Lo & Behold Crispy Pork Spareribs Laura Sanfilippo & Sean Raymond Kelley from Lo & Behold Bar Restaurant join Harry Duke and Herlinda Heras on Brew Ha Ha. Lo and Behold has three partner owners, who met while working for others. They thought Healdsburg had space for a casual place, large and spacious, with a great bar. Almost a year and a half ago, they opened Lo and Behold. Sean Kelley grew up with his grandmother's Sunday dinners. He ran kitchens in some prominent restaurants and then went to culinary school at Tante Marie's in San Francisco. He wants his flavors to appear familiar and comfortable, but with extraordinary flavors. The Healdsburg Wine and Food Experience includes spirits for the first time. Tickets are still available for the event. It's all Healdsburg bartenders, pairing “farm to glass.” Her partner Tara has a farm where they grow the herbs and flowers that they use, a nice long list of flavors. Sean has also brought a bunch of appetizers. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Click the logo to visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more info. They thought Healdsburg had space for a casual place, large and spacious, with a great bar. Lo and Behold has a nice selection of Italian Amaros, or Amari, either way, which are dark herbal liqueurs that vary between bitter and sweet. Every one of the bartenders has a special, original concoction for their Healdsburg event. Global Comfort Food Sean describes the restaurant as Global Comfort Food. For example, fried chicken is a winner all over the world. Harry asks what it was like opening a restaurant at the end of a pandemic. Laura thinks it may have been an ideal time. Also, they have been in Healdsburg for a long time and they had a lot of customer loyalty. They also have a nice patio. When people were ready to come back out, there they were. It was hard, but they had already worked through the entire pandemic. This is the first restaurant that the partners have ever owned themselves, after running restaurants for others for a long time. Tomorrow, Friday May 18, from 4-7 PM at Lo and Behold, there is a Healdsburg Wine and Food Experience event. It is a stand-up meet and greet with Healdsburg's best bartenders. The bartenders will be all at their own stations on the big patio.

Blending a variety of genres including, but not limited to, sludge, hardcore and black metal, Sydney metal outfit Lo! come with a fearsome reputation. Not in the way you might expect, but more a reputation built around their intense and captivating live performances that ooze venomous intent with every note struck in anger. With the touring circuit opening up again, Australia's premiere metal festival Blacken Open Air is set to return to the annual calendar, with the three day metal feast in the Red Centre of Australia set to decimate the nation from July 29 to August 1.Lo! are just one of many metal bands making the trek into the unknown, with frontman Sam Dillon stopping in to HEAVY HQ to talk about the show."We're very excited,” he enthused. “I would say 10, 10.1... the fact that we get to go to a scene that's so healthy at the moment because of COVID it's forcing everyone to look inward and be patriotic for the right reasons about their scene, but also get to do it under that banner and backdrop of the stars in the red centre and hopefully get to meet a couple of the local elders and see that scene for what it is. I think this is a fantastic opportunity to have a great time and meet some true blue fans."In the full interview, Sam talks about the other bands on the bill, who he is most looking forward to, the pressures of playing in multiple bands at the festival, survival tips on how to get through, work on the band's fourth album and what to expect, touring plans and more.

Lo and Behold: A Christmas Story by Sally Breeze GreenLo and Behold came into being as the result of being awakened during the night and feeling nudged by the Holy Spirit to write down what came to me. The story simply wrote itself as it flowed out of my pen, and I was amazed at the result! The name came from my father-in-law, telling me with tongue in cheek Lo and Behold were the two most famous angels in Scripture since it was written many times: "Lo, the angel of the Lord" and "Behold, the angel of the Lord."I dedicate this book in his memory and in honor of my grandchildren.Sally Breeze Green holds a Certificate in Spiritual Formation from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. She has served most of her adult life working in the local church setting in various capacities. She has served as a ruling elder for several tours of service at First Presbyterian Church in Midland, Texas, in the area of prayer ministry, which is her first love. She retired from eldership in mid-2019 to care for her husband in his ill health. She has devoted much time since then to writing, which is her second love - from past church newspaper articles over many years to authoring her own spiritual journey, In Search of Grace; a study guide on prayer, In Quest of Prayer; and several studies about the Christian life. Her most recent effort was Clef Notes, a self published gathering of encouraging letters written to the Sanctuary Choir during her tenure as choir chaplain for twelve years.Lo and Behold was adapted as a musical and presented in her home church in 1993 (before publication) and updated for presentation at Christmas in 2020.She and her husband were engaged in their petroleum engineering firm for over forty years until their retirement in 2019. They shared nearly 65 years of marriage together this December but sadly, he passed away in June of this year. She remains devoted to her two sons and spouses, five grandchildren and spouses, and two great-grandchildren. No longer able to sing with the Sanctuary Choir (member since 1979), she upholds them from the congregational pew!https://www.amazon.com/Behold-Christmas-Sally-Breeze-Green/dp/1645695573http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/sbgreenec.mp3

Lo and behold, we are talking psychedelic plant medicine!Psychedelics received in recent years a scientific renaissance. Reputable institutes like Johns Hopkins or the Imperial College London are conducting studies on substances like Psilocybin and Ayahuasca, showing promising results in treating addictions, trauma, and depression. However, when talking about psychedelics, you quickly enter a rabbit hole that leads from science to philosophical questions and the esoteric. Is the self just an illusion? Where does our consciousness come from? Is there really a god molecule? My discussion with Jonathan de Potter touches on a lot of these topics. For show notes and more information, visit Life-Sparring.com/podcast

Beep. Boop. Borp. Thank you for listening to episode 41 of the Documenteers! September is Herzog month on the podcast and for our third week Bob Sham and Stuart Von discuss Werner Herzog's relatively dense 2016 doc on technology, "Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World". The film is streamable now on Netflix. We break this film down and there's a lot to unpack. If you have a robot fetish, then this movie is straight up pornographic. Robot 8 will steal your heart and get you horny. That's just one thing. We get into the birth of the internet, an eccentric weirdo on a houseboat, solar flares, Man to bot love, tech sickness, morbid trolling, ho-downs, Hacking, Fortnite, the tech apocalypse, robot dreams, Gaming addiction, screen-savers, Emo Elon Musk, Mars, Monks tweeting, Herzog-isms, and tech-telepathy just to name a few. Bob and Stuart handle it like they always do, with plenty of nonsensical jokes that ultimately deflect our fear of an ever changing technological environment that we understand less and less everyday. Don't kill us, robots. Love us. Love us and Keep on Doccin'®.

Herzog leads viewers on a journey through a series of provocative conversations that reveal the ways in which the online world has transformed how virtually everything in the real world works - from business to education, space travel to healthcare, and the very heart of how we conduct our personal relationships.Kristina Wong was recently featured in the New York Times’ Off Color series. She is a performance artist, comedian and writer who has created five solo shows and one ensemble play that have toured across North America and the UK. Her most notable touring show– “Wong Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” looked at the high rates of depression and suicide among Asian American women and toured dozens of venues across the United States since 2006. She’s been a commentator for American Public Media’s Marketplace, PBS, Jezebel, xoJane, Playgirl Magazine, Huffington Post and a guest on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, Al Jazeera’s “The Stream,” and AM Tonight on Fusion TV. She’s been awarded residencies from the MacDowell Colony, New York Theater Workshop, Ojai Playwrights Festival, Montalvo Center for the Arts, Hermitage, and Atlantic Center for the Arts.On television, she’s been on General Hospital, Nickelodeon’s “Nicky Ricky Dicky and Dawn,” and Myx TV’s “I’m Asian American and Want Reparations for Yellow Fever.” Her newest solo show “The Wong Street Journal” navigates White Privilege as an Asian American “Mzungu” in East Africa. She spent a month in Northern Uganda recording a hit rap album “Mzungu Price” with local rappers and doing research for that show. She has taught at Cal Arts in the MFA Creative Writing Program and twice given the commencement speech at UCLA, her alma mater.Follow us on:Twitter: @supdocpodcastInstagram: @supdocpodcastFacebook: @supdocpodcastsign up for our mailing listAnd you can show your support to Sup Doc by donating on Patreon.

Meanwhile Danny fills us in on two new release which he originally saw at the London Film Festival. The disarmingly sincere Ethel and Ernest (he went in scornful, he came out tearful) and Werner Herzogs latest doc Lo and Behold, which sees the German Auteur successfully interviewing people weirder than him. Plus they wonder if there has ever been a more creatively daring premise than the one behind the upcoming animation The Boss Baby, lament how Hollywood sexism is preventing us from getting more Hilary Swank films and learn about the role Ice Cube was born to play. Filmmaker and documentarian Werner Herzog continues his fascination with the current state of the planet Earth and its inhabitants with Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World, which seeks to show how the internet has changed the way human beings live and perceive one another, with advancements in technology that has been of great benefit to us all, while at the same time been a source of pain and angst for many others. Directing and narrating the piece, Herzog offers these reveries, these "daydreams and musings", in bite-sized vignettes, starting with the origin of the internet in a small laboratory on the UCLA campus in 1969 (the first transmission, meant to transmit the word "L-O-G" to another computer at Stanford University but crashed after the first two letters, forms the inspiration of the film's title), all the way to the possible future in potential settlements in space beyond Earth.

The show opens this week with a conversation about director Werner Herzog’s very unique perspective on life. Following a shout out to one of Dave’s favorite YouTubers and a discussion about Evan’s book, Your ‘80s Movie Guide to Better Living, the guys dig into the week’s new releases. First up is Kris, who discusses Herzog’s documentary LO AND BEHOLD REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD (at 9:09). The filmmaker is more aware of his personal brand, so he features himself prominently in it, but it’s still a fascinating piece about the integration between humans and machines. Next, Evan reviews WAR DOGS (at 19:32). Even though it obviously rips off of GOODFELLAS, the movie is worth seeing because it’s funny, has great music, and showcases a tremendous lead performance by Jonah Hill. Lastly, Kris concludes with KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS (at 36:20), which captivates with its stop motion animation and its take on ancient religion. Every place the characters go in the film and everything they do is enjoyable to watch, even if you’re aware the journey that they’re on.
