Despite their best intentions, LaKiesha (38) and James (45) have fallen into a cycle of overspending—convincing themselves that wants are needs and that enjoying money now outweighs planning for the future. Their lack of financial foresight has left them without a safety net, and the weight of their debts has even led LaKiesha to file for bankruptcy. Recently, they moved in together; but with that fresh start comes the baggage of their complicated financial pasts. Trust has been tested, and they're being forced to confront their differences in financial values and upbringing. Can they break free from the habits that have kept them stuck? On this episode I speak with Lakiesha and Myra from S & L Foster Family Agency. I speak with them about the process of starting up an agency, the time, and dedication it takes. We also drive into the passion that both Lakiesha and Myra have for the kids in the foster system. Why it's so important to them to have an agency that doesn't just find the kids a bed to sleep it, but provides programs that helps them be as best equipped for society as they can be. We go into some myth busting of stigmas that society has with fostering/adopting kids. We talk about some of the ugly and emotional cases they have seen. How those cases inspired them to know that they are here to help, and serve these kids. S & L will be more then just an agency it will provide their kids with programs and tools they need. We discuss a lot of this programs they plan to put into place, things from a closet, to mentorship, craft nights, and more. If anyone has interest in partnering or volunteering for such programs you can find them IG @sandlffa You can find them on Facebook too S & L Foster Family Agency
