It's an underlying skill that we really have to harness in all of our college, university, and high school programs. It's fundamental. We seem to teach people how to problem solve, but this is table stakes. In order to ever get AI right, we've got to solve the data challenges.”“There's no question on whether business value and how to measure AI's return on investment (ROI) is always top of mind in my discussions with executives. But what they really want to know is if their existing ROI methods are sufficient or not. What are the new metrics that they need to put in place to validate AI and its sustainability?”“We're not at the high-growth stage of AI innovation. We're in the early experimentation stage. We don't have international guardrails. All of these systems are going to take around 20-years to put in place. It takes six years to put a new university curriculum in place. People have to take responsibility to learn. This is a fundamental shift and it's one that's happening at break lightning speed.”Mentions:Mood InsightsGallup Research: 1 in 5 Employees Feel Lonely Worldwide KFF Loneliness and Support Networks Survey United States Artificial Intelligence Institute Dr. Cindy Gordon's AI Insights NewsletterHispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement and SalesChoice Whitepaper: Why Diversity Equity and Inclusion Leaders Must Lead in AIBio: Dr. Cindy Gordon ICD.D. is the CEO of SalesChoice, a SaaS AI company focused on Ending Growth Uncertainty for Human Advantage, and has been recognized by Onalytica as one of the top AI global influencers. That might just be the kind of thing that the main character of Sarah Everett's book, "The Probability of Everything," would try to figure out. It's the story of a girl obsessed with odds, and the chances of things occurring, including the end of the world. As it turns out, the book DID win that prestigious award in 2023. Nightmare Island Twelve year-old Serenity Noah has never told anyone about her recurring nightmares -- the haunting images of silver butterflies whose flapping wings drive away all sound, leaving only suffocating silence in their wake. Her parents already favor her "perfect" younger brother, Peace, and she doesn't want to be seen as the "problem" child. Instead, Serenity's found a productive way to channel her fears: creating a horror movie as scary as her nightmares. When Peace suddenly becomes afraid of the dark and refuses to sleep alone, their parents take him away for "treatment" on Duppy Island. Serenity has a very bad feeling about the mysterious island and the facility's creepy leader, Dr. Whisper. And when she sees a silver butterfly from her nightmares in the forbidden forest she realizes that something is seriously, dangerously awry. But nothing could've prepared Serenity for the truth: the island is home to douens -- faceless children with backward feet who are trapped in limbo between the world of the living and the land of the dead. And unless Serenity acts soon, her brother is going to join their ranks... Shakirah Bourne is a Bajan author and filmmaker. She once shot a movie scene in a cave with bats during an earthquake, but is too scared to watch horror movies. She is a recipient of the Governor General Award for Excellence in Literary Fiction for her short fiction collection, IN TIME OF NEED. Her first children's book, JOSEPHINE AGAINST THE SEA, received starred reviews in Kirkus and Booklist, was a SLJ Best Book of 2021, A Black Caucus of the ALA Best Book of 2021 and an Ignyte Award Finalist for Best Middle Grade Novel. She was also the co-editor of YA non-fiction anthology, ALLIES: Real Talk About Growing Up, Screwing Up and Trying Again (DK/PRH, 2021), which was a World Book Day Selection in the UK. Her upcoming middle grade horror, NIGHTMARE ISLAND, a tale based on Caribbean folklore, will be published by Scholastic in June 2023.

Boston-born, Canadian-based, actor, writer and comic, Bernard Robichaud, known to fans worldwide as Cyrus, the gun toting, drug dealing nemesis from the hit television series Trailer Park Boys, started his life in the spotlight as a sought after model. That is, until the day he crossed paths with a Toronto talent agent, who insisted he missed his calling and should try his hand at acting. With that advice in mind, Bernard enrolled in the Theatre Arts program at Dalhousie University and later honed his skills under the private tutelage of esteemed vocal coach Dorothy Ward, and later under the wings of award winning director Tom Kerr at the prestigious Neptune Theatre. Believe it or not, this athletic man who grew up playing hockey and basketball and today is an avid golfer was hired to voice the characters of both Robert and Becky in the CBC radio drama In Becky’s Name. Governor General Award winning playwright and author, Kent Stetson, took the liberty of contacting ACTRA on Bernard’s behalf, stating that anyone who could play a man and women on radio in their first performance deserved to be given their professional status…and he was, and he hasn’t looked back. His uncanny talent of being able to transform himself into a rough and tumble lowlife to a ruggedly handsome good guy has garnered Bernard a variety of most interesting roles over his career including performing alongside such Hollywood icons as James Caan and Kathy Bates. Most recently he was seen in Sea Change on Lifetime movies, based on New York Times best selling author Aimee Friedman, which everyone hopes will go to camera in the near future as a series. He also starred in Blue Seduction co-starring Billy Zane and Estella Warren, and American Sunset, co-staring with his friend, the late Corey Haim. Bernard also had a recurring role as Kirk in the hit Showcase TV series, Haven. Bernard was very unexpectedly diagnosed on Oct 6, 2017 with Prostate Cancer after a routine visit to the doctor. He is now cancer-free and is an advocate for the fight against cancer.  In today’s episode, we discuss: Growing up playing hockey and basketball Why he doesn't watch any of his movies or TV shows Battling prostrate cancer and what advice he has for others His acting career Website: BernardRobichaud.com Twitter: @BernieRobichaud Facebook: Facebook.com/bernardrobichaud Tumblr: BernardRobichaud.Tumblr.com Prostrate Cancer: Click here for a Fact Sheet Twitter for Prostrate Cancer Canada Center: @ProstateCancerC Past "Success is a Choice" podcast episodes of interest . . . Bio: Jordan Tannahill is a multi/inter-disciplinary artist working in text, image, performance, video, film, theatre and increasingly dance. He was cofounder of Toronto's integral Videofag-- a storefront performance, gallery and alternative art space-- and his book, Theatre of the Unimpressed: In Search of Vital Drama, explores boredom and liveness in contemporary theatre and performance in Canada. He is the recipient of a Governor General Award and several Doras. Jordan's VR performance Draw Me Close recently showed at the Venice Biennale, and a book on Videofag edited by William Ellis and Jordan was just released by BookThug; his new play Declarations will premiere on Canadian stage January 2018, to be followed later in the year by the release of his debut novel Liminal. Recording Notes: This interview was recorded at 187 Augusta, in Kensington Market-- the former location of Videofag-- shortly before the shuttering of this erstwhile Toronto institution, and Jordan's leaving Toronto's tight-fit community for new challenges. William Ellis can be heard in the recording assiduously applying himself to the everyday performance of his very singular being. Jordan suggested PC listeners might prefer his interview at half speed.
