David Cobb has written an article for the current (DEC 2024) Compass Check magazine for teens entitled "Practical Tools For Navigating Anxiety." It is not just for teens. Mike Snyder is a crisis communication professional who has worked with mental health care. We speak about three tools that you can use to lessen worry. Books recommended in the podcast: Redefining Anxiety: What It Is, What It Isn't, and How to Get Your Life Back is a concise guide by Dr. John Delony, published in November 2020. Drawing from his personal experiences and over two decades in counseling and research, Dr. Delony addresses common misconceptions about anxiety and offers practical steps for managing it. Rewire Your Anxious Brain: How to Use the Neuroscience of Fear to End Anxiety, Panic, and Worry is a comprehensive guide co-authored by psychologist Catherine M. Pittman, PhD, and Elizabeth M. Karle, MLIS. Published in January 2015, the book delves into the neurological underpinnings of anxiety, focusing on the roles of the amygdala and cortex in the brain. It offers evidence-based strategies to manage and alleviate anxiety by addressing both the primal fear responses and the cognitive aspects of worry
When children hear disrespectful language directed at them, they unconsciously believe they are not worthy of being respected. Plus, they develop a belief that its okay to treat others that way, and to accept mistreatment, which has awful consequences later in life. Often I hear what my patients tell me their parents told them, and that their parents were upset when the patient was simply mirroring back similar language. It's a recipe for disease and dysfunction. Let me help you with this. BTW: I've added a new FREE offer at drskyler.net upon sign up that provides my safety-based protocol called "The 8 Mind-Body Methods to End Anxiety, GI and Autoimmune Conditions."
Often I'll ask patients, "Do you believe you can get better?" This simple question, and subsequent answer, tells me so much about how they perceive their condition. This is more than "positive thinking." Instead, I'm referring to a central core belief about what's possible for them. Without belief, the mind-body connection feeds off the anxiety. So we have to learn how to reframe anxiety and stress so that we can believe healing is possible. In this episode, I explain the term "eustress," which is useful form of stress and how it can increase our belief in healing from GI and autoimmune conditions. BTW: I've added a new FREE offer at drskyler.net upon sign up that provides my safety-based protocol called "The 8 Mind-Body Methods to End Anxiety, GI and Autoimmune Conditions."

My new book, Empower Your Child To Heal: 8 Mind-Body Methods to End Anxiety, GI and Autoimmune Conditions, publishes on October 20, so I'm dedicating my podcast this month to topics pulled from the book. Today, I'll introduce the irony that occurs when a sick child seems to prefer to dwell in their victimhood rather than embrace healing. Unfortunately, while parents provide care and virtually anything they want or need, the sick child may choose to enjoy the privileges that come with their conditions -- which keeps them marinating on what they don't have instead of what's possible with healing. Listen in to learn what you can do about it. Also, I'm giving away a FREE workbook at drskyler.net called "Healing Phases: Moving from Victim to Warrior" which will help you understand where you and your child are at in the healing process.

Today, I'll introduce the "fight" response and how it can disrupt healing process in you and your child. Although a defense mechanism, if chronically triggered, the fight response can take the fight out of our immune system. Since we are in mental awareness month, I thought about approaching this exact topic here on the channel. Normally I wouldn't approach such high and dense topics since I only feel like I generalize a lot, even if the information comes from literature, articles, reviews, institutions, and international organizations that deal with the issue. We explored what does Mental Health mean for us (as I asked you), some definitions of the most commonly used terms (such as anxiety, gaslighting), some trends in mental health awareness between 1993 and 2023 (30 years), and some applicable methods on how to make our day better if we feel down or in a bad mood. Before I go, here's the most common definition I could find about Mental health, as defined in the field of psychology: "Mental health refers to a person's emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It encompasses how individuals think, feel, and behave, and it influences how they handle stress, relate to others, and make choices." I hope this episodes lives up to the expectations! Thank you all for being understanding and empathic

Connie's motivational quote for today is by — William S. Burroughs, “Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.” YouTube: https://youtu.be/iYKVoB43d-Q Check Out These Highlights: When I read this quote, I felt like it was speaking directly to me. I move fast all the time and forget to slow down enough to hear and feel the answers I am seeking. It has been a lifelong challenge for me to slow down enough to allow me to speed up. At first, this concept seemed counterintuitive for me. As I age this truth of slowing down to speed up is spot on and always allows me to see, hear, or feel what the next correct step is for me, my family, and my business. The reality is that anxiety is everywhere these days, and the toll is high. You can hardly hear the message above the clamor. Yet a simple, scientifically verified meditation practice can literally end the anxiety, and open the floodgates for success. About James G. Meade, Ph.D.: We are going to discuss his new book: End Anxiety. James is the author of more than 30 books and has taught Transcendental Meditation from LA to New York and in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. On the meditation front, Jim's The Answer to Cancer has worldwide word-of-mouth following. On the business front, The Human Resources Software Handbook draws upon his 100 software reviews in SHRM's HR Magazine. He is a popular and entertaining teacher and has a collection of rave reviews at the back of his book, which often concludes, “TM (and Jim) has changed my life.” How to Get in Touch With James G. Today we're delving into the science behind rewiring the brain using cognitive restructuring, We're sharing an excerpt from the audio book "Rewire Your Anxious Brain: How to Use the Neuroscience of Fear to End Anxiety, Panic, and Worry." Thought patterns that are illogical or unhealthy can exacerbate anxiety or stress. Cognitive therapists focus on identifying and changing thoughts that are self-defeating or dysfunctional, particularly thoughts that lead to increased levels of anxiety or depression. This approach is known as cognitive restructuring. By changing your thoughts, you can establish new patterns of responding in the brain that become stable and lasting.
