#mindparachutes, #developpementpersonnel, #devperso, #estimedesoi, #confiance, #confianceensoi --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mindparachutes/message

Lisa Roberts, former professional triathlete turned ultrarunner, is a big believer in developing a Jedi mindset, so obviously, we had to invite her onto the show. After a long and successful career in the triathlon world, including countless podiums and course records, Lisa came out of the gates blazing in 2020 when she hit the ultra running community. Between August and December of last year, Lisa set two-course records, beat most of the men, and won all three ultras that she raced. We are excited to offer you this conversation, especially because we have several Team YogiTriathlete athletes prepping for another great year of triathlon and trail racing. BJ and I love to see these two communities blending and seeing that athletes can have success in both. In this episode, we discuss: - from running to triathlon to ultrarunning - wide runway to goals - being easy and brutally honest with yourself - yin and yang/trial and error - getting better at the entire process, the results will come - navigating the voice of negative self-talk - HALT - the shift to racing professionally - overcoming not being a swimmer - no substitution for showing up every day - accepting where you are now is the road to getting better - the party of her last pro triathlon - the pull to ultra running - road pace doesn't translate to the trail - expectations going into a 100k - pounding the legs for ultras - two-a-days, three-a-days - the FORCE Namaste- Jess

He was born with the tibia bones missing in his legs. His mother decided to have his legs amputated at age one to improve his mobility. The cost of affording his prosthetic legs was so high it led to the family leaving their home when he was age seven and enduring several years of homelessness, before settling in Birmingham, AL, United States of America, with the help of friends and other family. Because of a tough childhood, Sewell was forced to live homeless in San Diego. When he became involved with the Challenged Athletes Foundation, an organization that helps to provide disabled athletes with a path to success as well as running legs, his life quickly changed for the better.. He won gold in his international debut at the 2014 Para Pan Pacific Championships in Pasadena. He learned how to swim by his coach and mentor, Alan Voisard, at the Mission Valley YMCA in San Diego when he was ten years old. After getting ahead of Dixon’s record pace right from the start, she never looked back, and Linden’s final time worked out to an average pace of 3:36 per kilometre. Lionel Sanders, Skye Moench take IRONMAN 70.3 Texas titles This excerpt from the story on the Tri227 site - Womens: Moench, who won the memorable IRONMAN European Championship, Frankfurt as Sarah True faded in the final stages in the heat ran a strong 1:20:43. While that gave up more than five minutes to the speedy feet of Jeanni Metzler (RSA), it was enough to take the win. Sophie Watts (USA) completed the podium, ahead of Heather Jackson and Morrison, who finished the day in fifth. Mens: Sanders held strong at the front over the second half of the run too, clocking a 1:11:11 half marathon and a winning margin of just over a minute, from Ben Kanute who battled Sam Long all through the run, making the pass in the last half mile to reach the line just five seconds ahead of the fast-improving youngster. Neither could relax, with Matt Hanson’s best of the day 1:09:16 leaving him just nine seconds short of a podium finish. In Galveston Texas, not only did the Colorado pros make a big impact, but one well known age grouper, Betsy Mercer raced in redemption of her 2019 attempt in Galveston where she was stopped 100 yards from the finish line because of weather. At Cherry Creek State Park, The Barking Dog Duathlon kicked off the multi-sport season with about 150 athletes racing. Betsy finished fourth in her age group but cried at the finish line, not because she finished, but because her friend Michael Jones finished his first 70.3. Said Betsy, “I didn’t cry this time when I crossed the finish line, I cried when Michael did. That’s the beauty of triathlon, the community you’re a part of.” Ride or Die, a Women’s Cycling Movement Matt Miller, owner of BASE Performance invited me to ride last Saturday, not an uncommon invitation as we have ridden many times. I had sort of decided to do a different ride in Denver. But Matt, said I might want to make the effort as there could be as many as 80 people riding, some from the BASE team and this new group he is sponsoring called Ride or Die. Of course I was intrigued. As it turned out the groups left at different times and when the BASE team left the other group hadn’t arrived. Three hours later upon my return, the parking lot at BASE headquarters was filled with women cyclists all buzzing from a ride. Some were friends of mine who I had no idea would be there. There was a cooler of drinks and prizes and swag and I felt a fun energy. I asked my friend Becky Furuta, no stranger to the peloton from the highest levels about what I was seeing. I know they had ridden some gravel, and some road. I saw bikes of all sorts. I didn’t know anything about this group. Becky described it as, “grassroots racing and riding, the goal is fun and camaraderie without all the staunchness and elitism that’s driving people away from the road. There’s a sense of community and fun absent the usual rivalries. I think that’s really the point of these beginner/community rides – not that they’re easy or for beginners, but that they’re accessible at every level and focused on mixing training with fun and a social component. It’s a sustainable model, and I hope it sticks around.” PRIMAL & 303 Endurance Indoor Cycling Class, led by Bill Plock Date: Every Wednesday till it warms up Time: 12:00 Noon MST Price: FREE Place: ZOOM (Click Here) ZOOM Passcode: H49LJK Join The Ride Video of the Week: 2019 IRONMAN World Championship: Roderick Sewell Upcoming Interviews: Michael Murphy is a motivational speaker, paralyzed athlete, and writer. On this 249th episode of "Marketing Today," host Alan Hart speaks with Jonathon Morgan, the founder and CEO of Yonder, an AI company that helps Fortune 500 communication teams identify and counteract online disinformation about issues that matter to their organization. In this episode, Morgan talks about the power of groups with extreme ideals and how thought radicalization can mean something different for marketers. Our conversation starts with understanding Yonder's mission and how the company originated. Early in his career, Morgan conducted internet research, advising the state department on how they could counter the impact of online radicalization worldwide. Morgan explains that the modern concept of the internet is based on a fundamental premise — "there is wisdom in the crowd." He soon found out, however, that "if you value crowds, you inadvertently value mobs," and that someone who manipulates social platforms can have an immeasurable amount of power in swaying the crowd's thinking. From there, Morgan provides insights on the pros and cons of social media censoring and how easily misinformation and extremist ideals can leak into mainstream media. Finally, he talks about how the idea of radicalization isn't always a bad thing when it comes to brand marketing. In this episode, you'll learn: The vulnerability of the internet and our social ecosystem What contributes to the origins of radical groups and how misinformation can spread The difference between good and bad radicalization The importance of authentically communicating your company's values How to build a coalition for your brand and leverage communication better Key Highlights: [02:16] Yonder's mission and how they got started [05:46] How a person can have an incredible influence on the way the public thinks [07:44] Motivations behind a mob; looking at the riots on the Capitol [11:17] The pros and cons of censoring on social platforms [15:21] How radical ideals spread into mainstream media [18:40] When radicalization isn't always a bad thing [24:00] Jonathon's advice to brand marketers about building a network [32:53] How taking a stand is complicated but essential [35:02] An experience that defines Jonathon made him who he is today [36:27] Jonathon's advice to his younger self [37:38] An impactful purchase Jonathon has recently made [41:15] The brands, companies, and causes Jonathon follows [42:38] What Jonathon thinks is the biggest opportunity for marketers today Resources Mentioned: Yonder Jonathon Morgan - CEO of Yonder, his personal site The prior episode on Marketing Today with Lisa Roberts, CMO at Yonder 4Chan (Wikipedia) QAnon (Wikipedia) Overton Window (Wikipedia) Coalition Building (Wikipedia) Alan's dream weights and workout equipment - Rogue Fitness Queen's Gambit (Netflix) Example Chess Set Subscribe to the podcast: Listen in iTunes (link: http://apple.co/2dbdAhV) Listen in Google Podcasts (link: http://bit.ly/2Rc2kVa) Listen in Spotify (Link: http://spoti.fi/2mCUGnC ) Connect with the Guest: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathonmorgan/ https://twitter.com/jonathonmorgan https://twitter.com/therealyonder Connect with Marketing Today and Alan Hart: http://twitter.com/abhart https://www.linkedin.com/in/alanhart http://twitter.com/themktgtoday https://www.facebook.com/themktgtoday/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/marketing-today-with-alan-hart/ Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/marketingtoday See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

During this 216th episode of “Marketing Today,” host Alan Hart interviews Lisa Roberts, the chief marketing officer at Yonder, an AI SaaS company. Today, we talk about Roberts' long history in Texas and then move into how her work at Yonder applies to recent waves of communication about coronavirus and the protests for racial equality and social justice. We talk about the implications these waves have for brands and marketers and what Roberts thinks we need to be watching. Roberts shares how Yonder helps brands understand their market by looking at the activity of highly aligned online groups. She says, “If you can understand how ideas originate and take hold online, you can understand the groups and motivation behind those ideas." We talk about how marketers can break down complex conversations to understand where individual narratives emerge and spread. Roberts discusses the reality of what brands will need to go through as they decide how to respond to current events. She reminds us, “There is no playbook for what we're going through right now.” She shares the advice she’s giving to brands as they navigate this new territory. This discussion underscores the importance of knowing which conversations to pay attention to today. The technology council of Kansas has had a solid year of growth in 2019, as we learned when we talked with Lisa Roberts, the executive director of FlagshipKansas and Stan Finger, a writer for the technology council, both of whom joined us for the interview. Growth has been fantastic after starting a year ago with 50 charter members, the organization has grown to 23,000 members and an additional 58,000 student members. Many of the universities in Kansas have paid for the student members making it free for students to join and participate. Stan Finger joined FlagshipKansas to write a number of stories about the initial charter members and we discussed a really interesting story he is working on about teaching coding and programming skills to inmates at the Topeka Women’s Correctional Facility. With this training, women upon release can use their new coding skills to get great paying jobs in the Kansas technology industry. Most of the students in the first class didn’t have any sort of coding skills before taking the classes and now see a better future for them. We also talked about the value of including a diverse set of backgrounds to improve the ability of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Greater diversity is something that the technology industry recognizes the need for diversity in programming. For the industry having women in programming jobs will help to bring some of that diversity in thought that will benefit the industry. In addition to the coding training in programing languages the training covers the soft skills development that so needed to be effective team members in technology settings. The Last Mile program was founded by a venture capitalist that visited inmates in a California prison and saw in them a strong desire to improve them. It started a training program that now is in five states including Kansas. An interesting fact is the number of applicants for the program has doubled from the first class to the second class, starting soon.– For 2020 the technology council has a number of programs on their agenda. Machine Learning and AI is a topic of interest to insure this technology is used for good. So the council will be studying the potential for inherent basis. FlagshipKansas will also be participating in the first Data Analytics Showcase, at Wichita State University on April 17 at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex. he showcase aims to deepen the understanding of research advances, curricular programs, top software, hardware and skill-building. The event will create a venue for campus researchers, community representatives and industry experts in Wichita to build professional networks, discuss analytics and develop collaborations. Students, faculty, staff and community members are able to attend the event for free. Working with a variety of educational boards of education and school districts the council is striving to revise and implement now policies around Computer Science Education and computational thinking as it relates to computer science. This shift in the education approach is more about applying scientific methods more than teaching basic computer skills. Lisa also introduced us to Sarah Bond a student Bioengineering major at Wichita State that as contestant in Miss Kansas competitions makes science education a part of her platform. Lisa also announced a Cyber Security conference at Groover Labs, March 26, organized by the technology council and a workshop with students from Friends University to help participants insure there personal devises are properly cyber secure before they leave the workshop. Our guest this week is Jennifer Conroyd of Fluid Running is joining us to confirm that "aqua jogging" as we called it in the Tim O'Donnell interview is in fact the next big thing. Jennifer is an Ironman finisher and also a 15 time Boston Marathon qualifier. She is an expert on fluid running and is here to tell us all about how to do it right, the science behind it, and why more and more professional athletes are turning to it. Thanks to last weekend's guest, Leadville 100 Trail Run finisher Jason Cohen and his journey to transform himself from a body weight of nearly 300lbs to the fighting weight of an ultramarathoner. You can listen to the interview on episode #215. Jason mentioned his weight loss competition that he has with his peers who were also obese at the time. I did that a couple of times early in my career with co-workers. First was my 30's and we called it "battle of the fatties". The second time was in my early 40's, different job when I was traveling to Virginia every week. Again, we called the competition "battle of the fatties" and we did it as a percent of weight loss over two months. I mentioned during the interview with Jason that was 179, which is about 10 pounds heavier than I want to be at this time of the year. One of my athletes that I coach, Matt, is about the same weight and we both want to lose 10 pounds. Our goal is to get to 170 by St. Patrick's Day on March 17th. She is an avid athlete, Boston Marathoner and Ironman. Jennifer discovered the benefits of deep water running when she sustained an injury while training for the Chicago Marathon. Due to her injury, she could no longer train by running on the road, so she took to the pool and ran solely in deep water for the six weeks leading up to the marathon. She not only finished the marathon but qualified for the Boston Marathon. Amazed by her successful finish, she created Fluid Running in 2011 with the goal of helping other injured runners. Fluid Running was voted as one of the Top 20 Best Workouts in America by Men’s Journal. Let's get into the interview now with Jennifer Conroyd. Sponsor - Riplaces: Riplaces are my favorite lace system. Riplaces are the most comfortable, durable and clean-looking system you can lace into your shoes. If you want faster transitions, go to MHE Sponsor Discounts page by going to www.milehighendurance.com, or directly to https://www.riplaces.com/collections/mile-high-endurance Fluid Running Discussion: I just heard another interview on another podcast I listen to with pro triathlete, Lisa Roberts, who talked about how she used deep water pool running to train during running injuries. I've now done three sessions, one using the app and a Jennifer Conroyd led training session. The other two were at the end of my swims, where I spent 10-15 minutes with the Fluid Running belt only and just run. I keep forgetting to bring my heart rate monitor, but I'm eager to see how high I can get it in water. I know so many people who are sidelined from running right now due to running injuries and talked with them about pool running as an option. The first reaction I get is, "you mean that thing that the old people do with the floaty belt?" There's a stigma that is the discussion here. We are evolutionarily hard wired to not show weakness. If that's what the old and feeble are doing, I can't be associated with that. Older athletes (yes, they are athletes…just older), have been in their bodies longer and know what's good for it. And yes, many of them can't take the pounding of running so they are staying fit. I've listed about a half dozen great links to more information from Fluid Running here in the show notes. There will also be a section in the Resources page before the end of the weekend. Here's an excerpt: "central blood volume is increased through the redistribution of venous blood and extracellular fluid from the lower to the upper part of the body in the same way as during face immersion reflex (Campbell, Gooden, & Horowitz, 1969). As a result of the increase in plasmatic volume in the central part of the body, the heart and central circulation are distended, leading to stimulation of volume and pressure receptors of these tissues, which in turn leads to a re-adaptation of the cardiovascular system, The authors are with Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Laboratory of Research on Exercise, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Hydrostatic Weight and Heart Rate in Immersion 179 increasing central venous pressure, cardiac output, and stroke volume, and finally lowering HR (Watenpaugh, Pump, Bie, & Norsk, 2000). Last week we discussed the TrainingPeaks University course, 'The Science of Endurance Hydration'. I'm still taking it and want to complete it before I give my report. Mayor Michael Hancock on Thursday announced the new three-pronged approach, alongside Denver Transportation and Infrastructure Director Eulois Cleckley. The accelerated plan will coordinate striping bike lanes when streets are paved; install “high comfort” lanes that include physical barriers to separate cyclists from cars; and “significantly” expand the bike network in the city’s most densely populated areas, like northwest and central Denver, to increase the number of households within a quarter-mile of a high comfort bikeway. Hancock on Thursday said that the “reality is we’re ushering in the bicycle revolution in Denver, Colorado,” Denverite reported. “I grew up in the city. We didn’t have bike lanes. We rode our little Huffys without bike lanes, protected or striped. And today we get a chance to see a city committing to creating comfort lanes for people to ride their bikes.” Closing: Please support our affiliate brands that support the show and help you get faster! To be honest I was a little apprehensive at first because last year Lisa accepted a public warning for an anti-doping rule violation. However, Lisa was awesome and open about the whole thing. Had I not had her on the show I would have missed out on two fun conversations and you would have missed out on some very valuable lessons. Yes, two… for the first time in nearly 5 years of doing this show… I simply didn’t follow my checks and balances and forgot to hit record. And I only realized after we wrapped up the show and I went to stop recording! Lisa is fast, she has a great can-do attitude and will not give in, even when it gets tough as shown when she went through her public sanction. There’s some good lessons in this one for sure. Enjoy. In the first half-hour of podcast (0:00 - 28:00), Mark and Lisa explore the following stories: Justin Trudeau’s town hall tour of Canada, which started in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia last week; and specifically what Trudeau’s style of public conversation, empathy, and crowd-work means for activists, advocates and Trudeau himself (4:00 - 13:20)PEI Premier Wade MacLauchlan’s Cabinet Shuffle, how it’s being interpreted as a signal that MacLauchlan won’t stick to the legislated fixed election date, and what that means for women (13:20 - 26:30)In the latter half hour of the podcast (28:30 - End), Mark sits down with Halifax-Needham MLA Lisa Roberts (NDP) Some of the things they talk about include: Lisa shares her big takeaway from our interview with former PC Environment Minister (and Church Minister) Mark Parent (30:20) Mark learns what superpowers Lisa has discovered she has as an MLA (33:40), and Lisa shares how constituency concerns can better translate into legislation and policy change. Lisa shares how she focuses her efforts in opposition on amplifying the voices of the unheard, using her public platform to shape the public consciousness on issues, and how PTSD legislation is an example of parties working together to do important work.
