The 4th of October marks the start of Space Week and the Explorium in Sandyford is hosting a range of special events this week in celebration. And someone who is taking part and is no stranger to space is former astronaut Daniel Tani, who joins Kieran to discuss.
Space Week Ireland is an annual event celebrating Ireland's involvement in space exploration, innovation, and science. Coordinated by MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory, it runs in tandem with World Space Week, which aims to inspire the public, especially young people, to look to the stars and consider the impact of space research on life on Earth. This year, from 4th to 10th October, Space Week Ireland will embrace the global theme of 'Space and Climate', exploring the crucial intersection of space exploration and climate action. A series of events will raise awareness about how space science and technology can play a vital role in combating climate change. A flagship event, which puts this theme into focus, will take place at Explorium in Dublin on Wednesday, 9th October, from 11 am -1 pm, focusing on how space research can inform climate action. The event will feature insights from leading science communicator Dr Niamh Shaw, as well as a talk and Q&A session with former NASA astronaut Steve Swanson. Attendees will also experience Explorium's climate change-themed 'Cool It' interactive exhibition, which showcases innovative solutions to climate issues and demonstrates how lessons from space exploration can be applied here on Earth. The exhibition takes participants on a 40-minute journey that starts with an energy consumption questionnaire and an impactful climate video. Guests will then enter a model world where they face a challenge - a race to 2050 - and score points based on their choices. At the end, scores are uploaded to a spaceship, revealing the changes needed to achieve a more sustainable future. Participants will even learn how their actions can help save trees and mitigate environmental impact. Mark Langtry, Head of Sport and Science at Explorium, will open the event. Mark has studied Theoretical Physics and Climate Science so Space and Climate is very important to him and his work. He says, "I'm thrilled that this year's Space Week is centred on Space and Climate Change. Space exploration can teach us more about other worlds, but also provides a unique view of our own planet, using earth observation satellites to monitor climate change and track its impact. Our new exhibition 'Cool It' explores our changing climate and empowers us to make a positive change through fun interactive games and challenges. We hope during Space Week everyone can come and enjoy the experience." Rob O'Sullivan, National Outreach Coordinator for Space Week Ireland, commented: "In line with the broader World Space Week theme, Space Week Ireland aims to draw connections between space technologies, planetary observation, and environmental sustainability. From satellites monitoring Earth's climate to the innovations pioneered on the International Space Station (ISS), space research offers a unique perspective on how we can tackle the challenges of climate change on a planetary scale." Throughout Space Week Ireland, the team will be joined by former NASA Astronaut Steve Swanson as they embark on a national roadshow, starting at MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory in Cork and making stops in Galway, Offaly, Kildare, and Dublin. These events, including the flagship Dublin event on 9th October, will illustrate how space technologies, such as Earth Observation satellites, help us monitor climate change on a planetary scale. This data is critical for tracking the health of our atmosphere, oceans, and ecosystems, enabling better-informed climate action policies. Beyond this tour, Space Week Ireland will feature a variety of activities across the country, providing opportunities for all ages to engage with space science. Collecting relevant data and implementing it into business strategy is a superpower all companies want and few have mastered. Enter Mr. Omer Har, the Co-founder and CTO of Explorium. Omer and our host, Cory Davis, discuss the importance of data in today's business world with use cases including risk assessment, fraud prevention and lead scoring. As Omer explains, most companies work only with first-party data instead of focusing on data acquisition strategies. Luckily, Explorium is here to help them out."What we're about is giving them automatic access to thousands of different data sources and not only giving them the sources but also the discovery of new data sources and recommending which data will be relevant to their particular problem."

#004 Earlier in 2020 parents around the world were faced with instantly becoming homeschooling parents - without choice - due to the worldwide pandemic. The bigger surprise has been the increasing awareness of how children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews learn and respond in this new environment vs the traditional education system. This wasn't a surprise to Julia Black - The Lights On Mum. She's been at the forefront of the education evolution for years and has been working with parents, grandparents, and other adults to see the light within their children. Her Lights On Framework allows the child to learn and develop in a way that best suits their learning style, rather than forcing the child into a model that's been accepted worldwide and often overlooks much of the creativity of the mind. The framework helps families discover their child's learning mindset and gives their children every chance to express who they were born to be through incredible real world learning possibilities. The learners explore through their passions and tap into the very best leading-edge brain science for maximizing their potential - on every level. What Julia has found is often the children who are labeled as having something wrong with them, being problem children, or having a learning disability, many times it's the learning system the child is being pushed into that is the issue. Listen in as we talk about all of this and so much more surrounding this Education Evolution. You can find more about Julia and the Lights On Framework on the Facebook page Julia Black - The Lights On Mum, or at https://explorium.co.uk/education-evolution.Would love to hear from you: what did you like or dislike, what was helpful, what steps you're going to take, and what would you like more of from Untapped Strengths with Angela W. Guest Overview This week's guest Julia Black is at the forefront of innovation in education, designing an educational approach that unleashes the talent, and unlocks the passion and true potential of every child. As the founder and CEO of Explorium, Julia's Lights On methodology is changing the way we think about education.Julia explains that when becoming a mother, the values of her own mother, and her first daughter starting school created an inner conflict that led her to pivot away from film-making to focus on education reform. She discusses how the serendipity of creating a circus as a school fund-raiser opened her eyes to the potential in children, unleashed her boldness to confront the educational status quo, research innovations in education to create a vision to disrupt educational norms. Starting with a creative learning center in a pub, Julia describers why having a clear vision enables her to thrive on risk-taking, ambiguity and trusting that events will fall into place.Julia explains how she partnered with her father to transform her future vision into a social business reality. Julia breaks down the methodology and the impact Lights On is having on children and parents alike. Julia also reflects on why in the time of Covid parents can now witness their children's disconnection from learning its mental health impact and why Light's On provides the path forward for education. Julia also reflects how her fathers adventurous spirit was balanced by her mother's more cautious influence in creating a stable and secure home environment. Julia explains her father's story, being written off as a dyslexic, neurodiverse child to becoming a doctor and being one of the UK's first social entrepreneurs forming the Maria Stopes foundation for female reproductive rights. Julia recounts how her father pushed her to confront fear, live outside her comfort zone, and embrace failure and its enduring value. We also cover her own educational experience, seeking out her purpose in early life. Discovering the power of storytelling to create a social impact during a year in South America, returning to the UK, persisting in pitching ideas to the UK broadcast Channel 4 that led her to become an award-winning documentary filmmaker. In part two we focus on Julia discovering her true purpose in her 40's, her immersion in education reform, creating her Lights On platform, serendipity, and how the pandemic is providing the opportunity to scale the platform globally. I hope you enjoy the vision, vitality and unfolding story of Julia Black.Social Links Explorium Facebook Instagram Links in the Show Marie Stopes Channel4 BAFTA Neurohacking Ministry of SoundDr Tim Black See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Today we spoke to Mark Langtry - former League of Ireland footballer, Science TV presenter, theoretical physicist and Head of Science & Sport of Explorium, Ireland. We learned about how much science can influence our lives and how much fun and joy it can bring to us. Technological advancements in sport were discussed as was who Mark looks to as a role model. Student-athletes can learn from Mark in this episode but it really comes down to the importance of enjoying what you do. Mark tells us how sport can teach us life lessons and opens up on his three main areas of focus in life currently. We finish with asking Mark about his penalty choice in soccer and his all-time 5-a-side. This is a very stimulating episode and one for those fond of cognitive diversity. Instagram Mindset - How To Feel Good On The Gram Let's examine your Instagram mindset real quick. Have you ever looked at someone’s Instagram account before and felt a knot in your stomach for whatever reason? And then you get stuck in your own head thinking, “Am I ever going to get there?” or “What’s the point?” Or maybe you see someone in your own niche that you look at with envy because they’re always launching or coming out with something amazing, and you wish you could do that? Have you ever been there? ‘Cause that is imposter syndrome and when your inner critic comes to play, she’s never nice to you. Today, I want to talk to you about your Instagram mindset and those times when being on Instagram makes you feel less than. I’m going to share seven strategies to help you cope with your Instagram mindset and push through the imposter syndrome because in those moments, we are not our thoughts! And when we really work on our mindset, we are able to achieve so much growth in all aspects of our lives. Mindset work is something that we cover inside my private academy, The Social Method Society because your mind is a powerful tool that’s linked to your success. If you’re interested in learning more about a holistic Instagram marketing strategy, then you need to join. The doors are not always open, but you should jump on the waitlist so you're notified as soon as the doors are open again. Now, let’s jump into seven ways to help you feel good on the Gram! KEY TAKEAWAYS: >> [1:08] Do you experience imposter syndrome? Do any of the examples I mention here relate to you? If you’re nodding along, then girlfriend, we need to silence your inner critic ASAP. >> [2:04] When your inner critic comes to play, she’s never very nice to you. It’s important to know that going through this from time to time is totally normal! The good news is that you do NOT have to stay there. You can move through imposter syndrome with the tips I’m sharing today. >> [2:43] I’m sharing 7 tips to help you move through imposter syndrome to improve your Instagram mindset. These tips are coming from myself, other women in the Mums With Hustle Community and some members who are killing it in the Social Method Society. >> [4:07] The first strategy is a bit of a band-aid solution which is to unfollow people or stop looking at accounts that make you feel less than. I don’t feel like this is the best one, but it should get an honorable mention since many people recommend doing it. >> [5:07] The second strategy is that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, sometimes it’s fake. This analogy is brought to you by Colin Boyd. The deeper meaning behind this quote is powerful. We never actually know how things really are on the inside of that business or in that person’s personal life. >> [7:36] My third tip is going to help you get into your own self-awareness. When you’re self-aware of WHAT and WHY something is triggering you, you’ll be able to shift into a space where you can work through your feelings and make it mean nothing. ASK YOURSELF: What about this account, person, particular caption or photo, etc. is triggering me? How do I think, feel and believe because I’m looking at this account? Is there something specific that I'm I making it mean for me? Do I truly even believe my thoughts right now? Can I find an example that proves this otherwise? >> [9:24] Tip number four is all about disconnecting! Put the phone down and go do something that turns your lights on. This is something that my friend Julia Black spoke about before on the podcast. Her episode was MWH 179 : The Importance of Passion in Unlocking Your Mindset with Julia Black of Explorium. >> [10:03] The fifth strategy is to know that you don’t have to go at it alone in business. Become part of a network where you can go and speak about how you’re feeling. Never underestimate the power of relationships and friendships to help make you feel b...
The Importance of Passion In Unlocking Your Mindset Once you have passion in place in your business then you can go deeper into your mindset and use your time to explore and enjoy the adventure that you’ve began as an entrepreneur. Being successful in business is a process that evolves over time! So if you're keen to ignite your passion by keeping your lights switched on, then today's episode is going to be a game-changer for you! LET'S GET INTO IT Today's guest is Julia Black! Julia is a BAFTA and Grierson nominated documentary maker, social entrepreneur and innovator in education and CEO of Explorium. For the past 10 years she has been learning about how we unleash the human potential and tap into our 'divergent genius'. Initially this was to solve the immediate problem she faced as a parent, which was the glass ceiling on her own two children's education. Through her Creative Learning Centre, she worked closely with schools and realised that no matter what the external environment was like, what really unlocked the brilliance inside people was empowering them to tap into learning from the inside out. After analysing what worked and didn't work for 1000s of children, she created Lights On®, a transformational learning framework that places the ownership of learning firmly in the hands of the 'learner' so they can achieve extraordinary outcomes. THE RECAP During this episode, Julia is going to share why passion is a key factor when it comes to unlocking your mindset, how to figure out what you're passionate about, and various ways to reignite your passion in business! 1. Introducing Julia! Julia is seriously incredible, and I cannot wait for you to see why I invited her onto the podcast! Key Points We Discussed: Who is Julia? What is Julia's biz journey? How did Julia found her biz? 2. Children + Passion We are all born with genius inside us and over time that gets educated out of us. In this section, Julia is sharing what happens when our children's lights go off and how it impacts their learning. Key Points We Discussed: Why is it important to help children identify and develop their passions? How do children become disconnected from their passions? Why are children passive learners? Why is passion so important for children? 3. Finding Your Passion Anyone who is running their own business needs to be passionate about what they are doing - otherwise it is going to feel like a job. But a job you can’t leave at the end of the day! In this section, Julia is sharing the ONE question she asks her clients to help them find and unlock their passion. Key Points We Discussed: Why should you be passionate about what you're doing in business? How can you figure out what you're passionate about? Answer this question: What is it that switches on your lights? Define what having your lights on means to you. Get clear on what things switch your lights on and what really turns them off. Based on this very quick and easy analysis, you can then start to design strategies to make sure that you are in your lights on zone. What if you don't know where your passions lie? Look back to when you were younger. Remember a time in your life when you really felt alive and empowered by what you were doing. 4. Passion + Mindset When you have your passion in place, you can go much, much deeper into your mindset. The core concept of Julia's work is that we all have a switch that gets our lights on. In this section, Julia wants you to think about your brain being wired in a series circuit. Key Points We Discussed: Why does Julia believe passion is a key factor when it comes to unlocking one’s mindset? What is it about passion that is so game-changing in entrepreneurship? What is the importance of getting the parallel circuit in place? How does Julia recommend smashing through your self-limiting belifes to unlock your mindset?

Among the warehouses and office corridors of Kowloon is an out-of-place, bright red enameled entryway to "The Explorium". It sits to the side of the main entrance to The Fung Group, a diversified manufacturer and supply chain company with roots extending 100 years back into Canton, China. Today the companies manufacture, retail and distribute 4.5 billion items annually. Li & Fung Limited is the leading consumer goods design, development, sourcing and logistics company for major retailers and brands around the world. Li & Fung was founded in 1906 in Canton and is headquartered in Hong Kong. "Explorium" is a living innovation laboratory for clients, partners, employees, influencers, retailers, product developers and more. It's called a "playground for the future of retail." If that sounds like fun, it's supposed to. There is something that a great business mind and a child’s mind share: They explore. They experiment. They try. They fail and they try again. That’s the way they learn and grow. What makes Explorium succeed is the ongoing interaction between traditional business and newcomers. Old and new. Insiders and outsiders. Our guest this week is Richard Kelly whose title is "Chief Catalyst" at The Fung Group. His mission is to facilitate innovation by breaking insurmountable problems into bite-size chunks that can be tinkered and developed in collaboration with multiple parties. He's a keen fan of influencers and regularly includes them in Hack-A-Thons and solution sessions. In many ways, he and his colleagues are creating disruption within the business so it's better able to handle the many disruptions outside the business. How do you engage influencers inside your business? What do you learn when you innovate and fail quickly? What are the difficulties in taking a historic brand and re-imagining? Meet Richard Kelly and hear how he's approached these and more issues in today's episode. [caption id="attachment_377" align="aligncenter" width="225"] Meet me at he Explorium![/caption]
