This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Operation Allied Force, the NATO aerial bombing campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War. The air strikes lasted from 24 March 1999 to 10 June 1999.Joining for this episode is retired Lieutenant-Colonel Billie Flynn, who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) for 23 years. In 1984 Flynn was selected to be a pipeliner for the RCAF's new CF-18 Hornet fighter, and ultimately rose in the ranks to become the Commanding Officer of 441 Tactical Fighter Squadron.During his time as Commanding Officer, Colonel Flynn also served as the Commander of Task Force Aviano, the unit of the Canadian Armed Forces that implemented Operation Echo in support of Operation Allied Force; it was there that he led the formation of the "Balkan Rats" and flew combat missions over Kosovo and the former Republic of Yugoslavia. The Task Force Aviano combat unit received Battle Honours from Queen Elizabeth II, the first such distinction for a Canadian fighting unit since World War II.Flynn's 40+ year flying experience includes fighter and test pilot service with the RCAF, the United States Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and NASA. After retiring from the RCAF, Flynn flew as a civilian test pilot for the Eurofighter Typhoon, and later flew as a Senior Test Pilot for the F-35.In this episode you will hear Colonel Flynn's first hand perspective about the RCAF's large fighter force (18 CF-18 jets) which conducted combat operations during Operation Allied Force. He describes the genesis of the "Balkan Rats" and how he and the RCAF fighter force executed on their taskings, and all told flew on 10% of all bombing missions. Flynn also shares his memory of being in the Combined Air Operations Center during the rescue of Vega 31, the F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter (actually an attack aircraft) that was shot down on 27 Match 1999.It's a fascinating first-hand perspective on the RCAF's fighter force during Operation Allied Force. We publish this episode to commemorate and honor their service.Go Bold!

New York Times bestselling author and former special forces officer Brad Taylor is back with a propulsive and topical edge-of-your-seat thriller featuring Pike Logan as he goes head-to-head with Putin's henchmen. To finally end the war between their nations, a rogue Ukranian band of partisans known as the Wolves teams up with members of Russia's military intelligence to assassinate Vladimir Putin. But Putin is aware of the traitors in his midst and assigns the loyal commander of the Russian national guard to root them out. It's a mission Victor Petrov is expected to undertake after he prevents Sweden from joining NATO—by assassinating a deputy minister of foreign affairs. After receiving intelligence about the threat in Sweden, the U.S. sends Pike Logan to identify Victor's target—only for him to get caught in the crossfire between Putin's agents and the Wolves. When the smoke clears, Pike makes no effort to stop the Wolves on their ultimate mission, believing it just, until he discovers that their operation has unimaginable consequences. For Putin is preparing a devastating endgame: activating the Dead Man's Hand nuclear response that will launch Russia's missiles in the event of his death. Olivia has demonstrated through her amazing story the tremendous courage and perseverance it took to overcome the many challenges she has faced through her time in the military. As many of us understand and are aware that it takes emotional strength and courage to talk about mental health issues, especially in the military. Through the traumatic events in her life, she made the decision to speak out about her traumatic military experiences. In doing this she helped many other soldiers understand that they were not alone in their experiences and in the way they feel about them. Olivia is on a mission to help break the mental health stereotype that our society puts on us especially as it comes to the veteran population. Olivia is also the host of the Military Officer's Association of America's Never Stop Serving and Soldier for Life podcast. Robin and I have known each other for years. I met her a few years back as she was initially transitioning out of the Army. At that time, Robin was just starting her comedy career, but it was clear in just those first few times meeting her, she had a gift for making others laugh and was going to go so far. She's now not only showing the world what a successful post-military transition can be, but she is using this skill to demonstrate how laughter can help us in our darkest periods. And she is an Ohio State buckeye like me! In 1994, Robin enlisted in the Ohio National Guard and served as a 92Y Unit Supply Specialist.  She was later commissioned through THE Ohio State University ROTC program as a Quartermaster Officer.  Robin's career highlights include five deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, Company Commander, A Co, 603rd ASB, 3d Combat Aviation Brigade, 3d Infantry Division;  Support Operations Officer, 3d Cavalry Regiment; Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Battalion Commander, 526th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division; and Employment Director, Soldier For Life.  Her awards and decorations include the Airborne, Air Assault, and Pathfinder badges, three Bronze stars,  and the Defense Meritorious Service medal. Robin's new mission is to heal people, organizations, and communities through humor.  She created Best Medicine Brigade to give veteran and military spouse comedians performance opportunities and heal people with humor.  Robin's passion is the applied and therapeutic use of humor for mental health which is why she also facilitates HEAL*ARIOUS, a humor therapy program for veterans.  She is a Level 2 Certified Humor Professional with the Association For Applied and Therapeutic Humor and a comedy boot camp instructor for Armed Services Arts Partnership.
