Ginelle Testa sought connection in chat rooms as a kid, which led her to webcam for coins and validation. Nancy Jo Sales was “very sexualized” in childhood, too, then experienced common and related challenges while using dating apps as a middle-aged woman. Both women wrote powerful memoirs about their experiences – Ginelle's with addiction and seeking belonging; Nancy Jo's with online dating. And they both have a lot to say about self-acceptance, cultivating healthy relationships and pleasure - in and outside of the bedroom. Nancy Jo's story was originally released in a 2021 episode. S2E4 BTK Part 4 - Nancy Jo Fox - How Many Do I Have to Kill December 9th, 1977, just 16 days before Christmas, was a day that would change the lives of Dale and Ruth Fox forever. This was the day they learned their daughter; 25-year-old Nancy Fox was the victim of a brutal murder in her small, pink, two-room duplex apartment where she'd lived alone for the last two years. Dennis Rader had begun preparations for “Project Foxhunt” long before this fateful night, even going so far as to visit her work more than once to get a better idea of who she was. Rader felt no need to change his methods and continued to surprise women when they came home only this time, he added to his repertoire. Not long after Nancy Fox became BTK's 7th victim, Dennis Rader began to wonder why he wasn't getting more airtime on the news. He figured that by this time, he was a big deal in Wichita, Kansas, and decided that if they weren't going to discuss him voluntarily then he was going to make it happen. He didn't just want to be a local story, he wanted national attention, and this is when things really started getting weird. Welcome to Part 4 of our series on BTK where we give an extremely detailed look into the murder of Nancy Fox and the subsequent contact of BTK with the media and investigators which starts the games Rader enjoyed playing with law enforcement. Have you ever felt frustrated, alone, anxious or depressed while using dating apps? Or wondered why swiping has led to a lot more swiping than actual dates? If so, you're far from alone and there are reasons (that have nothing to do with you!) for all of that. While some people do find healthy, happy experiences and relationships through the apps, Nancy Jo Sales asserts that the big corporations running them are more interested in getting you hooked than finding lasting romance or love—and that using these apps is actually nothing like meeting someone in a bar (as many folks suggest), unless that bar were racist, transphobic and dangerous. In her new memoir, Nothing Personal: My Secret Life in the Dating App Inferno, Nancy Jo shares her own experience using the apps starting at age 49 and investigates the impact of Big Dating. And she recently joined August to discuss its themes and happenings. A few things you'll learn about in the episode: A few of Nancy Jo's sex and dating via app experiences, from funny, sicy and fun to dark and terrifying The harm these apps can do if you keep on swiping How “technoference” impacts intimacy and relationships The impact of sexualization of girls from a young age Why Nancy Jo decided to write such an open, honest book and what she hopes readers will glean from it Learn more about Nancy Jo Sales: nancyjosales.com Check out Dr. Megan's latest Pleasure Picks: greatlifegreatsex.com/pleasurepicks Support the show and get fun extras! patreon.com/girlboner Sign up for occasional email updates or submit a question: augustmclaughlin.com

This week's episode is about the homicide of mother Nancy Jo Canode. On March 3, 1981 in St. John’s County, Florida, she made a frantic 911 call for help. Nancy begged the operator for help. She said it was an emergency. Her killer was moving in on her and she knew it. Nancy’s last words were “Oh God.”The call abruptly ended. Daughter Suzanne, 15, came home about 3 p.m. She called out to her mother and received no response. Suzanne climbed the stairs to her mother’s bedroom. She saw her mother’s feet lying on the master bedroom floor. Suzanne called the police, then ran to a neighbor. Authorities arrived to find a horrific scene. Nancy Jo Canode, 39, was found with a rope wrapped around her neck. She had been raped, bitten and stabbed with a knife and ice pick. The murder appeared personal and was done with much violence. The knife was left on her back. It’s been over 40 years since Nancy was brutally murdered. Daughters Shuri Sheppard and Suzanne Speight have spent all these years trying to catch the person who killed their mother. Be sure to listen to Nancy's daughters discuss their mother's unsolved homicide. If you know anything about Nancy's murder, please contact the Crimestoppers tipline at 888-277-TIPS. In Episode 2, Bolton and Grace recap the 2013 movie, The Bling Ring, and discuss the facts of the true crime story that the movie is based on.Between October 2008 through November 2009, several celebrities living around Hollywood, California were burglarized. Most people were shocked to find out the burglars were teenagers/young adults from a nearby wealthy neighborhood. Nancy Jo Sales covered the story in her March 2010 Vanity Fair article, "The Suspects Wore Louboutins." In writing this article, Sales spoke at length to some of the young suspects, as well as the lead investigator on the case. This article serves as the basis for the 2013 movie, The Bling Ring, directed by Sofia Coppola. Life in Camo, the GOOD life! My name is Nancy Jo Adams, a freelance writer, columnist, dedicated blogger, avid huntress and founder of Ladies in Camo. I am also content strategist for several companies in the industry. I quickly learned that you can only take Archery 101 and Shot gunning 101 a couple times before you are bored with it. So I set out looking for hunts that I could attend with other women. I did find a few hunts but they were mostly “fund” driven events which meant along with that hunt came games and auctions in hopes of raising money for a certain organization. Which is definitely a great cause, but it did not take long for me to get bored with those events as well–I wanted to HUNT. I wanted the same experience any hunter would get if they booked a hunt with an outfitter…. great food, good fellowship and plenty of hunting. There are a few organizations out there offering hunts but they are way out of my price range. Finally, I decided if I couldn’t find any outfitters willing to offer quality economical hunts, I would organize a few myself.
