Hosts: Erin Rider and Taylor Morgan  Analysis of Pres. Trump’s first Cabinet meeting  While not a Senate-confirmed member of the Cabinet, Elon Musk dominated much of today's first Cabinet meeting in President Trump's second term. Some people were expecting a rather awkward meeting between Musk and the secretaries after a few of them pushed back on Musk's recent efforts to cut waste in their departments. Inside Sources has analysis of the topics covered and the direction Pres. Trump is taking his Cabinet.    On the Hill 2025: Legislature’s bill addressing elections laws released  A top priority for the Majority in the Utah House of Representatives this legislative session has been addressing concerns on elections. Earlier in the session, we spoke with State Representative Jefferson Burton about some of those bills. Now, we’re seeing some major updates to House Bill 300, which addresses vote-by-mail. Representative Burton joins the show again to answer questions from host Erin Rider and Inside Sources Executive Producer Andy Cupp.    On the Hill 2025: Funding Salt Lake City’s Downtown Revitalization project  Downtown Salt Lake City is going to see some major changes in the next few years as the Delta Center and surrounding areas undergo a massive transformation. But one question with all of this has been the future of the Salt Palace Convention Center... and who’s going to pay for it. The Inside Sources hosts discuss a Senate bill that addresses these questions.    On the Hill 2025: Restrictions on investors buying single-family homes  Housing availability and housing affordability -- we don't mean to sound like a broken record, but these are important issues to Utahns. And it's going to take a range of solutions to fix the issue. State Representative Gay Lynn Bennion is offering a proposal that would restrict investors from buying single-family homes, giving regular people a better opportunity to own a home. She joins the show to share more.    On the Hill 2025: Increasing housing density around transit lines, stations  In places like the Salt Lake and Utah Valleys, we’re eventually going to run up against the mountains or the lakes... running out of room to continue spreading out. This means we might need to focus on building upwards instead. And according to State Senator Wayne Harper, a great place to do that would be around transit lines and stops. He joins the program to explain the specifics of his bill.    The White House will decide which news outlets cover the Trump Administration  From the beginning of his second term in office, President Trump has said he would change how the administration is covered by the media. One of his biggest points was to open access to new media outlets. Yesterday, the administration made a pretty big change that goes against roughly 70 years of precedent. KSL NewsRadio News Director Becky Bruce joins to walk the hosts through some of the concerns being shared by journalists.    On the Hill 2025: Bills on judicial standing and appeals  Several bills in this legislative session address the role of the judiciary. A few of these bills address who can bring lawsuits before the courts and what the courts can do with things like appeals. A few weeks ago, we spoke about Senate Bills 203 and 204 -- both sponsored by State Senator Brady Brammer. Today, he joins Erin and Taylor for a discussion on the pair of bills.    Pres. Trump proposes penalties for migrants who don’t register with the government  Fines or prison time could be coming for migrants who are here illegally and don't register with a new database meant to track "aliens in this country illegally." It’s part of President Trump’s efforts to crack down on illegal immigration. The Inside Sources hosts finish the show discussing this registry and potential far-reaching effects.

The Black Cemetery Network (BCN) at https://blackcemeterynetwork.org is hosting an event in Tampa, Florida on 14 October 2023 from 10 AM to Noon to commemorate Black History and the Memorial Park Cemetery. It will begin with presentations at the C. Blythe Andrews Library, 2607 E. Dr. MLK Jr. Boulevard, followed by an on-site walk in the Memorial Park Cemetery next door. You are cordially invited to join us for this exciting event and to help spread the word. Drew Smith and I, along with volunteers from across the country, have been deeply involved with the Zion Cemetery Project in Tampa for several years. It seeks to document all of the people interred in the "erased African-American cemetery" and bring their stories to life. All of the tombstones were removed, and portions of the property were "developed," leaving this sacred ground partially covered by buildings and the cemetery erased. The University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa has been supporting and promoting this work. The Black Cemetery Network was established and strives to support and publicize efforts across the U.S. to trace the "erased" cemeteries and promote projects like the Zion Project to un-erase them and to honor those buried in these cemeteries. As the Zion Project work is approaching its end, Drew and I, USF, and the Black Cemetery Network are about to begin work on three (3) "erased" cemeteries in St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida, and beyond in that county. We are very proud to be part of these projects and to recognize and celebrate the lives of those early residents who built and shaped our communities. Registration for RootsTech 2024, the premier global family history conference, is now open. Carol Ansel, Director of the Godfrey Memorial Library (https://www.godfrey.org/scholar/godfrey-home.html), wrote to expand on Drew's description of their collection and services. Jean wrote about a recent search in the deed records in Suffolk County [New York] for an entry for her great-grandfather, Adolph J. Mueller. The deed concerned the sale of paint to the Charles H. Brown Paint Company for the sum of $1. She is looking for the reason why this transaction was recorded in a deed book. Nicole is researching her Dulaney ancestral line from Virginia, supposedly back to Ireland. Drew shared some insights during our last episode. Nicole describes her research and asks for recommendations for more records of Samuel Delany. Ashley wrote about her Irish research into Andrew Dickey triggered by a small Bible, inscribed to him in 1847. He was a teacher in Ireland. ***NOTE: The audio in the first eleven minutes might be a little challenging to listen to, but after that it improves. This was our first episode recorded outside of our Privacy Files studio. Recording remotely does introduce some additional recording challenges. In this episode, we were recording inside a convention center expo hall where we had to contend with a considerable amount of ambient noise from attendees walking the floor. We hope you understand. All in all, in this episode you will hear some insightful feedback from people about their views on privacy, safety and security. Thank you for your support. In this special episode of Privacy Files, we took the podcast on the road to the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah to talk to attendees at the 2023 Utah Bridal & Wedding Expo. The MySudo team took over a booth space for four hours on Saturday, May 20th and helped hundreds of people download the world's only all-in-one privacy app. We handed out lots of gourmet Crumbl cookies to booth visitors and sent them on their way with big smiles. The goal of this podcast episode was to capture the raw feedback of a few expo attendees. What does privacy mean to them? How important is privacy to them? Does "personal privacy" or "personal safety" elicit a stronger response? Do attendees use other privacy tools like a VPN, password manager or private browser? What about the timeless battle between aesthetics and functionality? When it was all said and done, we met some amazing people. Each had a unique story to tell. There were a few surprises along the way as well. Most importantly, we spread the word about data privacy and did our little part to help close the privacy knowledge gap. We hope you get something valuable out of this episode. Please help us in this mission to give people back control over their personal data by telling your friends and family about the Privacy Files podcast. Together we can win this fight. Becky Potts, Vice President, Regional Executive at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco's Salt Lake City branch, gives us a better understanding of The Fed and its work today. BECKY POTTS Here at the San Francisco Fed's Salt Lake City branch, we build active relationships with area business and community leaders to gain a broad picture of the economic conditions in our region. This helps to ensure that what's happening at the local level is reflected in our national monetary policymaking process. We always strive to be a community engaged bank that learns from and reflects the communities we serve. We believe opportunity is not a luxury—it's a necessity that should be accessible to everyone. To that end, we are using our tools and responsibilities to help create an inclusive economy, in which all people can fully contribute their talents and skills—regardless of their race or any other demographic factor. This work is vital to our mission of promoting a healthy and stable economy. I look forward to sharing more at the upcoming Utah Business Diversity Summit. Dr. Tom Portillo, Veterinary Research and Consulting Services, and Dr. Nathan Meyer, Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, join AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich to discuss the results of a recent study published in the Bovine Practitioner. The objectives of the study were to test a range of post-treatment intervals in cattle naturally infected with bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and treated with Zactran, a macrolide antimicrobial manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim. The investigators also evaluated if there was a difference between dairy-beef cross animals versus native beef animals. Identifying the ideal post-treatment interval can improve antimicrobial stewardship, efficiently manage labor, and improve welfare of animals by minimizing the stress of handling and time away from the home pen. Clinical trials are an important research tool to demonstrate the use of a product in a field setting when animals are affected by BRD. This study demonstrated that a 6-day or 9-day treatment interval provided the best health outcomes. We also discuss the importance of the Bovine Practitioner as a journal that provides peer-reviewed research targeted to practicing veterinarians. We encourage practicing veterinarians to develop on-farm trials and tips for partnering with academic and industry colleagues to submit research for publication. This podcast was sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health. Do you know how sometimes life gives you lemons? They say to take those lemons and make lemonade with them, but have you ever made lemonade? Squeezing those lemons takes time! Plus, you have to add so much sugar that stirring it until it dissolves takes forever! My point is that making lemonade takes a lot of time and effort. (I am also now craving a glass of lemonade. What have I done?) Anyway, life has gotten a bit too real for us here at Stolendroids Podcast, so we need to take a minute to catch our breath. But don't worry because we're not going anywhere! We're currently preparing for Salt Lake FanX on September 16th through the 18th at the Salt Palace Convention Center. We will be back in October doing what we love to do. In the meantime, if you have suggestions for topics we should discuss upon our triumphant return, hit us up on Twitter or Facebook and let us know. The Muppet Movie came out in 1979, which means it turns 40 this year. It is a movie that has been a staple in pop culture ever since. It is full of wit and humor and heart. For these reasons it has endured all this time. It starred the whole cast of the Muppets, from Kermit and Miss Piggy to Fozzie Bear and Gonzo. Every Muppet you know and love made an appearance in this film. The movie tells the story of how the Muppets came together and made their way to Hollywood and became big stars. It follows Kermit as he leaves his place in the swamp to follow his dreams to make others happy through entertainment. Along the way he meets the other Muppets, who join him on his trip to Hollywood. All the while, he is being pursued by Doc Hopper who would like Kermit to be the spokes-frog for his fried frog leg commercial. The film itself is full of great puns, huge Hollywood cameos including Orson Wells, Steve Martin, and Bob Hope, and many, many others. Then there’s the music. We dare you to talk about The Muppet Movie without singing along a little bit. We couldn’t do it, as you’ll hear in this episode. Jake, Tracy, and Val talk about all of this. They talk about what their favorite puns and cameos in the film are. Tracy sings like Kermit the Frog, and the team talks about what this film meant to them growing up. And, at one point, they even talk about which Muppet is their individual Spirit Muppet.Let us know who your Spirit Muppet is, as well as any other feedback about The Muppet Movie and this episode by sending your feedback to podcast@moviesthatmakeus.com. We’d also love to hear any suggestions you might have for future episodes and any overall feedback for our show. And, be sure to join us for our Movies That Make Us podcast live recording at FanX at the Salt Palace Convention Center on Friday, September 6, at 11 am. We would love to see you all there! Guest Bio: Dan Farr attended his first comic con event as a vendor, hoping to market 3-D illustration and animation software to the comic book and video game artists in attendance. He marvelled as he watched the enthusiastic attendees file in, dressed in costume or waiting to meet a favorite celebrity.Farr was star-struck, through not just by the caliber of celebrities he was encountering. He was hit by how much it meant to fans of all ages to talk with the stars of their favorite shows."I got pulled into the energy of that fandom and also the creativity of the cosplayers that were there," Farr said.As he attended conventions in major cities — New Orleans, Chicago, New York — he began to realize something. For the caliber of stars in attendance, the enthusiasm of the fans, and the population of the cities they were in, Farr was stunned that attendance wasn't higher. Then he decided he could increase it.In 2012, Farr began a transition away from DAZ 3D, a company he had helped establish, with the idea of starting a comic con in Salt Lake City. He started attending geeky conventions across the country in order to establish relationships, searching out celebrities and vendors he would eventually try to woo to Utah.Farr sought out a potential ally in Bryan Brandenburg, an entrepreneur and game developer he had first met in 1996 and had worked with at DAZ 3D and other companies. Brandenburg said he needed to at least see a comic con first, so Farr took him to the Wizard World convention in February 2013.In a flash, Brandenburg was hooked."After spending a couple days there, I said, 'Yeah, we could totally do this and be successful,'" Brandenburg said. He helped establish Salt Lake Comic Con a few weeks later.Together the two decided to hold a convention that fall, setting a goal for about 15,000 attendees.By September, the Salt Palace Convention Center was bursting at the seams with 70,000 delighted attendees and heavy hitters such as Marvel creator Stan Lee and "Star Trek" icon William Shatner on stage, far more than the pair had dreamed possible. In two subsequent events the next year, organizers drew 100,000 guests to the first FanX in April and 120,000 more to the second Salt Lake Comic Con in September.

This special episode of the RV Podcast comes to you direct from Salt Lake City, Utah, where we are attending the RV Industry Association’s glitzy new RVX show, which has brought nearly 5,000 RV manufacturers, dealers, suppliers and media to this cold, wintry city to kick off the 2019 camping season with the introduction of new RVs, RV-related technology and new products aimed at the camping public. We’ll have interviews, inside information and more direct from the show floor. Show Notes for Episode #233 March 13, 2019 of The RV Podcast WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK Part of the Reveal awards to the best in category RVs at the RVX show. This one is for the Unity 2020 Rear Lounge model from Leisure Travel Vans which won the best in the City Escape Category JENNIFER This is a busy week out here in Salt Lake City, where the area is under a winter weather advisory with lots of snow and high winds predicted during the show dates out here. We’re going to devote the whole podcast to this event out here, which is really a big deal as it’s done by the RVIA – the RV Industry Association, which is the influential trade group whose polices and promotions set much of the industry agenda. MIKE There was a lot of skepticism about this show this year. It replaces the traditional November show the RVIA did every year right after Thanksgiving in Louisville. That show suffered with dwindling attendance over its past several years because the Industry Open House in Elkhart, Indiana – the RV capital of the world -  drew away most of the dealers who felt they couldn’t afford two industry shows a month apart. So Louisville ended in 2017 and the RVIA promises to reboot the show with RVX, which will go to different cities each year. And this one is the first, but there’s a lot riding on it. I’m hearing from a lot of manufacturer reps we’ve talked to that many dealers are not here. March is a busy time for them as they prepare for the new season and, let’s face it, Salt Lake City in March is not exactly a garden spot this time of year. JENNIFER There may be snow and wind outside, but inside the Salt Palace Convention Center, it does look a lot like spring. The displays are big and glitzy and we do want to compliment the RVIA for adding a lot of excitement to every aspect of this, including big reveals of new RVs, even RV concept vehicles. It reminds me of the big Detroit auto shows we have attended, with a touch of the Consumer Electronic Shows in Las Vegas. MIKE We were brought out here by Leisure Travel Vans, and we’re doing some meet and grets with those attending RVX at their booth. Plus we will be doing a live YouTube broadcast on our RV Lifestyle Channel Thursday March 14 at 3PM right from the show floor. And we’ll be learniung as much as we can about what’s coming in 2019 for the industry, which we promise to share with you. JENNIFER Now we should point out that this show is not open to the public. It’s just for the industry. But we’ll do the best we can to be your eye and ears and let you know the big news from here. Speaking of RV news, let’s do a quick check on the RV News of the Week. RV LIFESTYLE NEWS OF THE WEEK JENNIFER The 2018 list of the 10 most visited U.S. national parks released last week More than 318 million people visited America's national parks last year, with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park remaining America's most visited park in 2018, with 11.42 million visitors. Next up was the Grand Canyon National Park, with 6.38 million visitors, followed by the Rocky Mountain National Park with 4.59 million. All the parks are gearing up for another big tourism year in 2019. We visited Arches National Park in Utah this past weekend and learned that there is quite a controversy brewing about a proposal by the National Park System to limit visitors to the park during the peak spring and summer season to only those who make reservations.

Zest Kitchen & Bar is a restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City that was launched by Casey Staker in late 2012. It's an organic, vegetarian, gluten-free restaurant with a fresh juice cocktail bar and they're right on 275 S 200 W, across from Red Rock Brewing, right around the corner from Squatters Pub Brewery and the Salt Palace Convention Center.Zest is trendy, it's upscale, and their food is lightweight and healthy. And at night, the cocktails flow, all crafted with fresh juice and ingredients with a creative twist. Drinks like a jalepeño margarita, a ginger spice whiskey cocktail with a fresh apple slice, and a summer beet sangria. But on the weekend nights, Casey's history in the nightclub business shows through: at 10p on Friday and Saturday nights Zest has music and dancing, and the small vegetarian restaurant goes from dinner to nightclub, with great DJs, music, and club atmosphere.Casey Staker's career started in 2004 when he bought into a new nightclub at the time, the W Lounge. And almost 10 years later, Casey closed it down to pursue his next project—a place he would actually want to hang out at—a restaurant with healthy food and drinks that's open late, and he could go to on the weekends. So in 2012, Zest Kitchen & Bar was born.On this episode of The Utah Foodie Podcast, we sit down with Casey Staker to talk about his life growing up in rural Utah, to running one of the hottest clubs in Salt Lake City, to today where he works out of Zest, dreaming up healthy food and cocktail menu items, and planning for expansion.—This episode of The Utah Foodie was hosted by Chase Murdock and produced by Ryan Samanka.
