Welcome back to my channel, The Crypto Ponzi Scheme Avenger! I'm Danny de Hek, and my mission here is to expose and shame anyone involved in Ponzi schemes or scams. By raising public awareness, I aim to save mum and dad investors from losing their kids' inheritance to the multilevel marketing bottom feeders of the world.Today's video is a bit different but equally important. We're diving into a critical issue that affects many families: youth behavior problems. In this follow-up video, I have a candid conversation with a retired teacher who shares his invaluable experience, knowledge, and skills in addressing such issues. This discussion was conducted over the telephone and lasted about an hour. For privacy reasons, our guest has chosen to remain anonymous, but he has taught at a school in Auckland, New Zealand, for 25 years.THE INCIDENT: A RECAPIn a previous video, I shared a distressing experience involving a group of youths who have been persistently vandalizing my friend shop. These incidents escalated when I was physically assaulted, resulting in broken glasses. The alarming part is that these perpetrators are only 14 years old, yet they seem to have no fear of consequences, despite being known to law enforcement.A TEACHER'S PERSPECTIVEIn this video, the retired teacher listens to voice recordings of Tane Harimate and his mother after the incident. He offers profound insights and wisdom that can benefit all parents, especially those with children struggling with behavior problems. His experience in dealing with such issues in a school setting provides a unique perspective on the root causes and potential solutions for these troubling behaviors.KEY POINTS OF DISCUSSIONUnderstanding Youth Behavior: The teacher delves into the psychological and social factors that contribute to youth crime and misbehavior. He highlights the importance of addressing these issues early on to prevent future problems.Effective Communication: The importance of open and honest communication between parents and children is emphasized. The teacher shares practical advice on how to foster a healthy dialogue that can lead to positive behavioral changes.Role of Education: The discussion touches on how schools can play a crucial role in shaping the behavior and attitudes of young people. The teacher shares strategies that have proven effective in his 25 years of experience.Legal and Social Accountability: We explore the broader societal and legal implications of youth crime. The teacher discusses the need for a balanced approach that holds young offenders accountable while providing them with opportunities for rehabilitation.WHY THIS MATTERSThis video is not just about a single incident but a call to action for parents, educators, and the community to come together and address the systemic issues contributing to youth crime. By sharing this retired teacher's insights, I hope to provide valuable guidance to those facing similar challenges with their children.JOIN THE DISCUSSIONI invite you all to join this important conversation. Welcome to The Refinery. Today we have James August from Christchurch New Zealand bringing us a message about "The Need for Parents." Exodus 17:8-13 NKJV Victory over the Amalekites 8 Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” 10 So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses' hands became [a]heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. Theres nothing thats too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body! You're important to God, and you're important to us at The Refinery. When it comes to prayer, we believe that God wants to meet your needs and reveal His promises to you. He is credited with laying the foundations of quantum field theory. He was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, a professor of physics at Florida State University and the University of Miami, and a 1933 Nobel Prize in Physics recipient. Dirac made fundamental contributions to the early development of both quantum mechanics and quantum electrodynamics, coining the latter term. Among other discoveries, he formulated the Dirac equation in 1928, which describes the behaviour of fermions and predicted the existence of antimatter, and is considered one of the most important equations in physics, with it being considered by some to be the "real seed of modern physics". He wrote a famous paper in 1931, which further predicted the existence of antimatter. Dirac shared the 1933 Nobel Prize in Physics with Erwin Schrödinger "for the discovery of new productive forms of atomic theory". He also made significant contributions to the reconciliation of general relativity with quantum mechanics. His 1930 monograph, The Principles of Quantum Mechanics, is considered to be one of the most influential texts on quantum mechanics. Dirac's contributions were not only restricted to quantum mechanics. He contributed to the Tube Alloys project, the British programme to research and construct atomic bombs during World War II. Furthermore, Dirac made fundamental contributions to the process of uranium enrichment and the gas centrifuge, and whose work was deemed to be "probably the most important theoretical result in centrifuge technology". He also contributed to cosmology, putting forth his large numbers hypothesis. Dirac is also seen as having anticipated string theory well before its inception, with his work on the Dirac membrane and Dirac–Born–Infeld action, amongst other contributions. Dirac was regarded by his friends and colleagues as unusual in character. In a 1926 letter to Paul Ehrenfest, Albert Einstein wrote of a Dirac paper, "I am toiling over Dirac. This balancing on the dizzying path between genius and madness is awful." In another letter concerning the Compton effect he wrote, "I don't understand the details of Dirac at all." In 1987, Abdus Salam stated that "Dirac was undoubtedly one of the greatest physicists of this or any century . . . No man except Einstein has had such a decisive influence, in so short a time, on the course of physics in this century." Holy Family - Luke 2:22-40 Marian is married to Michael and has three children and three grandchildren. She is a cradle Anglican whose call to ordained ministry, is associated with her study of Paul's letters. Marian was a founding member and coordinator of MOW Brisbane and was very engaged in the struggle to change the Anglican church's attitude towards the ordination of women.  Marian has BA (Psychology) a Dip. Ed (Primary) and a Phd (New Testament). It was when she was a Community Worker in Christchurch New Zealand, that she experienced a growing sense that she was called to respond to the spiritual needs of the community. From that, emerged a vocation to the priesthood. Marian was ordained priest in Brisbane in 1995, in the third group of women to be ordained in this Diocese. She has served in three Parishes – Rosewood, Toowong and Hamilton - and has held many Diocesan and National positions. Having a Phd has meant that she has also been able to pursue her love of teaching and has taught for over 20 years at St Francis Theological College – the Letters of Paul, Anglican Liturgy, Introduction to the New Testament, The Synoptics and the Johannine Literature. Now retired from Parish ministry, Marian continues to serve in her local parish and on the Cathedral chapter. Retirement projects include gardening (fruit and vegetables), sewing, learning Italian and minding the grandchildren.

However, this ignore the fact of the matter that magic is a universal human experience which has existed in a multitude of forms across time and space. "Now, in his groundbreaking book, Ari Freeman presents his argument that magic is still a human universal - we've just forgotten how to talk about it! "Laying out clear and concise arguments, Pragmatic Magical Thinking will enlighten readers to how magic can be a practical approach to achieving real world results, drawing on evidence from science, philosophy, history and anthropology. "For both beginners at magic, and the long practicing witch or wizard, Ari Freeman's book is a breath of fresh air for the world of magical studies, inviting readers to join him in placing magic in it's rightful place as a serious and mainstream subject of conversation and enquiry. "Pragmatic Magical Thinking covers a wide and comprehensive selection of subjects in relation to your magical education. These include, but are not limited to: magic and memory, spirits, belief, magic in everyday life, science and magic, religion and magic, Kabbalist cosmology and morality." Are you interested in rethinking resilience? Summary of the article titled Rethinking resilience: Reflections on the earthquakes in Christchurch, New Zealand, 2010 and 2011 from 2013 by Bronwyn Mary Hayward, published in the Ecology and Society journal. Since we are investigating the future of cities, I thought it would be interesting to see how to rethink resilience after natural disasters. This article presents calls for expanding political imagination about resilience, to include areas of compassion and political resistance. As the most important things, I would like to highlight 3 aspects: Human resilience is best understood as the interrelationships among the individuals and their community, environment, and social institutions and we need to always ask: resilience of what and for whom? Regardless of charges against people not being able to imagine for the long term, they are already exercising their political agency or their ability to imagine and effect desired change in new ways. Human prosperity and flourishing require more than resilience – it requires creative political imagination and agency, the ability to take action to shape our life circumstances. Find the article through this link. Abstract: Resilience has emerged as a policy response in an era of public concern about disasters and risks that include fear of terrorism and environmental or economic catastrophe. Resilience is both a refreshing and a problematic concept. It is refreshing in that it creates new opportunities for interdisciplinary research and vividly reminds us that the material world matters in our social lives, political economy, and urban planning. However, the concept of resilience is also problematic. Widespread, uncritical calls for greater resilience in response to environmental, economic, and social challenges often obscure significant questions of political power. In particular, we may ask, resilience of what, and for whom? My reflection here was written in the context of the ongoing grief, disruption, and community protest in my home city of Christchurch, New Zealand, a city that experienced 59 earthquakes of magnitude 5 or more, and over 3800 aftershocks of magnitude 3 or greater between September 2010 and September 2012. From this perspective, I call for expanding our political imagination about resilience, to include ideas of compassion and political resistance. In my observation, both compassion, expressed as shared vulnerability, and resistance, experienced as community mobilization against perceived injustice, have been vital elements of grassroots community recovery. Pre-Loved Podcast is a weekly vintage fashion interview show, with guests you'll want to go thrifting with! For more Pre-Loved Podcast, subscribe to our Patreon! Today's episode is with Rosie Carroll, founder for Nifty – a consignment clothing store and flea market in Christchurch, New Zealand. Rosie first started Nifty in 2018 when she was looking for a place to sell curated pre-loved clothing. It was a time when fast fashion giants were popping up around the city, and she wanted to sell pre-loved clothing in an effort to combat the fast fashion culture that was gaining popularity around her. The flea market has been hosting second hand clothing sellers and local makers ever since. After four years of running the markets regularly, and bouncing around different venues in the city, she felt it was time to leave her full-time office job to open a brick and mortar space.  Last October she leased a space, convinced the owner of the building to paint it bubblegum pink, and is now proud to call the big pink building a destination for vintage clothing lovers, running a consignment clothing store as well as the flea markets out of the big pink building. And we get to hear the whole story on today's show,  so let's just dive right in! DISCUSSED IN THE EPISODE: [3:20] Growing up in New Zealand, Rosie would get to go to her local op shops to pick out an outfit when she had a mufti day at school. [5:43] How the small business community was impacted, and rebounded, from the Christchurch earthquake. [8:46] Rosie started hosting her own flea markets back in 2018, after identifying a need she could fill in the local community.   [20:48] Tips for sellers who are doing their first market this summer. [23:18] Getting clear about wanting to open her own permanent venue and store. [27:14] The transition into having a full-time permanent store.  [30:03] How to make good decisions on what to consign.  [36:24] Her love of 90s style and vintage Levi's. Victoria Schonwald NZRD lives in Christchurch New Zealand and runs a private practice called The Eat Clinic, with a special interest in eating disorders. When Victoria set-up her private practice in NZ, she realized there was a huge problem. She received countless phone calls from distraught parents not knowing what to do to help their children suffering from eating disorders. They were also struggling to get the help they needed. Victoria discovered some teenagers and people in their early 20s were being sent home from hospital and given end of life funeral plans because the treatment model and system was failing the patient. This prompted Victoria to start a parent support group which enabled a team of feisty parents to help advocate to the Government for more funding and expertise for the treatment for all eating disorders in NZ. Victoria is also working on bridging the gap between private and public health professionals to create better communication and patient focused care - with an individualized and adaptive approach. Beginning in October 2010, Eric Hecker spent a year working at the South Pole's Amundsen Scott Station for the Raytheon Polar Services Company where he performed maintenance on scientific equipment including the massive Ice Cube Neutrino Detector. He learned that Ice Cube did far more than passively record neutrinos passing through the Earth, but acted as a giant transmitter. Its size and power suggested it could be used for Deep Space quantum communications with spacecraft traveling throughout our solar system and beyond. More ominously, its vast transmission power made it also the world's largest Directed Energy Weapon, far eclipsing the infamous HAARP facility in Alaska. Eric described how Ice Cube could be used for weather modification, mind control, and played a role in two Earthquakes that struck Christchurch New Zealand in September 2010 and February 2011. Eric also describes his experiences as a gifted child and brief service with the US Navy that led him to concluding he was part of a secret space program, and that the Raytheon corporation played a key role in his covert service. Since Raytheon was his employer during the year he worked at the South Pole, he suspects his work there was a cover for his continued service in a secret space program operating out of Antarctica, all memories of which have been wiped. Eric described his efforts to recall more of his secret space program service and how it relates to the year he spent working in Antarctica. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/exopolitics/support

Lauren is a vocalist, actress, and performer and has displayed her talent around the globe. Lauren has been passionate about the performing arts since she was a child. Growing up in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, she trained in dance, singing, and drama, and spent her childhood involved in many musicals and productions. She also began writing her own music and playing guitar at 13 years old, finding her vocal strength in soul, blues, jazz, R&B, pop, and musical theatre.Lauren completed her Bachelor of Performing Arts from the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts in Christchurch, in 2012, where she performed in musicals such as The Music Man, Cats, and Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Soon after she gained professional work as Sandy in The Court Theatre's sell out season of Grease, as well as national touring productions with THETA - Theatre in Health Education Trust. Lauren worked exclusively as an ambassador, model, and dancer with the Napier Art Deco Trust, where she became the face of the annual internationally acclaimed Art Deco Weekend. This led to Lauren moving to Melbourne, Australia, where she regularly performed at the infamous Broadway Unplugged sessions, and honed her screen acting skills with Kevin Harrington and Shane Connor at The Actors Coach. Lauren later had the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles, California to train at the Margie Haber Studios in their ISP Screen Acting Intensive, where she worked with leading Hollywood acting professionals in screen acting technique, comedy, and improvisation. Soon after, Lauren was cast in one of the newest and most highly anticipated shows from Royal Caribbean Productions Spectra's Cabaret. She then went on to work with the company as a featured vocalist and vocal captain in original productions of Sequins & Feathers, Live, Love, Legs, The Beautiful Dream, StarWater, and Sonic Odyssey, onboard their vessels. In 2020 Lauren completed a contract with Celebrity Cruises Productions as a specialty vocalist, performing in Les Farfadais's Euphoria, as well as multiple other shows. Onboard she debuted her self-produced headliner show Divas Through The Decades to critical acclaim. Since returning to New Zealand, Lauren has immersed herself back into the entertainment scene, appearing in sold-out nationwide tours of Tina - Simply The Best, and ABBA - The Dancing Queen Show. Lauren has made a name for herself as a well sought-after vocalist and guitarist, performing solo and in bands regularly around the country. In 2021, Lauren collaborated with artist/producer, Wulfie, on his track, Love Won't Run Away, which was released in November. The song signaled her debut as the musical artist LOVETA, with her first EP due to be released in mid-2022.

Upzoned
How Christchurch, New Zealand became a lesson in how NOT to rebuild after a disaster

Upzoned

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 3, 2021 35:06

On February 22, 2011, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck near Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 185 people. Writing in Slate last month, James Dann said that the quake’s impact on the built environment of Christchurch, a city built on drained swampland, was unprecedented. “More than 1,200 buildings inside the central four avenues were destroyed by the quake or by demolition crews in the years after.” He continued: In the suburbs, a process called liquefaction was just as devastating. As the ground shook, water and sand squeezed up through the soil to the surface, leaving the soil to subside into the space the water had vacated. Houses slumped, and roads folded inward like the icing on a failing chocolate cake. In the hardest-hit eastern suburbs, the government eventually bought out and demolished about 6,500 houses, upending countless families. In his article—“The Last City of the 20th Century”—Dann describes not only the catastrophe of the earthquake itself but also the catastrophic missteps of local and national leaders in rebuilding Christchurch. In the months after the earthquake, there was a huge amount of public input—10,000 people with 100,000 ideas, literally—on how the city should move forward. Yet the national government rejected the community-generated, bottom-up proposal; it went instead with a top-down plan (created behind closed doors) called “the Blueprint.” The results will be sadly familiar to North American readers: Expensive and risky megaprojects, restrictive zoning, clustering activities into “precincts” (there’s even a Justice and Emergency Services Precinct), limiting the number of developers who can be involved, a focus less on current residents and more on luring tourists and out-of-town businesses—all couched in familiar buzzwords like “innovation” and “livability.” Dann concludes that the Blueprint plan “fundamentally misunderstood the organic, spontaneous nature of cities. Places evolve because of the people who live and work in them.” Dann’s article and the Christchurch rebuild are the topics of this week’s episode of Upzoned, with host Abby Kinney, an urban planner in Kansas City, and regular co-host Chuck Maroh, the founder and president of Strong Towns. Abby and Chuck talk about how Christchurch has become an object lesson in how not to rebuild after disaster, why great places aren’t manifestations of big projects, and about the Robert Moses theory-of-change that leads to top-down plans like the Blueprint in Christchurch...and to similar plans across North America. Chuck also reflects on meeting people from New Zealand at CNU and other gatherings in the years immediately after the earthquake...and how he watched those New Zealanders grow increasingly frustrated at the government’s handling of the rebuild. Then, in what must be one of the most unusual Downzones ever, Chuck recommends a book by a Harvard scientist about the search for extraterrestrial life. And Abby talks about a book she’s reading with the subtitle “Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties.” We won’t blame you if the Downzone makes you want to go rewatch The X-Files. The truth is out there. This week hell, if it exists and who goes there became an election issue. The show had a hellish start with a technical glitch but we went on with special Uncuckable guest Neil Erikson discussing with the Rational Rise's James Fox Higgins Neil's recent confrontation at a gay church in Melbourne with Tim Wilms attempting to moderate. Coming in after as always is David Hiscox Editor of XYZ. After James and Neil discuss the merits of the church confrontation we stay on the theme of Christianity with Bill Shorten demanding to know if Scott Morrison believes gays go to hell, Shorten also doubted if hell exists which might be better for him as alleged rapists might go to hell. Once James signs off for the night Neil rejoins Tim and David and we discuss the thought police and censorship threats containing in post-Christchurch New Zealand. We express our disgust at drag storytime for kids in Melbourne for IDAHOBIT Day. We comment on Ben Shapiro destroying himself on the BBC, and pro-life victories in the United States with the movie Unplanned changing many minds. We finish with Neil providing a summary of his trial and verdict stemming from charges from his clash with the left outside the Milo Yiannopoulos speaking event in Melbourne in December 2017. Neil will not appeal his 120 hour community corrections order but still maintains the charges stemmed from selective policing. Neil also explains his social media disappearing after his allegations against the Liberal Party.
