Sometime on this night in 1920 the president of France fell out of a moving train. And the story got weirder from there. This week, we take you back to the things that haunted you as a child: shadows that look a bit too much like people, bumps under the bed, and closets that act as portals through space and time! No, it's not a sci-fi film. Its 2005's Boogeyman! This Sam Raimi produced film stars the oldest son from 7th Heaven as a man who has been terrorized since childhood by an evil entity that lurks in the shadows. He must return home to face his fears and stop this monster from claiming the lives of more children.Created by Eric Kripke, this movie plays out like a dry run for the formula of his eventual hit show, Supernatural. Handsome leading man, monsters out of folklore and urban myth, and dark shadowy sets.Pete relays why he has a soft spot for this mediocre horror flick, while Sarah plays "spot that actor before they broke big". Hint: this movie is worth half your daily servings of Deschanel sisters.Tune in as we discover what goes bump in the night, and remember: don't get too scared...

Welcome to the Munsons at the Movies podcast. Each episode we delve into the filmography and impact of a randomly selected actor. In this episode, we explore the career of Zooey Deschanel. Best known for her roles as Jess in New Girl (2011-18), Summer in 500 Days of Summer (2009), and Jovie in Elf (2003), Deschanel has carved out a niche for herself as the quirky girl on screen over the years. Joined once again by Sam Phillips, we discuss her musical career on and off screen, the Janis Joplin biopic we never saw, the pixie dream girl archetype that she's played so many times, and we're finally forced to watch The Happening (2009), contemplating how it affected her career. How does she rank on the Munson Meter? Listen to find out.

This week we finally re-watch 500 Days of Summer, Directed by Mark Webb. 500 Days of Summer is the story of Tom Hansen played by Joseph Gordon Levitt and Summer Finn played by Zoey Deschanel. The peculiar way in which this story is told makes it hard to give a lead in without totally spoiling the film. This story spans 500 days… 500 days in which Tom Hansen is in love with Summer Finn, but the story is not told in sequential order, we jump in and out of these 500 days, slowly piecing together this story like a jig-saw puzzle. At times we peek in on a horrible argument, other times we jump backward in time to a beautiful date night at the movies. Slowly as we the audience step back… and back again… we get a full picture of the love, the loss, the rebirth of these two individuals Tom Hansen and Summer Finn, as we ultimately learn the story… of 500 Days of Summer…See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Our New Girl series wraps up with a look at the show's predecessors and contemporaries in women-centered sitcoms. We look at favorites from I Love Lucy, to Murphy Brown, to The Mindy Project, to Insecure, and how each of these shares common threads with New Girl. We also discuss the "quirky" persona of Zooey Deschanel that prevailed in the late 2000s/early 2010s. We talk about how this public perception informed our reading of the Jess Day character, and how it may have (read: definitely did) lead to unfair public judgement of Deschanel and her work. She meets colorful characters and dangerous foes and uncovers the truth about her past, where she comes from, and a prophecy she must fulfill. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

"All the Real Girls" is probably David Gordon Green's most underrated film and one of his best if you don't count "Pineapple Express", that of course was a hit but it's a comedy and it's easier for a comedy to make it than a drama, especially like a romantic drama. It's probably one of my favorite "indie" films of all time. I explain why this film is worth the watch. This isn't your average romance drama. This is an indie film where Green fires on all cylinders, expressing emotions through visuals with the lack of time and space. No one is perfect in this film and that itself is realism at its core. I also briefly talk about the existentialism in the characters, they connect almost in a spiritual way.
No Bones about it!That's it. That's the joke.Brian, Spencer, and Van are dragged yet again through Bones territory as the trio take one last deep long right into the meaty face of David Boreanaz. On this one, Booth infiltrates an underground poker game despite being a gambling addict and the rest of the Jeffersonian team try to tell him that's stupid. What fun!
Strap on your best set of bones, get a tall glass of bone juice (milk), and prepare for the wild ride that is Fox's Bones! Van makes Spencer and Brian wade through the Jeffersonian Institute, where noted bone expert Temperance "Bones" Brennan works to identify... well... bones. Of course along the way we're introduced to a tiny annoying man who says he has a lot of money, the Angelatron, Gormogon's baby, and of course David Boreanaz and his big, broad face. What's not to love? Oh and beware the Gravedigger!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are saying YES to life and YES to this week's movie. It's the 2008 film by Peyton Reed, Yes Man. This movie makes a good point: stop being a “no” person and start saying “yes” to more things. Who knows what could happen? Maybe you'll end up at the top of a Los Angeles mountain with a homeless person. Maybe you'll end up bungee jumping. You might even fall in love with Zooey Deschanel. What a wondrous life that would be, right? And what you're going to deny yourself the life of a lifetime just because saying yes to more things will put you out of your comfort zone? I'm going to be Terrence Stamp in this movie and bonk you over the head with a microphone. BONK! There, do you have more sense in your head now? More of an adventurous spirit? You should. Take Jim Carrey (in this movie), for instance. He was living a miserable life, even if he didn't want to admit it to himself. He was going nowhere until he decided to say yes to everything that was asked of him. His entire life changed! I can't promise you that you'll get promoted at your bank job, save Luis Guzman from jumping off a ledge, learn Korean, and live a fun life with Ms. Deschanel. But I also can't promise those things won't happen. Think about it and say yes to more things… (Recorded on November 19, 2021) Links to Stuff We Mentioned: Yes Man - IMDb Yes Man trailer - YouTube Jim Carrey - IMDb Zooey Deschanel - IMDb Bradley Cooper - IMDb Rhys Darby - IMDb Terence Stamp - IMDb John Michael Higgins - IMDb Blockbuster LLC - Wikipedia Hollywood Video - Wikipedia Blockbuster CEO Passed up Chance to Buy Netflix for $50 Million - Business Insider Saw (2004) - IMDb Cary Elwes - IMDb Jigsaw (2017) - IMDb Tony Robbins - Wikipedia NXIVM - Wikipedia Allison Mack - Wikipedia Happiest Season (2020) - IMDb Aubrey Plaza - IMDb Kristen Stewart - IMDb Malcolm McDowell - IMDb Harry Potter - Wikipedia Miles Morales - Wikipedia Master Chief (Halo) - Wikipedia Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) - IMDb Flight of the Conchords (TV Series 2007–2009) - IMDb Friends (TV Series 1994–2004) - IMDb Luis Guzmán - IMDb Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) - IMDb Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) - IMDb The Green Knight (2021) - IMDb Follow Us: Give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts! Erin and Paul look at two films from the schizophrenic career of Criterion Collection auteur turned stoner-comedy kingpin David Gordon Green. First: Zooey Deschanel breaks boyfriend Paul Schneider's heart in the dreamy 2003 romantic drama ALL THE REAL GIRLS; then, pothead process server Seth Rogen and dimwitted dealer James Franco go on the run, albeit ineptly, from corrupt cops and murderous drug lords in the 2008 action comedy PINEAPPLE EXPRESS. Danny McBride covered in macaroni and cheese, or Danny McBride covered in blood: which will prevail?
