Episode 120 - Teotihuacan Late Pre-classic Period and Shadow of Xitle , Architects of the West Kingdom, Red 7, The Mind On this episode Steve, Conor and Mike bring new meaning to the word 'chaos'. Once the dust settles, the lads discuss board gaming statistics - do they keep gaming stats? Why? How do you use/refer to them? Which of our hosts is anti-stats? In the Sizzling Games segment Steve has explored the expansions to Teotihuacan, Late Pre-classic Period and Shadow of Xitle, and he gives us a rundown on how they significantly improve the game. Conor dived deeper into Architects of the West Kingdom with the Age of Artisans expansion. Meanwhile Mike has been playing the ever-changing Red 7, and also the mind-melding The Mind. In the Bracket Battle 2.0 we tally up the scores and find out if Too Many Bones or Dwellings of Eldervale took the chocolates. Then, we set-up the next battle: Ganz Schon Clever vs Raiders of the North Sea. Make sure you head to our socials and cast your vote to make sure your favourite goes through to the next round. Finally in Swear An Oath, Mike has Stone Age still on the shelf and Marvel Champions ready to go, Conor played Raiders of Scythia but hasn't got around to Galaxy's Most Wanted just yet, and Steve played Circadian's First Light and also achieved a new personal best in Hadrian's Wall. New oaths sworn include Scape Goat (Mike), Cloud Age (Conor), The West Kingdom Tomesaga (Steve) and Galaxy's Most Wanted (Steve). This episode is choc-full of gaming goodness as Steve, Jules, Conor and Def discuss all things miniatures; what defines a miniature game, what is the appeal, what are some good gateway games to start with, and why bother painting them? Of course, there are always sizzling games to talk about, and everyone seems to have their eye on Kickstarter. Finally, in Swear an Oath, Steve delivers a double-header by conquering both Teotihuacan and Underwater Cities, Conor pleased the Oath Gods and the Dice Gods by finally playing Dice Forge, however pride cometh before a fall for Def the Cartographer. Also, Jules doubles down on his missed Photosynthesis oath by adding Quoridor. Not to be outdone, Steve and Conor back-up their success with Minecraft: Builders and Biomes, and Tapestry respectively. In the grand tradition of the (relatively new) cinematic universe, this week we're looking at our favorite board game universes. Join Chris and Anthony as they delve into several different universes that have expanded with shared rules, components, and characters. We start by asking the listeners about some of their favorites, then dive into Acquisition Disorders. Anthony talks about Rurik: Dawn of Kiev, currently on Kickstarter, and Chris looks at the newest from Next Move Games (Plan B): Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra. At the table this week, Anthony reviews the Kennerspiel nominated Ganz Schon Clever (which you can play online here), and Kingdomino: Age of Giants, the first expansion for the popular Blue Orange game. Chris looks at Sorcerer & Stones, from Emperor S4, distributed by Deep Water Games. Finally, we delve into the best of the board game universes. Welcome to Episode 21 of All The Bits, wherein Shaun and Michelle move from casual to hardcore like a leprechaun dancing across a rainbow! They Drive By titles such as SdJ nominee Ganz Schon Clever, Joraku, Citrus, Cat Lady, Transatlantic and Terraforming Mars. This episode's BGG Thread Spotlight is an interesting one on "How Do You Pick Games to Play?". Shaun sends a curveball (yah baseball!) Michelle's way as he picks a RPG for the All The Bits bit. Shaun continues to "cheat" as he talks about Origins in the Next Up Bit, while Michelle predictibly goes the route of some dry Euros (Altiplano, Riverboat). In addition to all this, the Hot Topic bit makes its return as the recent Spiel des Jarias nominees are discussed in details.
