In this episode of the Rocket Chiro Podcast, Jerry answers one of the most common questions in chiropractic business and marketing: "How do I get more new patients?" Instead of offering a simplified "just do this" solution, Jerry takes a realistic look at the challenges chiropractors face and offers a framework for creating a personalized strategy based on your goals, budget, skills, and opportunities. Whether you're just starting out or feeling stuck, this episode will give you clarity, direction, and a plan to move forward. What You'll Learn in This Episode: Why the typical "just do this" advice is usually misleading The connection between chiropractic marketing gurus and the broader "make money online" culture Why there's no one-size-fits-all approach to getting new patients Why it's okay (and normal) to get unbalanced results from your marketing efforts Why everything starts with reaching new people—and how to make sure you're doing it The Three Big Marketing Categories: 1. Online Marketing Websites, SEO, Google Ads, social media, email, and digital content creation 2. Offline Marketing Referrals, local networking, events, community outreach, print, and face-to-face marketing 3. Retention Onboarding, communication, patient experience, and follow-up systems that keep people coming back Foundational Steps to Get Started: Clarify your marketing message: Who are you, and how do you help? Build and maintain a professional website Set up and optimize your Google Business Profile Create and maintain relevant social media accounts Implement a simple, effective plan for gathering reviews and referrals Key Questions to Ask Yourself: What are my current skills? What are my interests? What are my available opportunities? What is my timeline? What is my budget? These questions will help you decide what to focus on next and avoid wasting time and money. Final Takeaways: Just get started, even if it's messy at first Don't take unnecessary financial risks Test and tweak your efforts—marketing is an ongoing process Be willing to change, but also be patient with your strategy Most importantly, be committed to excellence in everything you do Resources Business & marketing training for chiropractors: https://rocketchiro.com/join Free practice assessment: https://rocketchiro.com/chiropractic-practice-assessment Best chiropractic websites: https://rocketchiro.com/best-chiropractic-websites Google Ads Management for Chiropractors: https://rocketchiro.com/google-ads-management-for-chiropractors Chiropractic SEO: https://rocketchiro.com/chiropractic-seo

Remember Why You LeftWrite down or mentally revisit the reasons why you walked away in the first place. If the situation was toxic, stagnant, or unfulfilling, remind yourself that time away hasn't necessarily changed those core issues.2. Romanticizing the Past Is a TrapIt's easy to look back and remember the good times while ignoring the bad. Be real with yourself—was it really as great as your nostalgia is making it seem?3. Create Boundaries & Stick to ThemIf you truly want to move forward, set clear boundaries. This means limiting or cutting off contact, unfollowing them on social media if necessary, and avoiding places or situations that might tempt you.4. Find Closure Within YourselfSometimes, we go back because we feel like we need closure. The reality is, closure isn't always something we get from others—it's something we give ourselves. Accept what happened, make peace with it, and move on.5. Keep Yourself Busy & FocusedWhen you're leveling up, you don't have time to backtrack. Fill your time with things that contribute to your personal growth—whether that's work, hobbies, self-care, or new relationships that actually align with your goals.6. Accountability HelpsTell a trusted friend or someone who truly supports your growth about your decision to move forward. They can help check you if you start slipping.7. Ask Yourself: What's Really Changed? Before even considering going back, ask yourself: What has actually changed? Have they shown consistent, long-term growth? Have you? If the answer is no, then it's just a cycle waiting to repeat itself.8. Trust That Better Is ComingYou don't need to settle for the past when your future holds something greater. Stay patient and open to new opportunities instead of revisiting old, familiar disappointments.

Episode 140: Leadership, Self Energy, & the Internal Family Systems Model with Rachel Bentley As therapists, business owners, and leaders, we often feel pressure to have all the answers. But what if the most impactful leadership doesn't come from perfection—but from embracing our humanity and ongoing growth? That's exactly what I explored in my conversation with Rachel Bentley on The Innovative Therapist Podcast (Episode 140). Rachel is an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 2 trained therapist, group practice owner, and business consultant. She leads a 40-clinician practice with locations in Michigan and helps therapists navigate leadership, self-energy, and sustainable business growth. In this episode, we dive into: How Internal Family Systems (IFS) can transform therapist leadership The role of self-energy in decision-making and leadership Overcoming imposter syndrome & self-doubt Why creativity and the Zone of Genius matter for therapists How to build a leadership team without burning out The Power of IFS in Therapist Leadership Rachel shared how IFS has revolutionized her leadership as a group practice owner. Instead of leading from a place of control or fear, she now understands how her internal parts—the ones managing decision-making, leadership stress, and self-doubt—can work together. Why Self-Energy is the Key to Effective Leadership IFS isn't just a clinical tool—it's a leadership framework. Rachel discussed how recognizing and working with her own parts has helped her: ✅ Lead with more confidence and clarity ✅ Trust her intuition in making business decisions ✅ Navigate the challenges of growing a large team ✅ Avoid burnout by recognizing protective parts before they take over Many therapists struggle with imposter syndrome, especially when running a business. Rachel's insights show that leading with self-energy—rather than fear-based parts—creates a more sustainable and authentic business. Creativity & the Zone of Genius for Therapists One of the most exciting parts of our conversation was Rachel's journey with creativity. Like many therapists, she didn't initially consider herself creative. However, she's discovered that creativity isn't just about art or music—it's about problem-solving, visioning, and innovation. What is the Zone of Genius? The Zone of Genius is the space where your natural talents and passions intersect. It's where work feels energizing instead of draining. Rachel and I explored how therapists can identify their Zone of Genius and lean into work that truly excites them. Ask Yourself: What part of your work lights you up the most? Where do you feel the most “flow” and self-energy? Creating Spaces Where We Don't Have to Prove Ourselves Therapists often feel pressure to appear “perfect”—as if we should always have it all together. But true leadership comes from embracing vulnerability and authenticity. Rachel and I discussed the importance of creating spaces where therapists can show up without unrealistic expectations. Whether it's within group practices, consulting, or therapist communities, we need places where: ✔️ We can ask questions without judgment ✔️ We don't have to prove our worth ✔️ We can be real about struggles and challenges Thinking About Starting a Group Practice? Read This First. A key topic we covered was how therapists can decide whether group practice ownership is right for them. Rachel often works with therapists navigating the solo-to-group transition, helping them consider: ❓ What is your why for starting a group practice? (Curiosity vs. Judgmental Why) ❓ Are you comfortable with leadership & delegation? ❓ Do you understand the realities of scaling a business? ❓ Are you willing to work through your own parts and fears? Join the Conversation & Build a Meaningful Practice This episode is packed with insights for therapists looking to lead with self-energy,

The Lord gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, “Go down to the potter's shop, and I will speak to you there.” So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel. But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over. Then the Lord gave me this message: “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand.” Jeremiah 18:1-6 NLT 1. Jeremiah saw the potter Remember, I pray, that You have made me like clay. Job 10:9 NKJV In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 NLT In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. John 1:1-2 NLT 2. Jeremiah saw the wheel And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 NLT 3. Jeremiah saw the clay Sin is simply when we resist God's Will. In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets—some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage. Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing. 2 Timothy 2:20-21 MSG LIFE WILL NEVER MAKE SENSE UNLESS YOU LIVE A LIFE BIGGER THAN YOURSELF For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. 5:8-10 NIV 1. ASK YOURSELF “What should I STOP doing” Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them… Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise… Ephesians 5:11;15 NIV Behind your darkness is God's purpose for your life. Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 NLT Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don't get sidetracked; your feet from following evil. Proverbs 4:25-27 NLT 2. ASK YOURSELF “What should I START doing” Making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. Ephesians 5:16-17 NIV Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. James 4:17 NLT “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” Matthew 6:34 MSG 3. ASK YOURSELF “What AM I WAITING FOR” I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2 NLT People that procrastinate talk about a life of purpose. People who take initiative live a life of purpose. Why do you Matter? 1. You Matter to our Church God is looking for passionate disciples. I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the lord.” Psalms 122:1 NLT But the time is coming—indeed it's here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. John 4:23 NLT God is looking for compassionate disciples. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved.” But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” Romans 10:13-15 NLT 2. You Matter to our Community Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16 NLT Well our Church must become larger and smaller at the same time Small groups create 3 things we all need A place to Connect A place to Protect A place to Grow 3. You Matter to God There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other; But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it… 1 Corinthians 12:4-7;18 When you live beyond yourself the meaning of life comes into focus and life has purpose! But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God. Acts 20:24 NLT

Ask Yourself: What are the expectations you will have of your body when you eat healthy and lose weight? What will you demand from your body in return for the effort you put in? To change your results with your body, you will need to change your relationship with your body. It's a non-negotiable first step. Many of us start with an expectant and transactional relationship to our body, where we believed we're “owed the changes we want” from it. This mindset will only lead to discouragement and frustration. It will compel you to quit even if you're making progress towards your goals. Instead, you want to transition from expectation to a relationship where you meet your body's needs. Contractor Success Map with Randal DeHart | Contractor Bookkeeping And Accounting Services

This Podcast Is Episode Number 491, And It's About What Sets Your Construction Company Apart Let me start by saying it's good if you have competition. Indeed, competition pushes you to be innovative. It also means there's an established community for your services. If no one else is offering the service, there's a chance there's no market for it.   But, have you always wondered how a small construction company like yours could stand out from the crowd and its competitors? Awareness of what others in your industry have developed and provided leads to a newfound motivation and belief in making an impactful difference, whether within your company or your community.     The key to benefitting from the competition is knowing how to take on competitors. You measure your share in the particular segment you operate in and obsess about your immediate competition, just as contractors who did not market effectively did years ago.   But first, you need to step back and ask yourself these three key questions and make sure you answer them in a way that will define and liberate your construction company at the same time. Ask Yourself: What am I offering? New construction, remodeling, or service and repair? Who is my competition? DIY, other contractors, money homeowners for a construction project? What is my fundamental competency - Residential, Commercial, or both? Challenging yourself is the key to answering these questions. Write your answers on paper or computer, sleep on them and then revisit them again and again until you get to the truth. Define The Type Of Contracting You Offer And Who Is Your Competition Be that homeowner doing a weekend project, Handyman Contractors, Remodel Contractors, Trade Contractors, and other contractors and House Builders. It may not be the same form, structure, and category that you operate. For example, Home Depot does not see itself competing in the building supply business but for a share of the home and commercial remodel and repair market. This approach and behavior across the organization, too, saw themselves as fighting for a share of the building supply market. Getting The Leads And Doing The Work Is Only Part Of The Answer Not answering them and acting on the knowledge is one reason many construction companies shrivel and die. They focus on the wrong areas to innovate or improve. They focus on the wrong enemy and threat. As a result, they miss what they could be doing to succeed and prosper over time. Here are three ways your small construction company can establish itself from competitors and stand out from the crowd: 1. Concentrate, then generate. What separates wealthy contractors from poor contractors? They concentrate then generate. Returning to the critical questions at the start, successful contractors know what type of contracting they are good at. SWOT Analysis is one tool used in strategic planning for construction companies to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in determining the particular target market. Concentrate Strengths - are projects that your construction company does exceptionally well and earns a higher than average gross margin that gives you an advantage over other contractors. What are they, and how can your construction contracting company expand on them? Weaknesses - are projects your construction company does poorly at and breaks even or loses money. What are they, and how can your construction contracting company turn them into strengths? Opportunities - are projects and markets not currently being served where your construction company can enter and turn them into strengths. Have you considered tapping into the "work-from-home" market during this time? Or commercial establishments looking to remodel to implement a better floor plan? Threats - are elements outside your construction company that could cause trouble for you or your construction projects. What are they, and how can your construction contracting company turn them into opportunities? A SWOT analysis will help you identify each of these characteristics for your business to understand better what you're doing well, what you could improve, and which external factors could affect your business. Generate Marketing is a science, not an art. Now that you've analyzed your SWOT, you laid the foundation by having a vision for what your Construction Company will be when you finish building it, you know who you are, and you know who your prime client is. You can quickly generate more leads than you can handle. 2. Give the client what they want and deliver an excellent service. There's room enough in most industries for competition. While it's a good idea to know who you're against, your clients are your priority. Focus your efforts on providing goods and services meaningful to them, addressing their pain points, and improving their lives. Market yourself to make those aspects clear. Show them why you're the ideal company to hire for their project.   Large businesses have weaknesses. The bigger they are, the less personalized and responsive their service is. They market themselves to a broader audience and have to bring in more clients to cover their costs because their overhead is higher.  In this respect, your size is an advantage. Fewer customers mean more personal service. That opportunity for relationship building will entice customers looking for extra attention.   Examine what people love about your competitors but also what frustrates them. Build your construction business to address those gaps. If you find that something isn't working with your customers early on, don't be afraid to shift. Be innovative in responding to market changes and client demands. You'll have an easier time making that change early than once you're more fully established.  3. Put together a stellar team. It is one thing to be a carpenter, plumber, electrician, framer, drywaller, painter, or any other master crafts person and quite another thing to own a construction company that performs those things while managing a business. Many small contractors have friends in the same trade and work well. Remember that being on your own is okay because employees are not required to succeed in this industry. You could also work well with a group of Trade Contractors and complete the work seamlessly as a team effort. On the other hand, you could be a one-person remodeler who may have unknowingly built a team by working with highly-skilled professionals. For instance, the person who did your company logo or the banker who helped you set up a business bank account—outsourcing a specialist to help you with the things you are not an expert on - like a Website/Social Media Manager to take care of your online presence does wonder for your Marketing without needing to hire in-house staff and do their payroll. Of course, a financial advisor or a construction accountant who has been where you want to go and can guide you will benefit your construction business. Optimize your time and skills by doing what you love and do best, and outsource the rest to operate better and grow your construction company. Final thoughts We are big fans of optimizing instead of maximizing. We've developed strategies that take the least amount of effort in the least amount of time possible. What do you feed into the abyssNess of his – story? My personal story has many chapters that include highs and lows, as well as close calls and some very amazing moments too. I have been blessed and fortunate to tell my story for a living – but sometimes that has required that I relive some emotional moments. These moments have served the purpose of helping me in connecting with others currently going through a similar (present) moment or tough time. So, I will share the pieces that offer food for thought in tangible life lessons that offer value to those paying with attention. It was my father who told me and taught me to be bigger than my story and its challenging chapters. He would know – as a child he was left to battle Polio without the support and assurance of his own father who was left to battle tuberculosis – TB – after returning from World War II. So essentially, he shared in the footsteps of health-related struggles like his father… my grandfather. But it was his personal fortitude that determined that polio would not render him crippled – crippled physically nor emotionally.  So, he forged on at an early age to craft his own steps and his own perception of himself despite doctor, family, and the opinion of friends who all doubted his fate. But now, here he is telling his own amazing story of loving his wife of 51 years and raising three sons as he helps to guide his six grandchildren who too can follow in his footsteps until they're able to create and craft their own.Ask Yourself:What is one example that your parents set for you? What is something you have accomplished it makes you proud? What were your legacy be? Well - let's hold the (t) - you can do it!I feel that many of us have learned can't from someone who couldn't bear to watch us fail or fall short. So, we were conditioned to say can't more often than not. I can't - you can't – we can't... sound familiar? Well, there is some small group out there that is busy working on removing the (t) in can(t).Are you one of them…?I see the ( T ) representing time… The time needed to develop a can't into a can! After my senior year in high school, I quit playing volleyball. It was a shock to many of my coaches, teammates, and parents. Mostly because I was destined to play in college, somewhere. There was pressure coming from all directions to be successful at the next level. It wasn't a matter of if I was going to play in college, it was where. Looking back, I can see how clearly one thing was controlling me (and how it controls many of the athletes I work with today!)What is it? Fear of success. You'd be surprised how many female athletes are held back by the fear of their own success. Personally, I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to live up to the expectation that others had of me in their minds. And it wasn't until I embraced and moved past this fear that I was able to finish out my career as a successful (and happy!) collegiate volleyball player. In this episode, I dive into what this fear is, how to spot it, and mindset shifts to help athletes move through it. What is Fear of Success?First, we need to examine what “success” is in the eyes of many female athletes. Success could mean:-   Being good (and maybe better than teammates/opponents)-   Getting recognition-   Achieving new levels or playing on higher teams-   Being a bigger contributor on the team (scoring the most points, making the plays, etc)These all sound like good things, right? They are, but in many female athlete's minds, these successes can also mean...-   Being expected to live up to a new standard, and fear of failure if the expectation is not met-   Jealousy from teammates-   More work-   More pressure to performIt can feel overwhelming and cause athletes to shut down before they even start, stopping them in their tracks and preventing them from reaching potential. What Does Fear of Success Look Like? For many athletes that struggle with fear of success, it can look like:- Hesitating:- Not giving their all- Quitting/Losing Motivation- Procrastination/Avoidance of TrainingStrategies to Overcome Fear of Success:Much of overcoming this fear includes shifting athlete's mindsets and creating new thoughts and stories around their success. Here are three ways:1. Realize that more damage is done by avoiding success2. Understand that being great doesn't mean being perfect3. Ask Yourself: What story do you want to write? There you have it. The fear of success is very real for many female athletes. It's one I've battled as an athlete and still struggle with from time to time as a business owner and entrepreneur. **********Helpful Links:Visit our podcast website for more on this episodeDownload the free resources we've created for youJoin us inside our FREE Facebook Group - The Elite Competitor Society - for weekly Q&A, periodic trainings and challenges, and the support of an amazing community of moms, coaches, and the men who partner with us!The BEST way to help us spread the word and get this information into the hands of millions of parents, coaches, and female athletes is by leaving a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. “Being lonely is not nearly as taxing as welcoming BAD company.” - Johnnie Williams IIIAre you in love right now?No is the wrong answer, because you are or should be in love with yourself. This episode explores why parents put their children first, where soldiers put the country first, and married couples put their spouses first. The question is posed as to whether this philosophy of loving others first pays off or creates unnecessary expectations on those we claim to love. Maybe by putting others first and loving others first -is like us working from the outside of self back inward. Too many of us entertain the wrong company for moving forward and self-improving in this life. It is suggested that we stop avoiding the reasons why we don't like being alone and begin to challenge these thoughts and feelings so we might hold spaced and hold out for the ideal people that should occupy time and emotion in our lives.Ask Yourself:What are some things you think about when you are by yourself? What bothers you most about spending time alone? What have you learned about entertaining bad company? “When I worked at being average, I was (unfortunately) very successful at it. Now, I am working on greatness and will see what happens.” - Johnnie Williams IIIYou are not defined by a race, gender, culture, nor your community; only by you, unless others are granted the authority to do so. Defining yourself is the master key to this life, because the truth is - there aren't many pursuits as worthwhile. Unfortunately, we don't start out as a master (key). We must undergo a process that aligns with our own unique purpose,be cautious not to get caught up in comparison to others. I consider this to be our die cutting stage of life. “You should only live life looking forward… Because, looking back at yesterday while experiencing today is backwards living.” - Johnnie Williams IIIIt sounds obvious – so why am I saying or suggesting to live while living? Are you living fully? Are you existing barely? Are you truly alive? Are you holding your breath? Are you in a state of fear? Are you surviving till the weekend? We need to take our minds out of reverse and drive forward…beyond the speed bumps and fender benders of our past. This is why the clock ticks forward… It's suggesting the most logical direction and clear suggestion for us to follow. So, keep going and keep growing. This episode's theme is a reminder that we have all come from nowhere and now find ourselves now here so we should live fully before returning back to nowhere from which we have come. Just think of how unnatural it is for us to live out our today's crippled by the experiences of yesterday. It's like drinking yesterday's coffee, or a flat soda. Somethings are just better experienced fresh – just like today! However, there is science that supports why we struggle with this:95% of our day is managed by our subconscious mind and just 5% is spent conscious and creatively aware. Our minds our often fully programmed by the age of 7, which is why it's been mentioned…“Give us your nations children till the age of seven and we will shape your entire society.” Now think:Seven days of creationSeven chakrasSeven hermetic principlesThis is a number representing completion. Therefore, there are seven action items I'd like to suggest you complete each day until it becomes habit (subconscious).1 - start the day with 7 deep breaths2 - while bathing or showering consider 7 things you're grateful for3 - drink 7 cups of pure water4 - hug at least one person for 7 seconds5 - take a walk (move around for more than 7 minutes)6 - call or message a loved one who brings you joy7 - end the day with 7 deep breaths (release it and prepare to welcome new today)ASK YOURSELF:What have you been through that hijacks your attention? What reminder can you create to remain focused on the present day and moment? This Podcast Is Episode Number 447, And It's About Why Getting The Leads And Doing The Work Are Still Not Good Enough There was a time when a contractor put a simple ad in the paper or a line listing in the Yellow Pages, and they would have more leads than they could handle. It was the only way to go, and the contractors who insist on that and "Word of Mouth" do not survive.   Could those contractors have avoided failure?   I believe they could have. This article explores the top reasons construction businesses fail and the three key questions that every contractor like you needs to ask to prevent failure. It would be best to answer these questions to provide a clear path to your continued and future growth and success.    Contractors who did not move from simple ads that had always worked, and evolved a Marketing Plan made the same mistake other failed companies and brands made. They were unable to Innovate, Reinvent, and Evolve by having a deep understanding of what business they were in, who and what they were competing with, and by challenging themselves to understand their actual expertise.   It's important to plan to give your construction business the best chances for success. Planning means anticipating challenges and developing ways to successfully address them, so they don't upend your construction company.  Here are the top reasons why your construction company could still fail: Lack of market demand  You need to have a market to make money. That means there needs to be enough people who need your service and are willing to pay money to hire you. Without that, you won't be able to cover your costs or earn enough to survive. Before you spend your time, money, and energy starting a business, make sure there's a need for it.  Some ways you can identify needs: Look for competition. If no one else is offering the service, there's a chance there's no market for it. That might not initially stop you from moving forward, but if no one already offers your product or service—or anything close to it—you'll have to do more to prove there's a market. Conduct market research. Studies and interviews help determine whether people in your target market agree with you that there is a need for your offering and that they would pay for it.  Lack of expertise Contractors like you might be tempted to partner with or hire their friends or family—people they genuinely like and would work well with. That doesn't always translate to success, however. For your business to be successful, you need specific expertise, and you need people whose skills complement yours.  You also need people who are willing to discuss your decisions with you and make sure there's a business case to be made for each decision you make. Someone with a differing perspective provides a vital way to double-check whether your choices are best in the long-term for your business or whether other options are available.  Ensure you hire people with balanced competencies. If your roofing business involves installing solar panels, you might need a technical expert to ensure the technology runs smoothly. You'll likely also need a financial expert to help you with bookkeeping and possibly a manager to oversee employees. It's OK to hire people you like, but make sure your team also has the skills to attend your business successfully.  Lack of finances You need money to produce your services and ensure all employees are paid. It's not enough to know how much money you need month-to-month; you need to forecast your development cycle, how inventory moves through your supply chain and variations in seasonal income.  If your construction business doesn't earn as much in the first few months as you predicted, you'll need to bring in more money quickly to save your business.  Ask Yourself: What are you offering? New construction, remodeling, or service and repair? Who is your competition? DIY, other contractors, money homeowners for a construction project? What is your real competency? Residential, Commercial, or both? The Truth Is Four Levels Deep! Challenging yourself is the key to answering these questions. Write your answers on paper or computer, sleep on them and then revisit them again and again until you get to the truth. Getting The Leads And Doing The Work Is Only Part Of The Answer Not answering them and acting on the knowledge is one reason why so many construction companies shrivel and die. They focus on the wrong areas to innovate or improve. They focus on the wrong enemy and threat. As a result, they miss what they could be doing to succeed and prosper over time. Define The Type Of Contracting You Offer And Who Is Your Competition It may not be the same form, structure, and category that you operate. For example, Home Depot does not see itself competing in the building supply business but for a share of the home and commercial remodel and repair market. Be that homeowner doing a weekend project, Handyman Contractors, Remodel Contractor, Trade Contractor, and other contractors and House Builders. This approach and behavior across the organization, too, saw themselves as fighting for a share of the building supply market. Final thoughts It is straightforward to get caught up in the short term and what you have today. You measure your share in the particular segment you operate in and obsess about your immediate competition just as contractors who did not market effectively did years ago. But you need to step back and ask yourself the three key questions and make sure you answer them in a way that will define and liberate your construction company at the same time. Also, keep in mind that you can significantly improve your odds of success by planning, being strategic with who you hire, ensuring there's a market for your offerings, and considering alternative funding sources.  P.S. Episode 327 Another week of Throwback Thursday! Let's take a look back on Episode #52 and ask yourself these questions: Where are you on your journey in your business? Are those “perfect strategies” that have worked so amazingly well for others working for you? In this episode, Emily shares how to take those “perfect” strategies and make them perfect for YOU. We all know there is no shortage of amazing strategies out there for you to grow your business, but the reason why something that has worked for someone else may not work for you is that it isn't in alignment with you, or may not “feel” right. Strategies and tactics are the maps. Dialing into your “inner compass” (your intuition and inner knowing) is your superpower and will get you further faster, with better results. Without a compass, you don't know where to go. That is what you want to tap into, so your inner compass can serve as your guide. We're sharing the 3 Key Points of this episode: Why following what others do, and what is working for them, isn't always your best option. How dialing into your inner compass is key We are the co-creators of our lives; do what feels right for YOU   Highlights you wouldn't want to miss: Listen to the signs your body gives you, for instance: if your body tightens or feels “off”, those are signs that you aren't in alignment. If you are looking for permission to drop all of the stuff you're taking on and do it the way YOU want to do it here it is! There are NO RULES. There is no one size fits all. ASK YOURSELF – What would make it work for me? How can I feel good doing it? Look at the strategies you're learning about or implementing and see what components are feeling heavy or need a shakeup. Then you can add your own flavor to it. When fear does come up, remember there is a fine line between being nervous about something and fear pulling you back. Shareable Quotes: “Do what feels right TO YOU what feels light, easy and fun!” – Emily Aarons “Give yourself permission to not play by the rules. There is no right or wrong way, only YOUR way.” – Emily Aarons “Your inner compass will take you further faster with better results” – Emily Aaron   Thanks for listening! The Think About It…podcast

"We all make mistakes; I'd just make sure they're new ones." Johnnie Williams IIIWhen you become consciously aware of how unaware YOU have been, you will recognize that many mistakes that are repeated are rooted in subconscious habits... And, (5) common mistakes we often make:1) Speaking without thinking2) Repeating negative self-affirmations3) Saying yes when we need to say "NO"4) Spending money that we don't have yet or anymore5) Failing to value the most invaluable people in our livesWe can (actually) fail forward when we learn from our mistakes and then fail to repeat them over and over again. So remember that, "None of us can outrun our past mistakes, nor catch our future of possibilities; so pace yourself with the flow of this TODAY." - JW Time is a man-made concept that I see as one of our most creative - creations. And, it is my greatest resource, and this weeks word to focus upon. Stop wasting it, so you can get paid for it; because none of us can pause it. When we watch our ACTIONS and manage our reACTIONS, we stand to benefit from (potential) monetary transACTIONS.Ask Yourself:- What is your most recent mistake that had consequences?- How will you handle the situation the next time around?- Who can you save from making it?One of the best ways that I have found for passing along the wisdom gained from my many mistakes is to offer engaging lectures that inform others and publish books that get the tribe in the habit of thinking. Doing more of what works and less of what doesn't sounds like an easy concept, right? But how do you know what's working and what isn't? In this episode, I'm exploring a few of the hats I wear and break down the three big questions: What's working? What's not working? What can I do more of?   Questions to Ask Yourself What's working? What's not working? What can you do more of?   The Hats You Wear and Figuring Out What Works Every single person has multiple roles they engage in every day. Partner, parent, child, sibling, employee, entrepreneur, volunteer… you get the idea. But what happens when you actually take the time to look at how these roles are serving you? And, more importantly maybe, how you're serving them? By breaking down three questions in the narrative of all the different hats you wear, for me specifically in this episode, as a wife, as a parent, and as a coach, I can reevaluate how I best show up in these roles. Identifying what's not working really does allow you to figure out what is working and how you can use the momentum from that to create space to do more of that.   What Happens When You Open Up to Others Opening up to the other people who experience you in these roles helps with communication barriers, as well. By knowing more about yourself and what doesn't work for you, you can openly talk about that, apologize if necessary, and come to mutual decisions about how to move forward. Finally, knowing your ultimate goal helps this whole process. If you know where you want to end up, you can curate your approach to make it work even better. Doing more of what works will absolutely help you reach those long-term goals quicker. Do you know your long-term goals? What roles do you need to examine to get you closer to meeting them? Let me know what you're exploring first in the comments on the episode page.   In This Episode  Do more of what works and less of what doesn't [1:00] How to look through your hats and choose which work the best [3:30] What happens when you open up about what's not working [14:00] How doing more of what works helps you connect with your community [20:00] Why you should explore your ultimate goals [23:15]   Quotes “I think that connection is really the key. As I'm talking through this all in this episode, this theme of connection has definitely allowed me to calm myself a little bit. I feel a lot less stressed even working through this podcast with you all from the very beginning. A lot is based on the very idea that I can connect. I can connect with those that I love and it's really fun to do that. I had the opportunity on this episode to do that.” [20:45] “Doing more of something I think is giving others permission to explore in depths of what they need right now. When I'm describing what I need, what can I do more or less of, it's giving permission to be able to do more of what's working for them, less of what's not, and helping them uncover what that is.” [26:39] “How can we conserve energy? By saying ‘yes' to the things that are working and ‘no' to the things that are not working.” [27:53]   Resources Mentioned Join the G.O.A.L.S. Ask YOURSELF -- What can I change to serve myself WELL?  Growth is intimidating. It's intimidating at the start, and all throughout the process! But don't let it stop you from chasing the dream. Those big companies with the big following on social media all started SOMEWHERE. You will never get THERE, if you don't start RIGHT HERE. Let's just put one foot in front of the other, and the road will keep appearing. You DON'T need to see the whole street before you take that first step.  There's a sense of needing to be “enough” to get started, but it's NOT TRUE. It's so important to challenge yourself, allow growth, invite a team member, and WORK TOWARDS YOUR GOAL! Nobody is doing it on their own, and nobody knows exactly what they're doing either!  Find your WHY. Find your why, and don't stray from it! There can be so many easier + faster ways to produce the product you're after, but is that REALLY what you're wanting? Sometimes, putting in the extra effort to spend a little more time, a little more focus, and maybe a little more money can be WORTH it to stick to your WHY and accomplish your DREAM.

Thank you Newsstand Studio at 1 Rockefeller Plaza for providing a place for me to record this episode for y'all! No more Brooklyn closet recording!!!   You may have heard on Instagram that The Refined Collective reached 1 million downloads! This is a huge milestone and I want to CELEBRATE that with you! We have over 150 episodes from the last 3.5 years and I spent some time digging through the archives to find the most downloaded episodes ever to share with you over the next 10 weeks. If you're new to TRC, buckle up, because we have some incredible content coming your way. And if you've been here a while, hold tight, because a good refresh on this stuff never hurt! Also, while we're going through the archives, I'm going to spend some time dreaming up what's next for TRC! (And truthfully, I need a break from interviews for a bit!) But I didn't want to leave you hanging while I took a little break! So get excited, + welcome to TRC REMIX!   Are you ready to revisit (or visit for the first time) the most downloaded episode on TRC history? This is Part 1 of a conversation I had been avoiding having with you guys in a solo show because I was afraid of getting it wrong or someone taking a sound bite out of context. This is a nuanced conversation with a lot of grey areas, but I didn't want fear to keep me from this dialogue. So I dove into the topic and the response was overwhelming in the best way. Now let's dive back in!   Here's what I won't do: Tell you what to do. Give you a script to regurgitate to yourself and others to justify any of your actions. Shame or judge you for your past or your current decisions. Try to fix you or convince you of anything.   What I hope to do: Point you to Jesus, Scripture, and nuance. Normalize a healthy conversation around sex, sexuality, desire, and yes— masturbation The word alone can feel shame inducing, right? How many times do you say ‘masturbation' out loud on a regular basis? God is not ashamed of our sexual desire and sexuality—he created it (Genesis 1: 26-31). Give you tools to equip you to navigate your faith, values, and a dialogue around masturbation. Don't take my word for it—I'm not God. This is where I am at after close to 7 years of researching, praying, doubting, trial and error, and tough conversations. God created you with a mind—use it! Finally, it's ok if we don't see eye to eye—we can still love, respect, and honor one another even if we come to different conclusions.   My Personal Story:  Before we move forward with vision and walk out today with clarity, we have to be willing to look backwards: how, why, and through what means did we get here? Home: ‘It's okay to masturbate.' School: Silence. Friends: Silence, masked conversations, and shame. Culture: ‘Do what feels good.' Church: All wrong, all the time, shut down your desire until marriage—only guys struggle with sexual desire.    4 Questions to Ask Yourself What do you currently believe about masturbation and why? What were you taught about masturbation at home, school, from friends, culture, and church? Where and how were those beliefs formed? Are those sexual scripts/beliefs rooted in fear or freedom? Identify the shame agenda + the Jesus agenda.   The Big ‘O': The Power of the Orgasm When we orgasm, dopamine and oxytocin are released in a surge in our bodies. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter released from the reward center part of our brain associated with pleasure. Oxytocin is a feel-good hormone. One of its sole purposes is to create deep bonds between people. This is like “soul ties.”   The Harem Within: C.S. Lewis   “For me the real evil of masturbation would be that it takes an appetite which, in lawful use, leads the individual out of himself…and turns it back: sends the man back into the prison of himself, there to keep a harem of imaginary brides. And this harem, once admitted, works against his ever getting out and really uniting with a real woman. For the harem is always accessible, always subservient, calls for no sacrifices or adjustments, and can be endowed with erotic and psychological attractions which no real woman can rival. Among those shadowy brides he is always adored, always the perfect lover: no demand is made on his unselfishness, no mortification ever imposed on his vanity. In the end, they become merely the medium through which he increasingly adores himself . . . .After all, almost the main work of life is to come out of our selves, out of the little, dark prison we are all born in. Masturbation is to be avoided as all things are to be avoided which retard this process. The danger is that of coming to love the prison”[1]     My pleasure is #1 priority   Ephesians 5: Respect our husbands and husbands to serve their wives like Christ served the church. Our sexual experiences with our spouses should be outward focused, let's serve each other—not ‘I'm feeling turned on, get me off, and then roll over.'     Ends on self   Sexuality = desire for ‘o' others. Gets us outside of our heads and into relationship/community with others.     No iron sharpens iron here folks   Conflict resolution. Mirrors of each other. Constant growth. “Brides always adored” or “yes men.”     FANTASY LAND: Loving the prison more than real life   I don't want to get so good at getting myself off that I don't need another person. 91% of millennials masturbate (19 and 36 for SKYN's 2018 Millennial Sex Survey, and found that 91 percent of respondents masturbated.) 2015—Pornhub site: 60% of its users were millennials. Compartmentalized and scratching an itch that we don't need to/want to take the risk of being in a relationship and dating. Avoiding: heartbreak, awkwardness, conflict, rejection. Is this why so many of us in the church are single? We're getting just enough of our “itches” scratched that the risk of truly putting ourselves out there to be in a relationship is not worth it?    Don't worry, I won't leave you hanging. Process what we've just gone through today and get ready for Part 2 coming next Wednesday. In the meantime, journal through the questions I ask above under “4 Questions to Ask Yourself.” Make sure you're subscribed to the podcast so the next episode will download straight to your devices!!   [1] C.S. We are all busy, driven, passion-filled retailers. We have big visions, big dreams, and we're constantly working to achieve those goals and succeed. But, there are three things that I see happening regularly with retailers who end up losing or closing their business. 1. Complacency. Not in the sense that you don't care about your business. You've just stopped paying attention. Paying attention to your customer's needs, your business standards, the look of your shop. Maybe you've stopped looking for new product lines or stopped paying attention to your marketing strategies. You're just busy! I get it. But we can't always blame external things anymore, we have to look inward, set aside our ego, and really dig into the details. Mindset Shift - Refresh and review your store standards! Set goals and get motivated! 2. Dissatisfaction in our job. Many retailers are natural creatives and are always looking for the next new and shiny thing, right? Building the store was fun, but now you're in year two, three, or even five and feeling like you want to do something else. Are you tired? Not paying yourself enough? Bored? Ask Yourself - What was my big picture? What's my why? What's going RIGHT in my business? 3. Neglect. This is a big one and I see it all too often. You are so busy in the day-to-day busyness of our business that you're not paying attention to the skills gaps or the attention to details as you should be, you know you need to freshen things up, learn new ways, but there just aren't enough hours in the day and the thought of having to learn something new in order to stay fresh and relevant is daunting. It's time to revisit or reimagine your vision and go after it! Full show notes at https://wendybatten.com/episode-62/

Y'all I am so excited for this book! I can wait for the world to experience it. If you want to know more about the book, I had Lindsey on the podcast late last year (2020) on Episode 34.  Today we're going to go deep into the study of mindset, but also help you understand where you need to shift your mindset and how.    Carol Dweck, PhD, authored the book, “Mindset, The New Psychology of Success.”She compares people who have a  “fixed” mindset to those who have a “growth”mindset What's the difference you ask?  Fixed Mindset: According to Dwek, an individual who believes that they have a particular group of qualities, traits and talents that are permanently set.  For example, “I'm terrible at math” or “I can never get that job!” A Growth Mindset has the complete opposite approach, individuals who hold a growth mindset believe that almost any challenge can be overcome, any failure is an opportunity to grow, and any talent or ability can be improved through learning and action.  Now at this point you might already be aware of which midget represents you best. If you're stuck on a fixed one, let work towards shifting it into growth. In my friend Lindsey's book she shared a powerful strategy that can help folks who want to pivot to a growth approach.  She uses a three letter word: “YET”. Instead of always thinking and believing that “you can't do” or “you don” to any sentence add the word “yet” and it will shift to how you see, hear, believe and think about your abilities.  This just a small step to eliminate a limiting belief of what can be something great! Here's an example: “I don't have the interview skills to succeed… it's hopeless” ASK YOURSELF: What can you do to help you prepare to improve your interviewing skills.  Now the journey to shift your mindset takes time and work in changing your behaviors. YOU NEED TO PRACTICE and remind yourself before you say I CAN'T or I DON'T of the word YET! If this episode has brought you value in any way go out and share with someone you think needs to hear this! I am excited for all the things to come on the podcast, but if your in a place/space where you're considering coaching and need help with your mindset below is my contact info. You never saw yourself as a complainer, heck, you still don’t. Yet, what used to be a rare occurrence based on a situation, complaining about the traffic you hit during rush hour or complaining about your co-worker after they dropped the ball on a project and left you having to work until all hours to clean it up, has now become an everyday habit.Things that should be rolling off your back are substantial and are getting a part in your play of life. It is as if your natural set point is level at complainingAre you listening to the intro and thinking, “Not me?” then you are far more advanced than most of us humans. In this episode, we are going to explore the world that is riddled with complainers and share thoughts and ideas around how you can catch yourself and stop your complaining habit. How to stop complaining and How to deal with complainers. Set boundaries. When you hear someone complain, walk away. Don’t engage, don’t entice, don’t comment. Put as much distance from them as you can. Challenge their thinking. Ask them, “do you feel better now that you said that out loud? What solutions do you think we can bring forth that may present a different outcome or situation?” Complaint clock. You get 30 seconds...GO! This creates walls around the complaints, allows the complainer to feel heard without anyone feeding into it. The Second Phase Podcast - Personal Branding & Brand Marketing and Life Strategies for Success for Female Entrepreneurs

Self-compassion means being warm, kind, and giving yourself grace. Have you ever felt like a sheet being tossed to and fro in the dryer? A lack of self-compassion and clarity can leave us feeling like a sheet in the dryer. Swish, shush, swish, and a ton of other noise going on in our mind as it spins with overwhelm. Often, but especially during the holiday season, we feel like we don't have direction or clarity and it's important to give ourselves the gift of self-compassion. Instead of having self-compassion, we often only see what's wrong with us.  We lack compassion and self-judgment overrules. Krista Resnick saw this first-hand with her photography clients and decided to become a life coach so that she could do deeper work and impact women and how they feel about themselves. Everything Happens For a Reason When we are on a journey, every experience leads us to something more meaningful, for purpose. We need to stop looking at life from why is this happening to me, to why is this happening for me? This outlook shift will move us from a victim's mindset to become seekers.  This mindset shift will help us heal and grow and be our authentic, beautiful selves. What Does Self-Compassion mean? Self-compassion means to be warm, kind, and to give yourself grace. That is true self-compassion.  Talking to ourselves like we would talk to a friend.  We give compassion to others, but no for ourselves. When we aren't coming from a place of self-compassion, we are coming from a place of self-judgment. Self-judgement is a form of protection.  It is a way to protect ourselves from being hurt or judged.  We are judging ourselves so others can't judge us.  If we are being cruel to ourselves by judging ourselves. This is an act of blocking ourselves from expansion, up-leveling, growing, and stepping into the most powerful version of ourselves. When we are doing this to ourselves, we can't build relationships with others. Self-Love and Self-Compassion go Hand-in-Hand Self-love is the power cord to all things.  Knowing that you were made for something powerful and great and that you are enough. We aren't taught how to have self-compassion or to love ourselves. Self-judgment is Learned and Blocks Self-Compassion Many people have been taught to judge themselves. When people grow up in a home of judgment and squashing of ideas, they will be more likely to judge themselves and lack self-compassion. Start to make judgment unfamiliar and start to make self-compassion familiar. Awareness Awareness is where we begin.  We can't change what we aren't aware of.  But we have to embody the beliefs and implement them.   It takes action.  Information doesn't equate to transformation.  Embodiment, action, and intention have to come into play. Patience is an underutilized tool.  It's not a one and done when it comes to learning self-compassion.  You can't just read about it, you have to take action. Fear leads us to procrastination and when we procrastinate, we don't take action to embody the things we need to embrace self-compassion. Ask Yourself What is it that stops you from practicing self-compassion? Clarity It is often clarity that stops us from having self-compassion and taking action to achieve our goals and dreams. You have to have clarity around that to be able to shift it. "Clear is kind.  Unclear is unkind." – Brene Brown Not being clear on what you want in your life causes suffering. The mind knows that once we get clear we have to take action, and taking action is intimidating. Find out what stops you from practicing self-compassion. When you are kind to yourself, is when you have terrific gains. 3 Elements of Self-Compassion Self-awareness We cannot shift what we are not aware of.  Notice when are you being the mean girl. When do you feel low? When are you bombarding yourself with the should have's, etc. Common Humanity We have to stop isolating ourselves because we aren't the only ones going through hard things.  Every human has pain and suffering. We are all in this together and should be supporting each other. Kindness over judgment Kindness over self-judgment. Grace over self-berating. I am enough.  I deserve unconditional love.  If we aren't nice to ourselves, how will we rise and make the impact we are meant to make.  You can't rise and answer your diving calling if you don't have self-compassion. Action Start to make self-compassion familiar. Patience and Grace What stops me from being more compassionate with myself? Identify What stops me from being warm and understanding with myself? What are my go-to self-judgments? Take self-judgments and flip them – write them in the voice of self-compassion Identify one way we can give ourselves grace? Everything starts with just one thing. Honor yourself by taking action to that one thing to offer yourself grace. It's important to write these out, not type them so that the brain can truly connect with them. Be aware of the two voices: the voice of judgment and the voice of compassion. Notice when you take that action how it feels in the body.  What is your mind offering you when you take that grace.  Pay attention to your body and trust yourself to know when it's time to give yourself another compassion break. Patience Much of this work is about slowing down.  Patience comes into play to be able to slow down, take time, don't rush through it, and we'll know when it's time to move forward with another step. Often times when we slow down, we start to panic.  Rushing through life is a response to trauma.  So when we stop, a flood of emotions come into our mind and heart. Then we want to numb ourselves. Picking up our phones or other addictions are tools we use to numb ourselves. When these moments come, take an inventory of what's going on.  Take them as a reminder to slow down and treasure the emotions and moments that are fleeting. The Motivation Movement | Inspirational Quotes, Daily Advice, Lifestyle Design, Personal Development

Where does one begin on the journey of trying to feel better about themselves, be more decisive, more confident, have higher levels of self-esteem? POSITIVE INTERNAL DIALOGUE. ASK YOURSELF: What are the triggers that have you feeling down? Do you keep finding yourself in stressful situations at work, school and/or at home? What are your thoughts like when you find yourself in one of these predicaments? Is your self-talk generally positive or negative? “Wouldn’t it be powerful if you fell in love with yourself so deeply that you would do just about anything if you knew it would make you happy? This is precisely how much life loves you and wants you to nurture yourself. The deeper you love yourself, the more the universe will affirm your worth. Then you can enjoy a lifelong love affair that brings you the richest fulfillment from inside out.” - Alan Cohen I challenge you to flip the script on your life story. Maybe you’ve had doubts about your potential in the past, but today is the day you can begin to love yourself, then let the ripple effect re-build your confidence and self-esteem. If you recite a particular idea to yourself frequently enough, you’ll eventually convince yourself. It’s like positive version of when someone says, “this guy lies so much, he’s starting to believe his own bullshit,” except in this case, you’re not lying to yourself . . . Be very careful when negative thoughts do infiltrate your internal dialogue, do not mistake them for FACTS. Just because you feel like a loser, does not mean you actually are a loser. We tend to be very critical of ourselves, very harsh, it’s only constructive to a certain degree though. @mRuddo #TheMotivationMovement mRuddo.com Click to view: show page on Awesound

Last week we talked about the importance of Taking An Honest Look at where you are, and where you're going. This week, I want to continue in this vein and consider how we can best prepare for entering into a new season; even shifting our heart and mind toward the new opportunities that lie ahead. Dive in as we talk about Experiencing the Shift: 7 Things You Can Do to Prepare For a New Beginning. What does it mean, to experience the shift? We're talking about preparing to enter into a new season, and embrace the opportunities it presents. What's next? What's coming ahead? The shift in your heart, mind, and thinking can shift the course of your upcoming year. Confidently pursue the interests and passions you have, and place strategic goals around those interests and passions, by experiencing the shift. The Process of Evaluating Life: Why am I here? What is my destiny and my calling? Is what I am doing making a difference? Am I doing what I was created to do? Am I happy doing what I am doing? Am I satisfied with the results I'm seeing in my life, year to year? 7 Things You Can Do To Prepare For a New Beginning: Embrace the possibilities (the Word of God about you) If you can think it, you can do it. If you can dream it, you can have it. God has tremendous, beautiful, successful plans for your life. Close out old accounts If there are unresolved issues, or if you're carrying negative balances forward, close the account. Forget the past You cannot engage this shift or a new day, if you are stuck in an old account, old deficit, or old experience. Revisit – OR – Reimagine your dreams Go back and dust your dreams off. Remember your passions and interests, without filters. Write down what you see. Change your thinking Go after the limiting beliefs (lies) and reprogram (renew) your mind. What do you hold as beliefs that are holding you back from realizing truths? Align yourself with like-minded people Be intentional about letting some relationships go. Be specific about aligning yourself with like-minded people, who will challenge your perspective. Master mind groups are a great example. Develop, write, and execute the vision Take the time to write your dream out, break it into meaningful steps and goals, so you can execute your plan. Questions to Ask Yourself: What old accounts do you need to close out as you approach a new year? What possibilities await you? What dreams do you need to re-visit or awaken? What beliefs do you presently hold that may stand in the way of you realizing the SHIFT? What about your relationships?

The Strategic Living Podcast with Brian Holmes

One hindrance to moving forward that often crops up is an internal dialogue laced with pessimism, fear, and the unknown. No doubt, you're aware of the tragic situation unfolding in Europe and the Middle East this past week, where radical extremists took the lives of hundreds of people. Of course, our thoughts and prayers are poured out over everyone affected by these tragic events. When events like this happen, it can fan the flame of fear, especially of the unknown. I don't believe we were created to live in a state of constant fear, however. This week, I want to unpack some deep, thoughtful points about Fearless & Forward: 3 Kind of Fear & How to Overcome Them. The definition of fear: An unpleasant often strong emotion, caused by anticipation or awareness of danger; An instance of this emotion; A state marked by this emotion; Anxious concern; Reason for alarm. 1. The Fear of Man: The opinions of others Perceived status or lack thereof Loss of approval Loss of love Performance/reward (am I good enough to impress?) Fear of enemies or opposition (go along to get along) Fear of rejection Fear of job loss/financial ruin People pleasing vs. God pleasing 2. Fear of Risk: Success and fulfillment ONLY comes to those who are willing to risk the present for the sake of a better future. The best things in life come to those who look risk and even failure in the eye, and DO IT anyway. Fear of risk (and failure) will cheat you out of the joy and success of what COULD BE and lock you into the WHAT IS. 3. Fear of Failure: Someone once said “Failure is not an option.” Yes, it is! If you try and fail, at least you tried. Subjecting yourself to fear of failure (or fear of risk) will lock you into the present and keep you from having what God has determined in His own mind he wants you to have. Fear stifles our thinking and actions. It creates indecisiveness that results in stagnation. I have known talented people who procrastinate indefinitely rather than risk failure. Lost opportunities cause erosion of confidence, and the downward spiral begins. ~ Charles Stanley Pitiful is the person who is afraid of taking risks. Perhaps this person will never be disappointed or disillusioned; perhaps she won't suffer the way people do when they have a dream to follow. But when that person looks back – and at some point everyone looks back – she will hear her heart saying, “What have you done with the miracles that God planted in your days? What have you done with the talents God bestowed on you? You buried yourself in a cave because you were fearful of losing those talents. So this is your heritage; the certainty that you wasted your life. ~ Paul Coelho If we listened to our intellect, we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a friendship. We'd never go into business, because we'd be cynical. Well, that's nonsense. You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down. ~Ray Bradbury Questions to Ask Yourself: What are your dreams? What has God called you to accomplish or do? What business, relationship, job, book?

Whether it's due to a stressful event in our personal lives or an unexpected situation occurs at work that causes us to feel upset, worried, or otherwise stressed - we all experience moments when we think we're prepared for just about anything, but something unexpected occurs. The question is - how do you handle bad days?  In today's episode, I share a recent bad day experience I had at work and the strategies I used to put that situation into perspective. I discuss the importance of identifying what you know to be true about a bad experience or situation and how it can differ from the story you tell yourself in the heat of the moment. I explain the process I used to help me learn from that experience, to allow me to make better decisions in the future when a similar situation arises. I also explain why it's critical to separate your feelings and emotions from the facts of an event and how it can change your entire perspective on a situation. “We all have bad days. Discovering your gift is the first part, living it is equally important. No one else has your unique gift and so only you can express it into the world. And every individual has a responsibility to humanity. A responsibility to share our heart vibration out to the world. You discover your gifts through tuning IN, so you can then serve OUT into the world – to be of service to what you are becoming. When someone releases their gift, they're releasing the next stage of their own evolution and activating that same vibration and frequency in others as well. It's why we're here – to uplift each other and raise the vibration of the planet. To share your gift, start by taking action. Imagine that you wake up every day and can't wait to do what you love. Imagine that your gift is tapping you on the shoulder and saying, ‘hey let's do this!'. Take those feelings and explore all the ideas that come forth about how you must practically express your gifts. This is where you connect your heart and head. Your heart and your head are like two advisors. They behave in different ways and use different vocabulary. Our head is where the reasoning, logic, and thoughts dwell. When someone releases their gift, they’re releasing the next stage of their own evolution and activating that same vibration and frequency in others as well. It’s why we’re here – to uplift each other and raise the vibration of the planet. To share your gift, start by taking action. Imagine that you wake up every day and can’t wait to do what you love. Imagine that your gift is tapping you on the shoulder and saying, ‘hey let’s do this!’. Take those feelings and explore all the ideas that come forth about how you must practically express your gifts. This is where you connect your heart and head. Your heart and your head are like two advisors. They behave in different ways and use different vocabulary. Our head is where the reasoning, logic, and thoughts dwell. It’s what we use to think things through and debate the “pro’s and the con’s.”Our heart is where our intuition resides. It is the source of that little voice that guides us, if we let it. Instagram Mindset - How To Feel Good On The Gram Let's examine your Instagram mindset real quick. Have you ever looked at someone’s Instagram account before and felt a knot in your stomach for whatever reason? And then you get stuck in your own head thinking, “Am I ever going to get there?” or “What’s the point?” Or maybe you see someone in your own niche that you look at with envy because they’re always launching or coming out with something amazing, and you wish you could do that? Have you ever been there? ‘Cause that is imposter syndrome and when your inner critic comes to play, she’s never nice to you. Today, I want to talk to you about your Instagram mindset and those times when being on Instagram makes you feel less than. I’m going to share seven strategies to help you cope with your Instagram mindset and push through the imposter syndrome because in those moments, we are not our thoughts! And when we really work on our mindset, we are able to achieve so much growth in all aspects of our lives. Mindset work is something that we cover inside my private academy, The Social Method Society because your mind is a powerful tool that’s linked to your success. If you’re interested in learning more about a holistic Instagram marketing strategy, then you need to join. The doors are not always open, but you should jump on the waitlist so you're notified as soon as the doors are open again. Now, let’s jump into seven ways to help you feel good on the Gram! KEY TAKEAWAYS: >> [1:08] Do you experience imposter syndrome? Do any of the examples I mention here relate to you? If you’re nodding along, then girlfriend, we need to silence your inner critic ASAP. >> [2:04] When your inner critic comes to play, she’s never very nice to you. It’s important to know that going through this from time to time is totally normal! The good news is that you do NOT have to stay there. You can move through imposter syndrome with the tips I’m sharing today. >> [2:43] I’m sharing 7 tips to help you move through imposter syndrome to improve your Instagram mindset. These tips are coming from myself, other women in the Mums With Hustle Community and some members who are killing it in the Social Method Society. >> [4:07] The first strategy is a bit of a band-aid solution which is to unfollow people or stop looking at accounts that make you feel less than. I don’t feel like this is the best one, but it should get an honorable mention since many people recommend doing it. >> [5:07] The second strategy is that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, sometimes it’s fake. This analogy is brought to you by Colin Boyd. The deeper meaning behind this quote is powerful. We never actually know how things really are on the inside of that business or in that person’s personal life. >> [7:36] My third tip is going to help you get into your own self-awareness. When you’re self-aware of WHAT and WHY something is triggering you, you’ll be able to shift into a space where you can work through your feelings and make it mean nothing. ASK YOURSELF: What about this account, person, particular caption or photo, etc. is triggering me? How do I think, feel and believe because I’m looking at this account? Is there something specific that I'm I making it mean for me? Do I truly even believe my thoughts right now? Can I find an example that proves this otherwise? >> [9:24] Tip number four is all about disconnecting! Put the phone down and go do something that turns your lights on. This is something that my friend Julia Black spoke about before on the podcast. Her episode was MWH 179 : The Importance of Passion in Unlocking Your Mindset with Julia Black of Explorium. >> [10:03] The fifth strategy is to know that you don’t have to go at it alone in business. Become part of a network where you can go and speak about how you’re feeling. Never underestimate the power of relationships and friendships to help make you feel b...

Don't Forget To Change The Inside   For a moment imagine you got a really really deep cut on your arm. You look at it and think “I'm just going to cover this up.” So, you take a Band-Aid and you covered up. You don't clean it. You don't put any disinfectant on it or even any ointment or cream to help it heal. Does it sound like a smart idea? Oh no it doesn't. Of course, you want to clean and disinfect and allow that wound to heal properly from the inside out. Yes, you want to protect the outside. The outside is important. But, without that inside being right without that inside healing and becoming what it needs to be that outside isn't as going to matter as much. If it's there in an infection growing, if the inside isn't right, if the inside is unhealthy, then even if that outside heals a little bit and starts to look good that inside is going  to be rotten and will fester becoming be very infected. And it will eventually show right through to the outside. You can't heal that wound from the outside in. If that infection is deep in there, you need to get it out. You gotta let it heal from the inside out.   Change From The Inside Out So how does this infected arm relate to achieving your goals, becoming who you want to be, having the life you want, and enjoying life? Simple. Remember to change the inside when you are making any changes to the outside. Let just say you want to have more energy to achieve your goals. You know that taking action will take energy. So, you start drinking a lot more coffee to get more energy. That would be focusing on the outside. Or, you could choose to focus on addressing the inside. work on the inside you decide to improve your sleep habits, get a little exercise, and eat healthier foods. Over time, you start to have more energy and you don't have the crash of tons of coffee. Thats changing from the inside out. Positive changes are sustainable when you change what's inside. What if you want to be healthier? Pretty much that same example works here too. You can exercise to improve your health. Exercise is great. But, if maintain an unhealthy diet full of donuts, candy, and junk food, then you could be just as unhealthy even with exercising. Change works when you change the inside too.   Ask Yourself What is it that you want to achieve? How can you become the person who achieves it? What you put into your body? Mind? Do you need to change your mindset to become who you want to be?    ______________________ Listen on YouTube: NickMaizy.com/YTL Find my recommended reading: NickMaizy.com/books More material at: NickMaizy.com

This Organized Life

Today we are continuing with part 2 of our series on the 5 CLUTTER PITFALLS, and today we are talking about INDECISION. Last week we talked all PROCRASTINATION, so if you haven’t had a chance to listen to it, I encourage you to hit the pause button and go back to check it out. 5-CLUTTER PITFALL MODEL Indecision is defined as: the inability to make a decision quickly. The bigger question is WHAT causes someone to be indecisive?   1.   The most common reason of all for being indecisive – Fear of making a mistake. Making a decision means you might be wrong- and nobody likes to be wrong.   2. Fear of hurting someone's feelings. Often, making a decision means choosing one thing over another. As humans, we want to be liked and don’t want to say or do something that will jeopardize someone’s feelings towards you. We call this emotional clutter and see it all the time when it comes to gifts we’ve received. Everything from grandmas china to the ugly blouse your aunt got you for your birthday   3.   The “what if” factor. We can come up with all kinds of scenarios in our mind to convince ourselves that we need something. Indecision allows doubt to creep into our mind This fear results in paralysis by analysis (think about that tool that you once used, but is taking up space in the garage).   "People want to feel good about their decisions."   Ask Yourself? What am I afraid of? How easy is this to replace?  Is there someone else who can put this to good use? What can we do to reduce Indecision? Pick the easy stuff first If you get stuck “pass and move on” Don’t let indecision pile up (think mail) Identify your triggers: Are you trying to do a task when you are tired after a long day at work? Do you have too many distractions (i.e. little kids at home that constantly need you?) Are you trying to fit it in when you have “free time” rather than dedicate time to focus on this area? Do you need an accountability partner (someone to talk it through and give you permission to let go) Are you an obliger and need some outer accountability and struggle with keeping that appointment for yourself? I've been thinking a lot about prioritizing lately, especially since my calendar was crammed with things to do prior to the launch of my recent book, If Trees Could Talk: Life Lessons from the Wisdom of the Woods. And it didn't stop once the book was launched: I've been very busy ever since. I had to make decisions about what to do, and when, and which things I could bump to a later date in my calendar. I wanted to share my reflections with you, since time management and prioritizing tasks and activities can be a big challenge for many people.   Listen To This Episode        What You'll Learn How to organize your life with Google Calendar (or something similar) Why time blocking is so important How to figure out what your non-negotiable tasks/activities are How to organize your regular tasks and recurring events How to break bigger goals into specific tasks so you can time block them How to design your ideal week and see how that compares to reality Why it's so important to leave open slots in your calendar What to do when you have a scheduling conflict How to decide what to do and which task/activity is the priority Questions to ask yourself so you can easily make decisions + know your priorities Examples of recent things I've had to rearrange and why, so you can see how I do this   Things I Discussed Survey Life categories: social/friends, family, fitness/outdoors/Nature, self care/me time, spiritual and personal growth, hobbies, career/business, health/wellbeing, creativity/self expression The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, by Marie Kondō Boomerang for Gmail   Questions to Ask Yourself What's more important? Can one of the activities be rearranged without overcomplicating things or inconveniencing someone else? Are other people involved? If so, that might make rearranging more difficult Do you have the time/money to do this right now, or can/should you rearrange it for a later date? Do you absolutely need to do this activity NOW (for example, because there's a deadline), or can you do it at a later time/date? Do YOU absolutely need to do this task/activity yourself, or can you outsource it? Do you absolutely NEED to do this task/activity now, or is it just nice to do? Can you bump it to a later date/time in your calendar, or consider not doing it at all? Is there another date/time/location you can do this? Does this activity spark joy? If not, do you really need to do it? Can you get someone else to help or do it for you? Coach Sam welcomes Christian Davidson to the show today where their in-depth conversation leads them to share stories & experiences that uncover destructive patterns and behaviors of men in today’s society. Parable #1: Turning Points Christian was initially introduced to Warrior when he received a text from his friend that read, “You’ve got to check out this video! This guy’s crazy!” Christian found Garrett’s message riveting & compelling and wanted to feel the certainty and fire that Garrett was displaying. His buddy suggested they do Warrior Week together but in the end, it was Christian who ultimately reached out to Coach Sam, forever altering the trajectory of his life. ASK YOURSELF Describe a significant turning point in your life.   Parable #2: Freedom & Fire In the years leading up to his immersion into Warrior, there were areas of Christan’s life that he felt had slipped and fallen; where he experienced subtle change and erosion over time due to his choices and stories. This brought with it heaviness, disappointment, and guilt that built up and clogged his energy. After Warrior, Christian experienced freedom and fire as he used the tools of Warrior, coupled with the accountability he found within the brotherhood. ASK YOURSELF Where in your world have you awakened to and noticed subtle erosion over time?   Parable #3: Stacking Obstacles As a teen, Christian had established a strong foundation in certain areas of his life through his choices and daily disciplines which continued through his 20s. In his 30s, as he took on more responsibility with marriage, children, and business, those disciplines shifted. Like many men, Christian began feeling shame and guilt as he started moving away from those disciplines and moved deeper into a pit. How does this happen? How do we find ourselves suddenly out of a routine that has been working so well for us for many years?   ASK YOURSELF What daily routines & disciplines did you change or give up once you entered into your marriage? Why?   Parable #4: Define Your Outcomes When men get married, most begin focusing on their business and body at the expense of their relationships and spirituality. Why? Because the hustle of business and body can be easily measured, while results in the areas of relationships and spiritually are built around assumptions and comparisons. In the 90 days post-Warrior, Christian was able to define for himself what successful outcomes looked like in all four areas of his life, including the oft-times difficult to define areas of relationships and spirituality, a practice he continues to find life-altering. ASK YOURSELF How do you define success in all areas of your life? What are those definitions based on?   Parable #5: Isolation Twenty years into his marriage, Christian experienced a divorce. His feelings of self-worth had dropped, and looking back, he felt he didn’t handle circumstances well at the time. “When I should have been communicating more, I communicated less.” When things inside of his business began crashing, instead of slowing things down and opening up to his wife about their circumstances, he doubled down on work and kept it all inside to try to protect her and their four children from the stress of it all. ASK YOURSELF What do you keep from your spouse in order to “protect” them? Parables from the Pit: “You’re uncomfortable in the presence of truth because you’re a fucking liar. What if you began to practice the art of telling the truth?“ —Sam Falsafi “Wake Up Warrior is a unique tribe of powerful men, unlike anything we normally associate with in our day-to-day associations & connections; a tribe of truth hunters who are seeking expansion in every area of their life.“  -Christian Davidson

Part 2 of a 6-part series on Cognitive Biases and how they impact us and our money each and every day! It's important to know what these are because they are impacting the way you make decisions and the way you think about your finances every single day. In this episode, we discuss how the Availability Heuristic bias is impacting the way we think of ourselves as money managers In this episode we'll talk about: Availability Heuristic - what it is and how it's being used to affect my  decision-making How this shows up on a regular basis for us How it's impacting the way we think of ourselves as money managers How we can overcome this bias Additional strategies and tips: ASK YOURSELF---> What do your older memories say about how you are as a money manager? What do your newer/more recent memories say about how you manage your money? How are you allowing these older memories to influence your current decisions? What decisions have you made recently without looking to statistics - or using your budget? Surround yourself with people doing GOOD THINGS FINANCIALLY will actually lead you to believe it's more likely to happen to you. Surround yourself with people doing BAD THINGS WITH MONEY will influence your belief around the likelihood that you will too. Ask yourself if your fear or belief has any basis in statistics? This is also why we look at our budget to make a decision. If we have been in the repeated position on not being able to afford things, it is likely then that when we have to make a decision, we assume we will not be able to afford it - that's the most likely outcome simply because we remember all the times we haven't been able to afford it- they are emotionally more memorable than being able to buy something. Coach Sam welcomes Smiljan Mori to the podcast this week. When Smiljan knocked on the doors of Warrior Week, he was seeking tools and systems that would enable him to serve his family in the best possible way. What he found instead was the man he had always desired to be: himself. He has since moved forward with various challenges within Warrior and is on the path to becoming a Certified Trainer as of the date of this recording. ________________________________________________________ POINT 1: A Better Father As he held his newborn daughter in his arms, Smiljan promised himself he would be in her life more than his father had been in his. Smiljan’s memory of his father was that he was either away on business or arguing with his mother. Despite making that promise, it was seven years before Smiljan realized he never played with his children and wasn’t being the kind of father he wanted to be. Ask Yourself: What promises have you made to yourself that you're not following through with? ________________________________________________________ POINT 2: False Identity It was through his involvement with Warrior that Smiljan realized he had been running away from the responsibility of being a husband and a father, and with that realization came a massive emotional release. Coach Sam recalls how Smiljan's life was a reflection of his own: A man traveling in a different domain, an accent just like his, and traveling most of the year; a man with a sense of significance and a false identity, who preferred traveling to remote places all over the world over being with his family. Ask Yourself: Where in your world are you running away from your responsibilities? ________________________________________________________ POINT 3: Metrics At the end of every year, Smiljan tracks the metrics inside of his business. Since entering Warrior last year, the first thing he now tracks are the number of days he is away from his family, which number has been cut in half since Warrior, with a goal to cut that number in half next year. What has become more important than the revenue, the profits, or the Kings Cash, is not only tracking the number of days away from his family but the number of days he spends with his family. Ask Yourself: How many days you spend away from your family each year? ________________________________________________________ POINT 4: Making Tough Decisions As a successful insurance businessman, Smiljan was always willing to negotiate and make agreements with others to keep them with the company. The #1 gift he received at Warrior Week is that he is no longer afraid of making tough decisions. When he returned from Warrior Week with an increase of masculine energy, he was met with resistance. He was more straightforward, decisive, and demanding of himself and others. Amidst this newfound energy, he has learned he needs to have patience. Ask Yourself: Where in your world are you making changes within yourself that are causing resistance from others? ________________________________________________________ POINT 5: Lead With the Pain Smiljan is noticing a shift taking place in Europe at his speaking engagements and events. Where just a year ago 90% of the participants were women, the numbers are now more like 60/40, with more couples attending together. Smiljan has changed his energy and his message, which is attracting more men to his events. Previously, he didn’t like to share his pain because he believed that by sharing the pain, people would not follow him. However, he now leads with his pain right out of the gate. Ask Yourself: What pain are you afraid to share? ________________________________________________________ Parables From the Pit:   “I was the guy in the suit, and the suit was saying: I’d rather have the identity the suit is giving me than my family.”   --Sam Falsafi   “I don’t want to be perfect anymore.”   --Smiljan Mori ________________________________________________________

Today I am sharing one of my Instagram posts about the topic of Hormonal Acne since it got such an amazing response from my audience. This episode is all about treating and healing skin when it sends us signs that something is wrong. Here is my personal story, I battled for over 8 years with acne, now I have clear skin, but believe me it wasn't always like this. I started dealing with very bad acne during my second pregnancy. It was a baby boy, and I started thinking that my boy’s testosterone might be affecting my skin, and also found that the males in my family had suffered from terrible acne. I tried everything! And nothing worked. Researching in my own life, I realized that taking birth control pills for many years and using a prescription cream for 9 years twice a day had kept the acne under control but when I stopped them, the acne came out. It was always there, but I did not notice it until years later.  I was talking with a friend who has treated anxiety with Chinese medicine and I realized that I haven't been paying attention to my liver! The heat in my liver was causing this waking. I started acupuncture, along with liver and kidney tonics, and I started to notice the difference in my skin! Detoxing too fast did not help, time was needed for me to heal. It took a full year to see the real change. Today, I know my skin is my GPS, it tells me when I am getting off road. Find the right questions you need to ask yourself below, as well as the steps to follow to heal your skin starting from within!   Ask Yourself ● What is going on in your liver? ● What is happening with your hormones? Get the right tests. ● Are you detoxing? Are you eliminating? ● What is your B12 like? Vitamin D? ● How is your thyroid doing? ● Where do you break out? ● What is going on in your gut? Do you have any digestive imbalances? ● Which products are you using? ● Are you eating real whole foods? ● How much water are you drinking? ● Are you under stress? ● Pollution! Check your house for hormone disruptors. ● Do you have issues with your period? ● Do you struggle with extra body hair?   Steps 1. Clean the crap out and bring the good stuff in! Listen to this episode to know which products and foods you need to avoid and which to include. (This is the hardest step, but the most crucial one.) 2. Have the right supplements: Probiotics, Omega 3, Magnesium, Whole food complex and Vitamin D.  Also a B Complex and liver support. 3. Check your gut, liver, adrenals and thyroid. 4. Sync your cycle. Get your free Syncing Guide! 5. Look at the imbalances. 6. Slow down! Sleep. 7. Skin care regime (Listen and find night and morning regimes just for you!)   Learn more about Jenn’s work: Jenn Pike The Hormone Project The Simplicity Project Shop for books, DVDs, programs and much more! Hope less to live more. Presence is the true present of living with less hope, being in a place of less expectation and control, more trust, flow, and freedom in my being. This is a deep acceptance of what is in my experience in a fuller way, where I can experience more and not exist from the place where hoping that things would be different was a helpful tool of survival. In this podcast, I share a personal story of what made me break, lose all hope, and become more present to the true moments that exist now. This is an exploration of how hope can be helpful and unhelpful, as well as thoughts about what can be embedded and masked in the concept of hope. The presents or presence of being hope-less? ;)   A Little About A{Live} Now I've found that when I share what's true in the moment, there is so much ALIVENESS and fullness in me. That's why I started the the A{Live} Now mini-series, which is within the Embody Podcast. This is the second episode and I intend to share what's happening in my real life and in my inner world, what's truly full and alive now. What's alive now in me has often been what's filled the juicy stuff of life: themes, joys, or challenges that others may also be experiencing, a fear and other emotions that bring me to the edge of my fullest expression in the moment. As you listen, I will also share snippets of how you can support your own heart and soul, know yourself, be your fullest, or heal and love yourself.   Links, Article, and Resources All Show Notes for This Episode

Coach Sam Falsafi welcomes Warrior Week 36 graduate, Navin Thukkaram, to the show today. Navim is a very successful entrepreneur and a man that has completely transformed his life in the past year by simply believing in the concept of becoming this greater version of himself. "It’s what the journey makes you become, it’s not getting to a finish line," says Navim. "The finish line does not exist." Parable #1: Commitment Navim is from Chicago, his parents are from India. He had a traditional upbringing with a strong emphasis on education. He loved playing golf and was really quite good, so he chose a University that had its own golf course - Princeton - and boasts that he got to play golf and do math all through college. Navim: I feel like when I was growing up, I was cranking non-stop at school from ages 5 to 18 to try to get into an Ivy League school. It was the contract of 'this is what you do.' I always had targets and outcomes I was working towards - go to college, get a lot of money, get respected. I had worked really hard for a very long time, and although it all actually worked out very well, I was super burned out. Ask Yourself: What area of your life do you feel needs a deeper and more consistent commitment from you?   Parable #2: Cooks in the Kitchen Navim: I made my first million in my late 20s. At the time I was a partner at a private equity firm. One of my investments went extremely well, it grew from there, and we sold a little bit of it which was well over a million dollars. I’ve been fortunate to have my good family and education and resources to be successful. Obviously, it’ not about the money, it’s about what the money represents. That represented unbelievable about of commitment and work over a lifetime, and in some ways, it also represented what my parents had done for me over that very long period of time. All those things had to come together to make that happen. There were a lot of cooks in the kitchen that helped make that happen.   Ask Yourself: Who are the people who have contributed to your success?   Parable #3: The Missing Link Coach Sam: In your late 20s, you achieve this and you continue to grind. Obviously, the reward of the money was great and you felt successful. You built a fucking empire. Life is good. And then you go to a Tony Robbins event, and inside of the event, you meet Garrett who tells you to 'talk to Sam.' After you watched some videos, what truly resonated with your heart for you to say: this is something that I want to do? Navim: It was one of Garrett’s first videos where he was walking in Vegas talking about the concept of sedation, and the concept of wanting something more. I’m always doing personal development in some way so it wasn’t like I felt I had hit rock bottom. But I felt like I didn’t have near the energy that I had experienced in previous years, and it was a lack of purpose.    Ask Yourself: What message resonated with you and was the catylist for your entry into Warrior?   Parable #4: Warrior Week Navim: I come into Warrior Week. I’m doing well, but I’m not feeling that energy or purpose. I knew from our conversation and by the way you identified that so effortlessly, that this is the place I needed to be. I was thinking: I don’t know what the fuck these guys are doing, I don’t know why they're wearing all black, I hope this is not some sort of cult, but Garrett is obviously a great guy so I’m going to trust the process. The first thing I felt when you had me in the hole that we had dug for ourselves was that I was very confused. I knew I was in the right place, but I didn’t really know why I was there. I had a feeling as to why I was there, but I couldn’t really articulate it very well. But I knew I was not going to get out of that hole until I convinced you that I knew why I was there.   Ask Yourself: How has trusting the process impacted your life? Parable #5: Measurable Results Coach Sam: For the first time ever, I feel you are balanced enough to have a relationship. For a year you’ve been knocking at the door of fatherhood and relationship. For 27 years, you’ve been programmed as an assassin, and now you meditate and have these moments where you stop and you go to the void for no reason and no purpose, and then you come back. It’s creating balance in your character and the way you communicate. It is a totally different Navim, not that the Navim before was a bad one, but this one is a more dominating, powerful Navim. You’re a badass doing MMA right now, business is booming, the purpose behind your business is clear. You’re meditating, you’re connected to your being. The missing piece of the puzzle is the Balance, but you’re in the most attractive state ever. Ask Yourself: How has being part of Warrior changed your life? Parables from the Pit: "Part of what was missing from Navim was fire. You saw a glance of that fire in Garrett. The heat of that fire warmed you up and attracted you, which brought you into this crazy conversion. Warrior Week burned you to some extent. You and the men of 36 forged this connection - this relationship that most men don't have. It's an invitation for collision, for calling each other out, prompting the highest standard. And that’s what we hold you accountable to." -- Coach Sam Falsafi "You have to remember that your business is a reflection of yourself. Just take a look in the mirror. You have to get that fire first - for yourself - if you’re going to set your business on fire and really take it to the next level. The thing is, when you get yourself right, you can make quantum improvements." --Navin Thukkaram

This is part of the system in place to get your car clean. If you don't follow the system, you won't get the results you're looking to achieve. The same thing happens in life. Sometimes we don't get the results we want if we don't follow a system. If we don't align with the system in place, we'll never get the results we want. There's even a roller in place that moves your car through at the optimum speed so your car gets as clean as possible. Engineers have put systems into place to reduce the potential room for human error. If you drive yourself through the carwash, you may go too fast or even too slow. You have to earn leadership. You don't get out of college with a degree in leadership. College grads have a license to learn and experience what they need to eventually be leaders in their field.   There Are Two Types of Pride Unhealthy Pride - This is when you feel you don't need any help to get where you want to be in life. You're prideful and uncoachable. This is unhealthy and will ultimately keep you from your goals. Healthy PRIDE - Personal Responsibility in Daily Endeavours This is when you humble yourself and line up BEHIND someone else who can guide you towards your goals.   Don't Fall in Love With A Stock Make sure you don't attach any sentimental value to the stocks you own. This often happens when you've inherited a stock portfolio and you are hesitant to let it go because your loved one purchased it years ago. Sometimes we do this on our own without even inheriting the stocks. We will buy a stock, watch it grow and when it begins to stumble, we'll hesitate to make a logical decision to let that stock go. Don't fall in love with your stocks. Each one requires a different strategy and provides you with different expectations. The two major phases are:   Building and Growth In this phase, it's all about doing what you can to grow your retirement portfolio as best you can. That means most people are willing to take a little higher risk in order to see a potentially higher return. But you must still have caution in this phase or you risk going backward. Retirement Phase This isn't about sitting in a rocking chair and doing nothing, it's more about having the freedom to do as you choose. Most high-achievers have no desire to retire and this phase is really is about giving you the freedom to pursue different goals than the ones you had during the Building and Growth Phase.   The Three Ways The Stock Market Can Go Most people think stocks will either go up or go down. But, there's also the possibility for those stocks to go sideways. In fact there are been periods of several years where the stock market has gone sideways. It's important you understand Questions to Ask Yourself What steps have you taken to protect yourself from the next market crash? What steps are you taking to reduce your risk?
