if you can. Between the 11 th  and 14 th , both the Sun and Venus conjunct compassionate Neptune in your home zone, making it the perfect de-stress retreat. If you’re single, Sagittarius, March is also a good time for dating. Passionate Mars shifts into Gemini, your love zone, early in the month, with Venus moving into your dating zone, Aries, later. In May and June, however, the love picture gets a little more complex. With Venus moving into your love zone, and warm-hearted Jupiter arriving in your family zone, it looks stable enough on the surface. The Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on May 26 th , nonetheless, brings drama or a shock into your personal life, and with the ensuing Solar Eclipse on June 10 th  occurring in your love zone, it seems that relationships will be under stress during this period.   A trine from Mars to Neptune in late May hints at something hidden or deceptive being revealed, while the Mars-Pluto opposition in early June suggests that money, or a lack of it, or debt may be the root cause of any discord in love. This, of course, will increase the pressure you already feel regarding work, as the second of the Saturn-Uranus squares approaches in mid-June. The good news is that this is likely to be a catalyst for good in you taking back control of the work and health situation.    If you are single in September and October, there are hints that a friendship could turn into romance, particularly when passionate Mars shifts into Libra, your social zone in mid-September. Mercury turns retrograde here towards the beginning of October, however, so be careful about miscommunication and unintended offense if you are meeting new potential dates. Venus’ arrival in your own sign in early October will help you to charm your way into (and out of) trouble!   December’s Solar Eclipse occurs in Sagittarius, and this highlights issues of who you are and what you want from life, including in love. It’s a time for being grateful for a partner who has supported you, or for striking out on your own if you are single. Venus turns retrograde in Capricorn, your values zone on December 19 th , so if you do start a new relationship around now, you will want to ensure that you are both on the same page over major, non-negotiable values and key issues in your life. Once Venus turns direct again on January 1 st , 2022, you can look forward with confidence.   MONEY AND CAREER   As mentioned, your everyday working life seems to be a source of pressure and stress during 2021, but that may well be because you are being successful – greater success comes with greater expectations, after all. There are lots of positive work, career and business-related astrological aspects ahead of you this year, it’s just a question of balancing these against the impact of stress on your mental and physical health.   You start the year with Mars in your everyday work zone, so you’ll definitely hit the ground running after the holiday period. You may be trying to drive change in your organization, but you’re hitting a lot of resistance. The core of the Saturn- Uranus square energy is that the status quo gets pitted against new innovation, and this is what you’ll be trying to navigate in mid-February when the square becomes exact for the first time.   There’s a sense moving into April that you may however be trying to run before you can walk with one particular business idea or project. When the Sun squares Pluto in mid-April, risk-taking could impact you financially, and a pet business project could be up against a loss. It’s important not to allow ego to get in the way of common sense. Wait for the Sun-Pluto trine in mid-May to find a way to resolve the situation.   The Lunar Eclipse at the end of May occurs in Sagittarius, together with the Solar Eclipse in your relationships zone on June 10 th , suggests a shift in interpersonal relationships. This is most commonly seen with love relationships, but this zone of your chart also deals with business partnerships; if you run a business, negotiate partnerships or otherwise depend heavily on your interpersonal skills in business, you may see an impact there. The second Saturn-Uranus square in mid-June may pertain to this too.   July and August are positive times for work, career and business matters. A stabilizing Mars-Saturn opposition on July 1 st  helps you strike a balance between pushing the boundaries versus maintaining the status quo. With Venus and Mars both moving into Virgo and into your career zone in late July, you certainly have the tools to shake things up, fix the stress of your everyday working life and get things back on track. A very positive Mars-Pluto trine on September 6 th  also suggests an increase in income or a promotion.   Once Jupiter turns direct in Aquarius, your communications zone, on October 18 th , you should become more adept at time management, effectively expanding the number of hours in your day and further decreasing your feelings of stress and overload. The Lunar Eclipse in your everyday work zone on November 19 th  highlights resistance to your new plans, but the Solar Eclipse in your own sign, Sagittarius, on December 4 th  will help you stand your ground. The final Saturn-Uranus square occurs during the holiday period and is bookended by two Venus-Pluto conjunctions, one when Venus is direct and one when Venus turns retrograde in Capricorn – these may be key moments for you to judge which you value more: your job or your quality of life.

November 23, 2020 — Between August 19 and August 23, as the August Complex fire was working towards becoming the state’s largest wildfire, almost fifty earthquakes were measured eleven miles east southeast of Willits. The first one was a magnitude 4.2, and most of the aftershocks were tiny, with just four of them above a magnitude 3. Cynthia Pridmore is a senior engineering geologist at the California Geological Survey. She says Willits, like most of California, is really close to an active fault. Specifically the Maacamas, which is part of the Hayward Fault subsystem of the San Andreas. We’ll hear from Pridmore and Amanda Moyer, the Earthquake Early Warning program manager at CalOES, which has worked with the US Geological Survey and private industry to roll out three ways to give people a few seconds between the first and second waves of a quake to drop, cover and hold on.

Conor Tallon and Micheal Waldron headed out to Cork's historic harbour with this WORK OF THE WEEK!View of Haulbowline and Spike Island from Cove (1819) by Sarah Grace Carr transports us back more than two centuries to a time when tall ships and fortifications defined Cork Harbour. Close inspection of this pencil drawing reveals the artist's keen eye for detail and economy of line, as she observes the bustle of the lower harbour.Carr preserves a visual account of Cork Harbour at an interesting time in its history. Part of a network of defences built during the Napoleonic Wars, the relatively new Martello Towers at Ringaskiddy and Haulbowline can be seen in the background (left and right) of her sketch. An outcrop of newly-built naval buildings at Haulbowline form the backdrop to sail vessels of different sizes, as a detail of figures embarking or disembarking in the middle foreground lends interest. Rocky Island appears to the left of the scene, while land reclamation of the eastern side of Haulbowline is yet to begin. Cork Harbour was then a principle victualling port (for stores and provisions) on westward shipping routes.Between August and October 1819, and sketching as she went, Grace Carr (1794-1837) was to visit Cork, Kilworth, and Ballyannan during her travels through Ireland and Wales. From 1821, the artist was known by her married name, Sarah Grace Lushington – her father-in-law, Sir Stephen Lushington, was Chairman of the East India Company – while she was also to become a close friend of Annabella, Lady Byron (1792-1860). Examples of her work are held at Crawford Art Gallery, National Library of Wales, and Yale Center for British Art.View of Haulbowline and Spike Island from Cove (1819) by Sarah Grace Carr is featured with two other drawings by the artist in STATIO BENE: Art and Ireland's Maritime Haven, our current exhibition in the historic Long Room (Floor 1). LEXINGTON, Ky. (August 20, 2020) – As the University of Kentucky prepares for the start of the fall 2020 semester, efforts are underway to provide COVID-19 testing for all students planning a physical return to campus. Between August 3rd and August 22nd, testing for all 30,000 students – undergraduate, graduate and professional will be available at no cost to students at five sites on campus. The idea is to create a baseline for university officials as plans are implemented for ongoing daily screening, contact tracing and other health measures. In addition, students moving into residence halls on campus are being provided ‘health kits’, containing digital thermometers, sanitizers, masks and other items, in an effort to promote healthy behavior to reduce transmission of the virus and flatten the infection curve. This behavior includes washing hands, sanitizing common surfaces, and maintaining at least 6 feet of distance from others…otherwise known as the more familiar term “social distancing”. It’s that concept of distancing that is the focus of this episode of Behind the Blue. While distancing from each other is part of the desired behavior our health officials have been urging in order to combat this pandemic, humans have basic needs for emotional and social connection, and members of our society are being asked to do what we aren’t always well-equipped to do in the face of a crisis – nothing. Soccer Laduma Radio — As the Premier Soccer League (PSL) & Nedbank Cup resumption approaches, two sides have it harder than most: Mamelodi Sundowns & Bidvest Wits. Between August 8th & September 5th, Masandawana and 'The Clever Boys' will have to play their remaining nine PSL fixtures, as well as a Nedbank Cup semi-final. This also means that one of the two sides will have an 11th fixture in the form of a Nedbank Cup final. Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane took to Twitter to warn fans of the tough road ahead, stating, “It is going to be an extremely bumpy ride. Buckle up, Masandawana. We are going to need something special to fight to get the last two trophies!" As usual, his statements caused debate among PSL supporters as Mosimane has become a popular, yet divisive figure in the media in recent years. “I agree with Pitso. How can a team play 10 games in 29 days? God loves all of us. I know we will do it. Good luck downs”, one supporter told SL Radio’s Fan Reaction Show Podcast. Another supporter claimed, “It’s just Pitso Mosimane playing mind games, he’s just up to his old tricks and no-one should listen to coach Pitso at all because we have seen this movie before.”

Not just for a little while, but for over a 130 years and counting! Between August 31st and November 9th in 1888 a man the world refers to as Jack the Ripper brutally murdered 5 women in cold blood. Why did he do it? Was it a cover up to "protect" the royal family? Did he just hate women? Did he think he was just cleaning up the streets? The brutality involved in the 5th murder is to this day one of the most horrific crime scenes ever photographed! How could one man be so evil to do these things and get away with it? Or, was it that everyone was searching for one person to pinpoint.. Perhaps, just perhaps it was a group of people... This week its all about the scandal of the Concentration Camps which breaks across Great Britain as the Fawcett Commission releases its initial report. We also continue to monitor General Christiaan de Wet who has a large commando of 700 men and is beginning the move towards the Cape once more. His plan is to increase the pressure on the English although his previous attempt a few months before ended in failure. But first, a reality check for Lord Kitchener who has led what has become known as the Drives across Southern Africa where tens of thousands of British troops have been mopping up the remnants of the guerrilla commandos, but at a cost. The Boer women and children have been herded into Concentration Camps along with their black workers and this has turned into a catastrophe. As Emily Hobhouse realised more than 9 months ago, squeezing civilians into camps without proper hygiene or sanitation is a disaster waiting to happen. The country didn't have long to wait. The Fawcett Commission was made up of a fairly diverse group of women. It was a daring experiment, a women-only commission which would investigate conditions in the Concentration Camps and compile a report which would be given to the Government in December. Between August and December they steamed up and down the veld in their special train. They may have had diverse backgrounds but they were all united in one thing – they believed that the war against the Boers was just and that the civilians were part of the Boer support network and therefore should be punished. Led by Mrs Millicent Fawcett, a liberal unionist and feminist, she was also a leader of the women's suffragette movement. Lady Knox was the wife of Major General General Sir William Knox, who was on Kitchener's staff. The four other women included a nurse from Guy's Hospital two doctors who were already living in South Africa.

Steve Bullock and self-help guru Marianne Williamson. A recent survey of 1,000 Republican and Republican-leaning college students has found that 73 percent of them have hidden their political views in the classroom — because they’re worried that exposing them could negatively impact their grades. A column in The New York Times Tuesday cited a Pew Research Center survey which found that Americans currently hold an unfavorable view of the Democratic party. According to the poll, 45 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the Democrats, compared with 52 percent who hold an unfavorable view. Last September, ahead of the 2018 midterms, the numbers told a different story. Fifty-three percent of Americans had a favorable opinion of Democrats prior to the election, compared to 42 percent who had an unfavorable opinion. While the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has cut down on the number of border crossers and illegal aliens they release into the United States interior, the agency continues to release nearly 130 individuals a day. Between August 27 and September 2, DHS released about 900 border crossers and illegal aliens into the interior of the U.S. This indicates that at current rates, DHS is releasing a little more than 128 border crossers and illegal aliens every day — a slight drop compared to the 192 border crossers and illegal aliens who were released every day between July 23 and August 26.

Wide Open Walls (WOW) is the official name for Sacramento's annual mural festival, now in its second year. Between August 10-20, 2017, 50 artists from 12 countries are painting 40 individual surfaces, from small-business walls and back-street alleys on the Grid to silos and water towers in the suburbs. When they look around Sacramento, what will catch their eye? When they put down their brushes and paint-sprayers, what will they leave behind for us? Street art is a big deal around the globe -- think Montreal with its own famous Mural Festival, Wynwood Walls in Miami, San Francisco's Mission District. As the capital of the (currently) 5th largest economy in the world, is it Sacramento's time to join the ranks of international cities known for their colorful, vibrant street-art scenes and communities? If so, what should those look like? What images should be on those walls? Who decides what they should be and where they should go? And how do the non-painters of us living here figure into creating a world-class street-art scene in Sacramento? We hosted a WOW-focused panel on August 9, 2017, at Beatnik Studios, which showed work from every local artist participating in WOW. PANELISTS * Raphael Delgado, a Sacramento artist who recently returned from a residency in Montreal, home to the largest street art festival in North America -- his WOW mural will be on the wall of Jalapeño's on 21st Street in Midtown Sacramento * David Sobon, founder and producer of Wide Open Walls, and a member of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission * Mike Testa, the brand-new CEO of Visit Sacramento, the city's convention and visitors bureau, which is a big sponsor of Wide Open Walls * Demetris "BAMR" Washington, a Sacramento-based artist who has painted more than 20 murals throughout the city, with his latest one being for WOW and located in South Sacramento PODCAST TIMEFRAME * 0 to 1:50 - Intro to California Groundbreakers * 1:50 min - "'Hey, I curate a gallery, come jump in my car!" - - The panelists introduce themselves * 5:20 min - "It was nothing more than being inspired by walking the dog with my wife in the alleys of Sacramento" - Comparing and contrasting last year's inaugural mural fest to this year's WOW * 11:20 min - "It's something that media will be interested in across the country" - How (and why) the City of Sacramento is supporting WOW * 15:15 min - "They're so into what we are doing, so we have to dictate the trends" - How Raphael Delgado gets inspired, both here in town and outside the U.S. * 19:05 - "They have something to say, so they use my voice" - How BAMR does his murals * 22:05 - "We'd like to give everybody complete control, but we also have sponsors that need to be taken care of" - What WOW artists are told before they start painting * 25 min - "It's 90 feet wide, 25 feet tall and it's filled with poetry" - Should Sacramento's street art reflect the city itself? * 31:50 min - "Put us in the ring with the best in the world. We'll be all right" - What's the right mix of international artists and local artists for the WOW festival? * 37:15 min - "We're going to go paint in areas that are not cool" - Incorporating residents and the community into WOW * 44:55 min - "You're living in a dream world" - The artist/sponsor collaboration, and how that affects the final work * 50:10 min - "Find people who are willing to push" - Cutting the red tape to get artists working more closely with businesses, nonprofits and government agencies * 58:05 min - "It boosts the esteem of an entire community of people" - the political and economic impact of WOW * 1 hr, 2 min - "Great ideas are only great ideas unless people take them off the paper they're written on" - When did this start happening in Sacramento? * 1 hr, 6 min - "Suddenly we see not only Downtown and Midtown full of murals, but the entire region" - What the goal is after WOW ends on August 20

Abstract A dense population of the purple sulfur bacterium Amoebobacter purpureus in the chemocline of meromictic Mahoney Lake (British Columbia, Canada) underwent consistent changes in biomass over a two year study period. The integrated amount of bacteriochlorophyll reached maxima in August and declined markedly during early fall. Bacteriochlorophyll was only weakly correlated with the light intensity and water temperature in the chemocline. In the summer, bacterial photosynthesis was limited by sulfide availability. During this period the intracellular sulfur concentration of A. purpureus cells decreased. A minimum concentration was measured at the top of the bacterial layer in August, when specific photosynthetic rates of A. purpureus indicated that only 14% of the cells were photosynthetically active. With the exception of a time period between August and September, the specific growth rates calculated from CO2 fixation rates of A. purpureus were similar to growth rates calculated from actual biomass changes in the bacterial layer. Between August and September 86% of the A. purpureus biomass disappeared from the chemocline and were deposited on the littoral sediment of Mahoney Lake or degraded within the mixolimnion. This rise of cells to the lake surface was not mediated by an increase in the specific gas vesicle content which remained constant between April and November. The upwelling phenomenon was related to the low sulfur content of A. purpureus cells and a low resistance of surface water layers against vertical mixing by wind.
