Send us a textWhat if the voices in your head, your doubts, your drive, your deepest wounds, weren't just background noise, but characters in a play that you could rewrite? In this episode of The Self Help Antidote, we dive into the transformative world of Anonymous Drama, a creative approach to emotional wellbeing that blends improv, wellbeing, psychology, and storytelling. Playwright, director and drama therapy advocate Mark Macnicol shares how creating scripts and characters, even if you have zero interest in “drama”, can help untangle emotional knots that feel too overwhelming to confront directly. We explore how this approach, born in places like maximum-security prisons and inspired by the therapeutic roots of improv, can help you step outside your own story just enough to see it clearly. Learn how the three core characters, the Protagonist, the Inner Critic, and the Inner Mentor mirror the ongoing dialogue in your own mind, and how naming these voices creates the space for intention, self-compassion, and conscious choice. This isn't about becoming someone else. It's about finally hearing yourself.Because once you recognize who's talking in your head, you get to decide who's actually in charge.Visit us at:www.theselfhelpantidote.com

"I was feeling this self censoring and constant push pull in sharing my voice and just feeling quite afraid of going for things that I wanted and so I got really interested in that gap and started to work with people with those clients around the inner critic. And my first guess was like, oh, we're going to dig into their childhoods and find who was the critical source in their lives that created this voice. And very quickly, I found out that was not going to be my answer because I would hear the exact same adult inner critic in these women. And some were like, my parents were so supportive. And some were like, my parents ignored me, my parents cheered me on, my parents were so critical. And yet this sort of adult, more professionally oriented, more adult selfhood oriented inner critics sounded the same despite this wide range of early experiences. So then I had to look a little more culturally and also biologically. And what became clear was that that inner critic voice really spoke up when something took us out of our comfort zone, or when we were contemplating something out of our comfort zone. And to place that in a context of gender, for women, what is unsafe and what we very deeply learn is unsafe is visibility, power, too much success, shining bright, standing out from the crowd in some way, all of that." So Says Tara Mohr, a coach, educator and the author of Playing Big: Practical Wisdom for Women Who Want to Speak Up, Create, and Lead, which is celebrating its 10th birthday this fall. I first met Tara a decade ago and was so taken with her and her insights that we did four stories together—stories that were deeply resonant with women everywhere. These stories were about understanding—and releasing—your inner critic, locating your inner mentor, examining the ways in which you keep yourself in the shadows and why, and the most potent one of them all: why women are so quick to criticize other women. We cover this same ground 10 years on—and it's just as powerful as it was then. I loved reconnecting with Tara and can't wait to do more with her over the coming decades, specifically revisioning what it might look like if more women led—but not in a model defined by men, in a way that might be uniquely their own. Okay, let's get to our conversation. "You might think you're deliberating with yourself and making choices. However, once you understand Addictive Voice Recognition, you realize that the Lizard brain or 'Addictive voice' or wine witch is not you."In this episode, Lucy discusses the concept of the Wine Witch and how tuning into our inner mentor can help us overcome cravings and grow as individuals. The brain is divided into two parts: the primitive reptilian brain (Lizard brain) and the more evolved primate/human brain (frontal cortex). The Lizard brain initiates cravings for alcohol, tricking us into believing it is essential for survival. The inner voice that compels us to drink is not our true self but the Lizard brain trying to meet its survival needs. Lucy shares a personal experience of the internal struggle between the rational decision to quit drinking and the Lizard brain's urge to drink. By understanding Addictive Voice Recognition, we can detach from the Lizard brain's deceitful nature and consciously choose not to listen to it. Lucy also suggests putting our inner critic in the same category as the addictive voice or wine witch, as both are driven by fear. To combat the wine witch, Lucy introduces the concept of the inner mentor, the version of ourselves we aspire to become. Tuning into this grounded, self-assured self can help us resist the wine witch's cravings. Lucy also shares a powerful visualization practice to help you tune in to this part of yourself. Hello So Deep Peeps!  Welcome to That's So Deep.  This is the podcast where we try to root out loneliness one conversation at a time. Today we are talking about Finding Your Inner Mentor (Based on the work from Playing Big by Tara Mohr). Some deep things we cover:The Inner Critic is not the only voice inside of you.  There is a wiser and gentler voice and that is the voice of the Inner Mentor. The Role of Imagination in Empowerment: You CAN become what you haven't seen in the outside world.  You just need to see it in your inside world.Outer Mentors and Inner Mentors: Society has no problem telling women that their own voices are not enough.  We have been trained to seek outside sources for the answers when the truest, most perfect answers are within each of us.  Take-aways:Carve out 30-45 minutes to visualize your Inner Mentor.  Choose one of the meditations in the resources below.  Find a quiet space, take a deep breath and begin.  If you find your mind wandering or if you fall asleep, that's okay, you're just tired.  Try again another day.  You can prep yourself by taking a warm bath.  Pour yourself a mug of warm tea.  Do what you need to help you relax.  Things to keep in mind from Playing Big:Explore and pay attention to symbols that come up.Don't take the vision too literally.  If the vision shows that you are pregnant, it may not mean literally.  It may just mean opportunity or abundance lie ahead.Keep your inner mentor to yourself…at least for a while...it is precious and yours.Post visualization journaling questions from Playing Big:Write about any images, feelings & words that came to mind as you visualized. What was her true name?  Look up the origin, root & meaning. What was her presence like? What did she look like? What was her home like? What was her parting gift to you?  Take some time to journal and answer these questions.  Now that you know what your Inner Mentor looks like, allow this more fully expressed, authentic version of yourself to pull you forward into who you will become. We want to have a conversation with you! All In For Me: A Career Change Journey

I'm continuing to read the book “Playing Big” by Tara Mohr .  In the next chapter of her book, Tara introduces the concept of the Inner Mentor with a visualization exercise where you meet yourself twenty years from now, looking back in life from then to where you are right now.  Pretty trippy.  And amazing.   I'd love to raise all of our girls to seek their wisdom within.  Not to the exclusion of the guidance or wisdom those of us around them, but with equal weight.  For women to listen to themselves, trust themselves and honor their own inner wisdom would be a victory for humanity.

Hello horizontal lovers. horizontal is consensual eavesdropping on conversations about intimacy of all kinds, recorded while lying down, wearing robes. In this and the following episode, I lie down with Kai Mata, Indonesia’s rainbow-toting, openly LGBTQ+ singer-songwriter. She is a thoughtful rock star, an articulate activist, a love advocate, an outspoken woman with a bamboo guitar living a love life of liberation in a country that expects its women to be neither outspoken nor liberated. I love her. And her meter-long hair. Kai wears maroon and black almost exclusively, right down to her motorbike helmet. She displays or wears a rainbow flag at every single show, at every single gig, and she will continue to do so until all of her people are free to love who they love. She battles internet trolls, social media harassment, hate messages, homophobia, discrimination, and erasure by her culture of origin on a daily basis. She is publicly out in a country that persecutes its LGBTQ+ citizens. She is out for all of her fellow Indonesians who cannot be yet, in the hopes of a new era in which they all can feel safe to be. By the way, she’s 22 years-old. I first encountered Kai through a Facebook post she made, raising awareness of the persecution of anybody with a queer identity in Indonesia, and the government’s attempt to slip their discrimination into law. These are Kai’s words, posted on February 21st, 2020: I need your help. Indonesia is trying to label all LGBTQ+ people as deviants dangerous to society, legally requiring us to go to conversion therapy. I am one of the only publicly LGBTQ+ Indonesian Women

When Kim Kimball's parents divorced, she wasn't sure whether she'd ever be able to trust a relationship enough to get married. Then... the universe intervened and sent Paul her way. He knew he was going to marry her the day they met. She learned that opening herself up to being seen and truly being vulnerable brought more love into her life than she might have imagined. "The more that you open yourself up, the more that you're vulnerable? The more love you're able to receive." Wise words! Kim Kimball is a self-love coach who helps women stop people pleasing and create kind boundaries. Women who work with Kim learn how to speak up and ask for what they need. No more playing small, no more putting yourself last! As someone who has been coached by Kim, I can tell you that she is fierce and won't let you get away with anything ... in the best possible way. Give her a try. She's incredible. Find out more at www.kimkimballcoaching.com. Follow her on Instagram at @kimkimballcoaching -- and see beautiful photos. Email her at hello@kimkimballcoaching.com.

Tara Mohr’s own Next Chapter began at the intersection of frustration and hope. Frustration that so many brilliant women could not see their own brilliance and were holding back from sharing their gifts with the world and the pain she could see that caused them, and hope that, when shown a way to change things, that more women would then step up and become the wise and compassionate leaders we are so capable of. That’s when her model of Playing Big was born, forged from hundreds of conversations, thousands of coaching hours and her own personal experience in Corporate America where a woman’s voice was not always heard. In this wholehearted conversation Tara and I explore some of the key themes in her book, of the same name and explore many ways in which you can connect with your own Inner Mentor to follow your callings, sidestep the perfectionism that can see you “designing at the whiteboard” for far too long, embrace feedback and let go of the pressure of creating success. An inspiring conversation with an inspirational woman, Tara encourages us all to Play Big on our terms, and to step into a future that expresses and leverages our often hidden potential  If you are enjoying this show, please take a moment to review the Next Chapter Podcast in iTunes - your feedback is hugely appreciated and very helpful. Author Tara Mohr talks about those rare moments in our lives when we have a clear, wise intuition or thought, and we see the solution. We have those moments here or there, but we can’t easily access that part of ourselves consistently. The "inner mentor" is a tool that allows us to access that wisest part of ourselves much more reliably.

“Everybody has something to share. If it's based on experience and shared from a pure and authentic place of humility and transparency, it is powerful beyond measure.”Julie PiattIt's been a while, but Julie and I are finally back with another installment of Ask Me Anything — a twist on my typical format where we answer questions submitted by you, the listener. I absolutely love this format, primarily because it connects me more deeply and authentically with the global community of people who enjoy the show. Because community is truly what it's all about. This is an exciting time for us. We have been working super hard getting everything ready for the impending release of The Plantpower Way, so we thought it would be fun to share a little behind the scenes on why we wrote the book; the collaborative and often intense two-year process undertaken to create it; the insane amount of effort and diligence required to launch a book into the mainstream; and our ultimate aspirations for the work. Then the conversation turns to listener submitted inquiries. A conversation that explores:parenting tips for temperamental teenagers;the nutritional needs of athletic plant-based kids;the journey towards service & mentorship;tips for starting a podcast based on Rich's experience;gender challenges faced in the wellness lifestyle;pursuing a plant-based lifestyle on a budget;the impact of increasing nutrient density on appetite & cravings; and culminates withIn the Sun- an original song by SriMati (aka Julie)It was really fun to once again sit down with Julie — my wife and co-collaborator — to engage with the audience first hand, hashing out free-form the subjects you care about most. Thank you everyone who submitted the 100's of questions we reviewed. If we didn't get to yours (obviously chances are we didn't), nonetheless please keep them coming. I plan on doing many more supplemental Q&A focused editions of the show (both with Julie and surprise guest hosts), so don't be shy. Fire your queries off to info@richroll.com and we'll do our best to answer!I sincerely hope you enjoy the offering.Peace + Plants,SHOW NOTESListen & Subscribe on iTunes | Soundcloud | Stitcher | TuneInThank you to this week’s show sponsor: Harrys.com.
