Safeguarding Your Business: Prioritising Health and Safety Health and safety in the workplace is often overlooked. Neglecting preventive health measures can be costly. It affects not just our health but also the amount of money businesses lose. Early intervention programmes help a lot. Address injuries, mental health concerns, and lifestyle issues before they get worse. It's crucial to put health first at work. Doing so brings big benefits. James Murray, the founder of Work Healthy Australia in 2000, is a trusted expert in injury prevention and management within Australia's manual handling industries. His impressive academic background, including degrees in Science and Arts from Guelph University, Canada, and a Master's in Chiropractic from Macquarie University, Australia, underscores his credibility. Beyond his professional life, he is actively involved in family life, manages other business ventures, and serves as the President of the Melbourne chapter of the Entrepreneurs Organisation. In this episode you will: Preventive health measures are crucial for reducing workplace injuries and their related costs, urging businesses to adopt proactive health strategies. Workplace injuries can significantly increase costs for businesses through higher insurance premiums and lost productivity. Early intervention can prevent severe health issues and reduce long-term costs by addressing both physical and mental health. Effective health programmes monitor and maintain employee health regularly, similar to routine machinery maintenance for optimal performance. Prioritising mental health in the workplace involves strategies like mental health first aid to address issues before they worsen. Leadership is crucial in creating a workplace culture that values health, implementing programmes, and engaging employees. Innovative health strategies, such as functional fitness and structured rehab pathways, are tailored to meet specific workforce needs. This weeks guest is Taylor Cecil. His passion for holistic training and wellness began in 2007 after he was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, after training heavily for the professional triathlon circuit. Taylor sought out Jan Catron (CHEK Australia) for his rehab, and his mind and body were transformed. Taylor learnt that intensive training must be balanced with restorative practices to rise to one's highest potential. After seeing for himself the power accessible through holistic practices, Taylor was inspired to follow Jan's path and study CHEK. Fast forward 15 years, Taylor has honed his skills as a holistic movement specialist and is now an authority on holistic health and functional training. With world champion clients from Olympians to Ironmen, World Surf Champions to Wakeboarders, Taylor is highly regarded in peak performance training. As a Certified Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS) Trainer, Taylor brings a unique and highly acute level of expertise to his physical assessments. This gives Taylor's clients' training an extra layer of complexity and detail as the system of DNS is woven into his programs and methods as a coach. In addition to his accolades as a physical coach, Taylor is well known for his ability to bring mental clarity, calm and wisdom to his clients. Deeply passionate about the mental-emotional side of coaching, Taylor is often sought out for mental coaching alone. As a keynote speaker for companies like Red Bull , Everyday Massive and the Entrepreneurs Organisation to name a few, he is well positioned to motivate big thinkers and anyone wanting to transform their mindset and lives. During the podcast Taylor shares about his brand new Wellness Sanctuary “Native State” and his entrepreneurial journey to put it all together. We find out what Taylor was like when he was a teenager, which is very different to who he is today. Taylor shares about traveling with Wim Hof on his first Australian visit, and what he's learnt about releasing adrenalin using Wim Hof's breathing techniques. Of course we talk about when he first noticed intuition being real in his life, and what triggered that for him. Taylor explains a concept about the ideal flow state, a scale of how we need to feel on a scale of 0 to 10 for many different activities. We discuss his biggest fear, and how he deals with lifes frustrations. The final question Taylor answers is a doozey. If his microphone was connected to all 8 billion people on the planet, and they were all listening to you right now, and you knew they would not blame, shame, or judge you for anything you said. What would you say to them? Listen in to hear his answer! @taylorcecil @yournativestate www.nativestate.com.au info@dougbeitz.com dougbeitz.com facebook.com/dougbeitz instagram.com/dougbeitz
The six phases of growth are (Greiner): Growth Through Creativity – ends in a Leadership Crisis. Growth Through Direction – ends in an Autonomy Crisis. Growth Through Delegation – ends in a Control Crisis. Growth Through Coordination and Monitoring – ends in a Red-Tape Crisis. Growth Through Collaboration – ends in a crisis of Internal Growth. Growth Through Extra-Organizational Solutions.

On to this week's show! We have something different in that our guest is a successful entrepreneur in the world of Business and not real estate investing, YET. Nick Kindler is the Chapter President of Entrepreneur's Organization, a private membership of seven figure entrepreneurs that Cherry and I also belong too. As a member of the real estate community, I find learning from entrepreneurs just as helpful as learning from real estate investors to broaden my learning. I also see all these memberships and masterminds costing $20,000-30,000 or more, I wanted you my 17 listeners to be aware of other masterminds, membership groups and Entrepreneurs Organization is less than $10,000 per year and I'm a big fan. Who better to talk about Entrepreneurship than our very own Chapter President Nick Kindler who also happens to be my client who's working with team member, Chris “the Captain” Hook to acquire quality investment properties. Nick is here today to share his experience as an EO member, President, his entrepreneurial journey which includes a $4.5M business that went bankrupt but more importantly how he bounced back, the lessons learned so you may avoid the same mistakes. FYI - failing businesses, losing money and letting staff is not a fun experience in my experience. Please take notes. If you would like to learn more about Entrepreneurs Organisation please reach out to Nick on his company website www.kindlerandcompany.com/contact you can hit me up on email on DM or you look up your local chapter at https://hub.eonetwork.org/ I'll be a the open house event on March 9th that Nick mentions so I hope to see you there! Business development is the lifeblood of any organisation. It is in many ways about building connections and capitalising on that as well as finding new ways to expand your product or service offering to existing customers. However, with sales being something many people find challenging or even off-putting what does the gold standard of great BD require? To find out, I am speaking to Victoria Butt, who I met around 2013 in a networking group – the perfect BD environment perhaps. Victoria is the Founder and Executive Search Consultant of Parity Consulting, serial entrepreneur, Founder and Chief Training Officer at Evolve Sales Training, Board Member for Entrepreneurs Organisation Sydney and Angel Investor for BIPOC women. In 2021, BIPOC angels was created, an angel investment fund exclusively working with and supporting females who are Black, Indigenous, People of Colour. A decade ago she founded Parity Consulting, a recruitment organisation specialising in placing diverse and capable talent in Product, Pricing, Digital, Marketing and Data Analytics. Parity was founded to reshape how the industry saw candidates and lift them to be equal to the client. In 2017, she joined Entrepreneurs Organisation in Sydney and lead the first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative the organisation had seen in the APAC region, and now sits on the Sydney Board for member success. In 2020 at the height of COVID-19, Victoria set up Evolve Sales Training, an online sales training platform specifically for Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses. Based on long term sales mentoring, this B2B platform provides processes, accountability and frameworks for busy entrepreneurs and sales professionals to drive sustainable higher revenue. A mother of two young children, wife, blogger, and self-confesses wine snob, Victoria is passionate about anything to do with DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging). Let's discuss the Politics of Business Development. Questions that Victoria canvasses include: As someone in executive search, I imagine business development has been a key part of your career and business life. Give us a snapshot of how you approach BD? Great products and services don't always mean money spinners. My career is in PR and strategic comms and I am always amazed when businesses focus on the shiny stuff like fancy content or social media images on say Instagram and then find that alone won't convert to sales. What is the secret sauce you see missing in many business's sales training practices? More than 40% of actual salespeople say prospecting is the most challenging part of the sales process, followed by closing (36%) and qualifying (22%). How can BD be done organically and authentically – many people who love their business still find “sales” approaches challenging? Is there a tried-and-true way to create a funnel or sales or similar that lands with the right target audience more and converts to sales faster? What role does automatic and tech play in business development and ultimately sales? Can you share an example or two? No, not the hit TV series about a dysfunctional family dynasty with the siblings at war over who succeeds the founding father (who still wants to retain a powerful presence in the company). With virtually every dealership or supplier in the agri-turf sector being a private family business, the challenges associated with deciding who is best equipped to take the business forward in a changing world are very real. I talk to Stephen Shortt, a leading small business strategist about the tensions, the planning, the dynamics, and the personal ambitions that come into to play when deciding on succession issues. Each family set up is different. Sometimes succession is a straightforward matter, at other times when several family members are involved, damaging conflicts can arise that can spread from the boardroom, to dining room and even the bedroom. Speaking from personal experience, Stephen outlines how potentially serious family disagreements, often as a result of dogmatic attitudes, can be diffused to the benefit of all concerned when deciding on succession planning LINKS https://stephenshortt.com (Stephen Shortt website) https://hub.eonetwork.org (Entrepreneurs Organisation)

With a credit card limit of just R50k and no tertiary education, Dillon started Kilowatt AV in June 2007. It was his first serious attempt at entrepreneurship, and although making many mistakes, Dillon has grown Kilowatt to be a significant player in its space with total sales revenue combined at over R270mil for the past five years. He is passionate about personal development, culture, strategy, mindfulness, and hyper-awareness, believing that these traits along with a servant leadership mindset, are essential for the modern day CEO. In 2012, Dillon became a member of the Global Entrepreneurs’ Organization, which now forms the fundamental foundation of his growth and personal development. Most successful of which has been his ability to completely step out of his business operationally and free up time to focus on new business opportunities, adventures, public speaking and mentoring young entrepreneurs. He is married with three daughters and loves adventure. Whether it is motor-racing or mountain biking, anything that gets the adrenaline going. Dillon has competed against a formula one racing legend in a reality TV series, cycled from London to Paris, rafted the mighty Zambezi river, completed a full Ironman triathlon and ran the London marathon, to name a few. He was also the director of the Lee-Cooper Indonesia Clothing Company which contained over one hundred outlets worldwide and manufactures over 500,000 jeans per year! Jody explains what it was like during the Asian Crisis in 1997 when Indonesia currencies depreciated sharply, experiencing drastic slowdowns in economic growth and loss of confidence by foreign investors. The effects of downward pressure on the rupiah by 800% lead to most Indonesian companies becoming insolvent and required restructuring. Between August 1997 and December 1998, rapid job losses saw unemployment rise in Indonesia from 4.3 million to 13.7 million people. Listen to how Jody explains his biggest challenges during this time and that having a peer to peer learning group helped him get past his fear.
