Andi wrote the book.... Voices Against Trafficking: The Strength Of Many Voices Speaking As ONE and she talks about it in this interview. Every chapter provides essential truths and advice that affirm we can defeat the rising tide of human predators. Compiled by veteran activist Andi Buerger, these words demonstrate the power of joining as one voice against the evil of 21st-century slavery that is the business of global human trafficking. One voice has tremendous power. But when voices unite collectively to combat human trafficking and sexual exploitation, an unstoppable movement is born. And she answers the questions ... What is #HUMANTRAFFICKING ? Who are the victims? Why are people trafficked? Who are the traffickers? What are the most common forms of the crime? And after her interview I have a bonus interview with Seak Smith of Mom's Army To switch your cell phone to a company that supports the first and second amendment, First responders, our military, pro-life issues, and out Constitution go to www.patriotmobile.com/wwfa to get the same or BETTER coverage, competitive rates, and FREE activation. We meet our next guest, Pharaoh Jones, a.k.a., Pharaoh Beacon in his studio inside mega land, also known as TV and radio. Pharaoh's got a massive personality a large presence. He's always been an artist. A performer comes from a whole family of dancers. He had a daughter at 17, and that responsibility of being a father, and all that that meant gave him even more focus. Then he had never had to be his own person to be in charge of his own life, create his own empire. He's got a podcast he's got music he has shoes. He's like a mini Kayne west. His creativity is always been there, but somehow at age 30 it really blossomed and now he can't put a cover on it. We had a great chat around energy and Pharaoh shared his views that we are our own gate keepers, only you can let in good energy people. And the importance of being the best version of yourself. he does that by following his ambition of doing what he loves most. Finally, the most beautiful words from Pharaoh “happiness is a moment, don't seek happiness because it's fleeting. Seek peace, and in your pursuit of peace, you will find moments of happiness." Koncom októbra sa v Starej tržnici v Bratislave opäť vyhlasovali víťazi FeliX Business Award. Cenu minulý rok vytvorila Slovenská sporiteľňa spoločne s Indexom s cieľom odmeniť firmy, podnikateľov, samosprávy a inšpiratívne projekty, ktoré prispievajú k prosperite, modernosti a spoločenskej zodpovednosti našej krajiny.

THE OCD 100:Celebration Anniversary Blowout!!!It's the 100th episode of The OCD, and it's time to celebrate in full OCD-style, by talking about The OC just a little bit! There's too much celebrating to do to just sit around and talk about the seminal and underrated prime time soap of the early aughts. Mike and Ryan have their tuxes on, and of course have to invite Cassie and Katelynn from The Unnatural 20's to party with them! First up, the guys get the girls' opinion on the season 2 finale, because they weren't on any of the three podcasts it took for the boys to cover it. Then, the foursome discusses what the song Hide and Seak mean to them, before doing a deep dive on the SNL skit Dear Sister! If that wasn't enough, Cassie pits Mike, Ryan, and Katelynn in a knock-down, drag-out trivia battle. It seems like it's too much show, but it isn't, and don't say it again. The OCD is going to go on a bit of a hiatus after this, so hunker down and enjoy each second of this celebration anniversary blowout! Dr. Lynette Charity grew up in the 1950s in the segregated South, and was one of the first black students to attend her high school. She faced plenty of doubt when she announced she was planning to become a doctor, but ultimately she succeeded. Dr. Charity graduated with honors from Chatham College for Women in Pittsburgh, PA on a full academic scholarship, and earned her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. She became an expert in anesthesiology, working in hospitals and for the U.S. army. But after a 35-year career, she was ready for a change. When she knew she was looking for something else, Lynette turned to SEAK for help. But none of the alternate career paths they had set out really appealed to her. Luckily, through SEAK she met career coach Heather Fork, who was able to roll with Lynette’s unconventional dreams for her career change. When Lynette said, "Heather, I want to be a stand-up comic, lounge singer, voiceover actor," Heather didn’t back down. Instead, she convinced Lynette to sign up for Toastmasters, so she could take the first steps toward becoming a professional speaker. Lynette was resistant at first. After all, she’d given lectures and presentations for years. But she learned quickly that lecturing to a room full of medical students and residents was a far cry from the kind of public speaking she needed to learn. So she dove in, and started making Toastmasters speeches, using their programs to learn confidence, communication and the elements of storytelling. And, as it turned out, she was actually pretty good at it. Learning to Shine Lynette’s mentors at Toastmasters were seriously impressed with her talent, and they encouraged her to compete in speaking competitions. Her very first year, she won the competition in her district. She competed again the following year and made it all the way to the World Championships of Public Speaking finals held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She was able to share her story about growing up in the South with a completely new, international audience, and she placed third worldwide. It wasn’t first prize, but it was a huge success—and it felt good. “I was a rockstar! I felt really good walking around with my big old trophy. And this was a foreign country, and I was telling a story about the fact that I had grown up in the segregated South in the 1950s… And I did it using the Wizard of Oz, because a lot of foreign people don't know anything about segregation in America, so I tried to relate it to that, and I sang, I danced. I did it all in that speech! And people came up to me later on, wanting to know more about that part of history that they didn't know anything about.” Lynette knew she’d found what she wanted to do: speak, connect, and make people laugh. Now she just needed to find out how to make it into a career. Listen to the entire episode to hear the rest of Lynette's story. Smart lighting stole the show at the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Show (Autumn Edition) 2018. The Smart Lighting & Solutions zone and Smart Home Gallery attracted a flurry of global buyers, while seminars shed light on the latest industry innovations. Among the overseas exhibitors was Slovakia’s SEAK s.r.o.. CEO Heliodor Macko welcomes Asia’s proactive approach to producing intelligent lighting products, and hopes to leverage this energy to propel SEAK beyond the European market.
Hong Kong’s concurrent lighting fairs 2018 bring plaudits from major exhibitors for their examples of smart interior and exterior lighting. The world’s largest lighting marketplace is described as “fantastic” by Philips’ Bob van der Linden to introduce innovative technology and products while new Slovakian entrant Heliodor Macko of SEAK says Hong Kong’s fairs are the best for a “smart” introduction to Asia.
Welcome back to the PNC podcast. My timetable for the podcast prep this week was a little compressed because I spent 2 days attending the 15th Annual SEAK Non-Clinical Careers for Physicians Conference. And that put me a little behind. I recorded my observations during the conference, and I’m going to share those with you today. I wouldn’t ordinarily spend an entire episode promoting a conference, which is what this might sound like. However, many of you have asked about the conference, and I believe it’ll be helpful to tell you more about it. Some of you may need a little more information to help you decide whether to attend next year. To be clear, I have no affiliation with SEAK. And I registered and paid to attend just like everybody else. But this is the only meeting of its kind that presents an overview of career options for physicians. The SEAK meeting has two other unique features. 30 to 40 physicians working in nonclinical careers, including career coaches, meet with attendees in 15-minute appointments to provide advice and answer questions about nonclinical options. A small number of employers interested in recruiting physicians to nonclinical jobs attend the conference to answer questions and set up interviews. The SEAK staff confirmed that the conference continues to grow, with attendance easily exceeding last year’s. I estimated that there were well over 400 physicians at the meeting. In addition to attending the individual sessions, and catching up with friends, it was fun to speak with physicians at the meeting, to hear their stories. For example, I had a chance to chat with a physician while waiting for the first plenary session to begin. I’ll call him Robert to maintain his anonymity. He appeared a bit somber, as he explained how he lost his license and had been unable to practice while involved in litigation to recover it. His efforts were unsuccessful, so he decided to attend the meeting to learn about nonclinical careers he might pursue. Since I had attended last year’s meeting, I gave him advice to help him optimize his time at the meeting. I caught up with him later to see how things were going. I’ll describe his comments in a few minutes. I was impressed by the enthusiasm and optimism that many of the attendees expressed by the end of the meeting. At lunch on Sunday, I spoke with three physicians who were all very hopeful. An anesthesiologist nearing retirement was intrigued with becoming an expert witness. He could slowly build such a career part time while winding down his clinical activities. The others at the table had identified several leads on careers they were going to evaluate further. I spoke with a pediatric physiatrist at one of the breakout sessions. She was only a year into her clinical career. She found it unfulfilling and was considering several nonclinical alternatives. I was also pleasantly surprised that three physicians recognized me and told me that they enjoyed this podcast. That really helps motivate me to continue. They also gave me helpful feedback and ideas for future episodes. I ran into “Robert” several times during the conference, and each time he seemed very positive and more optimistic. When I asked him how things were going, he responded “fantastic” with a big smile on his face. There were too many take-aways to list them all, but a few stood out for me. The presenters and mentors all expressed a great deal of hope and optimism. In just 2 days, we heard about more than 25 potential nonclinical careers or part-time jobs. Many presenters emphasized the importance of networking when pursuing a new position. Several also mentioned the importance of maintaining a complete, professional-looking LinkedIn profile. Pharmaceutical companies have multiple categories of nonclinical career opportunities – with variations in desired educational background, travel requirements, and ability to work from home. Consulting, medical writing, and work as a medical science liaison are definite possibilities if you’re a foreign medical graduate or are not residency trained or board certified. Utilization reviewers are needed by hospitals, Independent Review Organizations and Health Insurers, and previous experience is often not required. Telemedicine can be a great job to meet your needs if you prefer to work at home, or as a bridge during your transition from clinical to nonclinical work. There is a growing demand for medical directors and chief medical officers in the field of hospital and health system Quality Improvement. I could go on, but you get the idea. There is an ever-expanding need for physicians willing and able to take on these and many other nonclinical careers. Attending the SEAK Annual Conference is one way to learn about those careers, while obtaining mentoring and exploring employment opportunities. Dr. Savi Chadha is regional medical manager and medical science liaison with Tardis Medical Consultancy. He received his BA in marketing from Loyola University, MPH from Benedictine University, and MD from St. James School of Medicine. Savi is a member of the Medical Science Liaison Society and a SEAK alumnus. I really enjoyed my discussion with Savi Chadha. It was so interesting to hear about his career as a Medical Science Liaison, or MSL. Here are some of the things I learned: While his MPH may have helped Savi get his first job, he said it is not a requirement. If you’d like to pursue a job as an MSL, Savi recommends that you start by speaking with any pharma sales rep that you know, and use their contacts to meet MSLs at their home companies. Going to the national pharmaceutical meetings is another way to learn about MSL jobs. There are 2 associations to look into: The Medical Affairs Professional Society and the Medical Science Liaison Society. Savi recommends a book called The Medical Science Liaison Career Guide: How to Break Into Your First Role by Samuel Jacob Dyer. Work as an MSL is one of the few nonclinical careers that does NOT require residency and board certification. An MSL position is fairly location-independent, but it may require significant travel depending on the size of the territory covered. This is the first of 2 interviews with a medical science liaison. I will post the second one in a week or two. Show notes can be found at vitalpe.net/epsiode050. You can also download a transcript by going to the show notes. I’m probably going to post a solo episode next week, in which I describe the kind of experience and skills health systems and medical groups are looking for in a chief medical officer, or CMO. So, don’t miss it if you have any interest in hospital management.
In this episode, John proviides a review of the most recent SEAK Conference - the 14th Annual Nonclinical Careers for Physicians - held in Chicago.

Guest: Steven Babitsky, JD Host: Matt Birnholz, MD Host: Michael Greenberg, MD Physicians of all ages and stages in their careers often look for a second occupation to augment their clinical and research backgrounds; others delve into that second career full-time after they are finished practicing medicine. A generally talented, driven and curious bunch, it is not uncommon to find these current and former physicians applying their medical knowledge and skills to another line of work, whether in politics, broadcasting or book writing. If you have thought about making a change, rest assured that it is natural to have a range of questions and potential concerns about the process; perhaps, too, you're not even sure what might be out there for you. Host Dr. Matt Birnholz welcomes Steven Babitsky, president of the non-clinical training service for physicians, SEAK, Inc., to answer these questions and provide important counsel on a range of other hurdles that could arise during your pursuit of a non-clinical career. Dr. Birnholz and co-host Dr. Michael Greenberg will weigh in on other ongoing issues, including the discussion over flu shots for healthcare workers: should all hospital employees be required to receive a seasonal flu shot, as some hospitals are mandating? Also, a new study indicates that physicians lack familiarity ...
