In this conversation Amy shares some of the things that have impacted her most in her FW journey - among others, learning to be curious rather than defending herself; becoming as emotionally healthy as she can be so she can do a better job of helping and leading others; and the power of her positive declaration, "I am good at other things" (listen as she digs into what this means for her). She also speaks about the impact of Faithwalking on the organization she leads, having invited multiple staff members to join her on the FW journey. This episode was recorded in March 2025.
In this podcast episode we discuss several topics. Indian Motorcycle sales were down for the forth quarter of 2024, Harley-Davidson dealing with tariffs, and motorcycle jump starters. Indian Motorcycles, founded in 1901, is one of America's oldest and most iconic motorcycle brands. After dominating the market in the early 20th century with models like the Scout and Chief, the company struggled and ultimately ceased operations in 1953. Over the next five decades, several revival attempts failed until Polaris Industries acquired the brand in 2011. Polaris successfully relaunched Indian, preserving its heritage while expanding with modern designs and a broad lineup of seven motorcycle families. The introduction of the FTR1200 in 2019 marked its only major innovation in recent years. The brand reestablished itself as a serious rival to Harley-Davidson, especially in the North American market, where it achieved record sales of 43,219 units in 2022. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE However, Indian's resurgence has hit a plateau. Sales have declined since 2022, with global registrations dropping to around 37,000 units annually. In 2024, the downturn steepened, with an overall decline of 12.4% through August, including a 15% dip in the U.S. and 9.9% in Europe. The brand's heavy reliance on the maturing U.S. market, which accounts for 64% of its business, and a lack of consistent product innovation, are seen as key factors in its recent struggles. Despite its rich legacy and strong branding, Indian faces challenges in sustaining momentum without broader international expansion and a more aggressive approach to new model development. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! With President-elect Donald Trump suggesting a 25% tariff on goods from countries like Mexico, Canada, and China, concerns are rising about how such measures might impact American companies—Harley-Davidson being a prime example. During Trump's first term, Harley was caught in a trade war between the U.S. and the EU, leading to potential tariffs as high as 56%, which the company estimated would cost over $200 million annually. Though it initially avoided these tariffs by exporting from its Thailand plant, recent EU rulings have closed that loophole. With Harley-Davidson's international operations accounting for nearly 40% of its motorcycle sales—particularly in Europe and Asia—new tariffs or retaliation from other countries could severely affect its bottom line. Beyond international trade tensions, there's now speculation about the U.S. imposing tariffs on Harley's own Thai-built bikes being sold domestically for the first time—an unprecedented move that could reignite past threats. While some voices continue to dramatize Harley's situation, citing minor downturns as existential threats, the company remains profitable, recently reporting a $119 million quarterly profit. Still, its visibility as an iconic American brand makes it a convenient target in trade disputes. As global politics shift, Harley-Davidson must navigate both economic realities and its symbolic status, balancing manufacturing strategies and diplomatic crossfire. “I can't do this, but it is the assurance that God is the Builder. Because if I could do anything in my strength, it's worthless. So, it's good that I can't do it, but God can.” Our wonderful Moms in Prayer Heartland Division Coordinator, Rachel Raih, joins us on the podcast today. She reminds us of the assurance, hope and peace that is found in trusting God to be our Master Builder. Her heart was stirred and now she has been praying in a Moms in Prayer group for 32 years! After serving for 10 years as our Iowa State Coordinator, she now serves as our Heartland Division Coordinator, overseeing seven states. She plans to continue to pray in a group as long as the Lord gives her the physical and mental ability. Her oldest son battled severe asthma which resulted in a number of emergency room visits and hospitalizations throughout his childhood on up to college. She would battle anxiety and fear whenever he developed a runny nose or cough and a feeling of dread would come over her. Many weeks he would be the one of the four children that were covered in prayer in her Moms in Prayer hour. This brought great peace, hope and strength. God answered so many prayers on his behalf and today he is healthy and his asthma is well controlled. Rachel lives with her husband, Darrel, of 44 years in Sioux Center, Iowa. They have four adult children and the wonderful blessing of being grandpa and grandma to seven grandchildren with number eight due to arrive soon! SCRIPTURES For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. Hebrews 3:4 NIV So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:27-28 NKJV Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22 NIV you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5 NIV Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. 1 Corinthians 3:8-9 NKJV But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 1 Corinthians 1:27 NIV Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. Psalm 127:1 NIV LINKS MOMS IN PRAYER New to Moms in Prayer? Kim Reynolds' desk to be signed into law.Senate File 542 would allow minors to stock shelves with items up to 30 pounds and load equipment into motor vehicles at 15, while 16- and 17-year-olds could serve alcohol in restaurants with parents' permission. Fourteen- and 15-year-olds could work later hours, and people over 16 could work the same hours as adults. The Senate voted 29-18 to pass the bill, with Republicans Charlie McClintock of Alburnett and Jeff Taylor of Sioux Center joining all Democrats in opposing.Republican supporters have said the bill modernizes Iowa's labor laws and opens new opportunities to young people to earn money. The bill was amended in the House this week, and matched in the Senate, to remove what minority Democrats saw as some of the most egregious provisions. The amendment removed language that would have allowed state officials to give waivers to 14- and 15-year-olds to work in jobs currently banned for minors as part of a work-based learning program. It would also require employers to keep minors from being employed by registered sex offenders and require employers to report a workplace harassment incident to the employee's parents and the state civil rights commission. After its initial denial, the Iowa Utilities Board has preapproved the Duane Arnold Solar projects in Linn County — marking a first for solar projects in Iowa.Interstate Power and Light Co., an Alliant subsidiary, originally asked the IUB for preapproval of 400 megawatts of solar and 75 megawatts of battery storage, along with their associated lifetime costs and rates. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Saturday, June 12, and Sunday, June 13. Your weekend weather forecast looks a tiny bit cooler than the last few days, with no chance for rain. According to the National Weather Service, it is predicted to be sunny with a high near 88 degrees on Saturday in Cedar Rapids. On Sunday it is predicted to be sunny again, with a high back up near 93 degrees. Gov. Kim Reynolds stepped up her criticism Friday of Biden administration officials' lack of transparency for flying 19 refugee children into the state to be transported to sponsor families without notifying her or other Iowa officials. The governor — speaking to a “People's Press Conference” talk radio show hosted by former GOP state legislator Jeff Angelo — said she was upset and dismayed that the federal government on multiple occasions denied that a transport had taken place before later admitting to it. Reynolds told the radio audience that potentially 2 children of the 19 actually stayed in Iowa, while the rest were moved to sponsors in other states. This was after she joined several Republican governors in refusing to take refugees from the border. Reynolds said the Biden administration lying about the refugees just proved that its final goal is ignoring the border crisis and letting illegal immigrants stream into the country. Inmates at the Linn County Correctional Center no longer will be able to receive family and friends for face-to-face visits. The county implemented video visitation in February after ending in-person visits last year because of the risks of transmitting COVID-19. Sheriff Brian Gardner said the jail has long intended to permanently move to video visits instead of in-person visits, but the pandemic sped up the process. The Johnson County Jail in Iowa City hasn't allowed face-to-face visits for at least five years, instead using video visits with guests either coming to the jail lobby or making a video call from home. Prisoner advocates criticized the decision, saying that a Zoom call is not the same as an in person visit. Former Vice President Mike Pence is headlining Rep. Randy Feenstra's inaugural Feenstra Family Picnic next month in northwest Iowa. The campaign event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 16 at the Dean Classic Car Museum in Sioux Center. "Vice President Pence has been a champion for conservative values and protecting innocent life throughout his public service," Feenstra said in a statement Friday. The picnic is Feenstra's answer to former Rep. Steve King's annual pheasant hunts in Akron — which were sometimes attended by notable conservative figures — and Sen. Joni Ernst's motorcycle ride across the state. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee made an appearance at Ernst's ride last fall. Pence, who was governor of Indiana before he became Donald Trump's vice president, has been considered a possible presidential contender in 2024.
