I recently re-read Dave Ramsey's book on a Total Money Makeover. It gives you the baby steps you can take to be completely financially independent and financially healthy and even financially wealthy. It often says if you'll live like no one else now, you can live like no one else later. Meaning if you'll live a very frugal and sacrificial life today, you can experience a life of abundance in your later years. A lot of us think about financial security for the future. We pay into social security. We pay into retirement accounts, Roth IRAs and investments. We accumulate land, property and possessions; we build equity in our homes. All so that we can spend the last 10 or 20 years we have on this planet as comfortably as possible. Now, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with saving for retirement. There's nothing wrong with Dave Ramsey's book; like I said, I've read it twice. I encourage you to read it at least once as well. But those retirement years are a drop in the bucket compared to the time we're going to spend in the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus. And of course, statistically those 20 years are nothing compared to our eternities in heaven. So we are way way off-base, I would say, with how much time we spend planning for our retirement compared to how much time we spend planning for forever. And it's one thing to earn rewards. That's what we talked about in last week's episode. But did you know the Bible also has quite a bit to say about losing them? I mean, think of the devastation you'd feel if you lost your retirement account. What a tragedy of an even greater magnitude to put in the work and the effort and the accomplishment of gaining a millennial kingdom reward only to lose it? And what are the things we can do to lose our rewards? You'll find out today on the Cross References podcast. If you want to get in touch with me, send an email to crossreferencespodcast@gmail.comIf you're looking for a detailed Ezekiel Bible study, cross-referenced with supporting scripture, this podcast will provide an in-depth look at the prophets of the Bible, with clear Bible prophecy explained. We explore Ezekiel's visions and other Old Testament Bible study topics through careful Bible exegesis to help you in understanding the Book of Ezekiel in a deeper way. I'm glad you're here, and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE so you never miss an episode!
Mike "C-Roc" welcomes special guests Shana and Vanessa, also known as the Budget Besties. These two dynamic women share their journey of financial transformation and empowerment. Shana and Vanessa recount how their friendship began when their sons were toddlers and grew into a partnership dedicated to helping others take control of their finances. Inspired by Dave Ramsey's The Total Money Makeover, they embraced a lifestyle of intentional spending, leading to significant milestones like becoming mortgage- and debt-free by age 31. The Budget Besties discuss how they now work with individuals and families who make good money but often have nothing to show for it due to lifestyle creep and unintentional spending. They emphasize that financial success isn't about how much you earn but about being deliberate with your resources. Sharing client stories, they illustrate how anyone can align their finances with their values and goals, whether they're downsizing voluntarily or navigating unexpected challenges like job loss or major life transitions. Shana and Vanessa passionately advocate for what they call being “bougie on a budget,” showing how it's possible to live a fulfilling life, enjoy luxuries, and meet financial goals like saving, investing, and paying off debt—all within a sustainable budget. Through humor and practical advice, they inspire listeners to step back, evaluate their spending, and make intentional choices that lead to a more balanced and content lifestyle. I LOVE books. The way they smell, what they offer, the energy that they are! Today I share about two books that have inspired me to lean into things I have RESISTED. Masculine energy in my business in the form of a budget. "She Builds" by Jadah Sellner and "Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey both offered ideas that are sparking and re-igniting my desire to harmonize the masculine and feminine sides of budget, money and business. So FUN! XO Ange

C-Roc introduces Deacon Hayes, who paid off $52,000 of debt in 18 months and now helps others achieve financial freedom. Deacon discusses his challenging upbringing with divorced parents, a mother on welfare, and a father in jail, emphasizing perseverance as a crucial trait in overcoming personal and financial obstacles. Initially believing debt was necessary, Deacon realized it perpetuated a paycheck-to-paycheck cycle. Learning from successful people and financial books like Rich Dad Poor Dad and Total Money Makeover he adopted Dave Ramsey's debt snowball method to eliminate his debt. Deacon also values using credit cards wisely for rewards and prefers index funds over mutual funds for their lower costs and better performance. He shares his real estate investment experience during the 2007-2008 crash, stressing the importance of risk calculation and considering all potential costs. Deacon's career transitioned from wood flooring sales to financial planning and eventually to running his financial website, Well Kept Wallet. A significant turning point was a local TV feature that brought substantial traffic and revenue to his website. Deacon highlights the importance of a clear call to action in PR and media appearances, using search engine optimization (SEO) to attract consistent traffic, and engaging his audience with valuable content and challenges like the $1,000 savings challenge. "A Proven Plan for Finance Fitness"
A member of my 28-Day Challenge coaching program asked: "I'm curious: what do your kids do for work or how do they learn work ethic? Our oldest is almost 16 and starting a job this summer which is flexible (thank goodness) but as much as she and our family go places we are trying to make sure we're home for part of the summer so she can get hours at that job and earn some money! I know there are ways to earn outside a typical job: do you have a list of ideas for me? We considered selling some of her crafty works on Etsy and she's done babysitting jobs, but I don't see those online options really "paying off". When we consider doing yard work for others or house cleaning etc, I wonder how safe that is for her to go into homes alone... ...and I feel like our summers will be eaten up soon by our older kids trying to hold down jobs. My spouse feels it's so important for them to learn how to work for someone and they can work during the school year, but it would have to be a REALLY flexible employer. ;) I'd love any insight you (or others!) have." And... "Greg said once that his children WILL be wealthy when they grow up. What is it that gives him that kind of confidence (without of course giving them the money!

Money. It's a word that can evoke so many emotions, from joy and security to anxiety and frustration. I've had my own journey with money, and to be quite honest, it's not always been a healthy one. I want to explore the concept of wealth from a Christian perspective with you, discuss developing a Christian money mindset, and share some valuable resources to help you manage your finances. The goal here is not just to answer these questions but to guide you towards healing your mindset about money, embracing wealth as an opportunity, and improving your money management skills. I'm on this journey with you, so let's do this together. It's no secret that I got my financial philosophy from the one and only Dave Ramsey. And it's the advice in Dave's Total Money Makeover that helped me pay off debt, get my feet under me, and eventually empowered me to become a net worth millionaire. But despite that thrilling tale of victory and triumph, I still get a lot of flack from people for touting the Total Money Makeover. So today, I'm going to take a look the most common objections I get in regard to this controversial money book to see whether the flack is fact or the flack is whacked. It's Sunday, which means...it's recap time here on the Retirement Quick Tips Podcast This week the theme was: Best Personal Finance Books To Read This Summer In case you missed any episodes, here are my top summer book recommendations: The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey The Psychology of Money: Timeless Lessons on Wealth, Greed, and Happiness by Morgan Housel The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton Malkiel Managing God's Money: A Biblical Guide by Randy Alcorn The most important takeaway from this week is…managing your money well is about understanding the basics well, and being disciplined - both with your spending and saving habits, and with your emotions and how you react to what's happening with your investments and in the economy. The lessons learned in these books are enduring lessons that I have carried with me over the years, and the knowledge you'll gain if you read any or all these books will serve you well for years to come. Tomorrow, I'm starting a brand new theme: how to protect yourself from cyber theft. Criminals are getting very good at tricking consumers, where it's now possible to impersonate you over the phone, tricking even your own family members into thinking it's you on the phone. And with AI getting more sophisticated, the potential for cyber theft is even scarier. So next week, I'll talk about the top ways you can protect your money from cyber theft. Thank you so much for listening this week! "We don't get into debt by doing the math." That's from finance guru Dave Ramsey who says getting out of debt, and then creating wealth, is about your behavior. Dave, and co-host of the Ramsy Show, George Kamel, explain how tens of millions of people have turned their lives around financially by taking 'baby steps.' George also goes over the questions you need to ask yourself before making any purchase. He calls it the S.M.A.R.T. system. You can follow this show on Instagram and on Facebook. This week's theme on the Retirement Quick Tips Podcast is: Best Personal Finance Books To Read This Summer Today's book choice is a book that I first read in college. It really opened my eyes to debt, how damaging it can be, and the importance of priorities when it comes to how you manage your money. It's one of the reasons why I became a financial advisor - to help people and to change lives like Dave Ramsey was doing through his book and radio show. The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey is best for those of you who are stressed out by money or trying to get out of debt. His baby steps and inspirational stories highlighted in the book will create a roadmap for getting out and staying out of debt. Description: There's a reason why this book has been a long-time bestseller, and his show has more than 16 million weekly listeners - it's because his advice is straightforward and simple and if you follow it Why I like it so much: The advice is timeless and because there's so many books in circulation, you can find a decent used one for around $5 Pairs well with: coffee, a highlighter and a notebook (taking notes) - you can also buy a companion notebook. You can read this one on the beach, especially with all the stories that are sprinkled throughout the book, but you're going to want to make sure you understand the practical advice and baby steps, and for that, you'll want to take some notes or buy the workbook that goes with it. That's it for today. Thanks for listening!
