Episode 123- Join host Troy Saunders as he chats the vocal powerhouse singer, writer and arranger Jacci McGhee!!Best known for her belted-out duet with Keith Sweat on the hit song of the 1980s, “Make It Last Forever,” Jacci has returned, from a self-admitted dark place, to her passion and gift of singing. Actually, Jacci began her reappearance on the music scene in 2015 with step-out vocals alongside Dominique, on DJ Jay Salter's international EDM hit, “Angel of Mine” (Soul Remix). Once the song took off on the streaming sites, momentum began to build. It continued to escalate with the booking of a modeling job through a chance encounter at a local New York coffee. “The owner of a gourmet popcorn line approached me and asked me if I would do a print ad for him in a food magazine,” she said. “It became my first modeling job.” Afterward, she was a bitten by the acting bug, co-starring in a short film on teen suicide with Marc John Jefferies, the actor best known for film and TV productions: “Power”; “Get Rich or Die Tryin'” and “Losing Isaiah,” to name a fewMcGhee's music career was spawned by her duet with Sweat on the R&B chart-topper “Make It Last Forever” and lead vocals on Salt-N-Pepa's hit “Expression.” Immediately afterward, she was signed to MCA, now Geffen Records, releasing a top 10 R&B single, “It Hurts Me.” With corporate shake-ups, she got lost in the fray. But bounced back as the successor to Sandra St. Victor, taking over as lead vocalist for urban alternative band The Family Stand, on their “Connected” album.Following the dissolution of the band, she steered her vocal talents to opportunities to sing jingles for ad campaigns while raising a family. Her reconnections with DJ Jay Salter resulted in the 2017 Christmas pop single, “Every Day Is A Holiday.”In 2017, the New York native used her vocal and comedic chops to host R&B Live showcases in Charlotte, N.C., and Philadelphia, and later worked alongside Talent The Comedian, in collaborative routines. However, the family took priority. Upon her return to New York, the mother of three took a hiatus from music to immediately step into the role of caregiver for her fourteen-year-old daughter, Madison, who was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes.A woman of great faith, Jacci said it was a spiritual experience that encouraged her to return to singing. “The Most High touched my spirit and told me to move forward and sing again,” she said. That decision resulted in a return collaboration with a friend and former producer, DECLARE. Together, they composed the new single “If This World Were Mine” with an accompanying video, directed by her son, Kamrin, a filmmaker and graduate of the arts from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Her daughter also makes a cameo. In 2022, Jacci released ‘Riches of the World' - a high-octane cautionary pop record with an equally electric music video - in addition to a Remix with legendary hip-hop artist Chubb Rock the following year.In the summer of 2023, the re-release of the expanded edition of Jacci McGhee's self-titled debut album (1992) hit all streaming platforms. Jacci's 2023 single ‘Time and Time' would also go on to chart highly on the UK Amazon charts. A year later, in the summer of 2024, Jacci debuted her latest single 'Slow Down,' produced by Father MC, with music composed by Rockwilder. Her latest single 'No More', produced by Producer Declare, is set to release November 8th. This single paves the way for her forthcoming EP Jacci's Closet, releasing January 2025“I've got butterflies in my stomach because it's all new to me. But it just feels like it's my time and I'm ready.”— Jacci McGheeListen and subscribe to the BAAS Entertainment Podcast on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Podchaser, Pocket Casts and TuneIn. “Hey, Alexa. Dominique tells her story about getting diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2016 due to a DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) episode. Dominique didn't let that slow her down for too long. She quickly figured out how to live with this diagnosis, and how to care for herself correctly so she could continue doing the things that she loves. It is inspiring to listen to her talk about continuing to do what she loves and not letting her diagnosis keep her down. Dominique also tells us about her alert dog Bowie and how he had been so accurate at alerting her when her levels are off. We loved recording this episode with Dominique. She is an inspiration and an amazing woman. I'll end this with a quote from her mother.

Nancy Gaudet is a strong, fiercely independent woman who cares deeply and loves unconditionally. Her story involves doing a bike ride for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to raise funds for children with Type One diabetes, as her son had been diagnosed with it at age nine. It was her fourth ride and she was 58 years old. She completed the 100 miles and two hours later had a massive seizure, landing her in the ICU unit at a hospital in Florida. She spent five days there close to kidney failure and was read her last rites. Fortunately, she has no permanent damage, went through months of rehab, and changed her life. Nancy manages 12,000 apartments and supervises 400 staff for a family-owned real estate company in Boston. Her greatest joy is her 22-year-old son. She also is an advocate and fundraiser. She started and has been running for ten years a monthly support group for other moms, whose children also have juvenile diabetes, helping more than 200 mothers with that effort. Nancy met her soulmate during the pandemic, while working on another fundraiser. She and her partner were both working on a fundraising project for dear friends. A friendship formed, and a goal of raising a substantial amount of money to help mutual friends was achieved. According to Nancy, that first kiss, after months of talking on the phone for hundreds of hours, was just like living in a Hallmark movie. There was that one singular, slow motion moment when time stood still and two very bruised and battered hearts let the tiny droplets of love seep in slowly. She believes that there are no coincidences; there are only “God instances.” To learn more about Nancy's support group for women whose children have juvenile diabetes, email her at NancyGaudet60@gmail.com. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/maria-leonard-olsen/support

But maybe pick one or two to breath a little life into their type 1 diabetes management. These are just a few ideas to make life with T1D prettier, more awesome, more manageable and possibly a little easier. Don't celebrate the holidays? No worries! The Glycemic Index (GI). What is it? Why do we need to know about it in the world of Type 1 Diabetes Management? In short, the Glycemic Index is a scale from 1 to 100 that tells you how fast and how hard a food will effect blood sugar levels. Scores at or near 100 will be converted to glucose almost immediately. Andi Balog, a personal trainer and T1D nutritionist joins me on today's episode to discuss the GI index, her own journey as a Type 1 Diabetic and her passion for helping women with T1D lose weight. Personally, I like to know the GI of foods to help me determine how I am going to bolus for certain foods and meals. It helps me decide how long the prebolus should be, do I need to split the dose or extend the bolus? Do I need to make any temp basal changes to cover the meal properly? The GI index is another tool I use to help me manage my daughter's Type 1 and use the insulin to the best of my knowledge. Do you or your child have Type 1 Diabetes? Are you wondering if other members of your family, adults or children, may be at risk for developing T1D? Is there a way to screen for that? If they are at risk, is there anything that can be done to delay or prevent the onset of Type 1? These are all fabulous questions and the answers to all of them are discussed in today's episode. In this episode, I had the pleasure of talking with Frank Martin, Director of Research at JDRF, about their T1Detect program. We also get to hear all about TrialNet from Dr. Michael Haller, professor and Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Florida (UF) as well as the principal investigator of the UF TrialNet Clinical Center. See below for descriptions of both with links to their websites to find out more and order your own at-home screening kit. What is T1Detect?T1Detect, JDRF's screening education and awareness program, will arm you with the information you need before and after getting screened for type 1 diabetes (T1D) autoantibodies. Until now, T1D symptoms and a diagnosis often come out of the blue. Today, families can use testing to detect T1D early so they can plan and prepare. With one blood test, anyone at any age can find out—before symptoms even occur—if they are at risk for developing T1D. The test is easy, simple and can help save lives.Their website: https://www.jdrf.org/t1d-resources/t1detect/ What is TrialNet?TrialNet is an international network of leading academic institutions, endocrinologists, physicians, scientists and healthcare teams at the forefront of type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. We offer risk screening for relatives of people with T1D and innovative clinical studies testing ways to slow down and prevent disease progression. Our goal: a future without T1D!Their website: https://www.trialnet.org/Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sugarmama)

On the #49th Episode of Chase The Vase, I needed a re-due, another crack at Derek Price. Derek was my first guest on Chase The Vase and I wanted to tap into the mental aspect of his game. Derek earned a scholarship to the University of Iowa and followed by a career in the NFL to play for the Detroit Lions. It was cut short due to a severe neck injury which required career ending surgery. Derek wasted no time post NFL departure getting his life on a new track and promptly enrolled into Life University College of Chiropractic. He found a program called SEALFIT while in conversation with other SEALs. He enrolled in a Navy SEAL Hell Week administered by current and former SEALS. Selected Honor Man of Class 17, he was awarded an entry intern position with the SEALFIT team. He was one of a very small population of Certified SEALFIT Kokoro Coaches that administers SEALFIT camps around the world. Some notable SEALFIT coaching pursuits include University of South Alabama, St. John Bosco High School, Nike, and multiple Law enforcement groups. Derek has served as Sr. Cadre for more than 20 HELL WEEK simulations with the SEALFIT group. Dr. Price has built a large CrossFit Competition event production group and has held benefit events throughout the years for numerous causes to include Autism Awareness, Juvenile Diabetes, Women's Health, Pediatric Cancer and many others. Currently Dr. Price owns and operates a beautiful Sports Orthopedic Medical Clinic complete with numerous specialties. He still finds time to train daily with his friends and family and to prepare for his personal endurance and functional fitness such as Ironman Triathlons, CrossFit Competitions and Alcatraz Open water swim races. Derek is a leader in the area of mental health and mental toughness. He leads men in all aspects of his life and trains men and women on how to develop leadership and mental toughness. He perfects his craft by doing. Derek is constantly in motion learning how to implement structure and change. Honored to share the microphone with Derek Price. In this episode I get to talk to Brooke Gibson who is the founder of T1D Sugar Mommas, a group that supports women living with Type 1 Diabetes who are navigating through the stages of family planning, pregnancy and early motherhood. Brooke has been a Type 1 Diabetic for the past 36 years and has 5 children of her own! In other words, she's pretty darn qualified to talk about this subject and guide other T1D women through the process. Brooke tells us all about the inspiration behind T1D Sugar Mommas, how it started, what it offers and more! If I had to sum this episode up in one word for us parents and caregivers of Type 1 Diabetics it would be HOPE. Hope that our warriors will be able to grow up and have a family of their own. Hope and peace knowing that there is an awesome support system in place for the T1D women going through family planning, pregnancy and early motherhood. I am so grateful for women and people like Brooke who are passionate about helping others based on their own experiences. Thank you, Brooke!
