Kimberly Anne Coles is Professor of English at the University of Maryland; her first book, Religion, Reform and Women's Writing in Early Modern England, was published with Cambridge University Press in 2008. Her work has been supported by the John W. Kluge Center, the Warburg Institute, and the Folger Shakespeare Library. Today, we are discussing Bad Humor: Race and Religious Essentialism in Early Modern England, which was published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 2022. In Bad Humor, Professor Coles charts how concerns around lineage, religion and nation converged around a pseudoscientific system that confirmed the absolute difference between Protestants and Catholics, guaranteed the noble quality of English blood, and justified English colonial domination. Professor Coles delineates the process whereby religious error, first resident in the body, becomes marked on the skin. Early modern medical theory bound together psyche and soma in mutual influence. By the end of the sixteenth century, there is a general acceptance that the soul's condition, as a consequence of religious belief or its absence, could be manifest in the humoral disposition of the physical body. The history that this book unfolds describes developments in natural philosophy in the early part of the sixteenth century that force a subsequent reconsideration of the interactions of body and soul and that bring medical theory and theological discourse into close, even inextricable, contact. With particular consideration to how these ideas are reflected in texts by Elizabeth Cary, John Donne, Ben Jonson, William Shakespeare, Edmund Spenser, Mary Wroth, and others, Professor Coles reveals how science and religion meet nascent capitalism and colonial endeavor to create a taxonomy of Christians in Black and White. John Yargo recently received his PhD in English literature from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, specializing in the environmental humanities and early modern culture. His articles have been published or are forthcoming in the Journal for Early Modern Culture Studies, Early Theatre, Studies in Philology, and Shakespeare Studies. Learn more about your ad choices. Travels with Squeaky is a podcast for solo women RV-ers, campers and vanlifers. This episode is we speak with Kimberly Anne. Kimberly hit the road in August as a full time vanlifer. She was excited and looking forward to this lifestyle, however, things did not go as she dreamed about. She hit a few bumps along the way—literally hitting her head all the time in her new tiny space. She also had a hard time meeting people and making friends and even had a van fire. But now, three months into her journey, Kimberly is hitting her stride and she's here to share what she learned from her first few months on the road. Travels with Squeaky theme music is Fields Station by Nikole Potulsky. Studies show that holding on to secrets can cause depression and anxiety. And sharing them can be beneficial for your overall well-being.We kinda know this info, but still choose not to share because it feels icky and vulnerable. If you've been with me awhile you know that I often share personal stories from my life, past relationships and career that still make me feel uncomfortable thinking about till this day. In my conversation with Kimberly Anne, she shares one big secret she'd kept to herself for a long time (trigger warning: it's about rape). This traumatic experience had been weighing her down for years until she decided to take ownership of her story and create a new narrative that helped her heal and connect with others who had been in similar situations. Her story is compelling. It gave me the chills. I've never seen anyone turn their pain into power quite like Kimberly Anne has in this podcast episode.Listen to Episode 34 NowIf you are in the process of healing from something, you're not alone. I hope you find comfort in knowing that there are probably many others out there who share a similar experience. Don't be afraid to reach out and connect
The third and final installment of the "White Thaw" series, a group of special episodes with some of host Keith Cohen's favorite deep cuts from the past few years. Parmesan Posse member Ben suggested doing this as a way to show the listeners some great, older songs they might not know since Mom's Spaghetti wasn't started until December 2018! I talk about my personal journey of working out as a non-professional circus aerialist, handstander and contortionist. Welcome to the 6th episode of the Shoutout Saturday Show. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to Kimberly Anne! She’s the first person in the community I did a buddy read with—it was Six of Crows and she kicked my butt, but I did finish and we did bond over our love of Inej. Outside of Booktube Kim works in PR and marketing. She’s one of the friendliest souls you will meet on here, I cannot recommend her content enough! This episode will make a charitable contribution to Black Girls Code Black Girls CODE is devoted to showing the world that black girls can code, and do so much more. By reaching out to the community through workshops and after school programs, Black Girls CODE introduces computer coding lessons to young girls from underrepresented communities in programming languages such as Scratch or Ruby on Rails. Black Girls CODE has set out to prove to the world that girls of every color have the skills to become the programmers of tomorrow. http://www.blackgirlscode.com Contact Kimberly Anne Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjbRrg03k7WReso-65BamJA/videos INSTAGRAM: @kimannereads https://www.instagram.com/kimannereads/ TWITTER: @kimannereads https://twitter.com/kimannereads Contact R.K. Merry Xmas to all of you! Elements of a Dancer.. A combination of old progressive trance dance tunes with a small sprinkling of current clubby numbers and far too many Xtian Edits A very easy, meant to get you off your feet, festive and unashamadely commercial set.. I originally intended to publish the Shanghai Progressions Pt.2 back in September, had staggered the publishing of the uploads in order not to overload anyone but somehow it got lost in-between the cloud and the Chinese firewall. So be it! Lost forever.. Then, life got busy and I had no time to even think about tunes let alone mix anything.. A fortnight ago a friend reminded me that Xmas was approaching and that a new set would be a nice festive gesture.. Here it is my (one day..) cycling buddy! Hope you find it motivating enough to take on a ride and not too commercial for your discerning ears though... I did want something fun and not too heady, one which would nicely fit on a CD for the family to listen to during the holidays. A lot of post-production for the Xtian’s Edits, a few gratuitous, a couple acceptable! Thus, Let’s Dance!! Playlist: 2008 Pjanoo (Original Club Mix) [Xtian Get You Dancing Edit]. Eric Prydz 2016 Goodbye (meHiLove Vocal Remix). Tara Louise & Masoud 2015 Show Me Love (EDX Remix Radio Edit]. Sam Feldt ft. Kimberly Anne 2016 Missing (Extended Mix). Kimberly Anne, Luca Schreiner 2015 Borrow Love (Original Mix). (Me & My Toothbrush vs. Paul Richmond 2015 Uruguay (EDX Radio Mix) [Xtian Take Me Away Edit]. Nora En Pure & Sons of Maria 2015 Insomnia (Calippo Remix) [Xtian Edit]. Faithless & Calippo 2016 Things We Might Have Said (Original Mix). Cari Golden, Reiner Zonnefeld 2016 I Feel For You (2016 Rework). Bob Sinclar, DBN 2015 Destiny(Original Mix). Markus Schulz ft. Delacey 2013 Thinking About You (EDXs Belo Horizonte at Night Remix. Calvin Harris, Ayah Marar 2015 Breathe (Forerunners Remix) [Xtian Light Up Edit]. David Broaders & DenSity FuZion 2009 Downpipe (Original Club Mix) [Xtian Short Rush Edit]. Mark Knight, D. Ramirez, Underworld 2014 Breaking Love (Original Extended Mix) [Xtian Reach Out Soul Edit]. Larrikin 2013 Time is by Your Side (Nigel Good Remix). Aerosoul ft. John Ward 2012 Orchestra (Original Mix) (Xtian Dancer Edit). Matteo Marini Highlights: My personal favourites are "Things We Might Have Said" and "Destiny".. Not to miss! The former one being one of my pick for perfectly produced tune of 2016.. As for the latter, if you like melodic progressive trance, the Markus Schulz tune is one for you.. A blast for the past with Mark Knight’s “Downpipe”, which I had forgotten, thanks Chris! All too easy!! I have a VERY bloated cart of Traxsource therefore will be back fairly soon. A bientôt Joyeux Noël Xtian P.S: have cut a few CD, so if you are on my Xmas list, who knows, you might get one..
Second Quantum of Solace (In the Air CX 134) Refer to previous podcast for an update on my status. I mixed this second Quantum of Solace during an 8 hour flight. The only post-edit is the intro, in many ways unnecessary but I felt like tying the set up to the Quantum World. Furthermore, should you be a fervent follower, you have already endured many a time my love for intros.. Numerous Xtian edits, set mostly in the progressive house, trance space I want to stay in at the moment. And herein included quite of few 2015-2016 tunes, which is a bonus! A bit of sugar, some alternative tracks and quite a few on my personal high-rotation list . Enjoy! I have another quantum on my hard drive, mixed during the return flight. I will post it when I have some time. Some of the tunes featured are on my favourite current list: - “I Need You” from SK1 - “Peace of Mind” and “Counting Down the Days”, not to miss very current trance/progressive gems from A&B. - “My Head is a Jungle” from the Dior advert with Emma Louise a great local vocalist from the indie scene. Playilst: 2016 Intro The Universe of Saltwater [Xtian Edit]. China, A Guy Called Gerald feat Jennifer Neal, Xtian 2015 I Need You (Frankstar vs SK1 Remix) [Xtian What If the Word Edit feat.
