On this episode, Peloton's DJ John Michael returns to help Zach celebrate Gloria Estefan's magnum opus "gloria!" The colossal album that fuses latin dance pop with electronica, disco, and hip-hop celebrated it's 26th anniversary in the world and it's time to give this album the flowers it rightfully deserves. In this episode we do a track-by-track including it's singles "Heaven's What I Feel," "Oye," "Don't Let This Moment End" and "Cuba Libre" as well as dive into it's slew of remixes, megamixes, and medleys.
I've been looking forward to doing a Hex Hector anthology for a long time but he has such a massive catalogue of remixes, I wasn't sure as to how I would approach it. I decided to split it into two parts. The first part being remixes with BPM's from 126 to 132 and the second part with remixes from 132 and up. That being said, it took me three weeks to select a body of mixes for part one and narrow that down to the final 32 tracks featured on this first edition. From what I've been able to find out, Hex Hector (Hector Ortiz) started producing music back in 1992 in New York. His sound was synonymous throughout the 90's and 2000's where he became famous for remixing songs for artists such as Deborah Cox, Whitney Houston, Gloria Estefan, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Ricky Martin and the list goes on. For anyone who was going out to clubs in that era, you would be well aware of his mixes of songs such as "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" by Deborah Cox and "Heartbreak Hotel" by Whitney Houston. Hex's mixes took us on a journey and generally clocked in at 8 minutes plus. Not like the 'extended mixes' of today which barely make it to 3 minutes. He mastered the drop and build in infectious house/club mixes and playing one of his mixes (of which I played many) would guarantee the dance floor being full. Hex worked with a few regular producers such as Dezrok, Soul Solution and Jonathan Peters and he even formed a production duo with Mac Quayle called HQ2. The man is a true legend of the club world and this first edition of the best of Hex Hector features 32 all time classic house and club remixes over 4 hours which are guaranteed to keep you moving with your hands in the air. How do you get to know your soul? Today I talk with Vanessa Loder, finance and private equity VP turned women's career leadership expert, TEDx speaker, and writer. Vanessa is a certified Executive Coach, trained in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, past life regression hypnosis and Vipassana meditation. Her personal awakening and transformational work have led to thousands of brilliant, overwhelmed women finding their way back to soul, something her new book “The Soul Solution” helps with. Listen in to hear about tuning into your own energy and the multidimensionality of our souls. Topics We Discuss: [3:26] Vanessa's story. She got to the top of the corporate ladder and thought she'd have more happiness, fulfillment, meaning and purpose in her life. A lasting sense of accomplishment seemed to elude her. She began reading spirituality books, did a hypnosis training and dove into past life regression work. This was how her awakening began in 2009. [8:25] You don't have to move, leave your relationship, or quit your job in order to have a more soul-aligned life. A lot of small choices and micro-moments can create that connection and attunement. It can be as small as having a five minute ritual in the morning. [10:01] Follow your “energetic breadcrumbs” - inner guidance and little nudges. We need space in our daily lives to receive this guidance. “The Soul Solution” is about learning to listen and trust your intuition and deeper knowing. Ego is incessant, loud, pushy in your head. Soul is gentle, pulls you towards things. You can be aligned with something, but not energetically aligned at the moment. [16:57] Energy needs to precede action, so take time to check in and ask yourself from moment to moment: Where am I right now in my energy? What do I need? Do I feel called to do this thing or am I pushing myself? Stay aware of subtle shifts in your energy field. [18:06] Gold standards vs North Stars. Gold standards are what society tells us we should be achieving. We internalize them and when we fail to meet them, we go into shame and self loathing. Vanessa found it helpful to take a step back, name these standards, and wonder when and why she started to believe these unconscious goals. Follow your North Star - an ever-evolving beacon that you personally strive for. [23:04] Vanessa checks in with herself every week to see if she is living in alignment with her core values. Every year she also likes to tune into a word for her year. This is the specific word, value, or quality of being that she really wants to call in for the year. [27:06] Many women fall into “distorted caregiving”. Patriarchal attitudes often teach women to care for others above themselves, which can make them sick. [29:29] Vanessa's spiritual journey started with past lives and past-life regression. She began working with the Council of Light and the Blue Council a few months later. She eventually connected with an aspect of her soul on another planet - “multi-dimensional bleedthrough”. [37:16] Vanessa's multi-dimensional bleedthrough experience. We can heal other aspects of our oversoul in other time, space, and dimensions by healing and integrating lessons here. [42:19] Star seeds have aspects of their consciousness that originate off Earth. They came here for a specific reason - to assist in the awakening and expansion of consciousness happening on Earth. We must each claim our own authority with spiritual and energetic experiences. FOLLOW VANESSA LODER: Find Vanessa on her website or on Instagram. On episode 79 of Outside The Studio: Women are grateful for a seat at the table, but don't question how the table is set. Tessa Tovar and Vanessa Loder sit down and discuss what it means for women to have it all in the modern world, how they both left corporate America, and take a guided meditation in balancing hustle with flow. Vanessa Loder is an inspirational keynote speaker and sought-after expert on women's leadership, mindfulness, stress management and sustainable success. She is the author of several books including The Soul Solution: A Guide for Brilliant, Overwhelmed Women to Quiet the Noise, Find Their Superpower and (Finally) Feel Satisfied. Timestamps (00:00) Who is Vanessa Loder (01:40) Preparing less (03:35) Can women have it all? (06:05) Did I choose the wrong path? (11:50) Myth of the toxic hustle (15:40) Guided meditation (22:00) Permission to not be ready (27:15) Energetic Breadcrumbs (29:30) Five step process (35:05) Modern world and connecting to nature (43:35) Women are grateful to have a seat at the table (48:00) What if being busy was not a badge of honor? (51:00) Closing thoughts Key Takeaways 1. We often ask if women can have it all with motherhood and a successful career, however why don't we ask the same of men? What if Women focused on asking themselves what they want to do, rather than what someone else wants or needs? 2. Women are often grateful for a seat at the table, but don't question how the table is set. Vanessa describes how there shouldn't even be a table, we should all just be sitting on bean bag chairs, meaning that there shouldn't be a hierarchy of order or presence, but rather an even playing field. 3. Balancing the energy of hustle and flow in your work space is imperative to maintaining harmony. Meditate on how your body feels pressure during stressful deadlines and contrast it with the feeling of peace in your workflow. 4. Pay attention to what you're paying attention to. Follow the "energetic breadcrumbs," the bits and pieces of inspiration, and flow with the cycles of motivation, work, and peace. How can you determine the next right step for you? How does the universe send you signals you are on the right path? What are some key steps for tuning out external ‘noise' and accessing authenticity? How can the “SAT” method (surrender, allow, trust) help us to get more of what we want with ease? These are some of the questions I explore with keynote speaker and author of The Soul Solution, Vanessa Loder. Vanessa has an MBA from Stanford University and spent close to a decade working in finance on Wall Street and Silicon Valley, only to suddenly feel like she has reached the top of the wrong ladder. (A common experience! And one which is important to discuss). This episode is all about giving you guidance on finding what is meant for you in love, work & life! So ditch your parents' views of success, or even that of wider society and forge your own path, for your own fulfillment, joy & meaning. Vanessa Loder was a successful VP at a private equity firm, swiftly making her way up the corporate ladder, when she had a striking realization: Everything on paper looked great, but inside there was this feeling that something was missing… In this paradigm-shifting podcast, Tami Simon speaks with Vanessa Loder about her new book, The Soul Solution, and the "star seeds of awakening" we are called to become at this time. Listen in as they discuss: past-life regression and the insights it can provide; the courage to listen to "the whispers of your soul"; following your "energetic breadcrumbs"—the inner impulses that will lead you to your most fulfilling life; the intersection of creativity, making money, and doing what you love; finding your role models; working with fear, anger, sadness, and other challenging emotions; unwinding the myths we tell ourselves; how to "break up with busyness"; the "power hour" practice; allowing ourselves leisure time and pleasure; visualizing your greatest future; and more.
One beautiful thing in the exploration of your own magic is the discovery of allowing yourself to "have it all" in a way that is not defined by society, but by you... and your soul. Vanessa Loder is a women's career leadership expert, writer, TEDx speaker, and author of The Soul Solution. In this episode, we discuss the power of following your own "energetic breadcrumbs", creating work you love without having to follow the formula of today's hustle culture/boy's club, quieting the noise to hear your soul whisper, discovering your superpower, and the soul solution. We also talk about her writing process and experience before, during, and after the completion of the book. The hustle to overachieve at work and at home--all in the hopes that we can “crush it” until we finally feel fulfilled--leaves many of us feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. In her new book, Soul Solution, author and coach Vanessa Loder explores how we can recover our joy by creating our own road map for living instead of following the one that's been handed to us. Thurs Sept. 29th. Just join our Pain Free Life Squad FB Group and we'll send you all the details (especially the one about winning a 1:1 coaching session with me!!): https://www.facebook.com/groups/painfreelifesquad Now on to the show: Vanessa Loder, Author of "The Soul Solution: A Guide for Brilliant, Overwhelmed Women to Quiet the Noise, Find Their Superpower, and (Finally) Feel Satisfied," is a phenomenal woman and leader helping women create the life they want! She talks about how one dream manifested her book (though it took years of experience) to help provide a roadmap for women to find their inner truth, to come home to themselves instead of people pleasing, and the "shoulds", and all the roles and expectations women live up to. Vanessa Loder was amazingly successful on Wall Street and got her MBA from Stanford, but what she calls "energetic breadcrumbs" and "soul whispers" led her to her true calling. Helping women climb their own ladder and define their own success. Vanessa knew something wasn't quite right, and didn't feel successful on the inside even though she was successful in her corporate career (what she calls climbing the wrong ladder!). She felt drained and exhausted after work, and she almost made the leap, but fear kept holding her back. Until one day, she stepped in to her true calling. And has redefined success for herself! She also learned past life regression hypnosis with Brian Weiss, MD who I'm a huge fan of! And if you don't know about his work, check our his book "Many Lives, Many Masters" Listen to this episode! She gives us so many gems on morning rituals, and meditations. She even has a free 30-day meditation in tiny bite sized amounts that you CAN do! Even for all the women out there that say they can't meditate, this is for YOU! Check out her book "The Soul Solution" and you'll be well on your way to alignment with yourself and see all your gifts finally come out! Party Favorz is back with volume 2 of the Ultimate Gay Anthems & Pride Classics and the gay just keeps getting gayer. To be honest, I only had an outline in my mind about what I wanted to achieve with this 'ultimate' gay anthems series. It wasn't until I started putting it together that I realize just how difficult it was going to be. In most cases, I'm trying to stick with the original versions but in other instances — I'm finding it better to go with more current remixes of the same track to keep the pace and overall flow tight. This becomes more evident once volume 3 drops later this week. No need to worry because these updated remixes stay true to the original. Because of the diverse styles included here, I found that key mixing only works for some songs but the need to change direction becomes necessary so as not to have the same style used for long stretches. That's where matching the percussive elements of each song come into play even when the styles are different. There is no software for that and it's just something I learned to do a long time ago when I either got stuck or needed to change the energy of the mix. Equally, I find myself having to re-edit many of the overly ambitious remixes that have extended drops that take you nowhere. That only happened twice in this set but considerably more in the upcoming volumes. However, I did leave 'Un-break My Heart' by Toni Braxton alone this time. This is the first Hex Hector remix that really sparked his star (even if it was done with Soul Solution) but it was clear he hadn't totally worked out his drop technique yet. Editing this song is easy but since I've never let it run all the way through before — I thought this would be the time to leave it in its full glory because it's not overly long. Any of you following the Roe v Wade issue currently exploding in the United States know that I get overly heated on political issues. After the draft opinion by SCOTUS was leaked in advance of its official release in late June — I've become inconsolable — and you should be too. What I see coming down the pipeline affects everyone — not just women. I'll have more to say about it likely at the end of all these Pride mixes because I want to be as clear and precise as to the fallout from this decision and how serious we should all be taking this. For now, I just want everyone to be free gay and happy. Lot's a great stuff heading your way. Until the next time...ENJOY! I don't have any special commentary on this particular set other than it's an extension of everything already released. There are a lot of golden nuggets included here and volume 4 speaks for itself. I'll be putting the finishing touches on volume 5 today and will then start on volume 6. The final two volumes of this series will drop later this coming week. The annual Fall Edition will drop the following week (as there is a ton of promos clogging up my inbox at the moment) and our normal schdedule for the latest releases will resume. I know y'all have been eagerly anticipating new music and they will be heading your way shortly. Until then...ENJOY! Party Favorz is back with volume three of the Ultimate 90's House Classics [1998 - 1999] and this set dives deep into progressive territory. We kick the party off with one of our all-time favorties 'Lately' by Divine with Joanathan Peters performing remix duties. With it's ubeat synths and fantstic harmonies — 'Lately' packed floor every time it dropped. Of course all the club favorites from this era are here like Faith Hill's 'Breathe' and the sweeping Hex Hector accompanying remix, 'Sexual' by Amber (a Thunderpuss instant classic), 'I Will Go With You' by Donna Summer that was packaged with the some of the biggest name DJs from that period, 'Someone To Hold' by Veronica showcasing Johnny Vicious' versatility who would go on to be an in demand DJ in the early millennium, Whitney Houston's defiant 'It's Not Right, But It's Okay' (another Thunderpuss instant classic that takes the R&B original and jacks it up by a factor of 100 while blowing a hole in the roof with Whitney's powerful vocals - thank you Clive) and the massive 'You're Still the One' by Shania Twain courtesy of Soul Solution. Some of you may be looking at this track list and scratching your heads over the inclusion of 'Ojos Asi' by Shakira. I grew up in South Texas and the Columbian born singer was already a massive star through Central America, Mexico and various pockets of the United States with large Latino populations. The song has a strong middle eastern sound and was not like anything else on her fourth album the critically acclaimed and multi-platnium 'Dónde Están los Ladrones? It was tacked on to what was otherwise a more rock and acoustic album that elicited comparisons to Alanis Morissette. Once the video dropped for 'Ojos Asi' all bets were off. The song blew up and Shakria had arrived. Under the tutelage of Emilio Estefan (husban of Gloria Estefan), Shakira was primed to cross over into the American market and it would be two years before she dropped her first English language album 'Laundry Service' in the states. The remix for 'Ojos Asi' is often credited to Thunderpuss but was actually Pablo Flores who was also producer on her album. The song was an instant floorfiller upon its release in 1999 and frankly, fits in nicely with the tracks that surround it. Before there was Todrick Hall or Lil Nas X — there was Kevin Aviance. 'Rhythm Is My Bitch' was his second of three #1 dance club hits, which followed his 80's remake 'Din Da Da' and was proceeded by 'Alive' in 2002 with two other top 5 releases 'Give It Up' and 'Strut.' He had a cameo in Madonna's 'Secret' video and has worked with Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston. He was also a member of the vogue-ball house 'House of Aviance' and was a gender bending leader who paved the path for others. Check out the video below: https://youtu.be/Nk7GilPqr1I I've still got two possibly three more sets to go in this series. I'm setting a goal of getting them all out this next week without sacraficing tracks or quality. It gets harder once you start getting to the bottom but I'm convinced I can work it out. After a multitude of successful girl groups throughout the nineties — it was time for the boys to give it a go. While TLC was on the tailend of their fame with their explosive release 'FanMail' — the girls were in disaray with constant infighting which ultimately caused them to collapse. Enter stage left, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and 98°. Even though most dance music wasn't being aired at radio (with a few notable exeptions i.e. Cher), the major labels were adept at crosspromoting their artists from radio to the dancefloor. This is where Hex Hector, Davidson Ospina, Soul Solution, Thunderpuss, Pablo Flores and Jonathan Peters come in. These DJs were already having great success in the clubs and easily took their winning formula and applied it to pop hits. Because this period is such a magical time for me, this final series covers a lot of ground from these two years and may even be a tad indulgent. Nevertheless, there was no stone left unturned in creating this final farewell to the nineties. It wasn't my intent to drag this on but unfortunately, there have been a series of diversions this past week that have kept me from knocking this series out. I'm only now getting back into the groove of things so all I ask is for a little patience. Once this series is finished, Party Favorz will be launching back into our regular scheduled releases in October. The Legacy release I had planned will be pushed into November. I should have at least one more release for the weekend followed by the rest next week. Until the next time...ENJOY! Party Favorz started the Ultimate 90's House Classic series in the fall of 2020. The overwhelming response to this series has been tremendous — certainly bigger than I thought it would be. A year later, we're now reaching the end of the decade and have pulled out all the stops for what is certainly considered the golden age of House Music. As we noted in earlier editions, the musical landscape began changing in the second half of the decade. After bubbling in the underground for several years before moving into the mainstream, Trance music took on a life of its own. While those tracks are not featured in this series (they'll get their own ultimate classics series soon enough) — Progressive House was the alternate powerhouse genre in the movement fueled by Hex Hector, Victor Calderone, Thunderpuss, Jonathan Peters, Peter Rauhofer (a.k.a. Club 69), Danny Tenaglia, Rosabel, Razor N Guido, Pablo Flores, Junior Vasquez and Johnny Vicioius who blurred the lines between Progressive House and Trance. Probably one of the biggest unsung heroes from this time period is Soul Solution who consisted of Bobby Guy and Ernie Lake. These guys were the go to for many commercial remixes and there's a story there that I can't seem to dig up so I'll just go by what I remember. Don't hold this as gospel because I'm only going by what I remembered. Maybe someone else can shed more light on this story. Soul Solution was their brand but if I remember correctly, the trademark was owned by a major label. When they attempted to leave the label, they weren't allowed to take the name with them. Since their brand was built under this name, it was near impossible to market themselves independently. Though, Ralphi Rosario from Rosabel managed to break out on his own as did Chris Cox from Thunderpuss and Guido Osorio from Razor N Guido but Bobby Guy and Ernie Lake were not household names. It's likely why Hex Hector (who had worked with the guys on the breakthrough remix of Toni Braxton's "Un-break My Heart" in 1996) picked up the slack in the coming years even though he was already in high demand. You'll likely remember a lot of their remixes but less so who remixed them. Party Favorz is here to set the record straight as much of their work will be featured over the next several sets. The major change in club music was no accident but something that was in the making for the better half of the decade and is fondly remembered by club kids (including myself) with 1999 through maybe 2001 being the best the genre servered up. As musical tastes changed, Progressive House eventually gave way to Electro House — another genre that came up through the underground. From some of the more obscure tracks, the biggest club hits including that whole short-lived Ibiza sound — TU90HC has got you covered. I had a lot of fun creating this first set and was taken back by Monifah's "Touch Me," which I had completely forgotten about. There will be a lot of these gems over these remaining sets that are gonna jog your memory and put a smile on your face. Until the next time...ENJOY! Earlier in the decade, Freestyle, Breakbeat, Trip Hop, Hip Hop and Eurodance were all offshoots of House music that went on to be fused together or evolved into their own distinct categories. More notably, the second half of the nineties witnessed a sea change in House music. While Classic House continued to be a staple on dance floors — the sound became more progressive, electronic and tribal as club culture began looking for something fresh and new. Enter Club 69 (Peter Rauhofer), Thunderpuss, Victor Calderone, Tony Moran, Hex Hector, Jonathan Peters, Soul Solution, Rosabel (Ralphi Rosario), Razor N' Guido, Vission & Lorimer and a host of others. The one consistent in this area was Junior Vasquez who easily switched between edgy commercial House and the big tribal beats that would eventually claim the dance floor. In fact, it took the Soul Hex remix (Soul Solution + Hex Hector) of Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart" for the labels to take notice after it exploded all over the dance floor. For the sake of this series — the excellent Frankie Knuckles version was included on volume one of this series. That being said, this new style of music steadily became more dominant that it begins to take over this four volume series and explodes by 1998 - 1999. Other notable mentions in this period are Full Intention, StoneBridge and Love To Infinity who developed a tougher house sound that was commercially appealing and Armand Van Helden with his signature garage house style that sometimes veered into other worlds. The other offshoot that exploded was Trance. Trance had been bubbling in the underground with rave parties that were popular in the UK in the early nineties and eventually found their way over to the US. That's an entirely separate category and will be prominently featured in its own tribute later this year. Just know that many of the big names in Trance started out as house DJs. Rollo & Sister Bliss, Perfecto, Sash! and BT were all making house music prior to jumping over to this genre where they found massive success. After finishing volume two — I've decided to re-visit some of the earlier Legacy entries like Frankie Knuckles, Peter Rauhofer, Thunderpuss and Hex Hector. The original sets feel incomplete and can certainly be improved upon. I'd also like to incorporate more Club 69 remixes into Peter's tribute set since the moniker was key to his overall success. Those are being considered for a much future date as I got a lot on my plate at the moment. In the interim, soak in this heavenly slice of House music history and be sure to turn it the fuck UP! I should have volume three out on Saturday or Sunday and the final fourth volume for this period sometime next week. Until then...ENJOY! Tina Turner (born Anna Mae Bullock; November 26, 1939) is an American-born Swiss singer, songwriter, and actress. Known as the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll", she rose to prominence as the frontwoman of Ike & Tina Turner before launching a successful career as a solo performer. From her time as frontwoman for Ike & Tina Turner to her 1984 breakthrough album "Private Dancer" it's difficult to put into words the impact Tina Turner has had on popular music. From a fractured childhood, an abusive marriage that introduced her to the masses, 12 Grammy Awards, the first black artist (female or otherwise) to grace the coveted cover of Rolling Stone, an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to one of the best-selling artists of all time — Tina Turner's accomplishments are an astonishing feat that most people can only dream of. From 2008 - 2009, Turner embarked on a worldwide tour that sold out venues across the globe and declared it to be her last. Eight years later, she would return to the stage for her "Tina! 50th Anniversary Tour," which went on to be the 9th highest grossing tour in 2009. Tina Turner was a pop singer, soul singer and considered the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll" for her raucous performances and reinterpretations of other artists works. It may seem odd that Party Favorz would induct her into the Diva Hall of Fame because she was not a disco or dance music artist. Nevertheless, much of her music from the 80's was available in extended dance versions popularized at the time. By the time the 90's kicked in, it was not uncommon for pop and rock artists to be remixed for the burgeoning House Music scene. Sadly, much of her music didn't really translate well to this format or at the very least it's clear many of the big-name DJs at the time had difficulty with the transition. It's not clear how Turner felt about the remixes as none of them were ever a major hit until the release of "When the Heartache Is Over" from her final album "Twenty Four Seven" written and produced by the team that resurrected Cher's career with "Believe" the previous year. However — not unlike say Stevie Nicks who is also inducted into the Diva Hall of Fame — Tina Turner is a gay icon with legions of gay fans thus the justification of her induction. This tribute set strays from the normal way I mix things only because it spans decades of music in a variety of styles, genres and tempo. It was not possible to key everything together and so there was a heavy reliance on beatmatching to keep the flow consistent. The Hex Hector remix of "When the Heartache Is Over" is included because it's rare even though it appears to be unfinished. I went back and created a mixshow edit for a more cohesive mix. On the other hand, Soul Solution basically phoned in their remix of "On Silent Wings" forcing me to cut it down into a more manageable mixshow as well. Overall, this set is a B+ in my book and likely the best anyone will get without re-working most of the tracks. It is meant for hardcore fans of which I know there are plenty because I've had a lot of you suggest it to me. It was Kygo's rework of "What's Love Got To Do With It" that finally got me to go back and look at these songs again. Tonight, HBO is airing the much anticipated documentary "Tina" on their platform. Ms. Turner is now 80 years old and not in the best of health and this is a final farewell to remember the woman, her gifts, remarkable career and the much joy she has brought to the world during her 60 year career. It is my distinguished pleasure to honor the one and only Tina Turner into the Diva Hall of Fame. ENJOY! And the 90's House Classics just keep on rollin'! Surrender Yourself is chalk-full of classic house music favorites but also has what I like to call the early incarnations of that circuit sound. The Junior Vasquez remix of Body To Body (Keep In Touch) by Shades of Love and Soul Solutions remix of Changes by So Pure reflect the tribal beats that evolved into today's modern-day circuit house music. Changes is one of Soul Solution's earliest remixes and frankly was a bit of a mess, so I re-edited it to tighten the sloppy drop and give it more cohesion. These guys (Bobby Guy and Ernie Lake) were on a roll at a time when the DJ's were becoming defacto superstars in their own right. Because of a label dispute that owned their name, they eventually dissolved paving the way for Hex Hector (who they had previously worked with) to pick up the slack and go on to be one of the biggest and brightest stars coming out of the 90's. Because of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday or as they call it in the UK Thursday, I will be releasing the final version of this House Classics series tomorrow. Also, keep in mind I've got a ton of stuff dropping over the course of the next two weeks so be sure to pay close attention to this site because they will be coming out in rapid succession. Songs like "Body To Body (Keep In Touch)" remixed by Junior Vasquez and "Changes" with Soul Solution's unique touch serve as milestones on the road to today's multifaceted dance music landscape. Speaking of "Changes," this track holds a unique backstory. It's one of Soul Solution's nascent remixes, and let's be honest, it was a bit disjointed. So, we took the liberty of editing it for a more cohesive experience. Soul Solution duo Bobby Guy and Ernie Lake were trailblazers, quickly rising to prominence in the 90s Classic House Music era. Yet, they eventually parted ways due to a label dispute, which in a twist of fate, opened the gates for Hex Hector—a collaborator they had worked with—to ascend and become one of the 90s' most luminary DJs. The tribute mix boasts an eclectic range of artists and DJs. From the Reese Project's "The Color Of Love" remixed by Underground Resistance to MK's "Always" featuring Alana on the NY Stomp Remix, each track captures a facet of the 90s Classic House Music era that's worth revisiting. It's a vibrant mix that beckons you to relive those dance floor moments that defined a generation. So whether you're a house purist or a circuit aficionado, this set offers a rich palette of sounds that encapsulates the diversity and innovation of 90s Classic House Music. Oh no, say it ain't so! Yup, we have finally arrived at the final set paying tribute to the genius that is Hex Hector. To be honest, Hector didn't create all of these mixes himself. He has partnered with several folks for the final product throughout this eight set series. Dezrok, Soul Solution and even Jonathan Peters helped him flesh out a lot of these songs. Perhaps there is no more deserving of recognition in his partnerships than Mac Quayle. Mac Quayle is a Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, who has written and produced for many of the DIVAS included in this series. Today, he produces scores for a multitude of TV shows and movies. His partnership with Hex Hector on many of the productions they put out is equally as important to shaping the sound of the finished product as the lead man himself. I just want to ensure that Mac gets the credit he deserves, because without him on board, many of these remixes may have never occurred much-less been as stellar as they are. Mac, we salute you! Much like volume 7, this set includes many number one Billboard Club/Dance hits but are still considered to be lesser than many of the iconic ones spread out over this series. As we roll out Volume 6 in our tribute series to this remixing legend, we've handpicked another playlist filled with his top hits, showcasing his incredible talent for redefining classics and igniting dance floors. Hex Hector's skills were initially honed in the club scenes of New York, with legendary stints at iconic venues like the Tunnel and the Limelight. His craftsmanship eventually propelled him to win the Grammy for Remixer of the Year in 2001. And speaking of Grammys, let's not forget paradigm-shifting remix of Whitney Houston's "I Learned From The Best," by HQ2 a masterstroke in balancing emotive vocals with danceable beats. Houston's emotive intensity gets a whole new canvas to shine on in this high energy remix, and the result is nothing short of transformative. But the Grammy-recognized talents don't end there. Hector gave us a riveting version of Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart," a remix (with Soul Solution) that redefined the emotional ballad into an upbeat, heart-pounding anthem. It's like he took Braxton's heartache and converted it into raw dance energy. Hex also has a penchant for unveiling hidden gems in songs lesser-known to the masses. Just look at his twist on "Girl From the Gutter" by Kina. Hector manages to up the ante on the song's original intensity, proving once again that his remixes are not just mere reinterpretations but are, more often than not, upgrades. While perusing my music collection, I stumbled upon "I've Had Enough" by Regina Belle—truthfully, a track I wasn't even familiar with. But it's Hex Hector; how could I not give it a listen? Trust me, it's a reminder that even in the less-charted territories of your playlist, Hex's remixes serve as musical gems worth discovering. And let's not overlook his remix of "Stranger In My House" by Tamia. The song serves as another testament to Hector's genius, as he magically turns Tamia's vocal curiosity into an absolute club banger. There are few artists who can not only survive but thrive in the evolving world of dance music, maintaining both relevance and reverence. Hex Hector is undeniably one of them. His work, laden with nostalgia yet tinged with fresh beats, shows us exactly why he's an industry titan. We've got two more captivating volumes coming up in this Hex Hector series, so if your go-to mix hasn't appeared yet, stay tuned. There's much more still to come. Until the next time...ENJOY! Starting with humble beginnings, the New York-based DJ and remixer rose to prominence by shaping the contours of the dance music scene for more than a decade. One of the most pivotal moments of his illustrious career was an early rejection that became a blessing in disguise. Picture this: a young Hex Hector presents a remix of Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart" to music mogul Clive Davis, only to be met with skepticism. Clive suggests he work with Soul Solution instead. Unbeknownst to Hex at the time, this move would propel the remix into a massive gay anthem, setting the tone for a new era of progressive and tribal house music. Fast forward two years later, and Davis approached Hector to work his magic on Deborah Cox's lead single off her sophomore album "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here." This turned out to be a pivotal moment that further solidified Hex Hector's standing in the realm of elite production remix DJs. Although he didn't receive top billing—his name was subtly tucked away in the liner credits—the impact of his work was anything but footnote material. The remix was a smash hit, serving as a testament to Hector's prowess in reimagining songs in a way that captured the audience's imagination while filling dance floors across the globe. The monumental success of "Un-Break My Heart" and "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" coincided with a new generation of DJs that were taking dance floors to new heights providing fresh new sounds never heard before. Club 69's Peter Rauhofer, Victor Calderone, Thunderpuss, Junior Vasquez, and Jonathan Peters followed in Hex Hector's footsteps, incorporating a fresh, new progressive big room style into their remixes. Now, let's delve into the Tribute to Hex Hector we've all been buzzing about. We scoured the expansive catalog of Hex's creations, paying meticulous attention to your favorite mixes while curating the ultimate dance experience. Contrary to Jason's belief (sorry, buddy), the absence of certain tracks doesn't detract from the overall quality of the setlist. While Hex's Wikipedia page does provide an exhaustive list, its reliability can sometimes be sketchy. If you want to verify the legitimacy of a particular remix, Discogs is your go-to resource. Rather than truncate these gems, I let most of the tracks breathe, running their full course with only minor edits to their intros and outros. For fans of the divas like Deborah Cox, Toni Braxton and Whitney Houston, some of my mixshow edits can also be found in their respective Diva Series collections.

This was the era that saw Bill Clinton sworn in for a second term, but it was also when the world learned about Dolly the cloned sheep. While technology and politics had their own narratives, the cultural fabric of the time was threaded with music. The club scene, specifically, had its own set of anthems that could either fuel a dance marathon or carry someone through a heartbreak. Pulse feat. Antoinette Roberson - The Lover That You Are (Hex Hector & Soul Solution Club Mix) If you ever questioned the emotional depth house music could plumb, look no further. "The Lover That You Are" deftly merges the ethereal voice of Antoinette Roberson with Hex Hector and Soul Solution's heart-pounding remix. Hex Hector, a Grammy Award-winning remixer, was at his zenith during this period, creating remixes that almost outshined the originals. Hannah Jones - No One Can Love You More Than Me (Stonebridge Mix) Stonebridge, an acclaimed DJ, adds his Midas touch to Hannah Jones' "No One Can Love You More Than Me." This remix isn't just a tune; it's a melodic tapestry that pushed the boundaries of how house music could sound. If you were in a club when this dropped, it was like a collective spiritual experience, a cathartic release on the dancefloor. The Bucketheads - The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind) With a sonic nod to Chicago house, The Bucketheads released "The Bomb!" This track didn't just dominate the club scene; it seeped into mainstream consciousness. Interestingly, the track samples "Street Player" by Chicago, a band whose roots trace back to rock and jazz fusion. Aretha Franklin - A Deeper Love (C + C Music Factory Mix) If any song could serve as a sonic representation of empowerment, it would be Aretha Franklin's "A Deeper Love." When you pair the Queen of Soul with the production prowess of C + C Music Factory, you get a track that goes beyond a simple club banger—it's an anthem for the ages. Judy Cheeks - As Long As You're Good To Me (Love To Infinity's Classic Paradise Club Mix) By 1995, Judy Cheeks was already a staple in the house scene. But when Love To Infinity got their hands on "As Long As You're Good To Me," the song transformed into an epic narrative of love and longing, the kind that would leave the club crowd spellbound as the night wore on. So why does this genre of 90s House Music Classics continue to captivate us? Perhaps it's the way these tracks encapsulate a period of ingenuity and emotional depth, intertwining with the broader tapestry of '90s cul...
