Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Mitch Moore, who is a freelance writer. Mitch likes to solve the Sunday and Monday crossword puzzles. Both he and Frank try to solve the Monday puzzle as fast as possible. Frank has broken the five-minute barrier but Mitch has yet to go “sub 5.” Mitch and his wife went to Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park. They spent several days at Yellowstone. Frank and his wife would like to go back and spend more than a day at Yellowstone. Frank and Jere visited Tom Kent, one of Frank's radio mentors, in Cleveland on the day after the eclipse in April. Tom died of cancer in June. On Tom's birthday in August, hundreds of his Facebook friends wished him a happy birthday, obviously unaware that he had died. Jere attempted to take two grandsons to McKay's used bookstore but it happened to be the same day as the store's anniversary. The store was overrun with fans trying to win prizes by driving to all five McKay's stores in North Carolina and Tennessee. Mitch points out that the store used to be known as McKay Books and that in the South, people tend to add an S to store names like Kroger, Walmart, and others. Mitch recently finished the first draft of a book. He set the book in rural Arkansas during the same time period that he was growing up there. Frank had a poster printed using the image of an East Tennessee PBS monthly program guide that included him among some actual celebrities. Every time Frank buys a package of 700 coffee filters, he wonders if he will be able to use them all. The Tennessee Valley Fair asked Frank and Becca James to emcee the Fair Food Throwdown on Saturday, September 7 and the Sweet Goodness Doughnut Challenge on Thursday, September 12, 2024. Frank used bonus points to get a free Frappuccino but rather than drink it, he saved it in the freezer. A couple of weeks later he bought a Frappuccino to earn 75 bonus points. He put it in the freezer to save it for another day and then realized the first one was still there. Frank's grandson Artie chastised him for not saying “excuse me” after a gastrointestinal outburst. Frank started saying “Pardon me boys, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo” every time it happened again. Frank explained the reference, which made Artie want to watch The Glenn Miller Story starring James Stewart. Frank will be checking in the audience members at Marble City Opera's “Tenors, Tuxedos, and Stalactites” concert on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The gate opens at 4:00 p.m. and the one-hour concert starts at 5:00 p.m. Get tickets at https://www.marblecityopera.com/tickets before they sell out. Mitch is the drummer in an ‘80s cover band called Vinyl Tap. The band will perform at Ale' Rae's, 937 N. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Mitch Moore, who is a freelance writer. Frank met someone named Duran who posts reaction videos on YouTube. Mitch suggests that Duran record his reaction to the Frank & Friends Show. Frank is wearing a shirt that he hasn't worn in a couple of years. A news anchor once told Frank that he doesn't tuck in his shirt behind the desk so that he can pull on the shirttails before going on-air. A member of a military honor guard suggested that Frank try using shirt garters. Mitch has an issue with graduation ceremonies for kindergarten or preschool. At the preschool graduation for Frank's grandkids, the students go down the slide in the playground when their name is called. Frank points out that “Dads & Grads” sales make sense in the North where graduations often coincide with Father's Day weekend. In the South we should have “Moms & Grads” but that doesn't rhyme. Frank noticed that his Apple products often try to autocorrect plural words into possessive words like when he types the title of Marble City Opera's upcoming production The Doctor and the Devils. Find tickets and information at https://www.marblecityopera.com/tickets Frank's pool is so green that Mitch thinks he's still celebrating St. Patrick's Day. When Frank went to the pool supply store to buy algaecide, the clerk asked for his phone number. Instead of his real number, Frank said, “867-5309.” Mitch recently rewatched the movie Twister and wonders about the villain played by Cary Elwes. Mitch thinks the writers gave him a comeuppance more severe than he deserved. Frank was embarrassed at the Apple Store when his debit card was declined, even though he had put enough money in the account. The bank texted Frank to make sure the purchase was legitimate but the card was still declined. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Mitch Moore, who is a freelance writer. They are using Frank & Friends Show pint glasses for the first time. Mitch thought Mo the tortoise was ceramic but Frank urges him to watch episode 0019 at https://youtu.be/_LmUlhl7Kdk for the whole story. Frank and Mitch are not offended by meat but Frank's friend Bean does not eat meat from the types of animals he has owned as pets. Mitch makes animal noises to cats and dogs. Frank asks if he talks to all the animals like Doctor Dolittle. Frank and his wife Jere sent a metal detector as a birthday gift to their ten-year-old grandson Artie. It didn't work properly and Frank was asked to send a return code, which he had never done before. Metal detectors are associated with old men who probably wish they had a metal detector when they were ten. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Frank met Ricky while hosting the Fair Food Throwdown at the Tennessee Valley Fair and recording a YouTube video that you can watch here: https://youtu.be/rFrvhW30-Bw Mitch often solves the New York Times Crossword Puzzle. Frank has a solving streak of over 2,100 consecutive days. A glitch in the crossword app caused Frank's streak to be broken even though he correctly solved the puzzle on time. Jere told him how to contact the company to get his streak reinstated. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Mitch Moore, who is a freelance writer. Mitch watched his previous episode and wanted to make some adjustments. Mitch thinks that Frank & Friends sounds like Frankenfriends. Mitch asks Frank about the process of writing questions for Tennessee Scholars' Bowl. When Frank occasionally gets a song stuck in his head, it's often the Schaefer Beer jingle that he heard on New York Mets broadcasts as a child. His grandmother gave him a Ballantine beer clock for his bedroom. Mitch doesn't like lemons in his water. Frank might use the lemon to clean his fingers at the table. He wishes restaurants offered finger bowls and hot towels. Mitch thinks the cups for water at fast food restaurants are too small especially compared to the huge cups for soda. Frank has learned to let the water run so that it doesn't have the tint of fruit punch or lemonade. Frank thinks restaurants that serve spicy food should also serve milk. Frank is pictured in the March issue of VIP Knoxville. The magazine covered Marble City Opera's fundraiser that Frank emceed. On April 13, Frank and Heather Waliga will emcee the Casino Royale fundraiser for InterFaith Health Center. On April 19, Frank will emcee the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame Awards Gala, which is a fundraiser for Friends of Literacy. Frank posts his “selfies for the wardrobe department” on Facebook each day that a new episode of Scholars' Bowl airs. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Mitch Moore, who is a freelance writer. Frank saw Mitch in two plays at Flying Anvil Theatre. Mitch is also in a band called Vinyl Tap. Frank enjoyed Mitch's YouTube series, “State of Franklin,” which can be viewed here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-Tj30IQQQv9XbaT3cLnaMVYSZE6oeQDG&si=Yzx57FAoCzOLpWfT Frank met a doctor who thought it cost money to subscribe to YouTube channels. YouTube uses the word “subscribe” the same way Instagram uses the word “follow.” Please subscribe to the Frank & Friends Show on YouTube for free. Mitch and Frank are equally passionate about emphasizing that there is only one S in “Daylight Saving Time.” Frank's best time change experience happened when he and his friend Bean went on a business trip from Los Angeles to Lake Havasu City on the weekend that Daylight Saving Time started. Frank only had to change the clocks on his oven and microwave. He wonders if his next microwave will know the time and other information by being connected to the “internet of things.” This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Frank enjoyed Mitch's comedy web series “State of Franklin.” In the show, Ben Franklin time-travels to the home of Mitch's character. In addition to acting in the show, Mitch wrote, directed, and edited the episodes. Mitch has done stand-up comedy but finds improv to be daunting. Mitch was the middler on a bill at the Funny Bone in Knoxville when an up-and-coming Drew Carey was the headliner. The club owner fired Drew after three nights and replaced him with Ron White. Frank does improv and finds stand-up to be challenging. Frank did stand-up in a contest called Host with the Most. He prepared by going to several open-mic nights to polish his material. Frank also sold the most tickets to the contest in order to help him win. Frank Murphy is on the podcast porch while it is snowing in Knoxville for the first time in 385 days. Frank has always disliked snow but now finds it more bearable because he can work from home instead of driving in it. Frank's big break in radio came when newscaster David Haines asked Frank to read the snow closing announcements on WAVA during the morning show. Frank wonders why most winter songs like “Winter Wonderland” and “A Marshmallow World” get lumped in with Christmas songs and get virtually no airplay after Christmas Day. Some of the students from Science Hill High School commented on Frank's ties during an episode of Tennessee Scholars' Bowl. Before each episode, Frank takes a “selfie for the wardrobe department.” Frank's wife Jere is the “wardrobe department.” Tennessee Scholars' Bowl airs weekdays at 5:30 p.m. on East Tennessee PBS. Frank and Jere went to dinner with Jere's sister and her husband at Ristorante DellaSantina in Sevierville. He saw local actor Mitch Moore at the restaurant and invited him to be on the podcast. Frank enjoyed a s'mores old fashioned before his pasta dinner. Frank and Jere traveled to Northern Virginia to see family members. Frank and his sisters visited his daughter Meaghan's art studio to see some of the paintings and prints she has for sale. See Meaghan's artwork at https://instagram.com/mdecelleart/ One of the other artist's in the same studio complex as Meaghan is a surrealist who includes a lot of skulls in his work. Frank asked if he knew of the Body Farm. The artist said yes and that he would like to walk off into the snow when it's time for him to die. Frank had the idea to pour bacon grease onto a tree stump in the hope that birds and chipmunks would gnaw on the stump to use it like a suet feeder. Frank has twice forgotten to retrieve the frying pan from the stump. He also buries coffee grounds and eggshells in various spots around the yard. When Frank and Jere went to a coffee shop on Sunday, the barista accidentally shut down the register after taking Jere's order but before taking Frank's order. The barista was able to make Frank's latte by the time the register restarted. Frank and Jere ordered tuna salad sandwiches at a restaurant known for its bread. Frank was surprised that a full order consisted of two sandwiches. He and Jere both asked for no onions. Jere's sandwich had onions but no tuna. A technician from the HVAC company told Frank to reorder box-style filters. He also told Frank that he recommends box filters for all his elderly customers. Frank resisted the temptation to correct the spelling and grammar on the report from a plumber who fixed a pipe under the sink. We pre-recorded today's conversation via Zoom to learn the details about the COVID-19 mass vaccination site at Shenandoah University with Mitch Moore, SU's senior vice-president. Mitch explained the partnership between the university, Lord Fairfax Health District and Valley Health. We talked about the processes in place for distributing the vaccine and the logistics to pull the entire thing together. This clinic is the largest of the four clinics in partnership with Valley Health and opened in mid-January. They vaccinate between 1500-2500 people per day getting them out the door in many cases in less than 30 minutes. Post-shot patients are required to wait at least 15 minutes before leaving the site and are treated to live music and in some cases able to watch the various sports teams during their practice. We also talked about how James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center was practically built for administering mass vaccinations. The 77,000-square-foot indoor athletic facility is the largest space within 70 miles of Winchester. It serves the university's 22 athletics teams, the entire university community, and the local and regional communities. It also serves as the location for the university's saliva-based surveillance testing program. Appointments are made through Valley Health - which has distributed more than 30,000 doses throughout their four clinics. You can get details about an appointment here: https://www.valleyhealthlink.com/patients-visitors/coronavirus-covid-19-updates/covid-19-vaccinations/ For questions about the vaccination process at Shenandoah University, visit the FAQ page on their website: https://www.su.edu/covid/community-vaccination-frequently-asked-questions/

We pre-recorded our conversation today over Zoom with Robbie Kidd, Shenandoah University professor and Chair of Biopharmaceutical Sciences to talk about Shenandoah University's Pooled Saliva Testing for Novel Coronavirus that will allow the school to expand its surveillance testing. Shenandoah University is conducting its own SARS-CoV-2 surveillance testing through the use of pooled saliva samples, making it only one of a handful of universities in the country to do so. The university has been doing surveillance testing for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, since the start of the academic year, beginning with the testing of incoming residential and commuter undergraduate students and continuing last month with select undergraduate populations. Now, through Shenandoah University's Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy, the university is expanding its SARS-CoV-2 surveillance testing program for asymptomatic individuals through pooled saliva samples, especially in high-contact populations such as student-athletes, residential students and conservatory students. Shenandoah joins the likes of Stanford and Syracuse universities in conducting pooled saliva testing. Robbie walked me through how the tests are conducted and what happens if there is a positive result on one of the pooled tests. This will ensure a higher degree of safety on SU's campus for students and faculty which I discussed with Mitch Moore in early August 2020. Saliva is a less-expensive, non-invasive, and safer sample collection method compared to nasopharyngeal swabs. Viral loads are also higher in saliva compared to nasal swabs. Shenandoah University performed its first round of surveillance testing using pooled saliva the week of Sept. 14. To date, Shenandoah has tested more than 800 students using this method, and more than 2,000 students total (saliva and nasopharyngeal combined). Surveillance testing is used to monitor for the incidence and prevalence of a community- or population-level occurrence of COVID-19, such as an outbreak. This involves randomly sampling asymptomatic individuals. The entire process is contactless, takes fewer than five minutes to complete, and is free of charge. Testing results can be returned in as few as six hours. Robbie estimated that 40-45% of those infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus are asymptomatic, yet most are still infectious and can spread the virus to others. The goal(s) of the program are to identify the asymptomatic carriers, refer them for diagnostic testing, isolate them to prevent the spread of the virus, and to take care of these individuals while they convalesce. This will ultimately help keep Shenandoah University and the surrounding community safe during this pandemic. Shenandoah can currently test 320 students, faculty or staff each week, and expects to increase that number significantly in the weeks ahead.

There’s been 10 straight days of Short Time Shots. This is National Podcast Post Month, which is kinda like National Novel Writing Month. NaPodPoMo as compared to NaNoWriMo. The goal is to put out a podcast a day for the month of November. This is part of the reason Short Time Shots came back. The season’s here, it started on November 1 and there’s wrestling news virtually every day. What’s going to make this suck is Thanksgiving, but I’ll figure something out. This is Short Time Shots, a mostly daily look at the scores in more from the world of wrestling, I’m sore from the trampoline park, I’m installing flooring now in the studio, and most importantly, I’m your soundtrack, Jason Bryant. Dual Meets: No. 1 Penn State extended its win streak to 60 in a row with a 45-0 shutout of Navy in front of a sold out crowd at Rec Hall. Penn State picked up six bonus victories, including falls from Mark Hall at 174 pounds and Anthony Cassar at heavyweight. As far as ranked wins go, top-ranked Vincenzo Joseph teched No. 11 Tanner Skidgel at 165, while Hall decked Spencer Carey in just under a minute. It was the 49th straight sellout at home for Penn State. The 60 in a row is the eighth-longest dual meet win streak in college wrestling history. It’s the fifth longest in major college wrestling history. The three longest active streaks in college wrestling are Grand View’s 76 in a row in the NAIA, St. Cloud State’s 51 in a row in Division II, which is just three away from tying their own Division II record and Penn State’s 60 in Division I. Ohio State debuted their new arena with some style as the third-ranked Buckeyes chopped down Stanford 29-6 in Columbus. The Covelli Center was abuzz as Ohio State won nine out of 10 bouts, including Luke Pletcher’s cardiac win over Stanford freshman Real Woods in sudden victory at 141. At 157, Elijah Cleary recovered from being rode for about 15 minutes to rally to force sudden victory and beat Tyler Eischens. Stanford’s only win came by fall at 165 as Shane Griffith stuck Ethan Smith. Kollin Moore went Hulk Smash on Nathan Traxler. In the first Mound on the Mat dual held at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park, No. 11 Virginia Tech got a major decision at heavyweight to push past No. 21 Northwestern 21-18. John Borst’s major decision over Jack Heyob closed out the dual, which was a 5-5 split between the teams. Northwestern’s Sebastian Rivera, a two-time All-American at 125, was up at 133 and majored Collin Gerardi 13-4 as the dual went back and forth but bonus points was also the theme as six of the 10 bouts had bonus wins. Mitch Moore went yard after pinning Jack Tolin at 141 pounds, but Yahya Thomas of Northwestern fired right back with a major over Brent Moore at 149. Northwestern’s Ryan Deakin and Virginia Tech’s David McFadden traded majors at 157 and 165. Hunter Bolen earned a huge major decision over Jack Jessen at 184. Lucas Davison, fresh off a Junior world silver, stopped Stan Smeltzler 5-3 at 197 to give the Wildcats their last lead. Borstyman then finished it off for the Hokies on a sunny and mild November afternoon. Play Ball! Army West Point went 2-0 at the inaugural Chattanooga Duals. The Black Knights beat host Chattanooga 18-12 as Alex Hopkins and Bobby Heald closed out the Mocs with wins at 197 and 285, while it was the opposite against Illinois as the Black Knights built a 19-6 lead after seven matches and cruised. Illinois beat host Chattanooga 22-10. Campbell evened its record at 1-1 with a 24-16 win over host Ohio on Sunday. At 133 pounds, the top matchup of the day saw Mario Guillen of Ohio top Noah Gonser of Campbell. Matthew Dallara of Campbell picked up a solid win over Zac Carson at 157, while Andrew Morgan picked up another major decision at 184. My wife and I started a re-watch of sorts with The Office last night, so we close out the dual portion of the episode with the Electric City Duals, hosted by Scranton. The host Royals went 4-0 and beat Middlesex Community College 45-3, Oneonta State 19-16, Rowan College of Gloucester, which used to be known as Gloucester County, 25-24, and Lackawanna College 35-18. Toby, NO! Tournaments: Top notes from the DefenseSoap/Journeymen Collegiate Classic were Dom Demas of Oklahoma pinning Nebraska’s Chad Red at 141, Arizona State’s Josh Maruca lost three times on the day to finish sixth in his pool at 149, the pool was won by Nebraska’s Colin Purinton, who’s like a 10th year senior. This guy has been around forever, but he wrestled well. Isaiah White of Nebraska beat Josh Shields of Arizona State 6-1 in a battle of All-Americans at 165 pounds. All-American Jordan Kutler of Lehigh beat All-American Mikey Labriola of Nebraska 4-1 to claim the title at 174 in Pool A. At 184 pounds, a late score by returning national champion Zahid Valencia lifted him to his pool title over Nebraska All-American Taylor Venz and Utah Valley heavyweight Tate Orndorff probably had the best day, beating All-Americans Tanner Hall of Arizona State and Jordan Wood of Lehigh to claim the A bracket at 285 pounds. The big result at the Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open at Binghamton was Lou DePrez of the host squad knocking off All-American Ben Darmstadt of Cornell, who was returning to the mats after a year away due to injury - and coming down a weight in the process. Harold Nichols Cyclone Open: Nine of the 10 titles were won by athletes from schools in the state of Iowa. Iowa State had four champs, as did Northern Iowa. Grand View also had an individual champion - all of that from the open division. The one non-Iowa school to pick up a title was Drew Scharenbrock at 157 - he’s from Wisconsin. Among the better finals, Northern Iowa’s Max Thomsen knocked off Iowa State’s Jarrett Degan 12-7 at 149 in a battle of All-Americans. Bryce Steiert’s move up to 174 has been so far so good for UNI. Steiert beat Iowa State’s Marcus Coleman 6-0 in the finals there. The move up was also good for UNI’s Taylor Lujan, who defeated Sam Colbray of Iowa State 7-5 in the finals at 184. Grand View’s Tyree Sutton beat Northern Iowa’s Tyrell Gordon 3-1 in the finals to give the NAIA a champ at the event at 197. Some solid Arizona State true freshmen won titles - Nick Raimo at 125, Trey Munoz at 174 and Cohlton Schultz at heavyweight. Three notable titles were won by Northern Colorado Bears: Mosha Schwartz at 133, Andrew Alirez at 149 and Alan Clothier at 184. Last week, we told you about Boise State alum Ben VomBaur wrestling with his sons, Will and Vance at the Cowboy Open. Well, he did most of that again, wrestling with his son Will at the event. This time, they both took third. VomBaur was a two-time All-American at Boise State in 2002 and 2003. So he’s close to 40. Cleveland State won six titles at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open, with the most notable coming at 141 pounds as Evan Cheek knocked off Drew Mattin of Michigan in the semifinals and then beat younger brother Cole Mattin in the finals. Ohio State won three weights as Carson Kharchla, Rocky Jordan and Gavin Hoffman won their weights. The only non-Ohio State or Cleveland State champion was Mercyhurst heavyweight Jacob Robb. On the women’s side, Emmanuel captured six titles at the East Stroudsburg Open, while first-year Presbyterian won three weights. Bakersfield College won California’s Southeast Conference tournament, outdistancing second-place West Hills. YOU GET NOTHING. Just like Weaver in Wheel of Fish. Yes, I saw Weird Al Yankovic live back in August at the Minnesota State Fair. And that’s a UHF reference. Today, we’re going to teach poodles how to fly. FROM THE DWN: In many situations during the season, much of what you hear about in the scores above will be in the daily wrestling newsletter, so I won’t repeat items that are included here that I’ve mentioned above. The Mankato Free Press follows past Division II national champion Jason Rhoten from Minnesota State-Mankato as he’s hunting elk in Montana. Omaha.com with the biggest banner ad I’ve ever seen. But below that is a feature from Gene Schinzel on the Huskers wrestling lineup this season as the team looks to butcher the Emeril Lagase phrase by taking it up a notch. It’s like the guy in the business meeting who thinks he’s big on Emeril and goes, BOOM, take it to the next level. What up Nate Schy! It was in yesterday’s newsletter, but I’ll mention it again here as Tim Hands of FivePointMove.com liked his chat with Minnesota Storm Greco-Roman coach Dan Chandler so much, that he posted
It's Short Time Shots for November 2, 2019! In Duals:•Fueled by victories from B.C. The Hokies won the last four matches of the dual, which included a forfeit at 133 and a 26-second fall by Mitch Moore at 141 pounds to close out the win. •No. 24 Virginia went 2-0, beating Maryland 34-6 and Division III Southern Virginia 50-3. Maryland picked up the first win of the Alex Clemsen era with a win over Southern Virginia 42-6. Of note for people back home, Patrick McCormick from Poquoson, Virginia - that’s my hometown - registered a forfeit W at 125 against Southern Virginia. It’s my show, I’ll mention irrelevant forfeit wins by kids from my hometown if I want. •Rutgers opened up the season with three wins, picking up a win over newly branded Division I LIU 43-3, the top-ranked team in Division II, Pitt-Johnstown, 22-9 and Division III Centenary 38-6. •Edinboro opened up year two of the Matt Hill era with three wins, two over non-Division I foes Mercyhurst North East and Ashland and its first MAC win over new conference mate Kent State. In the 29-6 win over Kent State, the top win there was Jacob Oliver’s pin over Andrew McNally at 174 pounds. As SID Bob Shreve wrote, Edinboro eclipsed last year’s win total in one day. •While listed as an exhibition, it’s a notable that the revived wrestling program at Division II Fairmont State in West Virginia picked up a win over Garrett Community College of Maryland 30-22 on Saturday. It’s the second win in as many days for a new or reinstated program in the state. On Friday, Davis & Elkins opened with a win. •In Division III, Messiah won its Messiah Invitational with four champions - Josiah Gehr at 133, Garrett Cornell at 141, Nick Barnhardt at 149 and Stephen Maloney at 157 pounds. At 197, Ohio State’s Kollin Moore edged Oklahoma’s Jake Woodley 6-4 in sudden victory, while Michigan’s Mason Parris topped Central Michigan’s Matt Stencel 9-2 in the finals at 285. •Cowboy Open: Probably the most notable result came at 133 pounds where true freshman Theorius Robison of Northern Colorado beat Wyoming All-American Montorie Bridges 3-2. Now, the craziest thing to me is what I’m about to tell you. Ben VomBaur wrestled collegiately at Boise State, where he was a two-time All-American. He won the Cowboy Open, according to his Facebook page in 2001 and 2002. He finished tied for third - due to the match limit rule - at 133 pounds doing the old man entering the tournament thing. Only, he wasn’t. Ben entered the tournament with Will VomBaur, who attends the Air Force’s Prep School and Vance VomBaur, a high school junior out of Windsor, Colorado. Will didn’t place in the Amateur Division at 125, but Vance won it at 133 in the same age bracket, which is typically for college freshmen and sophomores. Yeah, those are Ben’s kids! He wrestled in a college open with his kids. Holy crap, that’s cool. I met Ben a long time ago at the U.S. World Team Trials in 2005 in Ames. Late Friday: •The Battle on the Midway did conclude after the first Short Time Shots of the season was released. Army West Point beat Fresno State 29-9 to conclude the kickoff of the season out in San Diego. In Arkansas, Williams Baptist blanked Central Baptist 48-6. Timmy has all the breakdowns, as well as a story on the U15 trip out to Europe as well. •Clay Cunningham of the Bakersfield Californian pens a pretty solid story on CSU Bakersfield 133-pounder Chance Rich heading into the Runners’ dual on Sunday against North Dakota State. •From my buddy Mike Catullo out in Pennsylvania, who tipped me off to one of his wrestlers needing a heart transplant. The York Daily Record did a story on the launch of the GoFundMe. You can read about it in the newsletter. Mike was a former assistant at Franklin & Marshall, Millersville and Maryland before moving back to PA to coach and teach at Red Lion High School. This is the same school that hosted Lock Haven vs. Arizona State last year. •When you think wrestling news, you think the Morrison County Record in Minnesota. Well, if you’re a Pierz wrestling fan, yes, that’s spelled P-I-E-R-Z, then you know that’s the most trusted name in news. In all seriousness, I love stories from local media promoting longtime coaches, so that’s why we have included the story of Mark Jensen’s upcoming induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Minnesota chapter. •From Eric Knopsnyder of the Tribune-Democrat in Johnstown, Pennsylvania - yup, one of the guys from PA Power Wrestling: Bo Bassett, who I recently saw win the Preseason Nationals in Iowa, is a finalist for Sports Illustrated Kids SportsKid of the Year. He’s a seventh grader at Forest Hills Middle School in Sidman, which is just outside Johnstown.•I’m pretty sure that VomBaur story is going to get some traction nationally once people hear about it. Today, we’re talking about protecting your Wi-Fi network from virtual attacks. Mitch Moore has made a career of sales and engineering and has acquired a serious understanding of Wi-Fi security along the way. As a Systems Engineer at Meraki, he spends his days helping others stay safe in the digital sphere. Today we’re learning about the growing capabilities of threats thanks to the cloud, points of vulnerability for small businesses, hiring white-hat hackers to engage in penetration testing and the ins and outs of Meraki’s latest solutions.
