Through her groundbreaking work with Sematsatsa Library and projects like "Hashtag That's What She Said," Palesa uses art as a powerful medium to spark dialogue and transform communities across South Africa. Her story is a testament to the power of art in fostering inclusivity and empowering women, as she highlights the diverse and interconnected nature of visual arts, music, fashion, and architecture. As Palesa tells us in this conversation, passion, resilience and sacrifice are the bare minimum you need to take a leap from corporate to entrepreneurship. But it also takes the support of people who believe in you. Palesa has moved from her hometown of Bloemfontein, through the art scenes of Johannesburg and Cape Town and she gives us a taste of her experiences there. Find out how she moved from reluctant curator to a powerful player with her own arts agency and consultancy. Find out how she has balanced the need for financial stability with her work as a social entrepreneur, and how she advises young artists to create their own sustainable careers in this space. Through her work and connecting with artists and curators who inspire new narratives in the art world, Palesa now has a dream of creating an institution that would give back to the community that nurtured her talent and supported her career. Shownotes and Transcript We are delighted to be joined by Dr Mark Trozzi, a seasoned emergency physician, to share his insights on the ethical challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. With over 30 years of experience, he recounts his transition from patient care to researching treatment amid questionable hospital protocols. Resigning from his medical positions due to concerns over coercive vaccination practices, Dr Trozzi critiques the current medical education system for prioritizing compliance over ethics. He advocates for a holistic health approach through lifestyle choices, introducing the "NEW START" framework. Dr Trozzi emphasizes the importance of personal responsibility and integrity in healthcare, urging a proactive stance on well-being. Dr Mark Trozzi MD has practiced Emergency Medicine In Canada for 25 years, taught critical resuscitation and advance trauma care for over a decade, and held teaching positions in 3 Canadian medical schools. While on call in multiple emergency units when covid-19 was launched, including one designated specifically for Covid-19, he noted severe discrepancies of medical science, ethical norms and human rights, and misrepresentation of dangerous genetic injections as “safe and effective.” At the end of 2020, he walked away from his entire pre-existing career and income, sold his home, and committed himself completely to alerting the public, advancing genuine medical science despite the current climate, and supporting the drive for justice. If only he'd been exposed to the tools and ideas that could have helped him recognize and navigate through the twisting and bending road of life. I can't rewrite the past but I can help you, write and create an amazing future!" -Frank Williams https://mbxlife.com/
Peter Brindley joins you again to bring you The Great Re-Engagement, alongside Pelesa Motshabi Chakane, Silvia Perez-Protto and Andrew Shaw. This episode explores the future of healthcare, and the ways to utilise the global community, research, and technology to enable greater contentment for clinicians to enable excellent healthcare at a global level. What will successful medicine look like in 10 years' time if we get it right? It is a daunting prospect to consider. Palesa hopes that the positivity that has been borne out of the Covid-19 pandemic continues. She believes it will be the capacity for the healthcare system to utilise the unity that has been exhibited over the last two years will be the driving force for ongoing positive change. Ideally, this leads to healthcare for everyone, prevention of sickness and disease and exceptional care for the whole person. Silvia speaks of her dream of the abolition of healthcare disparity and universal access for all. Andrew hopes that the medical community will engage both science and art to make these dreams reality. Andrew speaks about the integration of technology into the practise of medicine and explores the potential benefits and disadvantages. Further he speaks to the changing nature of healthcare to be servicing customers as opposed to patients. This comes with greater choice for individuals accessing healthcare. He sees this “relationship based” healthcare as key to ensuring technology does not become all consuming. Prevention, rather than cure, is a key tenant to the development of healthcare in Andrew's opinion. This sentiment is founded on an agreement to a moral contract by the medical community. The moral contract contains within it a right to affordable and accessible healthcare for all. Silvia feels poor data collection, especially in terms of underrepresented groups, is hindering the design and implementation of health care systems. The way forward is meaningful engagement with all patients to better design systems. Palesa provides a viewpoint from a system in lower income countries. Whilst the medium and high-income countries are faced with challenges surrounded by the rising use of technology and perhaps patient disengagement, Palesa makes the point that for most of the world, burden of disease is still the major challenge to be faced. Utilising technology in an appropriate way to bridge the gap between low- and high-income countries is the way forward Balancing education, research and clinical care is another challenge that is becoming more and more apparent. Andrew thinks that clinical care is, and must be, at the forefront of medical practise. It is what the patients hold most highly and for good reason. Whilst education and research are important, these pursuits may be best to be left to those who are legitimately good at them. The team discuss the best ways to balance being pulled in multiple directions whilst keeping the patients at the forefront. For more like this, head to our podcast page. #CodaPodcast
HIGHLIGHTSStarting up with ParkuppFrom Parkupp to TroobChallenges in starting TroobPalesa's goals for TroobPalesa's journey in New YorkPalesa's advice to entrepreneursQUOTESPalesa: “Sometimes you build something and you don't always know how it's gonna work out. You could have like, your end goal, that this is how I wanted to be or whatever the case may be, but it's important to be flexible, because along the way, you know, things change. Your interests have changed as well. Yeah. So you can't really be married to the original idea. So it's very important to be flexible.”Palesa: “It doesn't have to be like endless or unlimited, or whatever they can be, sometimes you can just build something, and that was your purpose, and then the next person comes in and takes it to wherever it needs to go. And as an entrepreneur, you need to understand that.”Rob: “You need to engage first with the people that you want to talk to, so that they can engage back with you and become that ability to see what you're building.”Rob: “Building a network and having access to a network takes time. Because if everyone just opened up their network, they get taken advantage of. So you have to prove why you're worthy. What you can do in exchange for value.”Rob: “In an age of everyone having strong opinions, finding commonality is a great way to build rapport.”Palesa: “My advice is to have no final form. I don't believe that when you arrive at a destination, you get to a point where you've done everything. It's just about continuously learning, seeking out new experiences and exploring.”Connect with Palesa through the links belowLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/palesa-moloi-39604b146/Website: http://www.troob.spaces/Instagram: @troob.spacesTwitter: @troob.spacesDon't forget to subscribe and leave a review.Connect with Rob:www.beacons.page/robnapoliwww.linkedin.com/in/robnapIG: @robnapoli.riseupSpecial offer for #BearNation listeners who are interested in trying Brilliantly Warm, use this 10% off discount code WELCOME10.We have teamed up with Phin, a social impact marketing firm, to give back for each episode.
