Today's readings remind us that all good things come from God, and he calls us to specific places and times for a reason. In the book of Esther, Fr. Mike points out that Esther was perfectly positioned to fulfill God's will. We too, can examine our lives and realize that there are places God has brought us, "for such a time as this". The readings are Nehemiah 9, Esther 4 and 14, and Proverbs 21:9-12. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. In Malaysia, every citizen carries an ID card that includes religion; every person is classified as either “Muslim” or “Non-Muslim.” The Malaysian constitution promises religious freedom and the right to choose one's religion. So what happens if a citizen changes their faith? “Brother Samuel” will answer that question this week on VOM Radio. Born into a Muslim family, he came to know that Jesus was the Son of God, then chose to leave Islam behind to follow Christ. At first, he kept his newfound faith quiet, knowing that being publicly identified as a follower of Jesus could bring all kinds of trouble. But as he grew in faith, he felt convicted about his silence. Jesus had died for him. How could he be unwilling even to acknowledge Christ? Learning of his conversion, Samuel's family encouraged him to dive more deeply into Islamic training and activities. Wanting to honor his father and his family, Samuel agreed to attend Islamic classes. But instead of bringing him back to Mohammed, the training forced him to become more rooted in Biblical truth and more capable at explaining and defending Christian doctrines. In 2018, Samuel began the process of applying for a new national ID card, changing his religion from “Muslim” to “non-Muslim.” Seven years later, his court case is still dragging on. While the most famous case of Christian persecution in Malaysia is the abduction of Pastor Raymond Koh, Samuel says there are hundreds of Christians right now in the same situation he's in: trying to get the government to issue them new ID cards that accurately reflect their faith. Please pray this week for Samuel and for other Christians in Malaysia. Next month is the International Day of Prayer for Persecuted Christians (IDOP). The Voice of the Martyrs has resources to help you and your church pray for persecuted Christians on November 2 and throughout the year, including a new film telling the story of ongoing persecution in Democratic Republic of Congo. Access all VOM's IDOP resources here.

Read OnlineThe apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.” Luke 17:5–6Is it possible to completely uproot a tree and plant it in the sea? It's certainly hard to imagine how. It is especially hard to imagine doing so with a simple command of faith. Uprooting a tree is hard enough to imagine, but it is even more difficult to imagine a tree being planted in the sea. Though water is necessary, one cannot plant a tree in the sea and expect it to grow. But that's partly the point. We often underestimate the power of true faith. Saint Matthew's Gospel says that faith can move mountains. Saint Luke's says it can uproot a tree and replant it in the sea. All it takes to do so is faith the size of a mustard seed. How much faith is equal to a mustard seed? A mustard seed is small, very small. It measures only about one millimeter in length. People who worked the soil at that time would have known that it was among the smallest of seeds they planted. For that reason, Jesus uses this familiar image to teach the apostles that faith, even a little faith, is powerful.Jesus' teaching comes in response to a prayer on the part of the apostles. “Increase our faith,” they said. Jesus' response, inviting them to have only a little faith, implies that their faith was quite weak. To increase their faith to the size of a mustard seed suggests that they did not even have a little faith yet. Most likely they were aware of that fact, and that was the reason they asked Jesus to increase their faith. They perceived their lacking and turned to Him Who could help. One of the first steps to increasing faith is to humbly admit our lack of faith. In our pride, we often want to convince ourselves and others that we are filled with faith. But if that were the case, God would be doing incredible things through us. He would be doing that which is otherwise humanly impossible.Obviously, faith does not give us magical powers by which we can literally command a tree to uproot itself and plant itself in the sea. This imagery is meant to tell us that faith will work miracles of faith, not necessarily physical miracles. In fact, if God ever did use us and our faith to work a physical miracle, it would only happen because it was a motivation for the far more important gift of the increase of faith. What, then, can a little faith do? It can uproot sin from your heart and from the hearts of those around you. It can nourish you and others in ways that seem impossible. Just as a tree cannot normally be planted in the sea and survive, the gift of faith, even a little faith, will enable the soul to be nourished and strengthened in ways that otherwise seem impossible. A martyr perfectly illustrates this fact. Normally, persecution and death are not considered to be nourishing to a person. But when a person has faith and suffers martyrdom on account of Christ, then their soul will be fed by the persecution itself. And that is among the greatest of miracles possible. Suffering, persecution, illness, poverty, and every other difficulty imaginable are transformed by God into a source of nourishment when we endure them with true faith. Reflect, today, upon the prayer of the apostles: “Increase our faith.” Some of the greatest mystics taught that faith darkens the intellect. By this darkening, they mean that, by faith, God will lead us into the unknown, on a path that He alone is aware of. We will become instruments of His transforming grace in ways that are completely beyond our natural abilities. Pray for an increase of faith. When our Lord hears your humble prayer, by which you also confess your lack of faith, He will increase that faith, uproot sin and evil, and plant your soul in places in which you become nourished in ways that you could have never imagined possible. Most glorious Lord, Increase my faith. Give me a pure faith—a faith that enables You to lead me down the unknown path to Your glory. With this gift of faith, please use me to bring forth Your miraculous power by which sin is uprooted and souls are nourished by You alone. Jesus, I trust in You. He urges him to treat older men as fathers, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. Paul also provides detailed advice on the conduct of widows and their care, emphasizing that family members should support their own before the church intervenes. Only widows who are genuinely in need and demonstrate godly character should receive support from the church. Paul follows by addressing elders, stating that those who lead well are deserving of honor, particularly those who preach and teach. He cautions against favoritism, encourages carefulness in correcting leaders, and calls for personal purity. The brethren are encouraged to flee sin, as sin will inevitably be exposed. We are called to care for one another with deep respect and compassion. Our relationships in the church should reflect the love of a family. We must treat others with honor, seeing their value through God's eyes. When needs arise, we must fulfill our God given responsibilities. We are part of a body that cares, serves, and protects. Godliness is expected of everyone, from the young to the widows. We also learn the importance of honoring those who lead well and holding each other accountable with grace and wisdom. Leadership and community are not casual responsibilities. We must walk with integrity and seek to do what is right. God calls us to live purely and never to conceal sin. Loving Lord, we thank You for placing us in a community where we can grow, serve, and be loved. Teach us to honor one another with kindness, to care for those in need, and to treat each person with dignity. Help us to see our brothers and sisters through Your eyes. Show us how to serve without expecting praise and to lead with humility. Give us the strength to correct with graceful wisdom and be patient with our approach, knowing You see all and know every heart. May we be faithful and free from sin and its consequences. Thought Questions: Why is it important for younger Christians to show honor and respect for older members of Christ's body, specifically widows and elders? Several categories of widows are noted in this text. How many can you identify? Why are younger widows often encouraged to remarry? Why must believers honor local elders, and how must accusations against elders be handled? Why is this careful process important?

Episode Description Episode Description Sign up to receive this Unreached of the Day podcast sent to you: https://joshuaproject.net/people_groups/15065 Dear Friend, The Batak people of North Sumatra didn't have a written language until 1834. Today, they're one of the largest Christian populations in Indonesia, with over 6 million believers. The transformation happened because someone, a German missionary named Ludwig Nommensen, decided their spiritual poverty was unacceptable. That was 190 years ago. Today, 4,473 people groups are still waiting for their Ludwig Nommensen moment. The People Group Adoption Program launches today, and here's how it works: It meets you where you are. You're not being asked to become a missionary in the field (though if God calls you to that, we'll cheer you on). You're being invited to use your current gifts, prayer, advocacy, networking, research to support those who are already called to go. It's strategic. Every people group in our database has been vetted by researchers and field workers. These aren't randomly selected communities. They're the 100 largest frontier people groups, the populations with the least gospel access and the greatest potential for kingdom impact. It grows with your capacity. Whether you're adopting as a family, church, or organization, the commitment adjusts to what you can offer. Some will pray weekly. Others will fund translation projects. A few will end up moving to the field. All contributions matter. When you adopt a people group today, you'll receive: Immediate next steps for your specific adopted group A digital covenant card to mark your commitment Information about your frontier people group Regular updates as we develop more resources and connections Beyond the practical resources, you'll receive something harder to quantify: the knowledge that you're part of a strategic response to the most urgent spiritual need on our planet. The Batak people have been sending missionaries to unreached groups for decades now. Their story didn't end with their own transformation; it multiplied exponentially.

Today, we close out our week, focusing on hope.Romans15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.Hope is something that often eludes us. Day-to-day, we can get so lost in the stress and anxiety of our culture that our sense of hope feels diminished. That's why this passage cuts through. It starts by saying that we are sons and daughters of the ‘God of hope'. What is an area in your life right now that feels hopeless? It says we will be filled with hope, joy and peace as we trust in Him. Right now, can you reaffirm your trust in our God of hope?It also says the power of the Holy Spirit will cause us to overflow with hope. Can you invite the Holy Spirit to release the power of Hope in your life so that it ‘overflows to those around us?Pray with me: “God of hope, please fill me with joy and peace, and help me trust you in all areas of my life. I ask that your Holy Spirit would fill me with the hope that overflows into those around me. As above, so below. ”

Paul urges Timothy to be aware of this and to remain grounded in the truth of God as a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Paul emphasizes that while physical training has some value, godliness holds value for all things, both in this life and the next. He encourages Timothy to set an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity, despite his youth. Paul instructs him not to neglect the spiritual gift given to him, but to devote himself fully to the work of ministry. By doing so, he will grow in maturity and help lead others to salvation. The chapter calls all believers to stay alert, pursue godliness, and stay faithful to sound teaching. We live in a time when truth is often distorted, so we must stay anchored in what God has spoken. Paul reminds us that growing in godliness is not automatic; it requires discipline, intention, and a heart that seeks to honor God. We may feel overlooked because of our age or inexperience, but God calls us to be examples right where we are. Our words, our habits, and our love should all reflect Jesus. We each have gifts, and we must not ignore them. When we commit to spiritual growth, others are strengthened by our faithfulness. Let us take this charge seriously and live in a way that draws others toward truth, leading them to the salvation of their souls. Present God, we hear Your call to grow in godliness. Please help us avoid the distractions of teachings that are not from You. We ask for focus when we feel distracted, and for strength when we feel tired or unseen. Help us to take our faith seriously, not just in public, but always. Teach us to lead with our lives, not just our words. We want to be examples of love, purity, and faith. Remind us that our age or position does not limit what You can do through us. We are Yours. Use us to share Your message of salvation. Thought Questions: What are the deceitful doctrines noted in this chapter? How do you protect yourself from such restrictions and live in the liberty of Christ? How do you “discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness”? Why is it important to fix your hope on Jesus as you do so? What did Paul tell Timothy to focus on to keep others from looking down on him? Which of those are you working on in your life presently?

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” (Romans 8:26–27 NLT) There will be times when you don’t know what or how to pray. You may be overwhelmed with a burden. You may be discouraged. You may be depressed. You may be afraid. That’s when the Holy Spirit steps in to help you. Referring to the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you” (John 14:16 NLT). The word Advocate also can be translated as Comforter. It comes from the Greek word parakletos, which means “called alongside to help.” The Holy Spirit comes alongside you to assist you in your prayer. He serves as an advocate in interceding for you and pleading your cause before the Father. Let’s face it, some prayer requests are too complex to put into words. Some situations are beyond your ability to fully grasp. Some cause you to confront your self-interests in uncomfortable ways, requiring you to choose between what’s easiest for you in the short term and what’s best for you in the long term. In situations like these, arranging your thoughts and emotions into coherent sentences may seem next to impossible. The good news is that sometimes the most profound prayers are nothing more than a sigh or a groan—an emotional SOS, signaling that you’re overwhelmed and don’t know what to say. I can attest. After my son died, I struggled to come to grips with the reality of his being gone. I prayed to God, but I didn’t always know what to pray. So, sometimes I just said, “Oh, Lord.” Sometimes I just groaned. Sometimes I just cried. Sometimes I just sighed. But that was all I needed to do because I wasn’t crying out against God; I was crying out to Him for help. And His Holy Spirit was ready to assist. The apostle Paul wrote, “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will” (Romans 8:26–27 NLT). Don’t let a lack of words keep you from praying. No matter what you’re experiencing, take it to the Lord. Give Him your sighs, your groans, your tears, your anxiety, your rage. Even if you can muster no more than “God, please,” it’s enough for the Holy Spirit to work with. He will make your needs known to the One who can bring ultimate good from any situation. Sooner or later, we all must give an account to God for what He's entrusted to us. The question is: will we be shrewd, creative, and industrious with what we have, or will we have a lazy and unurgent attitude toward life? This parable is often considered one of the most difficult to understand. Why? Because Jesus uses a villain as an example of what to do. The tale of the Shrewd Manager is a morally fuzzy story. But if we dig deep enough, there will be heavenly meaning for us and lessons on how to treat the resources God has entrusted to us. Episode Description Episode Description Sign up to receive this Unreached of the Day podcast sent to you: https://joshuaproject.net/people_groups/15080 Dear Friend, The Batak people of North Sumatra didn't have a written language until 1834.

Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Get behind our through the Bible project. Read more here Project23. Our text today is Judges 6:17–24. And he said to him, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, then show me a sign that it is you who speak with me. Please do not depart from here until I come to you and bring out my present and set it before you.” And he said, “I will stay till you return.” So Gideon went into his house and prepared a young goat and unleavened cakes from an ephah of flour. The meat he put in a basket and the broth he put in a pot and brought them to him under the terebinth and presented them. And the angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and put them on this rock, and pour the broth over them.” And he did so. Then the angel of the LORD reached out the tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes. And fire sprang up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. And the angel of the LORD vanished from his sight. Then Gideon perceived that he was the angel of the LORD. And Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord GOD! For now I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face.” But the LORD said to him, “Peace be to you. Do not fear; you shall not die.” Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD and called it, The LORD Is Peace. — Judges 6:17-24 Gideon's call is still fresh. God has told him, “I will be with you”, but fear is still whispering in his ear. He wants to believe — but he needs assurance. So Gideon offers what he has — a gift, placed before the angel of the LORD. In a flash of fire from the rock, God confirms His presence and His power. Gideon's fear spikes at first (“I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!”), but God speaks peace into the moment: “Do not fear; you shall not die.” And right there, Gideon builds an altar. It's not just a monument — it's the turning point. The altar becomes the bridge between the fear that kept him in hiding and the faith that will send him into action. Worship is more than singing songs. It's the place where we respond to God's presence, remember his promises, and let his voice replace our fear with peace. For Gideon, that altar was where “I can't” became “He can.” It's where he stopped letting fear define his future and started believing God's affirmation. This is why so many of us stall in our calling — we try to jump from fear straight to action. But the path God gives is different: Fear → Worship → Faith → Action The altar is the bridge. Without it, you're running on your own adrenaline. With it, you're fueled by his peace. Pause whatever else you're doing and worship right now. Speak out loud one fear that's been holding you back. Thank God for one specific way He's confirmed His presence in your life. Pray these words: “You are my peace. I trust You more than I fear.” Write today's date in your journal as a marker — your “altar” moment — so you remember where fear became faith. ASK THIS: Where has fear been keeping you in hiding instead of moving forward? How could intentional worship today become your bridge into faith? What would your “altar” look like in this season? Are you trying to leap into action without first letting God speak peace over you? DO THIS: Pause whatever else you're doing and worship. PRAY THIS: Lord, thank You that worship is the bridge between my fear and my faith. I offer You my fear right now and choose to rest in Your peace before I move forward. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Peace Be Still."

My Story for this week is one that I remember quite well - The year was 1962 and I was 14 years old. I still remember sitting in front of my TV set that night with my family, listening to our President, John Kennedy, as he told us that a showdown was coming with the Russians - and it was quite serious. I have titled the story "Ask Not". Let us all Pray!. Jerry Stewart

He emphasizes that leaders must be people of integrity, self-control, and spiritual maturity. An overseer must be above reproach, faithful to one spouse, gentle, hospitable, and able to teach. He must manage his household well and not be a recent convert. Deacons also must be dignified, trustworthy, and committed to sound faith and behavior. Their wives must also demonstrate respect, self-control, and faithfulness. Paul explains that leadership in the church is a serious responsibility, a position focused on service to others, not power over them. He reminds Timothy that the church is the household of God, and it must uphold the truth and reflect the mystery of godliness revealed in the whole story of Christ. Leadership among God's people is not about status but about character. We are reminded that what we do in private shapes who we are in public, and that public leadership roles are worth aspiring to. Whether or not we serve in official roles, we all represent Christ through the way we live. We must seriously consider how we speak, lead our families, and respond to challenges. God is calling us to grow in integrity and to be faithful stewards of the influence we have. As part of His household, we help carry the truth about Jesus Christ to others. Let us commit to lives that are rooted in love, guided by humility, and centered on the example of Jesus. Glorious Father, You call leaders to be examples, not just in words, but in how they live each day. Form in us the character that reflects Your heart: steadfast, humble, gentle, and full of truth. Help us lead our families, churches, and communities with wisdom and integrity. Remind us that leadership is not about control, but about service. Give us courage to correct, strength to stand firm, and grace to lead with love. Whatever role we play in local churches, may our lives be trustworthy, and our actions speak of Your goodness. May we be pillars and supports of the truth. Thought Questions: Why should Christian men aspire to serve as elders in local churches? Describe the type of men God approves to serve as overseers. From elders to deacons to wives, what are common character traits among servants in local churches? Which of those needs your attention? How is the church “the pillar and support of the truth”? How do you contribute to that, and why must Jesus be at the center of it all?
Trending with Timmerie - Catholic Principals applied to today's experiences.
Image via Gilbert Parmonangan / Shutterstock. At Charlie Kirk’s public memorial in Arizona, his widow Erika urged mourners to “mark your soul again and again” through daily choices for Christ, quoting Charlie’s journal about how each decision leaves a mark on the soul. Timmerie guides you through Erika’s faith-filled call to prayer, Scripture, Sunday worship, and perseverance under trial. What happened at the memorial The tribute took place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, September 21, 2025. You might have seen Erika’s address, which many described as the most moving moment of the day. Her message centered on grace, forgiveness, and a life set apart for God. The heart of Erika’s message, as Timmerie highlights Timmerie zeroes in on a small, potent line from Charlie’s journal that Erika read aloud: “Every time you make a decision, it puts a mark on your soul.” From that seed, Erika invited people to "choose Christ again and again. Pray again. Read Scripture again. Go to Sunday Mass again. Break from the shackles of sin. She reminded everyone that discipleship is hard, and that Jesus promised the cross, not comfort. Timmerie then connects Erika’s call to the sacramental life. When good choices bring us close to Christ, we stay grafted to the Vine. When sin stains the soul, Confession restores us. This is classic Catholic spirituality: repeated acts that train love and form the will. And it is for every state of life, not only for public figures like Charlie Kirk. “Mark your soul” in Catholic terms -Prayer each day. Short prayers through the day keep the heart near God. -Scripture each day. The Gospels shape our choices and our speech. -Sunday worship every week. We keep the command – we receive the Lord. -Confession as needed. Grace wipes the stain and strengthens resolve. -Small sacrifices often. Love costs. The cross is our sign. Erika’s counsel matches time-tested Catholic practice. It turns grief into intercession, it turns shock into witness, and it builds a community that helps new believers grow. Here are some practical things you can do this week to practice holiness: -Welcome the seeker next to you at Mass. -Invite one person to pray with you this week. -Make the sign of the cross before meals – in public – with quiet courage. -Choose the good again. Then choose it again tomorrow. The saints made saints. That is how grace spreads – it starts with one small choice that leaves one clear mark on one willing soul.
