This week on the show, the great Yuka Honda. She's a New York musician. In the 1990s, she emerged from the fertile New York music underground with Cibo Matto alongside groups like the Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, and Luscious Jackson. She's collaborated with an extensive roster of musicians, including John Zorn,David Byrne, Yoko Ono, Sean Ono Lennon, and her husband, guitarist Nels Cline. Earlier this year, we taped the conversation you're about to hear. Some of it ran as text in the Across the Horizon zine that was available at Big Ears Music Fest. What is Across the Horizon? Well, it's a collaborative series from Bob Holmes of Suss and Northern Spy Records gathering together like-minded artists drawn “from the wide landscape of instrumental music” (including Luke Schneider, Marisa Anderson, William Tyler and more) to curate a series of digital releases that will culminate in a double LP compilation of stellar sonic explorations on August 13th. Under her Eucademix banner, Yuka has explored experimental electronics via two semi recent Farm Psychedelia EPs and her Across The Horizon contribution “A Long Slow Blink Before The Answer.” In this conversation, we get into food, art, language, and much more. You can read a full transcript of this conversation at Aquarium Drunkard, where you'll find 20 years worth of playlists, recommendations, reviews, interviews, podcasts, essays, and more. Our latest guest on Soundtracking is Kevin Macdonald, who joins us to discuss his extraordinary documentary, One To One: John & Yoko. Set in the period between 1971-73 when the pair lived in a tiny apartment New York's Greenwich Village, it revolves around the footage of their One To One benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, which was, remarkably, the only significant live performance of John's after he left the Beatles. We also get plenty of never-before-seen video of their time in the Village and a truly insightful series of telephone conversations. One To One was made with the blessing of the Lennon estate - with Sean Ono Lennon overseeing the remastering of the audio, which was only salvageable thanks to developments in technology.
On the Saturday April 12, 2025 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we’ll meet artist and musician Sean Ono Lennon. A new documentary called “One to One: John & Yoko,” is a look at New York City in the early 1970s through the actions of two of its most famous residents, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Newly restored footage, with remastered audio overseen by Sean Ono Lennon, of John Lennon’s only full-length, post-Beatles concert is intercut with talk show appearance, home movies and news accounts to create a sense of time and place. In this conversation we talk about the film and how, for Sean, working on it is “almost like getting more time with my dad.” Then, we’ll meet the creative team behind an intense new film called “Warfare.” Based on ex-Navy Seal Ray Mendoza’s real-life experiences during the Iraq War, “Warfare” is a harrowing portrait of modern warfare that sees a platoon of American Navy SEALs in battle with enemy combatants. On this show we meet co-directors Alex Garland and Rayn Mendoza and star D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai.

It contains 12 previously unfinished Bernie Worrell compositions and 1 unreleased Funkadelic song. It's been a two year labor of love for Evan and Bernie's widow, Judie. And the amount of guests on this double album is staggering. There's Will Calhoun from Living Colour, Mike Watt, Norwood Fisher from Fishbone, Marc Ribot, Fred Schneider, Sean Ono Lennon, Bootsy Collins, and a lot more. Evan tells me how he met and began working with Bernie, initially, and how they hung out at Evan's parent's house in New Jersey. He talks about his history with Bernie and how he and his record label, Loantaka Records, were tapped to head this project. It wasn't always easy to get the music together, but it gave some great stories, which he shares. So grab the album wherever you get music. Follow Evan @evantaylorthe artist or @loantakarecords. Interview with Evan Taylor Bernie Worrell Orchestra bandleader. Evan Taylor whose latest production is the posthumous Bernie Worrell: Wave From The WOOniverse about this release and some of his other diverse musical endeavors. Bernie Worrell: Wave From The WOOniverse is a double album concocted in fourteen cities, issued on 12” LP vinyl a day after Bernie's birthday, (April 19) on Record Store Day 2024 by Org Music in conjunction with Loantaka Records as a Record Store Day “exclusive.” As of June 28 it's also available via streaming platforms. The release will be accompanied by a bound-to-be viral video of the title track directed by Los Angeles-based dancer, Madeline Riley. Taylor has remained behind the scenes for most of his career. He worked in various capacities with Worrell, mike watt, Money Mark, Theresa Wayman (Warpaint), King Tuff, The Chapin Sisters, and Jimmy Destri of Blondie. He has made 1960's country-influenced records with members of Black Flag, participated in eclectic recording projects and performed with practically every member of Talking Heads. Evan's also released a string of critically acclaimed singles as part of the Art-Rock duo Purple Witch of Culver. Evan has never identified with the archetype of “cosmic Funkateer.” He grew up with diverse tastes that ran from The Beach Boys to Prince. As a producer his brand has been “staying off-brand.” In 2022, Taylor was presented with a unique opportunity he felt he had been preparing for his entire career. Bernie Worrell: Wave From The WOOniverse addresses the abundance of unfinished work Bernie Worrell, a prolific writer and visionary, left behind when he passed away in 2016. These compositions remained untouched for a period of decades, collecting dust on reels of two-inch analog tape. Eventually, the tapes were re-examined to analyze Bernie's nuanced and creative method. After a period of deep reflection, the Bernie Worrell estate decided it was time to complete his vision. With a series of Bernie's collaborators, contemporaries, and friends including Bootsy Collins, Sean Ono Lennon, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads), Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), Fred Schneider (B52s), Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto), Steve Scales, Marc Ribot, Fred Wesley (James Brown, Parliament), Marco Benevento, Stanton Moore (Galactic), Steven Bernstein, Daru Jones (Jack White), Will Calhoun (Living Colour, mike watt, Norwood Fisher (Fishbone), Jared Samuel Elioseff, Kyp Malone and Jaleel Bunton (TV on the Radio), Binky Griptite (Dap Kings), Nick Montoya, Paul Dooely, Alecia Chakour, Smokey Hormel, Ana Becker, Eric McFadden (Sgt. Splendor), Sarah La Puerta, Michael Rueben and many more innovators his initiative was completed with dedication to preserving the integrity of the magic which makes Bernie a beloved extraordinary soul. Also included on the album is a previously unreleased Funkadelic track, “Contusion,” which showcases Bernie's masterful work with the group. https://loantaka-records.com/ . http://evantaylormusic.com.

In the final episode of Eras: The Beatles, we hear the story behind The Beatles' final single Now and Then, including new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Narrated by Martin Freeman, the episode also features insight on the new track from Sean Ono Lennon, Olivia Harrison and Peter Jackson. In 1994, Yoko Ono gave Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr a selection of unfinished demo tapes recorded by John Lennon in the 1970s. Two of those songs, Free as a Bird and Real Love, were arranged and released on 1995's Beatles: Anthology project. A third demo was never completed. At the time, the tape was deemed too muddy to work with. But, decades later, a new machine-assisted learning programme, pioneered by Get Back director Peter Jackson and his team, made Now and Then, the final Beatles single, possible – with each Beatle performing on the track.Listen to the story of how it came about as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and more reflect on the decades and discuss the making of the band's last song.

Our guest on the show this hour is Micah Nelson, aka the Particle Kid, whose latest LP, Time Capsule, is an experimental, genre-bending work we highly recommend you hear. The album features contributions from from Margo Price, J Mascis, Jim James, Sean Ono Lennon, and Willie Nelson. As one of Willie's sons, Micah grew up surrounded by music – but the sounds he creates are as much inspired by punk, freak-folk, or avant-garde sentiments as the country and Americana music the Nelson name is known for. Time Capsule was recorded in many different places with many different people over several years, and Micah shares all about that process in today's interview.Part of Pantheon Podcasts

Today we are joined by Los Angeles-based musician and visual artist Micah Nelson. Micah, a prolific artist and musician of many disciplines, performs and releases under the name ‘Particle Kid'. Particle Kid's new sprawling epic double-LP, ‘Time Capsule', released April 22, ‘22 via Overseas Artists Records, pulls listeners down the rabbit hole to experience the music he's been making over the past five years. His self-described “experimental future-folk solo project” takes listeners on a nearly two-hour trip through various genres, ideas and sounds. An eclectic palette of sonic colors, both familiar and exploratory feelings painted together like a collage, as if 90s alt, 60s psych, 70s electric jazz, and some abstract future were all magazines—chopped up and somehow cohesively glued together by Micah's voice and lyrics as well as guest spots from Margo Price, J Mascis and Sean Ono Lennon, among others. Micah Nelson's diverse releases as Particle Kid have taken an exploratory bent, combining lo-fi loops and strange textural elements with more straight forward Folk and Indie Rock songwriting. Micah, youngest son of country music icon Willie Nelson and occasional member of brother Lukas Nelson's band, ‘Promise of the Real', has been performing since his live debut at the age of 3, playing harmonica on stage with his dad. Songs of Our Own: A Marital Tour of the Music That Shaped Us.
Hi Folks! Christmas is the winter holiday we choose to celebrate and this year for our Christmas bonus episode we wanted to cover John Lennon and Yoko Ono/The Plastic Ono Band's song 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)'. We ask the question: is this a protest song, Christmas song or both? We discuss the history of the song and artists as well as talk about Miley Cyrus and Sean Ono Lennon's version. And of course we talk about Celine Dion's truly bombastic version. Wherever you are this holiday season we thank you for listening and for your support this past year. Thank you!Intro/Outro Music:Upbeat Forever by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/5011-upbeat-foreverLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Happy Thanksgiving! Today on the show, we're re-airing highlights from our summer series "Iconic at 50" and looking at, or rather listening to, some iconic albums that turned 50 this year and digging into the political and social context in which they were made and their impact on both music and culture, including: Sean Ono Lennon, musician and son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, discusses how John Lennon's 1971 song "Imagine" was shaped by its time and has influenced music for generations to come. Andy Beta, music writer whose byline has appeared in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, NPR and more, discusses how Alice Coltrane's 1971 album "Journey in Satchidananda" was shaped by its time and has influenced music for generations to come. Loren Glass, chair and professor of English at the University of Iowa and author of several books including, most recently, Carole King's Tapestry for Bloomsbury's 33 1/3 series, discusses how Carole King's 1971 album "Tapestry" was shaped by its time and has influenced music for generations to come. Henry Rollins, host at KCRW and former lead vocalist of the hardcore group Black Flag, discusses how Black Sabbath's 1971 album "Master of Reality" was shaped by its time and has influenced music for generations to come. Jon Burlingame, music journalist who writes regularly for Variety, music-and-TV theme expert and host of "For Scores" podcast, discusses how Isaac Hayes's 1971 album "Shaft" was shaped by its time and has influenced music, and culture, for generations to come. Aaron Cohen, author of Move On Up: Chicago Soul Music and Black Cultural Power (University of Chicago Press, 2019) and professor at City Colleges of Chicago, discusses how George Harrison's concert and album "The Concert For Bangladesh" was shaped by its time and has influenced music for generations to come. Politics is about how we as a society come together to hash out what's important to us. Instead of politics, we talk about a 50-year old piece of music that does the same. On Today's Show:Sean Ono Lennon, musician and son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, discusses how John Lennon's 1971 song "Imagine" was shaped by its time and has influenced music for generations to come.

It's the end of 1975, and this transformative year in Beatles history would in many ways set a new standard for John, Paul, George and Ringo in the latter half of the decade to follow. George Harrison's latest single, This Guitar (Can't Keep From Crying), taken from his modestly successful Extra Texture LP, would be the last single released on the original Apple label, and subsequently fail to enter the billboard hot 100 singles chart. George may have entered the 1970's as a musical force to be reckoned with, but this disappointing showing cast some doubt upon the former fab's future commercial vitality. The Beatle to beat at the end of 1975 was the previously D.O.A Paul McCartney, whose group Wings were still running singles up the charts from their Venus & Mars album in December of 1975. Blocked from the Japanese leg of their wildly successful Wings Over the World tour, Paul and Linda returned home for the holidays to work on tracks for a heretofore unplanned Venus & Mars follow-up LP. The McCartneys also made time to stop by the Dakota building in New York City to pay a visit to John & Yoko, who were busy tending to the newborn Sean Ono Lennon when Paul and Linda arrived on their doorstep singing Christmas carols. The arrival of Sean signified a seismic shift in John's personal life - as Lennon had begun clearing the decks of work-related projects since the advent of Yoko's pregnancy earlier in the year. Ringo Starr, meanwhile, may not have had an album release in 1975, but his greatest hits compilation Blast From Your Past satiated fans for content heading into the Christmas season. The changes fortified in 1975 would continue on into the new year, and 1976 was poised to be a landmark for the heights of former Beatle success... It's the fall of 1975 and George Harrison's new LP Extra Texture is the most current musical offering from the former Beatles. For many, this album was a step in the right direction from the drug and depression-tinged Dark Horse LP from the year prior, in which the rock-bottom of George's personal life seemed to make its way to record. From the toe-tapping You (the album's first single and a top 20 hit in the US) to Smokey Robinson inspired tracks like Can't Stop Thinking about You, to the downright irreverent His Name Is 'Legs' (Ladies and Gentlemen), Extra Texture showed the world a George Harrison that was slowing inching his way back to the heights of earlier in the decade. Paul McCartney was busy eyeing new heights as well, with a massive world tour underway for his band Wings - flying high on the success of their Venus & Mars album from earlier in the year. As the band made their way halfway around the world for the Australian leg of the Wings Over The World tour, Wings found itself on the cusp of power-pop domination not seen for any former Beatle since their touring heyday. But while Paul and George had renewed commercial success on the mind, John Lennon was busy welcoming a great personal success to the world. Sean Ono Lennon was born to proud parents John & Yoko on John's 35th birthday, October 9th, 1975. This warm moment of family and new possibilities stood in stark contrast to the disarray of Lennon's so-called "lost weekend" in years prior, and signaled yet another big change for John in the years to come... This week, Spencer and Zach welcome longtime friend, collaborator, Grammy nominated recording engineer and fellow Beatles fan Steve Drown to discuss John Lennon's newly released “GIMME SOME TRUTH”, a collection of newly remixed Lennon singles and deep cuts.

Aparte, suena Samia, Nueva Vulcano, Bartees Strange, Mourn, Roy Borland… FOXES – Friends In The Corner VARRY BRAVA – Hortera SANTO Y DRAMA feat. Today's "Flash of Lightning" gives VB a chuckle! Hear more about what John Lennon's son, Sean Ono Lennon put out as a tweet today that made you 1) laugh and 2) feel his pain.
Leftists are claiming the big spending Morrison Government is heralding the socialist revolution. Let's see: troops in the streets, restricted movement, empty shelves. Sure smells like socialism. But it ain't.And why Sean Ono Lennon is right about China and Twiggy Forrest is wrong. And a giant brown-nose bear.

Hi guys, welcome back to Geeking Out Loud! On our fifth episode of Season 2, Maria talks about Miley Cyrus’ new single with Mark Ronson, featuring Sean Ono Lennon. John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s son teamed up with Miley and Mark to bring back one of his parents’ amazing hits, (Happy Xmas) War is Over. The original Holiday tune came out in 1971, and now, these wonderful artist felt it was time to bring it back. Oh wow, SPOILER ALERT, they were right. The single’s powerful lyrics and melodies carry this phenomenal and timeless tune. However, it feels a bit different than the original, and that’s because of Mark Ronson’s tricks as producer. Let’s chat about the wonderful twists they did on this classic, and what they chose to keep like the original! Song: Ikson - Heartbeat (Vlog No Copyright Music) Music promoted by Vlog No Copyright Music. Video Link: https://youtu.be/YQjlxD0IbtA

It’s five on the live, and we’ll be taking time to review our favorite Jack White live cuts featuring guest performers! In this all-new installment of our continuing series, your humble co-hosts have picked through decades of concerts both large and small to find our five favorite performances from Jack White with (or as) a special guest musician! Fortunately for us there's a lot of shows to choose from, with guests ranging from rock legends, to key influences, to contemporaries and beyond. Of course the grandaddy of them all occurred in 2015 when the Lazaretto touring band were joined on stage by the last member of Led Zeppelin Jack had still yet to play with: Mr. Robert Plant. That tour united many a musician in song, including Q Tip for an electric performance at Madison Square Garden, as well as both Beck and Sean Ono Lennon! From there we journey to Lake Wobegon for the one and only live performance by both Jack White and Margo Price, before heading back to Third Man in Nashville to witness an incredible moment on stage with Pearl Jam. All this, plus the return of Third People Kali Durga and Yvette Wilkins to hear a first-hand account of the Boarding House reach tour kick-off at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit! Dayna Manning chats about about recording with Sean Ono Lennon, capturing great vocals, using a metronome while tracking... and gives a bunch of great production tips! Dayna Manning is a songwriter, musician, turned producer when she was just 17 years old, producing Sean Ono Lennon on her track "My Kind" for her debut record "Volume 1" (EMI). From there, her recording opportunites led her to work with the likes of Jim Scott, Rick Rubin, Don Was, Tom Lord Alge and Dave Kalmusky, where she learned as much as she could about recording and production in the studio. Dayna has produced her own record Folkyo and her folk trio Trent Severn, as well as producing and engineering several national television commercials and branding an entire radio station, all from her home studio, in Ontario, Canada. Dayna firmly believes that production starts with a great song, so as a writer, she finds producing a natural fit.
