This week, we are locked in with poker player, advocate and globetrotter Maureen Bloechlinger. The conversation kicks off with a catch-up of Maureen's year so far as she hunts Hendon Mob flags all over the globe. This segues nicely to a chat about her Facebook groups and the role of such groups in the game. Dara tells us about his new course ‘Poker Study Simplified' as he and Barry take players through their paces as they try to get to grips with ranges, solvers, GTO, exploits and ICM. David's recent article about late registration is discussed in depth, as is the trend towards crypto-poker sites and the potential implications for ambassadors/affiliates representing those sites.
This week (ok not really this week), we are locked in and sounding out Niall Farrell ahead of his much anticipated BBC documentary ‘The Four Rules Of The Poker Kings' directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Greg Clark! The film was pushed back from its original April release date, as was this episode, hence a few anachronistic references to the Irish Open! In what is nonetheless a belter of an episode, the lads preview the documentary with exclusive clips from Niall's poker adventures in 2021/2022. Before they all get to that though, there is some talk about the Irish Open Leaderboard (AKA the Firaldo Cup) which was coincidentally won by our host David Lappin and another Niall Farrell idea ~ a Hendon Mob flag inspired ‘Amazing Race'. The conversation then moves onto the documentary and how it captures both sides of the poker life. Niall on the felt wins are shown alongside his losses and, maybe most importantly, against the backdrop of family life. There is also footage from the life of fellow Scottish poker pro David Docherty as he navigates his way in the game. The film ‘The Four Rules Of The Poker Kings' airs on BBC Scotland at 9pm on August 16th. It will also be available to watch on the iPlayer.
In the 835th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway is joined by poker pros Shaun Deeb and Josh Arieh, who fill in as special co-hosts at Level 9 in Las Vegas where the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is happening now! Hear about how Fortnite helped them form Team Lucky alongside Matt Glantz and reigning WSOP Main Event champ Daniel Weinman, Arieh's Poker Stake venture, and their thoughts on the Poker Hall of Fame, including Scott Seiver's chances of getting in after he recently won his fifth gold bracelet. They also weigh in on two hot topics from this week in poker -- whether or not phones, spurred by solver software debates, and excessive masking should be allowed at poker tables. Speaking of gold, Malcolm Trayner captured his first WSOP bracelet in Event #5: $1,000 Mystery Millions for $1,000,000, while two other players scored million-dollar bounties. Unfortunately, their reactions were a bit subdued, much to the dismay of many in the poker community. That said, two other players had boisterous celebrations when they pulled six-figure bounties. See them all in the latest episode, as well as a winner interview from Trayner. Finally, learn about other bracelet winners such as David Prociak and Simeon Spasov, get an update on the $25K Fantasy league, and see Jack Binion walk the halls of the Horseshoe and reminisce about 55 years of the WSOP!

Fresh off the heels of her 2021 GPI Player of the Year award, Nadya Magnus gives Kara a glimpse into the sacrifice and dedication it took for her to achieve this prestigious title. Magnus, whose first Hendon Mob cash dates back to 2008, has been steadily grinding the tournament circuit for well over a decade en route to the top of the GPI index. Her consistency paid off last year with her taking home $426,161 of her $1,287,596 total career earnings. But there's more to the story. Magnus was in position to earn the GPI title in 2020, when on December 3rd, it was announced the 2020 title would be canceled due to the pandemic's effect on travel and live events. She goes on to detail the emotional and physical toll it took to replicate her results two years in a row, especially while falling victim to the bad side of variance in the final two months of the year. Kara and Nadya then dive deeper and discuss her unwillingness to compromise her beliefs, her upbringing in the Soviet Union and what it means to see more women at the poker table. This includes her recent philanthropic efforts where she gifted three $5,000 buy-ins to women poker players at the Wynn Winter Classic. Don't forget to check out our previous episodes with Ebony Kenney, Phil Galfond, Mori Eskandani, Jason Koon, Dominik Nitsche, Vanessa Selbst, Maria Ho and many more of poker's most fascinating personalities.
