Let's face it...one of our biggest obstacles to our success is our own minds. Do you ever feel like you are constantly having conversations with yourself (inside your head)?  I definitely do, and sometimes these thoughts and conversations  are pretty stressful.  But I've learned that the minute you realize that you are not your mind, then you become empowered to make some changes in your life.  You have to remember that you are NOT your mind. Your mind is simply a tool.  But, that tool (left unmanaged) can work against you as much as help you.   Research shows that most of us have up to 60,000 per day, and I can tell you from experience that most of those thoughts are unproductive and unmanaged.  That is the primary reason that I started to meditate.     Meditation is the #1 way I have learned to manage my thoughts and become more productive with my life.  Now full disclosure, I am definitely NOT an expert on meditation, but I would love to share some thoughts, tips and ideas with you that might help you to benefit from meditation like I have.   So, Why Should You and I Start Meditating? Meditation has been proven over time to create amazing to those that choose to practice it regularly.  It is not just an ambiguous or hyped up thing?   Here are just a few of the benefits you might receive from meditating: Less Stress & Anxiety Better Quality of Sleep Better Health & Vitality Increased Productivity Focused on Present Moment Increased Quality of Life   Bottom line...there are so many benefits that high highly recommend you start some form of meditation.   What the Difference between Meditation and Mindfulness? When I first started meditating, I did a ton of research.  I started to realize that there were many different styles, techniques and trainings for meditation.  However, one of the main distinctions I found was there was a difference between Mindfulness and Meditation, and they both serve a purpose.   Mindfulness is the practice of learning to focus on the present moment.  You can do this by focusing on your breath or a stationary object or simple noticing your 5 senses.  Mindfulness is also something that you can practice throughout your day, and will definitely help you to enjoy life more.   Meditation is the process of “letting go”.  It involves learning to take your mind and body into a different state of consciousness where your and mind and body can get super creative and productive in healing, relaxing or producing results in many areas of your life.  It can be described as a 4th state of consciousness that is not waking, sleeping or dreaming.     Just knowing the difference in these two things helped me to get started, and I hope you will take the time to research a bit on your own as well.   Here are some Tips, Strategies and Techniques that might Help You… Start with Just a Couple Minutes- It might sound simple but staying consistent is important so just start with a few minutes and increase it over time. Do it First Thing in the Morning- If you start your day with meditation you will set yourself up for success and will always get your meditation in each day. Don't Worry about How you Feel- You don't have to be in the mood to meditate.  Like working out, you are meditating for the benefits and not because you need it in the moment. Find a Quiet Place- When you start I think its important to find a quiet place and minimize distractions to set yourself up for success. Start by Breathing or Counting Breath- You can start meditating by simply closing your eyes and focusing on or counting your breaths.   Do a Body Scan- Another relaxing technique is to simply close your eyes and notice, relax and focus on one specific body part at a time.  Start at your toes and slowly work your way up your body till you get to the top of your head.  Notice the Senses- Your mind cannot normally focus on too many things at once, so when I have been stressed I will sometimes close my eyes and notice all 5 senses to distract my mind.  Try this one for sure. Don't Worry about Technique- Please don't worry too much about what Style, Technique or Practice you start.  This will keep you from Starting a Practice. Notice Distractions and Simply Refocus- When you become distracting with random thoughts (and you will), simply notice the thoughts and bring your attention back to focus…no worries. Follow Guided Meditation if Needed- Sometimes it helps to use a guided meditation or one with music and sounds of nature.   Take a Course- There are also a ton of free ebooks, courses, and mobile apps you can use for meditation.  Take the time to find resources that work for you. Make Upfront Commitment- Most importantly, I encourage you to make decision and a commitment UPFRONT to start and stay with a meditation practice.   Those are just a few ideas and lessons I've learned over the years, so I hope they help you.  Now let me give you a few of my favorite resources and people I feel you can look into for more information and help with meditation.   Resources for Meditation Success   Calm or Headspace Mobile Apps- these two mobile apps are the most popular and they both have free or lite versions.  They also have short 7 days introductory courses on how to meditate you can use to get started.   Wayne Dyer- I love Wayne's approach to meditation and he has tons of audios, books and stuff online I encourage you to research and use.   ZenHabits.net- this website blog is a very simple, practical source that I read from time to time on subjects of Meditation, Lifestyle and Simplifying my life.   Zivameditation.com- Emily Fletcher is an expert on Meditation and really simplifies that concept of Mindfulness, Meditation, and Manifestation.  I have benefited from your courses a bunch.   Transcendental Meditation- This is probably the most popular form of meditation and many experts, celebrities and people I know have benefited from this type of meditation.  It is a type of meditation that offers courses locally around the country and involves the use of a mantra that you repeat while meditating to stay focused on clearing your mind.  Check it out.   Anyway, that is my basic thoughts, ideas and tips for you with meditation.  Overall, I feel like you can really talk your Daily Rituals and Your Life to a whole new level if you start a DAILY practice of meditation, and its my hope that you will Try this or expand your current knowledge of meditation to increase your Quality of Life.   Until tomorrow, thanks for reading and have an amazing day.   George Wright III

Where Healing Happens

In this impromptu episode I journal out loud. I saw a therapist for our first session a couple weeks ago and I was given some homework to do, instead of writing about it I thought talking about it out loud would be helpful for myself but also maybe for someone else listening. So, I share with you some of the thoughts I have surrounding feeling responsible and like the caretaker of certain people in my life like; my sister, my aunt and how that affects my relationships with them. I talk about how my feeling responsible for others leads me to lean on my husband and my feelings about that and him. I also share how I need to caretake myself. What I have recently done for myself and what I need to do in the future.

One of the foundational books of my adult life is “Amusing Ourselves to Death” by Neil Postman. It helped me see the ways in which the modern world was driven by entertainment more than information, as we transitioned from an word-based society to an image-based society with the advent of television. The modern equivalent to Postman’s book, in my opinion, is Nicholas Carr’s “The Shallows.” Written in the late 2000’s, before the smart phone was ubiquitous, Carr interprets the impact of the computer and the internet the same way Postman did television.A new 10th anniversary edition of The Shallows was released this year, with a new afterword, in which Carr argues that he believe his book is more relevant now than it was when it came out.“One of the greatest dangers we face as we automate the work of our minds, as we cede control over the flow of our thoughts and memories to a powerful electronic system,” Carr writes, is “a slow erosion of our humanness and our humanity.”Video of the panel in 2015 with myself, Nick, Nicco Mele and Brad Jenkins is here, and my notes on that panel are here.Outro music: "Feel You" by My Morning Jacket Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/thelonggame. One Woke Mama - The Journey of Awakening Through Motherhood

As a mama, I've been on a quite a journey, over the last 5+ years, in learning how to emotionally hold space for my daughter, and now my son. I'm not going to pretend that I've nailed this. It's still a huge work in progress. My daughter is the child that challenges me the most. I frequently feel triggered by her emotional outburst, her reactions, her big feelings. She takes my nervous system to the edge and I'm often left feeling dysregulated and quite shaken. She requires a recipe - that I've yet to perfect. However, in my exploration of how to both honour her feelings, support her to feel those feelings yet inspire her to be brave, self-motivated, able to process the experience and grow from them, I've come to learn a few basic tools in how to emotionally hold space for her. The irony, in all of this learning, has been that most of what I'm learning to do with and for Soleil and Rafael, I've been teaching to my clients and learning for myself. The core of this is - how do we emotionally hold space for ourselves when we are feeling a lot. When there is rage bubbling up. Or shame, guilt, frustration. Or even apathy, boredom, exhaustion.  I want to share with you what I not only do for my children (as much as possible, yet I do frequently get somewhat derailed and have to get back on track), I also apply these tools to my clients, and most importantly myself. So whether you are a mama or not, everything I'm about to share - these simply, reflective tools - can be powerfully harnessed to support you to emotionally "HOLD" others, your clients, yourself. 1.Begin with awareness. Tune into the mind and body connection. Check in with your body. Notice sensations and feelings. Anchor into your body. Breathe. Big deep breaths. SIGH. Exhale with relief. YAWN. Slow the breath down. Make it rhythmical. Then come inward. Before you even go into any cognitive awareness, just  tune in to the sensations and feelings coming up and try and describe the sensation and where it's felt. E.g I feel unsettled in my tummy. My heart is pounding. My body feels jittery. My head is achey. 2. Name what you feel, name what you notice. This leads to the ability to ultimately process and release these feelings. Can you name those sensations as feelings? Can you label them? Understand what's underneath them? What do you FEEL. What's the emotion? Now you are going to sportscast those sensations into FEELINGS. Acknowledge without judgment. This Qs below can be applied for children AND for yourself. This is a powerful and simple practice where you allow the feelings to exist. You are aware of them without moving, yet, to change them. What do you FEEL? You’re really angry right now I can see how angry you feel right now You really didn’t like it when.... You feel hurt about..... and you really wanted.... I'm noticing how flat and switched off you feel... I wonder if you are feeling scared? I can sense that you feel frustrated/annoyed... You are making it safe (for yourself and others) to feel SAFE in ALL of the feelings present. 3. Seek help, take action - through practices to change what you're feeling. To move to the other side of what you are processing. Ask yourself or your child; what do you need right now? What would help you to feel different/better? Is there something your body is asking to do? What about your breathing? How can we breathe differently right now? Do you need to stay inside, go outside? We have many of these for free inside the Daily Mastermind Mobile app you can use. Resources for Meditation Success   The Daily Mastermind Mobile App- the mobile app has many different FREE meditations that you can use on the go.  There are tabs for guided, unguided, affirmations, sounds of nature and 10 min or 30 minute sessions.   Calm or Headspace Mobile Apps- these two mobile apps are the most popular and they both have free or lite versions.

IT 047 Podcast Information: Listen in iTunes HereListen Here Without iTunesSign up for my Facebook group for Intuitive Coaches here Transcript available belowToday, I’m going to share with you why trying to keep up a perfect image online doesn’t actually keep you from being judged harshly. I know, I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but I’m SO tired of seeing otherwise, smart, brilliant and radiant women keeping themselves prisoners because they want to look perfect and like they have their shit together, when they’re not fooling anyone. This need to look perfect and to present a perfect image online is poison to our coaching industry. No one - myself included - wants to be subject to looks of horror, evil laughter, or even worse, pity (who does she think she is?).But here’s the thing. If you post happy, love-yourself quotes all day every day, and in reality, you hate everything about yourself - people can feel it. And they will judge you. And probably not trust you to be their coach. You are so much smarter and braver than that, and I know that you can be loved and honored for being the most real version of yourself - not for being a watered down, boring version of ourselves (that’s not fooling anyone). Here’s the way out.First, you have got to call out your inner judger - you know, the one who wants you to be little miss perfect, or boring, broke coach. Give her a name. Frantic Franny? Mean Girl Mandy? Then, let your inner judge-y mean girl take the reigns, and let her tell you what she REALLY feels. Write it allll down. After that’s out of the way, identify whose voice that is - is it a parent’s voice? A mean girl from 5th grade’s voice? Maybe your own voice from an earlier age? Next, write down your truth. For every judgement that your inner mean girl said, write down what you actually know about yourself to be true. For example, maybe she told you that you don’t know what you’re talking about and that you’re a major fraud. But deep down, your truth is that you know you have such an incredible gift to share with the world, and that you’re a strong, capable and brave woman who knows what she’s talking about.Lastly, show up and take action that makes Mean Girl Mandy come out to play! Start your business Instagram, get your website together, show UP. She will come out, and when she does, go back to your List of TRUTHS and stubbornly shut her down. She’ll lose her power over you in time.As you do this, people will start to FEEL YOU - who you really are. And you’ll start to attract clients who deeply resonate with you and love you for your imperfections. After you do this exercise, I’d love to hear the name of your inner saboteur. Share it with me below or in my FB Group Intuitive Coaches here. I hope that this has served you and I’ll see you next time on the next episode of Intuitive Tuesday!
