Episode #71. I am thrilled to be joined by Alicia Menendez. Alicia anchors MSNBC's “American Voices with Alicia Menendez” Saturday and Sunday nights. She is also the author of “The Likeability Trap” and host of the “Latina to Latina” podcast. Alicia joined MSNBC in October 2019. Prior to joining the network, Menendez served as a correspondent on “Amanpour & Company” on PBS and formerly hosted a nightly news and pop culture show on Fusion called “Alicia Menendez Tonight” Her reporting and interviews have appeared on ABC News, Bustle, FusionTV, PBS and Vice News. Born and raised in New Jersey, Alicia has been called “Ms. Millenial” by “The Washington Post”, “journalism's new gladiator” by Elle, and a “content queen” by Marie Claire. This conversation is one of my favorites. Alicia is so open about her experience finding the work that she does today, she shares her struggle in making the decision to pivot away from her original plans of law school and public service and following a different path. We also discuss her book and why if we had to choose between success and likability, we should choose success because likability is never guaranteed. She shares her own experience on wanting to be liked and what she found out during the research for her book. As someone who has always wanted to be liked, this conversation really resonated with me. Produced by KSQD 90.7FM Note: Two days before the show, President Biden appointed two new members to the Post Office's Board of Governors but, as Porter McConnell points out, Louis DeJoy could still remain as Postmaster General. “Be Bold America!” Sunday, November 21 2021 at 5:00pm (PT) This is not what Ben Franklin had in mind. First Class mail is now moving more slowly than the 1970s. Post Master General, Louis DeJoy, launched his slow down plan on October 1. Less planes; more ground transportation. Yet, DeJoy raised postal rates for his slower service and, maybe not too surprisingly, is unapologetic about his attempts to undermine the Post Office. If that wasn't enough, the FBI is even investigating Mr. DeJoy in connection with past (alleged) political fundraising to the Trump campaign. Interview Guest: Porter McConnell is the cofounder of “Save The Post Office Coalition” and she is the campaign director for Take on Wall Street. She previously ran the Financial Transparency Coalition, a global network of civil society, governments, and experts working to stop illicit financial flows out of developing countries. Porter has a Master's in Public Policy from the University of Michigan and a B.A. from Williams College. She has contributed policy analysis to media outlets including Vox, National Public Radio, MarketWatch, The Guardian, American Banker, Reuters AlertNet, Daily Nation Kenya, EU Observer, and Fusion TV.

Chase Geiser is joined by Eric Jackman. Eric Jackman is, without a doubt, the politically sharpest and funniest Donald Trump impersonator on the planet. His razor-sharp wit, combined with his up-to-the-minute grasp and in-depth knowledge of real political issues and popular culture put him miles ahead of other Trump impersonators. With Donald Trump's voice and mannerisms, without rehearsal, at any time, Jackman is able to stream a hilarious Trumpian monologue that combines politics, pop culture, and social commentary to the delight of anyone within earshot. Simply engage him on any topic, and you'll be treated to smart, side-splitting Trumpian oration. Jackman, around home in Rindge NH, had been honing his Trump impersonation for years, among other comedic endeavors. He finally brought it into public view with a very big splash beginning in 2016, initially by turning up at Donald Trump rallies during the US presidential primary campaign. Sure enough, the president-to-be noticed Jackman, called him out, and had a great laugh with him. Suddenly, Jackman found himself being lauded by press from across the USA and Europe, and acclaimed as among the best Trump impersonators in the world by CBS News. See the Press page for a sampling. Jackman began fielding requests to appear as Trump in comedy venues, on local talk shows, at mock debates, and at other events, garnering further press attention and acclaim. He also began accepting invitations to appear as Trump at corporate and other private events. Jackman is now heard as the voice of Trump for Fusion TV's animated shorts and appears on the show The Feed. His impersonation of Trump magnifies the essential qualities of Trump, and rings true. This creates great appeal to pro-Trump, anti-Trump, and Trump-neutral listeners, each agreeing that Jackman reflects Trump's essence with remarkable accuracy. A true student of politics and pop culture, Jackman and his brother Mike also host an irregularly published podcast called Jackman Radio on which they interview guests and discuss the latest topics breaking in the American public consciousness. Jackman Radio launched its first live, public event in March, 2018. Jackman makes it a point to study politicians closely and has made the effort to meet and speak with many, a sampling of whom can be seen on the Photos page. If you're looking for a hilarious, unique comedy and entertainment experience for your next event, look no further than Eric Jackman as President Trump! Having the uncanny ability to improvise on the spot or learn an entire speech, Jackman can customize the Donald for all audiences, persuasions and parties. With the distinction of being one of the only impersonators photographed with the real Trump (and getting the Donald's thumbs up), he continues to appear on television and news programs around the world, and perform at venues across America. Alicia Menendez is an MSNBC anchor and host of the Latina to Latina podcast. Dubbed "Ms. Millennial" by The Washington Post, "journalism's new gladiator" by Elle, and a "content queen" by Marie Claire, her interviews and reporting have appeared on ABC News, Bustle, FusionTV, PBS and Vice News. In this episode of IN PURSUIT, she and host Amy Elisa dig into how women, and sometimes men as well, struggle to balance appearing to be nice but not too nice, successful but not too successful, assertive but not too much. Being “likable” proves to be a limiting label. Alicia and Amy Elisa cover how obsessing about being likable can affect your prospects of promotion, salary negotiations, and even everyday manager-employee dynamics.

Usama Siddiquee (formerly known by his stage name “Usama Bin Laughin”) is completely comfortable with writing a bio about himself in third person. His absolute ease should already be impressing you by now. Usama Siddiquee is a Bengali-American stand-up comedian and actor based in New York. He’s the kind of comic you want to follow right now, so you can totally gloat to your friends about how you were totally into him before he got huge. And then they’ll get really jealous of your impeccable foresight and superior taste. His act is an energetic (bordering on frenetic) and intelligent (bordering on genius) romp through his own life experiences. Family! Friends! Sex! Religion! Sex with religious friends! It’s all there, and Usama slings jokes on these topics and more with rapid-fire charisma and hilarity. And if you thought that last paragraph was self-serving, here is a shameless list of Usama’s achievements. He most recently traveled to Montreal as one of the New Faces at Just For Laughs in 2018. Bassem Youssef is the political satirist described as the "Jon Stewart" of Egypt and host of Fusion TV's Democracy Handbook with Bassem Youssef. Today he shares how he went from being a doctor to the host of the most popular show in the history of Arab-language television during one of the most tumultuous chapters in Egypt’s history. He talks about the Egyptian military's absurd claim that they had invented an "AIDS curing machine" and the time he had to explain to government interrogators why people were laughing at his show. He also discusses his disappointment at many Egyptian protesters who he says simply traded Islamist fascism for military fascism, he reveals some of the tensest moments behind the scenes of his show, and remembers the heartbreaking day he fled Egypt for good. Plus, Bassem Youssef says he's feeling a disturbing degree of de ja vu as he covers the presidency of Donald Trump. I can't lie about it, one of the reasons I first got to know Elise Roedenbeck is because her Twitter bio said something to the effect of "I touched Elvis Costello once." Whaaaaat? A Peruvian-American who grew up in Miami, came to New York, and found her way back down to South Beach, Elise talks about her beginnings in comedy, her rockin' high school experiences, and so, so much more.
