Koshee's flagship product, Koshee Protect, uses on-site AI detection to monitor security camera feeds in real time—identifying suspicious behaviors such as theft, weapon detection, perimeter breaches, and more. “We're not doing facial recognition,” Uselton emphasized. “We're focused on behaviors—jumping a fence, concealing an item, or pulling a weapon—not identities.” The system is designed for a range of customers, from small retailers and gas stations to global logistics companies. It works by processing video locally, maintaining privacy compliance while sending immediate alerts with image frames when predefined threats or behaviors are detected. The platform is highly configurable, allowing users to set different detection parameters by camera, location, and time of day. Koshee also provides role-based alerts, enabling specific employees to receive notifications depending on the context—such as detecting weapons in restricted zones or after-hours movement on remote sites. With integration options for both direct customers and channel partners (like MDI), Koshee is enabling smarter, more responsive security without compromising data ethics. It was a pleasure to review the non-fiction book; "We Need To Talk About Defence", by Andrew R. Curtis OBE. Overall, it is a detailed, and well-crafted read that will do two things. It effectively informs those not familiar with UK specific military terms, jargon and culture, while defining the problem of UK defence management. This segue leads to the author's primary goal, which is to propose a reformation of UK defence management in order to address the modern threat landscape. We Need To Talk About Defence, reviewed UK Defence For the 21st Century The book starts out with a comprehensive glossary of terms. For those not familiar with security and military slang, I would recommend perusing its contents. After setting the context of why you should read this book in a Forward by Sir Richard Barrons, the book moves into chapter one, 'Introduction'. Here, the author sets out to define the UK's peacetime oversights on defence, which have led to structural issues such as too much or too little authority. Chapter one has a detailed, yet coherent account of the UK defence apparatus. It will equip the reader for the following chapters. The author also summarizes historic UK defence management to the current day. Of note is the business of UK defence versus military implementation of defence objectives. The delineation of the two is part of the problem the author wishes to address. As you leave chapter one, it is the author's submission that holistic change should focus on how defence management conducts its day-to-day affairs. Moving Through The Chapters Chapter two, 'Why We Need To Talk About Defence', explores inter-group and inter-personal relations, which allow political creep into areas that can ill afford them. Ukraine, as an example of the deteriorating international threat landscape affecting the UK, demonstrates why the past cannot determine the future of UK defence. Chapter three, 'Acknowledging The Past' walks at a deeper level to chapter one regarding major changes to UK defence. The focus on 'Multi Domain Integration', aka. MDI, and the 'Levene Reforms' are key explorations of UK defence. They also offer clues how misunderstanding context in a fast-evolving threat landscape can lead to strategic oversights. The author introduces the United States Marine Corps, aka. USMC, as a template for military land, sea, and air integration. I agree with the author's opinion that the USMC, as a template, would not automatically work for UK defence. Culture and mission mandate are materially different. Chapter four, 'Learning From The Past', examines current UK defence management in particular. Here, the illustrations move to key figures, such as the non-discretionary GBP14 billion, of GBP52.8 billion in the 2022-23 UK defence budget. While the Official Secrets Act prohibits certain disclosures, top down political oversight, and resulting disjoint to implementation, is a well-made point. Chapter five, 'Looking To The Future', digs into some key points. Ukraine's learned lessons, adversary study of western war-fighting strategies, and more, expose UK defence at a below-the-threshold of war level. A traditionally slim defence mandate has solidified over peacetime to present a threat to UK national security. An acceptance of holistic risk based observations is key to a level of flexibility which the UK and others are wise to accept. Chapter six, 'Canadian Armed Forces Unification', is a case study of good intent that initially failed. It went through three major stages of change in its sixty-year journey to become functional branches under one management roof. Chapter seven, 'The United States Marine Corps', is another case study that delves deeper than in prior chapters into the strengths and weaknesses of the USMC. The author evaluates them against UK defence needs. This includes the latest expansion of the corps into combating 'grey-zone' threats. Chapter eight, 'Modern Defence Forces', is a subjective look at what makes up a moder...

Send us a text'Choices...' shape our lives, directing not just our temporal decisions but affecting and also influencing those around us. In this week's sermon, in lieu of eternity, Pastor Mark invites you to reflect on the monumental power of spiritual decisions through the captivating story of Joshua 24. Discover why choosing to serve God is not merely a one-time decision but a choice with eternal ramifications. With scriptural exegesis and transitional thoughts, we are challenged to reflect upon the 3 challenges offered within our sermon:1. GOD Chose To Love Us Unconditionally2. GOD Is Jealous Towards What Rightly Belongs To HIM3. Tomorrow Isn't Promised (Eternity Is) Choose TodayPastor Mark emphasizes God's unwavering faithfulness to the Israelites and challenges us to acknowledge His first choice to love us. This message challenges us to prioritize and nurture an exclusive devotion to God that echoes throughout our sphere of influence and long outlives our earthly existence.Pastor Mark also shines a light on the transformative practice of gratitude, inspired by Joshua's reminder of God's endless goodness to HIS people. Expressing gratitude for daily provisions and blessings, even when our desires remain unmet, opens our hearts to the fullness of what God has always done - currently does - and shall always do: provide for HIS people. Pastor Mark closes with the urgency and necessity of choosing whom we will serve, sharing personal stories that illustrate faith's shaping power on families and communities. We realize that only GOD can convict and change hearts to make spiritual choices in lieu of eternity. Our hope in offering GOD'S WORD this week is that if you have yet to decide on your eternal well-being, why not consider today?'CHOICES'Joshua 24:13-15Song of the Week: Choose by MDI. feat. Every January the Consumer Electronics Show gives us a glimpse at what technology might be coming. This show used to be full of phones and TV screens, but more and more CES is featuring health care. We're taking a deep dive into one of the innovations on display - VIVI Smart - which aims to make multiple daily injections easier. Plus, other diabetes tech from the show that we think we'll actually be using.. and some that may be more wishful thinking. My guest this week is Ron Nagar, the founder and CEO of TempraMed, the company that makes the VIVI Cap. I've talked about this product before, and we've used it with success.. Ron will talk about what's new here. I think this is a great and really interesting trend to make MDI easier and more automated. Most people around the world do not use insulin pumps and while I'm grateful for the automation of the AID systems – it's really important that companies continue to serve the entire diabetes population. This podcast is not intended as medical advice. If you have those kinds of questions, please contact your health care provider. Diabetes Dialogue: Therapeutics, Technology, & Real-World Perspectives
Video version only on HCPLive! In this episode of Diabetes Dialogue, hosts Diana Isaacs, PharmD, an endocrine clinical pharmacist, director of Education and Training in Diabetes Technology, and codirector of Endocrine Disorders in Pregnancy at the Cleveland Clinic, and Natalie Bellini, DNP, program director of Diabetes Technology at University Hospitals Diabetes and Metabolic Care Center, speak with Eran Atlas, chief executive officer of DreaMed Diabetes, on the evolution and current functionality of his company's automated insulin technology, originally developed within a prominent diabetes treatment center in Israel, and now integrated with Medtronic's 780G system. Atlas Described how DreaMed Diabetes started focusing on automated insulin delivery but has expanded into developing a comprehensive digital care platform. This platform, called endo.digital, is designed to optimize insulin therapy for people with diabetes using AI-driven algorithms. It can gather data from various devices, including continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps, analyze it, and offer tailored insulin recommendations to providers, which can be automatically integrated into the patient's medical records. Atlas further explained how the platform supports both insulin pump users and those on multiple daily injections (MDI). Hosts discussed how this algorithm could detect potential issues, such as incorrect carb ratios, missed insulin doses, or improper basal insulin adjustments, and subsequently provide actionable recommendations for providers. These insights are aimed at improving the quality of care and increasing accessibility to expert care for people with diabetes, especially in settings where endocrinologists are not readily available. Currently, the system is FDA-cleared to work with glucose data and doesn't require direct insulin data input, as it can infer insulin events from glucose trends. The company's platform is currently deployed in multiple health systems, including the Yale University health system and Boston Children's Hospital, with a focus on increasing its reach to primary care providers. Atlas indicated one key benefit of the platform is its ability to save providers significant time by automating documentation and visit summaries, which has already resulted in hundreds of hours saved in health systems. Looking forward, Atlas described how DreamMed Diabetes is expanding its offerings, including working on solutions for basal-only insulin patients and enhancing the platform's capabilities to include other diabetes therapies, such as GLP-1 medications. Atlas emphasized the company's mission to improve care access and outcomes, particularly in underserved populations. Relevant disclosures for Isaacs include Eli Lilly and Company, Novo Nordisk, Sanofi, Abbott Diabetes Care, Dexcom, Medtronic, and others. I'm Stacey Simms and every other Friday I bring you a short episode with the top diabetes stories and headlines happening now. XX Mannkid expects to talk to the FDA about Afrezza inhaled insulin for pediatric approval early in 2025. The company just announced six-month results from its Phase 3 INHALE-1 study of kids aged 4-17 with type 1 or type 2 diabetes comparing either inhaled pre-meal insulin or multiple daily injections (MDI) of rapid-acting insulin analog, both in combination with basal insulin. A 26-week extension phase in which all remaining MDI patients were switched to inhaled insulin is ongoing. HbA1c change over 26 weeks exceeded the prespecified non-inferiority margin of 0.4% (0.435%), largely driven by the variability of a single patient who did not adhere to the study protocol. A modified ITT (mITT) analysis, which excluded this subject, did not exceed the predetermined threshold of 0.4% (0.370%), thereby establishing the non-inferiority of Afrezza to MDI, which was the primary endpoint of the study. Over 26 weeks of treatment, there were no differences in lung function parameters between the treatment groups, There were no differences between groups or concerns in other safety measures, including hypoglycemia. https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/inhaled-insulin-benefits-kids-diabetes-too-2024a1000nex XX Dexcom announces the use of AI for its Stelo platform. The company says the new Dexcom GenAI platform will analyze individual health data patterns to reveal a direct association between lifestyle choices and glucose levels while providing actionable insights to help improve metabolic health. Stelo users will start seeing the features this week. The AI is modeled after Google Cloud's Vertex AI and Gemini models. We'll hear more about this in January – Dexcom will be part of a panel at the Consumer Electronics Show about AI and healthcare. BTW this press release is the first time I've seen what seems to be a new slogan for Dexcom – Discover What You're Made Of. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20241217011997/en/Dexcom-Launches-the-First-Generative-AI-Platform-in-Glucose-Biosensing XX Staying with Dexcom, users report that the geofencing issue we reported on seems to be resolved. Previously, if you had an issue with Dexcom G7 outside of your home country, you couldn't reinstall or use the app without customer support. With the latest iOS and Android G7 apps, this seems to be resolved. This is according to the folks in the DIY community who first brought it to my attention. XX Interesting insulin development to watch. Egypt approves EVA Pharma's insulin drug products, which is a collbaration between Eli llly and EVA, an Egyptian company. The Egyptian Drug Authority approved the insulin glargine injection manufactured by EVA Pharma through a collaboration with Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY). Launched in 2022, the collaboration aims to deliver a sustainable supply of high-quality, affordable human and analog insulin to at least one million people annually living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in low- to middle-income countries (LMICs), most of which are in Africa. Lilly has been supplying its active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for insulin to EVA Pharma at a significantly reduced price and providing pro-bono technology transfer to enable EVA Pharma to formulate, fill and finish insulin vials and cartridges. This collaboration is part of the Lilly 30x30 initiative, which aims to improve access to quality health care for 30 million people living in resource-limited settings annually by 2030. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/lilly-and-eva-pharma-announce-regulatory-approval-and-release-of-locally-manufactured-insulin-in-egypt-302333269.html XX Can we add treating sleep apnea to the list of applications for terzepatide? That's the generic for Zepbound and Mounjaro. Phase 3 study shows that 10- and 15-milligram injections of Zepbound "significantly reduced the apnea-hypopnea index" among those who have obesity and moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea. Eli Lilly said there was nearly a 20% reduction in weight among those in the trials. The company said it plans to submit its findings to the Food and Drug Administration and other global regulatory agencies beginning mid-year. https://www.aol.com/popular-weight-loss-drug-could-131507702.html XX Health Canada okays Tandem's tslim X2 with Dexcom G7 and G6 making it the first and only insulin pump in Canada that is integrated with both Dexcom sensors. Now, t:slim X2 users in Canada can experience even more choice when it comes to CGM compatibility, along with the option to spend more time in closed loop with Dexcom G7's 30-minute sensor warm-up time, faster than any other CGM on the market.3 In addition, t:slim X2 users who pair Dexcom G7 with an Apple smartwatch4 can see their glucose numbers directly from their watch without having to access their pump or smartphone4. Tandem will email all in-warranty t:slim X2 users in Canada with instructions on how to add the new compatibility feature free of charge via remote software update. t:slim X2 pumps pre-loaded with the updated software will begin shipping to new customers in early January 2025. The jury awarded Insulet $170 million in compensatory damages from EOFlow and an additional $282 million in exemplary damages for willful and malicious misappropriation. A judge has not yet entered a judgment on the decision. Insulet filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts in 2023, claiming EOFlow copied patented components of its Omnipod insulin pumps. In October 2023, the Massachusetts district court issued a preliminary injunction against EOFlow. Following that decision, Medtronic called off plans to buy EOFlow for about $738 million. A federal appeals court later overturned the preliminary injunction, and EOFlow resumed selling its devices in Europe. The company recently defended against a separate injunction filed by Insulet in Europe's Unified Patent Court, according to Korea Biomedical Review, an online English newspaper based in Seoul, South Korea. The Massachusetts jury found this week that EOFlow and CEO Jesse Kim, as well as two of three former Insulet employees who were named as defendants in the lawsuit, misappropriated Insulet's trade secrets. Insulet CEO Jim Hollingshead said the company is “extremely pleased with the jury's verdict.” EOFlow did not immediately respond to a request for comment. https://www.medtechdive.com/news/insulet-eoflow-jury-verdict-patent-lawsuit/734745/ XX A tele-education program for health care providers who treat people with diabetes resulted in significant improvements in patient outcomes, including better blood sugar levels and increased use of medical devices to manage the disease, a University of Florida study finds. Led by researchers in the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions and the UF College of Medicine, the program used the Extension for Community Health Care Outcomes model, which has been adopted worldwide to train clinicians who treat patients with a variety of conditions. Known as Project ECHO, this is one of the first to demonstrate patient benefits for the program in a large, randomized trial. The findings appear in the journal Diabetes Care. https://ufhealth.org/news/2024/clinician-training-program-leads-to-better-outcomes-for-patients-with-diabetes XX New app under development to make driving safer for people with diabetes. Diabetes Driving Pal says it will use CGM data and guide you while you are driving without any annoying alerts. Guidance/suggestions will be on your car dashboard so that you don't have to look at phone and it will be very individualized and actionable. In a study last year, ~70% of people have reported (5% reported accident) to have at least one low blood sugar while driving and most reported that CGM alerts were not enough to protect them. To pump or not to pump? Sami and Ginger have both tried insulin pumps in the past — for many years, actually! Today, they both do MDI (multiple daily injections) of rapid-acting, long-acting, and inhaled insulin. Here's what we don't love about pumping and why maybe Sami should give an automated insulin delivery (AID) system a try when the time is right. About Type 1 Tea We're spilling the tea on T1D! Today, I'm excited to speak with Brian Argrett, Chair of the Board Directors and President and CEO of Broadway Financial Corporation and its banking subsidiary City First Bank, the largest Black-led minority depository institution (MDI) in the nation. Impact investing is an increasingly important topic for enterprise families and family offices. Our conversation today focuses on a truly unique and attractive avenue for positive impact available to enterprise families and family offices, which is made possible thanks to the Advancing Communities Together Deposit Program, or ACT – an innovative program that provides an easy and fully insured way for family offices to invest their excess cash directly in the financial institutions dedicated to lifting up communities in need. Brian describes the greater goals of the ACT program, why it is needed, what the issues or challenges it is meant to address, and what opportunities it is designed to unlock. The ACT Deposit Program was launched in the summer of 2024 by the national trade associations representing Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs). Brian explains how the ACT program works and defines the role of CDFIs and MDIs in delivering the intended impact and benefits of the program. He shares his views on why this program has strong appeal to family offices and enterprise families. Delving into the practical details of how the ACT program functions, Brian details the mechanics of the program, including some of the key elements family members and family office executives should be aware of, such as minimum deposits, interest rates earned, minimum maturity, etc. Brian also talks about what families and family office leaders can do to get involved with and take advantage of the ACT program. He offers an overview of existing resources and tools for them to get educated and ready to participate and contribute to the positive impact of this program. Enjoy this timely and informative conversation with a leading champion of the ACT program and long-time thought leader and practitioner in the impact banking space.

I'm Stacey Simms and every other Friday I bring you a short episode with the top diabetes stories and headlines happening now. XX Novo Nordisk moves ahead with a new combination: once-weekly insulin icodec and semaglutide. Called IcoSema, Novo plans to submit for approval in Europe, Canada, Japan and Australia but NOT the US. As we told you earlier this summer, icodec – once weeky basal insulin – was not approved by the US FDA. Semaglutide is the molecule underpinning Novo's immensely popular GLP-1 drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. Icodec has been approved as Awiqli in places like Europe, Canada, Japan and Australia but was snubbed by the FDA last month. The FDA has left the door open for another application, but Novo says they don't expect to iron it out this year. In studies, the combination worked well to lower A1C for people with type 2 and they lost weight. They also had fewer lows. https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma/corrected-after-icodec-rejection-novo-nordisk-wont-file-application-once-weekly-insulin-and XX An update from Tandm on their app recall. Back in March they notified users of the recall because of an issue that can cause rapid depletion of a user's t:slim X2 insulin pump battery. This battery depletion can result in the pump shutting down sooner than expected, which some customers have continued to experience even after an updated version of the app was released. Notices were emailed to impacted customers on August 9, 2024 with updated information and recommendations for helping avoid pump battery depletion. Tandem plans to release a new version of the app to address the remaining issues and will notify all users by email and app push notifications following its release. Impacted customers in the U.S. with questions about this recall can contact the Tandem Diabetes Care Technical Support Team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at techsupport@tandemdiabetes.com or (877) 801-6901. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20240812040222/en/Tandem-Diabetes-Care-Provides-Update-on-March-2024-Nationwide-Recall-of-tconnect-Mobile-App-for-iOS-Devices XX If you are an adult who has type 1 diabetes, you may be eligible to participate in a trial examining the impact of an investigational liver-targeted insulin on blood glucose control, A1C, and nighttime lows. This study is researching whether administering a liver-targeting insulin called HDV-L insulin (Hepatocyte-directed Vesicles-insulin lispro), will improve glycemic control. HDV-L insulin is designed to act on the liver to enhance glucose storage and decrease the frequency of severe hypoglycemia in individuals requiring insulin. It is not currently approved for use. For this trial, researchers are recruiting roughly 230 adults with type 1 diabetes aged 18-79 who are on multiple daily injections (MDI). This study is recruiting in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas. To enroll or learn more about this study, contact Todd Hobbs, MD at Diasome Pharmaceuticals at thobbs@diasome.com or call 216-780-9324. Clinical Trials Identifier: NCT06238778 https://diatribe.org/diabetes-research/new-study-tests-liver-targeted-insulin-type-1-diabetes XX Sanofi is investing heavily to boost insulin production. They opened a new facility in Germany for the basal insulin Lantus and they announced they will invest over one billion dollars to expand production capacity in France. Sanofi's considerable investment in insulin production is especially important given that other insulin companies appear to be focusing their efforts on production of GLP-1 medications like Mounjaro and Ozempic, rather than insulin. This has left some patients worried that Novo Nordisk and Lilly will leave them behind to pursue more lucrative products for weight loss, especially after Novo Nordisk decided to discontinue the basal insulin Levemir. https://diatribe.org/diabetes-medications/sanofi-build-new-state-art-insulin-plant XX Hoping to talk to Abbott and Medtronic soon about their partnership announced earlier this month. The companies announced that Abbot will create an integrated continuous glucose monitor that works only with Medtronic's diabetes technology and be sold exclusively by Medtronic. Along with announcing the partnership, Medtronic said Wednesday it received FDA approval for its Simplera CGM, which does not require fingersticks or overtape, unlike the company's previous sensors. The Simplera Sync sensor, which is designed to work with Medtronic's automated insulin delivery algorithm, is under FDA review separately. https://www.medtechdive.com/news/abbott-medtronic-partnership-automated-insulin-delivery/723600/ XX Researchers have developed a novel computer algorithm that can predict various diseases like diabetes or stroke, just by analysing the colour of the human tongue with 98 per cent accuracy. The imaging system developed by Middle Technical University (MTU) and the University of South Australia (UniSA) in Australia can diagnose conditions such as diabetes, stroke, anaemia, asthma, liver and gallbladder issues, Covid-19, and other vascular and gastrointestinal diseases. "The colour, shape, and thickness of the tongue can reveal a litany of health conditions," said Ali Al-Naji, adjunct Associate Professor at MTU and UniSA. The paper published in Technologies describes how the system analyses tongue colour to provide real-time diagnoses, demonstrating that AI can advance medical practices significantly. The breakthrough was achieved through a series of experiments using 5,260 images to train machine-learning algorithms to detect tongue colour. Researchers received 60 tongue images from two teaching hospitals in the Middle East, representing patients with diverse health conditions. The AI model matched tongue colour with the correct disease in nearly all cases. https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/new-algorithm-analyses-tongue-to-predict-diabetes-stroke-with-98-accuracy-6327124 XX Big roundup article from the UK Guardian all about 6 projects all around smart insulin. Not a lot new here, but it caused a lot of chatter. I'll link it up – good summary of all of the research happening in the space right now. Glucose-responsive insulin is the idea that you could give one injection and the insulin would respond to the rise and fall of glucose levels without further action by the person. https://www.theguardian.com/society/article/2024/aug/11/scientists-hail-smart-insulin-responds-changing-blood-sugar-levels-real-time-diabetes XX Edgepark Commercial XX Lance Bass (like glass) continues to keep the public posted on his recent LADA diagnosis. The boy band singer showing his IG audience more about what's also called diabetes 1.5 and explaining how he was first diagnosed with type 2. XX Ok, brace yourself – I promise this is a real story. The Fart Walk is actually good for you. Ok.. stay with me. This is really just a great silly reframing of something we all know, and I couldn't resist putting it in here. A wellness influencer put this out – you may have seen it – claiming the after dinner stroll can limit your risk of type 2 diabetes. A lot of studies confirm that – along with it having benefits if you already have diabetes. The flatulence part – or a release of gastric pressure – is also a known benefit of moving more after meals. So it's funny, farts are always funny, but if it gets more people to walk after they eat I'm all for it. https://people.com/fart-walk-benefits-what-is-it-type-2-diabetes-8694630#:~:text=Wellness%20influencer%20Mairlyn%20Smith%20has,of%20day%20you%20do%20it XX Join us again soon!

In this part 1 of our 2-part podcast series on Asthma Management we explore a systematic approach to managing patients presenting to the ED with asthma exacerbations. Our discussion will emphasize the critical role of a thorough history and physical examination in effectively stratifying patient risk and guiding treatment/disposition decisions. Additionally, we'll examine the importance of providing comprehensive discharge medications and instructions to mitigate both mortality and morbidity associated with asthma exacerbations. We answer questions such as: which patients, if any, require peak expiratory flow measurements in the ED? Why is it so important to add steroid MDI therapy to oral steroid therapy in patients being discharged from the ED after an asthma exacerbation? What are the most predictive variables to risk stratify patients with asthma exacerbations to help guide treatment and disposition? and many more. Stay tuned for Part 2, where we'll delve deep into the management of the crashing asthmatic.
