Send me a text! I'd love to know what you're thinking!Markus Watson and Tod Bolsinger unpack the fascinating connection between the Latin roots of “prayer” and “precarious”—suggesting that it's often in our most uncertain moments that we're drawn into deeper dependence on God. Together, they explore how precarious situations not only shape our leadership but also form and mature our prayer lives. You'll also hear practical wisdom on leading others in prayer through times of change and how discernment, rather than just asking God to bless our plans, is central to a healthy approach to leadership.Tod Bolsinger and Markus Watson discuss this quote from Jeff Hoffmeyer in Ep. 246: Have We Forgotten to Pray?:"The Latin word for prayer is the same root for ‘precarious'. So, I think when we're in a precarious situation, God's desire is that we'll be driven to dependence on prayer."THIS EPISODE'S HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:Leaders cultivate their prayer lives in the midst of precarious situations.Leaders experience spiritual formation when they become aware of their dependence on God.Leaders guide their congregations into discernment by seeking God's voice together.Leaders model a deep prayer life by honestly acknowledging their limitations.Leaders resist making plans independently and instead invite God to direct their path.Click HERE to get my FREE online course, BECOMING LEADERS OF SHALOM.

Miguel Angel Angeles, executive director of Bethel Radio & TV, shares the history of a ministry that started with one Christian asking a radio station to play audio cassettes of his sermons on the air. As the radio ministry encouraged and built up the church, it expanded into Venezuela, Colombia, and other areas. Today, Bethel is a network of hundreds of radio and television stations, based in Peru and reaching Spanish speakers all over Latin America and the world. Miguel will share about his own start serving in IT with Bethel TV, and how he came to understand the importance of bringing awareness of the persecuted body of Christ through Bethel programming. “My first time listening about the persecuted church was when Petr Jasek came to a conference in Peru to share his testimony,” Miguel said, “and it created a hunger for me to learn more.” After hearing Petr Jasek speak at a conference about his own arrest in Sudan, Miguel's church began to meet every Monday to pray for the persecuted church and to learn more about fellow believers facing Christian persecution. Week after week, God prepared Miguel's heart as it was continuously stretched by the stories of bold faith in the face of hostility and persecution. After reading Tortured for Christ, by Richard Wurmbrand, the founder of The Voice of the Martyrs, Miguel knew he needed to share about persecuted Christians with the broader church in Latin America and with his radio audience. Listen as Miguel shares the heart of his church for missions. Churches dedicate one Sunday a month to focus on missions and missionaries. You and your church will be encouraged to make missions and praying for persecuted Christians a regular part of your worship gatherings as well. Pray this week for Miguel, his family, and Bethel Radio & TV as they continue serving the Lord and sharing the voice of persecuted Christians with Spanish-speaking people around the world. 657 - Boundaries ?

    Organize 365 Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later May 30, 2025 48:28

Summer planning round 3, ding ding ding. I share a lot of my life because I am part of the Organize 365® brand. I've been podcasting for over 12 years and over that time I have shared a lot about me, my life, and my family. Recently I shared how I wanted to spend the next 120 days upleveling the upstairs of my house. Those plans changed when Abby decided to have back surgery. And once again those plans have changed. And when evaluating my boundaries, I asked to share some news on this podcast I'd been withholding to explain why all the changes. My personal life A year or two ago I started practicing boundaries. My family has never been upset with anything that I shared but I started thinking they are adults and it's their news to share when there's news. I don't need to share everything. And a year ago I decided to stop sharing vacation/trips with social media and on the app. But then I wanted to share something while I was on a trip and I questioned my boundaries. I've decided I have boundaries in place but when I want to share something I will even if it goes against those boundaries. My boundaries are flexible. Unexpected golden window When Abby's back surgery got cancelled, I removed the “When Abby has back surgery” google calendar and my calendar was bare! I'd dedicated about 80% of my upcoming time to take care of Grayson and Abby. Now what did I want to do in this unexpected golden window? People often ask “I have so much to do, but when I have a pocket of time, I don't know what to do first.” I say all you need to do is just pick. I had lots of options when that time opened up on my calendar. I decided I want to make the PhD a priority. You see, Abby had to do some pre-operation bloodwork that revealed she's expecting. Yes!! Hence the surgery is off. This discovery led to a cascade of changes for the next 120 days. The second thing I decided I wanted to do was revisiting creating an office upstairs in our house. And I created a little bedroom upstairs for Grayson like I'd mentioned before so our house is ready for this next phase of life.  Wanna know how I'm gonna spend the rest of this time?  Italy, a Wedding, and a Baby Knowing the baby is coming in December, I want to plan our Italy trip for this fall. It's been cancelled a few times, and I want to go before Abby needs us with baby #2. More news I've been keeping private is that Abby is engaged and they're getting married in the Spring of 2026, so we definitely need to squeeze this trip in. Pray for me as I plan this wedding. LOL So travel, travel is the other thing I want to do for this 120 days. By the time you listen to this episode I will have just come back from Michigan. Greg and Joey are headed to the Keys. When we head to FL I'm taking Grayson to Disney (secretly hoping it becomes our little tradition.) I'm taking an adult field trip to VA. And I'll be planning this Italian trip for the fall that we've talked about taking forever! So I have a few things keeping me busy.  I will not be creating any courses or Sunday Baskets® for weddings, vacationing, or any other courses based on the events currently in my life. I'm not a public figure that is going to try to be an expert in everything I do. When I created Organize 365® I chose a subject I was an expert in and a subject that I wanted to talk and teach about until I was at least 80. Teaching others about organization is my unique gift and I'm going to stay in that lane.  EPISODE RESOURCES: The Sunday Basket® Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter  Did you enjoy this episode? #12216 Should We Pray to the Saints? A Scriptural and Historical Defense - Karlo Broussard

    Catholic Answers Live

In this episode of Catholic Answers Live, Karlo Broussard goes beyond proving that the saints in heaven are aware of our prayers—he tackles the deeper question: Should we actually invoke them? Karlo answers key Protestant objections such as the absence of early Christian practices, claims of necromancy or idolatry, and the charge that saints would need to be omniscient to hear so many prayers. With Scripture, Church history, and careful reasoning, Karlo shows why invoking the saints is not only legitimate but spiritually powerful—and not a substitute for going directly to Jesus, but a biblical expression of the communion of saints. Help us reach our goal by donating! Catholicanswersradio.com Join The CA Live Club Newsletter: Click Here Invite our apologists to speak at your parish! Visit Catholicanswersspeakers.com Questions Covered: 03:48 – Even if I concede that Revelation 5:8 proves the Christians in heaven are aware of our specific requests and intercede for us on account of those requests, it doesn't give us any sort of instruction to invoke them. Therefore, we shouldn't do it.   17:40 – Maybe we don't need an explicit instruction to invoke the saints. But you'd think that if it were appropriate to ask the saints to pray for us, then at least we'd have some examples of the first century Christians doing this. Since we don't, we shouldn't invoke the saints.   22:16 – But Karlo, we don't have any evidence of Christians invoking the saints' intercession for the first two hundred years plus of Christianity. The earliest evidence we have is the mid third century. Since this belief and practice is a historical accretion, we shouldn't engage in it.   28:30 – Perhaps the lack of evidence for Christians invoking the saints in the New Testament and the first two hundred years is because Christians believed it was wrong to communicate with the dead, given that Deuteronomy 18:12 forbids necromancy and calls it an “abomination to the Lord.   35:40 – Let's say I agree that the invocation of the saints isn't necromancy. But we still ought not to do it because it's idolatrous. Don't Catholics say, “we pray to the saints”? Prayer is something that we offer to God alone.   42:00 – It still seems that Catholics make “gods” out of the saints because by invoking them you're implying that they can do only what God can do—namely, know the hearts of men. 2 Chronicles 6:30 says, “God alone knows the hearts of men.   44:58 – Okay, maybe God can give some knowledge to the saints. But the amount of knowledge involved with the Catholic belief and practice would require omniscience. How could Mary hear 8 billion prayer requests, say, at the same time? She'd have to be God to do that.   48:50 – Maybe there's nothing wrong with invoking the saints in principle. But because it has led to so many abuses and violations of the Gospel that we should not do it.   52:45 – Practically speaking. Why would I invoke the saints when I can just go straight to Jesus?

Just as deceptive weeds can creep into a healthy garden, pride often sneaks into our hearts, growing unnoticed among our accomplishments and even our service to God. Annie Yorty uses a vivid gardening metaphor to help us recognize how pride takes root and how we can humbly invite God to weed it out. Through reflection, Scripture, and prayer, we’re reminded to give glory to the true source of all our gifts: God alone. Themes Explored: The subtle danger of pride Recognizing the difference between self-glory and God-glory Daily humility as spiritual “weed control” Confession and dependence on God for heart inspection Living for God’s glory over our own Scripture Reference Jeremiah 9:23 (NLT) “This is what the Lord says: ‘Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches.’”

Read OnlineJesus said to his disciples: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.”  John 16:12–13This passage still rings true for all of us today. God wants to reveal to us, within the depths of our consciences, the deepest, most profound and transforming truths that flow from the mind of the Father in Heaven. But we cannot bear it all now. Not fully. And eternity will be spent continually deepening our understanding of all that God reveals. And the process of this ongoing and deepening discovery will fill us with an ongoing and deepening joy. This will be our Heaven, but it must begin now.First of all, it's important to understand that God does “have much more to tell you.” Interestingly, coming to know how much you do not already know is itself a form of knowledge. Knowing that there is so much more, that God's wisdom is infinitely beyond you, that the mind of God compared to yours is incomparable is itself a beautiful truth that must be understood. This truth should both humble you and also fill you with a holy awe of God and the infinite depth of wisdom, truth, beauty and glory contained within Him. This is an essential first step.Furthermore, by saying that “you cannot bear it now” does not mean that you should not try to bear more and more of the truth that God wants to reveal. In fact, it's a form of invitation, in that it indicates that there will come a time when you will be able to comprehend more. This should once again foster a hope and anticipation for all that remains hidden to be revealed. Humility in the face of the infinite God is necessary for growth in wisdom and knowledge of God.How does this growth in wisdom and the knowledge of God happen? It happens by the power and working of the Holy Spirit. It is the “Spirit of truth” who will “guide you to all truth.” But even this statement, once again, implies that this is a process. It is the Spirit Who will “guide” you. And this guidance will continue throughout this life and on into eternity. This teaching of our Lord begs the question: Have you begun the process? Have you begun to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into the truth? Have there been concrete moments in your life when you came to know God in a new and profound way that could only have been possible by the power and working of God Himself?Reflect, today, upon these essential questions. If you have had God the Holy Spirit speak clearly to You, then humble yourself before that truth. Pray for more wisdom and more knowledge of all that you do not know. And if you cannot relate to the idea of there being so much more that is beyond you, then humbly turn to our Lord and beg Him to begin to open your mind to all that He wants to say to you. The infinite mind of our God awaits you to be discovered and embraced. Begin the process today and let Him guide you into all truth.God of all truth, You, Your wisdom, Your love and all of Your glorious attributes are infinite in nature and are beyond my complete comprehension. As I humble myself before these holy truths, dear Lord, please bestow upon me the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, so that I may open my mind more fully to You by Your grace. May the process of deep discovery be one of great joy and become for me a process that continues into eternity. Jesus, I trust in You.Image by Gerd Altmann from PixabaySource of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Lynette Kittle takes us back to the origins of Memorial Day, offering historical perspective and spiritual comfort for those grieving their loss.
