Today's topic is a little controversial and completely practical all in one nice serving. So what makes today's topic practical? We all want our students and clients to finish the digital course that we have painstakingly created, assembled, and sold. We want them to succeed and eventually become a case study for our business in addition to experiencing the change that we promised. In order to do that we have to make sure our course is engaging. We are going to cover three ways to make your course more engaging. This doesn't sound controversial, except it is, as I found out in a live stream training I provided this week. I made the comment that attention spans aren't necessarily shrinking so we do not need to be worried about that when creating our courses. And one listener said that we would need to agree to disagree on that. So down the bunny trail I went into the research and that is where the controversy comes in.We are going to talk about not just 3 ways to improve student engagement, but also how that completion rate might be impacted by attention span, or not.Show Resources: Book a CallJoin the WaitlistCheck out all podcast episodes and full transcriptsFollow me on Facebook and Instagram for daily tips and ideas-----------------Please Note: Dr. Moira was a Certified StoryBrand Guide from May 15, 2022 until July 15, 2024. It is frustrating when you spend hours, weeks, and even months perfecting your course and the messaging only to hear crickets when you put it all out into the world. All too often we create messaging and course content based on a few conversations with our ideal client. We get those first few sales and then everything comes to a grinding halt. There are no more sales or they slow down so far we can't even call it a trickle of sales. It leaves us feeling unsure about the next steps or even if our course idea is still valid. How are we supposed to figure out what to do when we can't get any attention from our posts, webinars, and course content?Today I'm going to share with you 5 reasons that this is happening and they all center around the word purpose. Having been in this exact position in the past and helped other course creators through this phase, I can share with you what makes a difference and it isn't what you expect. In fact, the 4th and 5th reasons are really meta, but I trust that it will be the missing component that brings things together for you and creates a shift in your messaging both in your sales process and in your course itself so that you can bring in happy students who get engaged and stay until the end AND then ask what they can purchase from you next! The 3rd reason that I'm going to share can be tricky to uncover, so at the end of the episode, I'll walk you through the exact steps that I use to simplify the process and get to the root of the reason faster.Show Resources: Book a CallJoin the WaitlistCheck out all podcast episodes and full transcriptsFollow me on Facebook and Instagram for daily tips and ideas-----------------Please Note: Dr. Moira was a Certified StoryBrand Guide from May 15, 2022 until July 15, 2024. It can be time consuming to edit the videos inside our digital courses trying to make them engaging for our students. Videos are an important part of nearly every digital course these days, but that doesn't mean that they have to cost a ton of time or money to create and edit. Thank goodness engaging videos aren't really about our editing skills at all! Today I'm going to share with you 5 tips for editing your video content to be more engaging for your students. These are the same tips that I've been using for over 15 years in my courses and none of them involve video editing techniques. By the end of the episode you'll have 5 new ways to engage your students with your video lessons. After all, video editing really doesn't engage your students, it is the content and presentation that draws them in and keeps them learning, so let's jump into what really matters. And the 4th tip can create a lot of angst for course creators, so at the end of the episode I'll share my favorite ways to make a course more accessible for any type of learner. Welcome to Episode 16! Full show notes can be found here: https://sustainable-ecom.com/ep16 In today's show we discuss the importance of brand story, and to help unpick how important this is, I'm thrilled to be joined by Bethany Westwood, former journalist, Certified Storybrand Guide and newest Member of the Sustainable eCommerce team!  Currently, 70% + of consumers indicate they are seeking to make more sustainable choices, but the reality is that only 30% of people actually put that desire into action. Just because your brand is doing things more sustainably or making more sustainable products, doesn't mean your target customers will actually buy from you!  One thing that all the most successful sustainable brands are doing  to attract customers and enrol them into their mission is developing a really clear and  compelling story, and weaving that into all points of their marketing.  A brilliant system to help you do that is the Strorybrand framework, and so in todays show, we take some time out to explain what that is, and how you can use it to grow your own brand.  To get a copy of our FREE Avatar Worksheet - Click: https://coaching.sustainable-ecom.com/storybrand-avatar-worksheet To register for our upcoming Masterclass for Sustainable Brands - Click: https://coaching.sustainable-ecom.com/sustainable-brand-masterclass

Our youth and young adults have so many more options than we did as kids. We were taught that you go into college or a trade; those were your two choices. Today, kids are creating their own model of what life will look like in adulthood. But to ensure their success, we need to help them develop their voice and agency. They need to know how to speak up and speak out and allow their voices to be heard--literally and figuratively. In the literal sense, podcasting is a great option. And in this episode of our podcast, I'm talking with James Healy, a certified StoryBrand Guide and editor of this podcast. We talk about his experience teaching podcasting to a group of high school students, why audio is so important, how kids' tech skills transferred into podcasting, and the use of the StoryBrand framework. We love that we can give our youth so many opportunities in today's tech savvy world, and that next steps after high school can be so varied now in support of our rainbow of learners.   About James Healy: Many professionals struggle to position themselves as an authority and get their message heard. All too often, great ideas and content never gets created. Insights and wisdom that could impact people and change lives are lost. James Healy specializes in helping these experts connect and engage with their ideal clientele as thought leaders in their field. He's an author, a podcast host and producer, and a book publisher. James is also a Certified StoryBrand Guide and implements the proven StoryBrand framework into powerful authority positioning strategies like brand messaging, book authorship, podcast hosting, and more.   Jump in the Conversation: [1:40] Agency for millennials [3:10] The art of podcasting to empower youth [3:45] How James began in podcasting [6:48] Youth in wilderness - how two worlds collide [10:37] Design thinking as a teacher [11:27] Voice and choice for our youth [13:10] Learning isn't one size fits all [13:54] James's learnings from podcasting [16:27] Tech savvy youth - how their tech skills translated into learning podcasting [17:38] Transferring podcast learning to other formats [21:40] What is StoryBrand framework [27:02] Giving students tools to look at things from a different perspective [27:23] Applying the framework to college essays [29:16] Turbo Time [34:53] What people need to know about student voice [36:46] Passion in podcasting: voice matters [38:26] James's Magic Wand [40:12] Maureen's takeaways   Links & Resources Episode 30: Creating Student-Centered Learning Spaces Episode 64: One Stone High Mountain High Institute Voice-Only Communication Enhances Empathic Accuracy The StoryBrand Framework Barack Obama's and Bruce Springstein's Renegades podcast Scott Simon's Up First podcast TED Radio Hour episode: A Better You Headspace app Matt Cutts: Try Something New for 30 Days Teenwise Seattle podcast Email Maureen Maureen's TEDx: Changing My Mind to Change Our Schools The Education Evolution Facebook: Follow Education Evolution Twitter: Follow Education Evolution LinkedIn: Follow Education Evolution EdActive Collective Maureen's book: Creating Micro-Schools for Colorful Mismatched Kids Micro-school feature on Good Morning America The Micro-School Coalition Facebook: The Micro-School Coalition LEADPrep

Come October, you start seeing them: postcards and fat envelopes from charities reminding you of those less fortunate and the tough times ahead during the upcoming holiday season — the meals they'll do without, the gifts they can't provide their kids, the coats they need to stay warm. You'll see these appeals begin popping up in your inbox, too, especially if you've donated to those organizations in the past. Your social media feeds will probably echo similar requests for aid, particularly during the #GivingTuesday that follows Cyber Monday. Combined with the charitable mindset that the holiday season encourages, these messages find a more receptive audience, which is why year-end fundraising is so important to nonprofits. In this episode, we're talking all about the secret storytelling formula that will win more hearts, minds, and dollars for your organization this year-end. Our expert is Dominique Glanville, a friend of the podcast and a Certified Storybrand Guide. We also brought on Rebecca Gregory Segovia and her decades of expertise serving nonprofit clients to weigh in on how you can apply these principles to your year-end appeals. Have you ever spent hours trying to figure out the technical aspects of your business and wondered if it would be smarter to outsource? That can be a hard line to draw sometimes, so we're going to try to simplify it in this episode.  Today we are joined by tech guru Krista Smith who is sharing 7 tips to help you decide whether you should figure it out on your own or leave it to the pros!  Krista Smith loves helping women over 40 get confident with the tech that will allow their businesses to thrive online. She gets it. She is a part of the generation of women who didn't grow up with a smartphone in their pockets. They didn't have a computer (or possibly even internet) in their homes until their 20's. That means they didn't have their childhoods or teenage years to learn how to adapt to changing technology. Coming from a background in education, she's been teaching tech for over ten years. Between coaching (she's a CTI Trained Co-Active Coach), building websites for her clients, and teaching women how to code, she's learned plenty about helping women launch profitable businesses. Most recently she's become a Certified StoryBrand Guide, helping her clients master their messaging too. Keep in mind while listening that these tips can really be applied to anything that you're thinking about outsourcing!  Get access to all my free downloads and productivity tips HERE I would love to connect on Facebook or Instagram Show notes available at www.andrealiebross.com/podcast25The Get a Grip Masterclass starting September 12th will teach you how to get a clear picture of each and every facet of your business, in just 5 20 minutes increments, so that you'll easily know what needs work or needs to change in order to get to that next level.
