On this episode of Raise the Line, we're going to learn about the organization behind one of the most important exams in healthcare: the NCLEX, which is the licensing exam for nurses in the US. The influence of the test, which is overseen by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), is hard to overstate because of its role in driving what nursing students and educators focus on. That was made evident when the heavily revamped Next Generation NCLEX, launched in 2023, placed much greater emphasis on clinical judgment than had been the case on past exams. “I think the education transformation prompted by the new exam is still going on. The launch was more of a catalyst than I expected,” says Dr. Philip Dickison, CEO of NCSBN, who was director of Health Professions Testing at Elsevier before joining the Council in 2010. Through administering licensing exams and serving as the collective voice of nursing regulators across the country, Dickison says NCSBN strives to achieve its ultimate goal, which is building public confidence in the competence of nurses. “I see our job at the Council as making sure there is a moment of trust between a patient and their nurse.” Join host Liz Lucas, Senior Content Manager for Nursing at Osmosis from Elsevier, as she explores the important work that goes on behind the scenes in the healthcare industry to help ensure public health and safety, and uncovers what Dickison learned as a military medic that still influences his work today.Mentioned in this episode:National Council of State Boards of Nursing

Leaning into the ancient wisdom that ‘practice makes perfect' nursing educators are increasingly embracing approaches such as simulation and competency based education that provide students with low-risk opportunities to practice skills. You might even say that the ‘see one, do one, teach one' framework has evolved into ‘see one, do one, debrief, get assessed and do it again.' But while research shows these hands-on methods lead to increased patient safety and better clinical outcomes, they can be challenging to implement as we'll learn on this episode from April Rowe Neal, PhD, RN, the graduate nursing simulation educator at Winona State University College of Nursing & Health Sciences. “It can be hard for a lot of faculty because it's not necessarily how we've all been trained, right? You have to take more of that ‘guide on the side' role rather than having all of your lecture notes perfectly typed to deliver to your students,” she explains to new Raise the Line host Kelsey LaFayette, DNP, Senior Content Manager at Osmosis from Elsevier. On the plus side, Rowe Neal thinks these methods build a partnership between the learner and the teacher. Find out why that happens, learn how her program uses scaffolding to set students up for success and get Rowe Neal's take on the role of mindfulness for medical learners and providers in this insightful conversation.Mentioned in this episode:Winona State University College of Nursing & Health Sciences

The Nashville Predators open training camp today with team meetings and physicals before taking the ice for the first official practice tomorrow. New General Manager Barry Trotz talked with Emma Lingan, Senior Content Manager and Beat Reporter for the Preds about what he wants to see this season, and his comments have Nick and Ann asking some questions about what 2023-24 may hold. One of the biggest questions going into training camp is how Andrew Brunette's new systems might impact players like Roman Josi and the roster construction in the bottom six. The Predators fan base is ready for a youth movement, but is Barry Trotz ready to risk a young player's confidence when it comes to playing big minutes? We talk about his comments and what that may mean for some fresh faces in Nashville. Trotz has also put all the players on notice that this will be a training camp all about competition. Nick and Ann share their three "sure things" when it comes to starters, but which other players may be in battles for NHL ice time? Finally, we discuss how new-to-Nashville veterans Ryan O'Reilly, Gustav Nyquist, and Luke Schenn could help grow an already resilient culture in the locker room.Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
Locked On Predators - Daily Podcast On The Nashville Predators
Finally, we discuss how new-to-Nashville veterans Ryan O'Reilly, Gustav Nyquist, and Luke Schenn could help grow an already resilient culture in the locker room. I like to get laser-focused on what data I need and love to ask questions... That's what will be interesting to the reader." - Amber Peckham, Senior Content Manager, DemandJumpKey TakeawaysDon't get so locked in on search engine-optimized keywords that you leave out the human element in content creation.Content writers need to embody the reader's headspace so they can understand their needs and wants while bridging the gap between the client and their audience.Good content often comes down to good research. Now that we've introduced our revolutionary Pillar-Based Marketing strategy, it's time to roll up your sleeves and put the digital pen to paper—that's why we're focusing our Writers Roundtable series on pillar pages and topics. In part 1, Andrew Gold and Clare Sheehan, Content Manager and Senior Content Manager at DemandJump, share how to get started with your pillar page and strategy—and what else you need to know before diving into researching and writing.Quotes“What helps me set up a pillar page is by asking, ‘What is my motivation for writing this piece? What are the pain points? What does my customer care about? What are they feeling?' Getting the imagery and the empathy into the introduction on the page first really sets the scene for the whole blog.” - Andrew Gold, Content Manager, DemandJump “When doing the research process, we're looking at articles and trying to find authoritative sources on a topic. It's really beneficial to read as much of the content that the competitors have pushed out relating to the topic as possible just to see what they're saying, and how it differs from messaging that we learned about in our kickoff call with the customer.” - Clare Sheehan, Senior Content Manager, DemandJumpKey TakeawaysThe pillar page is the main piece of content and should cover a broad range of information and sub-topics relating to your central subject. The best method to map out your pillar strategy is by first breaking down the pillar page topic, sub-pillar topics, and supporting keywords. Engage readers by placing yourself in their shoes in order to provide solutions to their pain points vs. selling a product.Time Stamps:* (3:09) What is a topic cluster or pillar page? * (4:11) What goes into the process of creating a pillar page?* (10:32) How to balance sales with storytelling* (13:03) Where to begin research on your pillar page topic* (22:30) What motivates you to be a writer?* (25:57) Lightning Round! * (30:00) Drew & Ryan's takeaways --------SponsorThis podcast is brought to you by DemandJump.
