"Stone Cold" (1991), directed by Craig R. Baxley and starring Brian Bosworth, was a gritty action film that aimed to showcase Bosworth, a former professional football player, as a potential action star. The film's production involved crafting intense and explosive action sequences, taking advantage of Bosworth's physicality and charisma. The story follows Bosworth's character, Joe Huff, an undercover cop infiltrating a biker gang led by the menacing Chains Cooper, played by Lance Henriksen. The film faced challenges in balancing its action-packed narrative with character development, as Bosworth was relatively new to acting at the time. However, the film sought to capitalize on the rising popularity of action films in the early '90s, and Baxley, known for his work in stunt coordination and action direction, brought his expertise to deliver high-energy and visceral sequences. The film also drew attention for its motorcycle stunts, explosive practical effects, and its attempt to position Bosworth as an action star in the mold of other muscular leading men of the era. Despite mixed critical reception, "Stone Cold" has gained a cult following for its unapologetic embrace of action movie tropes and its commitment to delivering intense, adrenaline-fueled entertainment. The production of "Stone Cold" reflects the aspirations of the early '90s action cinema and the effort to introduce new faces to the genre. Huff is tasked with infiltrating a ruthless biker gang led by the charismatic Chains Cooper. As Huff immerses himself in the dangerous world of the gang, he forms unexpected alliances and confronts the brutal reality of their criminal activities. The film delivers a high-octane blend of action and suspense as Huff battles to bring justice to the streets, facing off against the ferocious biker gang in a series of explosive confrontations. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thevhsstrikesback/support

"I Come in Peace" (also known as "Dark Angel" in some regions), released in 1990 and directed by Craig R. Baxley, is a sci-fi action film starring Dolph Lundgren. The production of the film involved blending elements of science fiction, crime drama, and action genres. Lundgren plays a Houston cop, Jack Caine, who finds himself battling an extraterrestrial drug dealer threatening the city. The film's unique premise of an alien drug dealer using Earth as a market for a lethal substance called "white crystalline," combined with Lundgren's action star appeal, contributed to the film's distinctiveness in the crowded action movie landscape of the early 1990s. The production team faced challenges in bringing the alien antagonist and its high-tech weaponry to life. The special effects and practical effects teams worked to create a visually engaging and convincing representation of the extraterrestrial threat. Additionally, the film's action sequences and stunts, a staple of Lundgren's films, required careful choreography and execution. "I Come in Peace" reflects the era's fascination with combining crime and science fiction genres, resulting in a unique action film that has gained a cult following for its blend of otherworldly elements and action-packed sequences.

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

There was some disagreement in the cave about just how good this one was, but there was NO disagreement about film number two, 1991's Stone Cold, starting the Boz himself, Brian Bosworth. Directed by former stunt coordinator Craig R. Baxley, this one is 100% 80's action at it's cheesiest and most vicious. Dolph disguises a buddy-cop movie as an terminator movie. Inside you'll learn that the most deadliest weapon in space are compact discs and all aliens have male-pattern-baldness. Dark Angel AKA I Come in Peace is absolutely bananas. It's so full of action sequences, explosions, aliens chasing each other, one-liners, and a crazy plot where people's brains are drugs in space. It's riddled with buddy-cop cliches, the new partner that does this by the book, an ex-girlfriend that also works in the same circles, the chief that wants his badge, etc... all while giant alien guys are exploding everything in the city with mega-weapons. It's fantastic. There's only so much early 90's nostalgia that you can cram into a movie and somehow this movie manages to blast through that barrier. It's not just the world's deadliest weapon (the compact disc), it's the music, the obligatory cops-at-a-strip-club-scene, it's the hair, the clothes, the cars, and the one-liners. While some people would have made this a dark and grisly film, Craig R. Baxley makes this an absolute blast and falls into an instant classic for anyone who missed it when it came out. Watch this movie now!

It's Christmas time in Houston, and a particularly evil creature is stirring... one from outer space who wants your brain endorphins!  Fortunately for Houston, they have Jack Caine!  On this episode, Chris Prentice joins me once again to discuss the next film in Dolph Lundgren’s filmography, I Come in Peace, a.k.a. Dark Angel.  In this violent, witty, and original ‘90’s action film, Lundgren plays a maverick Houston detective on the trail of an intergalactic drug dealer.  This was Lundgren’s fifth leading role, as well as his opportunity to showcase not just some of his martial arts skills, but his ability to play what was relatively new territory for him at the time… a regular guy.  Despite its unique premise, killer direction, and fun supporting characters, I Come in Peace did not find its audience until home video.  And almost 30 years later, I Come in Peace is still a blast to come back to.  It’s a reminder of what made ‘90’s action movies so memorable.  What do director Craig R. Baxley, Dolph Lundgren, and Matthias Hues all bring to this film?  What kind of an advantage did casting essentially athletes bring to the film’s stunt work and action sequences?  Why does the evil alien speak only four words (an ironic phrase at that), while the good alien is fluent in English?  Does the film have one too many plot threads, or does it balance them all just right?  And just how badass is Lundgren’s Jack Caine?  Join us as Chris and I answer these and all other burning questions, in addition to establishing our new mantra – What Would Caine Do? Special thanks to Chris Prentice for once again joining me.  Also, special shout out to Fesliyan Studios for the show’s opening music.  Please feel free to rate and review the show on iTunes, Stitcher, or wherever else you subscribe!!!

Does Joe fail miserably at his job like no protagonist has ever failed before?  Is he the worst cop in MILKSHAKE BOOM history?!  Tune in to find out! "We gonna tapdance on your lips."
