Welcome to the Triple P Life Podcast! In this episode, Dr. Jay LaGuardia welcomes Amberly Lago, the author of the USA Today bestselling books "True Grit and Grace" and "Joy through the Journey," to discuss her incredible journey of overcoming adversity and finding resilience. Amberly shares her story of being hit by an SUV while riding her motorcycle, which left her with a shattered leg and a severed femoral artery. Despite facing a 1% chance of saving her leg and enduring 34 surgeries, Amberly refused to give up and fought to keep her leg and rebuild her life. Main Takeaways: Pain can be a powerful teacher, and there are ways to thrive and find joy despite experiencing physical, emotional, or financial pain. Grit without connection leads to resistance, while grit with connection allows for true resilience. Vulnerability can be a superpower, enabling deeper connections and support from others. Mindset is crucial in overcoming adversity, and it's essential to consciously choose positivity and gratitude. Surrounding yourself with positive, like-minded individuals can significantly impact your success and well-being. Gratitude is a powerful tool for shifting your perspective and finding joy in challenging circumstances. Resilience is not about bouncing back to who you were before, but about adapting and growing through adversity. Pursuing your purpose and passions can give you the strength to overcome even the toughest obstacles. It's crucial to invest in yourself and attend events that fill your cup and connect you with inspiring individuals. Never give up on your dreams, even if it takes time and perseverance to achieve them. Amberly's story is a testament to the power of resilience, faith, and the importance of connection in overcoming life's greatest challenges. Her journey from being bedridden and facing amputation to becoming a bestselling author and inspirational speaker is truly remarkable. First and foremost a Green Howard (a Northern regiment), as a member of the British Expeditionary Force he saw the sharp end of Hitler's May 1940 Blitzkrieg and was evacuated exhausted from Dunkirk. His next move was to North Africa, courtesy of the Queen Mary, to be part of Monty's 8th Army.  After eventual victory in Tunisia, the Sicily invasion followed. Alongside a number of other battle-hardened units, the Green Howards were then ordered back to England to form the vanguard of the Normandy Invasion. In the fierce fighting that followed the D-Day landing on GOLD Beach, he was wounded and evacuated. His comrade Sergeant Major Stan Hollis, won the only VC to be awarded on 6 June 1944. Once fit, Bill returned to the war zone and he finished the war with the East Lancs as a Regimental Policeman in devastated occupied Germany. For all this he earned seven medals and a wounded-in-action stripe. Bill experienced many adventures during those action-packed years. Unlike too many, he survived to share these with the reader. Who do you become when you believe that every family physically, psychologically, emotionally and sexually abuses their children? Who do you become when you're a 4, 5 and 6-year-old being threatened with murder if you're gay? Who do you become when you grow up in a white, US neighborhood, your ancestral roots are Amazonian and Euro-Latin American, but you're told that has nothing to do with who you are? Rai Maestro survived too many suicide attempts to count. He now shares his story of family tragedy in the hopes that others seek the help that may keep them alive. This interview has a trigger warning, due to graphic depictions of child abuse. Rai's story and perspectives are profound and important. They show the indomitable survival capacity of one human being, in partnership with God and competent mental health professionals. Bio Profession: I have been a bilingual event host, presenter, and MC, for over 20 years in the tri-state area. I perform at galas, award shows, fashion shows, beauty pageants, expos, conferences, etc. Abuse History: My parents abused me from a young baby to a teenager. They were in the closet, and my mother was an extreme homophobe. She hated my father and brother for being gay, and she made sure I would not become gay. I was an unwanted child, and my family hated me for being born. I was supposed to be an abortion, and they always wanted a girl. I lived in a violent home full of witchcraft where my parents had mental problems and were institutionalized. My father was an alcoholic and my mother enjoyed torturing me daily. I could never tell anyone anything because they brainwashed me into believing all families were the same. My mother threatened me daily, and they tried to kill me many times growing up. I also committed suicide many times as a child and as an adult. Recovery: I started therapy on and off in 2007, and in 2017, after a few suicides, I went into intense therapy. I have fully recovered since 2019 and I engage in public speaking seminars and conferences. My purpose is to help others and raise abuse awareness and prevention. I started going public in 2020 but was delayed because of covid. I wrote two books (not yet published). 1st book — Fighting Through the Darkness. 2nd book — OMG, My Mother Is a Witch. My book series — Let's Survive Together — will be a series of 12 books revolving around my life to help others recover. Guest Info. https://letssurvivetogether.com Julie's Info. And as much as I love The Membership Guys podcast…  I can't break this rule.  So I'm taking the day off…. And that can mean only one thing...  CALLIE IS TAKING OVER! (And I get to eat cake) Join the other (some would say better) half of The Membership Guys for a very special episode, as Callie shares her top takeaways from season 4 of her podcast, Behind the Membership, and reveals the release date for season 5.   Listen to hear about:  The changes membership owners have made to better serve their audiences during the global pandemic. Caryn Liles explains how Covid 19 resulted in her transitioning her well established brick and mortar dog training business to an online membership model, which is now allowing her to provide more in-depth support than before. Katie Wardrobe talks about how she reduced the price of her membership and offered more free content to help teachers adapt to working online, which has increased the growth of her business.  How Carole Copeland Thomas's membership has become more important than ever due to the growing racial tensions across the U.S.  Why a one size fits all approach doesn't work when it comes to memberships. Pamela Mitchell explains how she created a model to suit her needs and Felicia Lo shares the benefits and challenges of running an online membership alongside a well established international yarn business. Steve Pavlina also talks about how he offers a high ticket annual membership that only launches for five days a year.  How season 4 reinforced the message that memberships give owners the freedom and flexibility to live life on their own terms. Whether it's accommodating health issues like in the case of Marisha Mets, building a location independent business enabling family travel like in the case of Trish Blackwell... Or using your membership to reach big goals and eventually give back to underprivileged communities like John Michaloudis.  How running memberships can lead to positive change. Warwick Brown explains how leaving his corporate role and launching his membership has led to a happier, more energized life and Warren Mcpherson shares how he reduced his income streams and took ownership of his time so he can spend more of it with his young family.     Links and Mentions:  https://www.themembershipguys.com/behind-the-membership/ (Behind The Membership podcast ) https://www.themembershipguys.com/caryn-liles/ (Launching Quickly in a Global Crisis with Caryn Liles) https://www.themembershipguys.com/katie-wardrobe/ (Double your member base during a pandemic with Katie Wardrobe)  https://www.themembershipguys.com/carole-copeland-thomas/ (Facilitating Change Through Difficult Conversations with Carole Copeland Thomas) https://www.themembershipguys.com/pamela-mitchell/ (Creating a High Level Coaching Membership with Coach Pamela Mitchell) https://www.themembershipguys.com/felicia-lo/ (Adding a Membership to a Successful Manufacturing Business with Felicia Lo) https://www.themembershipguys.com/steve-pavlina/ (Aligning Your Members to Your Vision with Steve Pavlina) https://www.themembershipguys.com/marisha-mets/ (Creating a Custom Web App for Your Members with Marisha Mets) https://www.themembershipguys.com/trish-blackwell/ (Fighting Through a Crisis of Confidence with Trish Blackwell) https://www.themembershipguys.com/warwick-brown/ (Staying Consistent as a One-Man Band with Warwick Brown) https://www.themembershipguys.com/john-michaloudis/ (Setting Ambitious Goals for Your Membership with John Michaloudis) https://www.themembershipguys.com/warren-mcpherson/ (More Time, More Freedom, More Income with Warren Mcpherson) Key Quotes:  “Memberships are game changers at the best of times, but in 2020 they proved that even more.” “Everything is possible with a...

Fighting Through the Politics of Coronavirus. Prince Harry & Meghan move to Los Angeles, ask America to foot their $25 Million security bill. President Trump rightly declines. No trust for the virus numbers out of China, or anywhere else for that matter. Nevertheless, irresponsible media busily hyping the increasing number of cases in America, providing no global context for test levels. America double-penalized for its integrity and ingenuity. World Health Organization drops the ball. Meanwhile, some excerpts from Trump's master class press conferences. Totally on top of every detail of the crisis, a daily example of strong, competent American leadership. By contrast, Governor Cuomo of New York seems determined to export hot zone New Yorkers all across the country. Cuomo threatens to sue the Democrat Governor of Rhode Island, and says any federal quarantine of New York City would be an "act of war." Cuomo fails to address concerns for the vulnerable elderly in Florida. Callous disregard? Plus, the New York Times turns against Dr. Deborah Birx, dropping "science" like a hot potato. A review of the acid-pouring MSM, a definite liability in times like these. Against The Wind. With Listener Calls & Music via Bob Seger, Chris Rea and Astrid.

In this episode we’re going to be discussing Bill Cheall. Bill joined the Green Howard's in 1939, a regiment in the British army, and fought throughout the whole war. He was evacuated through Dunkirk, fought in the Desert, took part in the invasion of Sicily and in 1944 landed on Gold beach on D-Day… Bill wrote his memoirs which have been edited by his son Paul and publish as “Fighting Through from Dunkirk to  Hamburg: A Green Howard’s Wartime Memoir”. [asa2 tplid="14" align="center" associate_id_set="WW2"]B00BM4SLO0[/asa2] For more information and pictures of Bill Cheall you can visit fightingthrough.co.uk and you can find Paul's podcast at fightingthroughpodcast.co.uk. The Green Howard's are of particular interest to me as they are my local regiment. I have two grandfathers who service in WW1 with them, and a great uncle who served in WW2. Uncle Jack. reputedly, like Bill was plucked from the beaches of Dunkirk, though he was later shipped to India and saw fighting in Burma.

7 Steps to Help You Fight Through a Market Correction

You don't like to lose money. Nobody does. That's one reason it is so hard to stick to a long-term investment plan when we feel like we're getting punched in the face by the markets. Just like a boxer, it's natural to want step back and protect ourselves. This natural reaction, however, has caused most investors to underperform the very assets they invest in.  In this episode, I discuss 7 steps to help you fight through a normal market correction. Invest Wisely: 7 Steps to Fighting Through a Market Correction A 2014 Dalbar Study  once again showed that average investors drastically underperform the very assets they invest in. Over the last 10 years the average investors, investing in a mix of stocks and bonds, had an average annual return of 2.6%. Over that same period, the S&P 500 had an average return of 7.4% and fixed income averaged 4.6%. One of the biggest contributors to this is our natural reaction to run from pain.  It's a strong instinct that I struggle with during every market downturn. In this episode, I introduce 7 steps you can take to help fight through a market correction so you can invest wisely for retirement. STOP listening to financial media and market "experts." They only magnify your fear Learn the nature of the markets you invest in. Develop a clear understanding of how they work Determine your appetite and need for market risk. How much volatility can you stomach? How much market risk do you need to achieve your goals? Set a portfolio allocation that fits your needs. Rebalance it religiously to manage your risk and potential return goals Maintain enough cash reserves. This will help your long-term assets be focused on long-term objectives Revisit steps 1 thru 7 religiously to adjust as your life unfold. Not sure how?  Find someone to help. Investing wisely is easy to understand.  The hard part is sticking to a well thought out plan when you get punched in the face by a market correction.   Plan Well: Budgets That Work With Jim Munchbach Recently I had the pleasure of talking with Jim Munchbach from imakeyourmoneycount.com about how to find a budget that works for you. Jim is a Certified Financial Planner, State Farm agent and instructor of Introduction to Personal Finance at the University of Houston. Here are some of the topics we cover: Why it's important to track your spending Finding the truth about your financial behavior A budget that works, if you hate to budget How a budget helps you create free cash flow in order to save The value in learning to track your spending It's not the tool that is important, its the goal How to manager your cash flow like a business The law of spending and saving Retirement Toolbox:  Retirement Planning Worksheet This worksheet may help you determine if your current retirement savings effort is on course or if you need to chart a new direction to help reach the retirement destination that you desire. To help you, I’ve added a new worksheet to the Retirement Toolbox titled Retirement Planning Worksheet.
