TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ SILENT G Over the past years, Silent G has managed to establish himself in Berlin's electronic music scene. As a DJ, he is a regular behind some of the city's most renowned decks. And with gigs in Vienna and Mongolia, his music has also taken him abroad. In the booth, his main goal is to find the right connection to the dance floor. Depending on the vibe, his sets range from dubby Techno to old school Tribal cuts, funky Hardgroove or driving Techno tools. But he also feels comfortable in more break-heavy spheres, such as Drum'n'Bass and Jungle. Besides DJing, his activities in the local scene include running the event series ZEMENT, and curating the Drum'n'Bass and Jungle night STALACTITES at Paloma. Silent G is also part of the Interphase crew, hosting notorious genre-bending off-location parties. As a producer, he has track releases on the Irish label Space Records and on Nonchalance Music. Another one is scheduled for January 2025 on the Toronto-based imprint Oneiros Records. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Mitch Moore, who is a freelance writer. Mitch likes to solve the Sunday and Monday crossword puzzles. Both he and Frank try to solve the Monday puzzle as fast as possible. Frank has broken the five-minute barrier but Mitch has yet to go “sub 5.” Mitch and his wife went to Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park. They spent several days at Yellowstone. Frank and his wife would like to go back and spend more than a day at Yellowstone. Frank and Jere visited Tom Kent, one of Frank's radio mentors, in Cleveland on the day after the eclipse in April. Tom died of cancer in June. On Tom's birthday in August, hundreds of his Facebook friends wished him a happy birthday, obviously unaware that he had died. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Buy books and other merchandise autographed by Body Farm founder Dr. Bill Bass at https://bonezones.com/ including Body Farm t-shirts. Contact BoneZones to hire Frank to give a presentation about Dr. Bass and the Body Farm. Jere attempted to take two grandsons to McKay's used bookstore but it happened to be the same day as the store's anniversary. The store was overrun with fans trying to win prizes by driving to all five McKay's stores in North Carolina and Tennessee. Mitch points out that the store used to be known as McKay Books and that in the South, people tend to add an S to store names like Kroger, Walmart, and others. Mitch recently finished the first draft of a book. He set the book in rural Arkansas during the same time period that he was growing up there. Frank had a poster printed using the image of an East Tennessee PBS monthly program guide that included him among some actual celebrities. Every time Frank buys a package of 700 coffee filters, he wonders if he will be able to use them all. The Tennessee Valley Fair asked Frank and Becca James to emcee the Fair Food Throwdown on Saturday, September 7 and the Sweet Goodness Doughnut Challenge on Thursday, September 12, 2024. Frank used bonus points to get a free Frappuccino but rather than drink it, he saved it in the freezer. A couple of weeks later he bought a Frappuccino to earn 75 bonus points. He put it in the freezer to save it for another day and then realized the first one was still there. Frank's grandson Artie chastised him for not saying “excuse me” after a gastrointestinal outburst. Frank started saying “Pardon me boys, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo” every time it happened again. Frank explained the reference, which made Artie want to watch The Glenn Miller Story starring James Stewart. Frank will be checking in the audience members at Marble City Opera's “Tenors, Tuxedos, and Stalactites” concert on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The gate opens at 4:00 p.m. and the one-hour concert starts at 5:00 p.m. Get tickets at https://www.marblecityopera.com/tickets before they sell out. Mitch is the drummer in an ‘80s cover band called Vinyl Tap. The band will perform at Ale' Rae's, 937 N. As we get older, we might find it harder to remember things, including lists of information. So how can we help our brains to retain new information? One option is to continue to repeat the information over and over again to try and help our brains to remember it, the other option is to use a mnemonic. New research out this week in the journal Royal Society Open Science compared the two methods and found that tailoring mnemonics to suit your own needs was by far the best way to remember things more quickly and accurately. So, what is a mnemonic and how can we use them to help us? A mnemonic is a pattern of words, letters, or ideas that helps us remember something unrelated. There are several types of mnemonic: Musical mnemonics The alphabet song: The “A-B-C-D…” helps us learn the English alphabet, which is essentially a string of 26 random letters. Rhyme mnemonics Rhymes tend to be catchy making it easier to remember information like the rule I before E, except after C. Acronyms This uses the first letter of each item in a list to form an acronym, like ROYGBIV for the colours of the rainbow. Keyword mnemonics Sometimes creating visual cues can help to create associations like how to differentiate between stalactites and stalagmites. Stalactites hold on ‘tight' to the ceiling. Previous research found that mnemonic devices work because they take creative routes to learning, either by linking to some knowledge you already know, or by appealing to your humour or your emotions. So the next time you are trying to remember something, think about it creatively and help your brain to learn the fun way. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Find Queen Vernita Explores the Oceaneer's Coastline on Amazon Follow: Dr. Dawn Menge Narrated by Emma Andreasson Moore Queen Vernita Explores the Oceaneers Coastline is the latest in the Queen Vernita's educational series. In this adventure Queen Vernita and Carl take a coach trip up the coastline of the Oceaneers Kingdom. Queen Vernita and Carl visit Twelve new friends during the twelve months of the year. In each month they spend their days exploring caverns, tide pools, swimming in the ocean and camping in the Redwood forest. In February, when they visited Stacy they learned about the jellyfish that lived in the tide pools where Stacy lived. They learned that jelly fish are 95% water, and that most jellyfish do not have brains. The box Jelly fish has evolved to have four information processing systems to manage their 24 eyes. In April when Spring came Queen Vernita and Carl visited with Claudia. During their visit they learned about Sea lions. They learned that Sea Lions are related to Walrus' and Seals. They also learned that Sea Lions love fish and squid. As the month ended they all three swam in the ocean with the Sea lions. They watched them as they swam up to 25 miles per hour. It was such an incredible experience. They soon traveled to the caverns along the coastline. They explored the caverns using only a candle. Here they learned about Stalagmites and Stalactites. They learned that stalagmites are formed from the floor and the largest one is over 204 ft high. Richard who is a spelunker taught them that stalactites are formed from the ceiling. The longest is twenty seven feet long. As the trio traveled through the months of the year they soon came to December. In December they meet Blake and his mother Nicole. Here they learned that there were many colorful Sea anemones in the tide pools. Carl was fascinated to learn that they can grow up to 6.6 feet long and that they ate shrimp as their diet. Queen Vernita and Carl ended their journey back at the ivy covered Oceaneers castle. Queen Vernita Explores the Oceaneers Coastline is the fifth in the Queen Vernita's educational

Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady of Marble City Opera. Frank says he is more comfortable on Diva Daylight Time. Frank was reminded of Kathryn when he heard a mention of Sazerac cocktails and when he used an empty whiskey bottle as a flower vase. In last Tuesday's Einstein Simplified show, Frank was in a singing game called Three-Headed Broadway Star. Jessica Brackeen, Sara Grace Peglow, and Frank each sang one word at a time. Kathryn's upstairs air conditioning unit isn't working properly. She thinks the repairman has not been up to the attic, where he would see the creepy painting of a child that has been there since before Kathryn and her husband moved in. She discussed it a year and a half ago in podcast episode 0025, “Attic Painting Ghost Girl” which can be seen at https://youtu.be/uP019i2sjNY Kathryn asked Frank to record a video of Marble City Opera's “Stalactites, Sopranos, and Stilettos" concert in order to make fifteen-second clips for social media. Frank recorded the entire one-hour concert rather than be responsible for choosing which fifteen seconds to record. Frank enjoyed the performance of Rossini's "Duetto buffo di due gatti” (The Cat Duet), which Kathryn rearranged as a trio to sing with Jacquie Brecheen and April Hill. A brief video clip is included. Frank tried to AirDrop the one-hour video to Kathryn but there wasn't enough memory on her iPhone. He offered to show her how to go to Settings, General, iPhone Storage, Messages, Review Large Attachments and then delete a few files but she wanted no part of it. You can also get several of Sam Venable's books, signed by the author and the new book by former UT counsel Ron Leadbetter. Dr. Bill Bass turns 95 on August 30, which is also “Missy Barrett Day: A Day to Do Good Deeds.” Frank received a Facebook message from the fictional character that said: “So, Mr. Frank, are you going to help out on International Missy Barrett Day: A Day To Do Good Deeds on Wednesday, August 30th by doing more good deeds than usual and telling people why you're doing more good deeds than usual and asking them to do more good deeds than they usually do?” Learn more at https://missybarrett.wordpress.com/ At a Marble City Opera production at the Old City Performing Arts Center, Frank and his wife sat behind an older woman who could not access the electronic program on her phone. Kathryn loaned her iPad to the woman, who accidentally tapped the messages icon. Frank could see that she was now reading a text conversation between Kathryn and Frank. Kathryn heard from a friend that their high school band was having a reunion. The friend told Kathryn that there is a private Facebook group with many photos, including several that include Kathryn. She makes Frank try to find her in three group photos. Subscriber April wore her Frank & Friends Show bucket hat to the “Stalactites, Sopranos, and Stilettos" concert. Jere took a photo of April with Frank and Kathryn. Sign up for a 30-day trial of Audible Premium Plus and get a free premium selection that's yours to keep. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady, who will be singing in Marble City Opera's second annual Stalactites, Sopranos, & Stilettos concert on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Historic Cherokee Caverns. Tickets are on sale at https://www.marblecityopera.com/tickets Frank mentions Dr. Randall Lange who writes children's books featuring his dog Josh. The current Josh is number 4. Kathryn went to see a tiger named Mike VII at Louisiana State University. Frank is reminded of the live tigers used in a photo shoot with Mark & Brian for the cover of the Los Angeles Radio Guide. Frank received a postcard about the Opera America conference in Los Angeles in June, 2024. He also received a save-the-date postcard from the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge. The Frank & Friends Show logo is on the postcard because Frank will emcee their annual gala on November 17, 2023. The activities director of a retirement home left a message for Frank about an upcoming performance. She was actually trying to reach an elderly singer and his wife who also call themselves Frank & Friends. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). She was able to turn off her phones and read books on the beach. They saw sea turtles laying eggs on the beach. Kathryn stops at the Buc-ee's in Leeds, Alabama when driving between Baton Rouge and Knoxville. Frank enjoyed the brisket and egg burrito at the Buc-ee's in Sevierville. Kathryn likes the Dr Pepper Float ice cream from Blue Bell. Frank has deja vu because he also talked about the ice cream with Becca James. Frank's wife Jere got a coupon for a free Starbucks Frappuccino because she is in the top 1% of Frappuccino customers. Jere's sister has thousands of points on her Starbucks card. Kathryn likes the chicken strips at Chick-fil-A but usually has to wait for them to be cooked whereas the nuggets are cooked in advance. Frank and his wife made reservations at a fancy restaurant in downtown Knoxville. They had to put down a credit card number to make the reservation and they will be charged $25 a person if they don't show up. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady of Marble City Opera. Kathryn will sing the title role in Marble City Opera's production of Susannah on June 8, 9, and 10, 2023. Frank thinks he smells cigarettes from the work crew across the street because the whole-house fan is drawing in air through the open windows. A work crew has been building a swimming pool across the street since March. Frank's neighbor rented a port-a-potty for the workers. The neighbor's children have been playing with their pool toys in the front yard while they wait for the pool to be finished. Frank was in his pajamas working on his 104.9 LakeFM radio show when he got an email asking him to appear on Living East Tennessee on WATE-TV that afternoon. He got himself camera-ready and made it to WATE by 3:15. When he walked in, he blew an air kiss to Tala Shatara but new co-host Kerjan Donovan saw it and was surprised. Right before they began Frank's interview, Kerjan noticed that Tala was still wearing earrings from an earlier segment with Kendra Scott jewelry. You can also get several of Sam Venable's books, signed by the author and the new book by former UT counsel Ron Leadbetter. Frank has already started editing new current events questions for the 2024 season of Tennessee Scholars' Bowl. One of the producers at East Tennessee PBS has asked Frank to find funny segments from the 2023 season so they can use them in social media posts over the summer. CBS Mornings recently had a segment about high school quiz shows. The reporter had been a quiz show contestant when he was in high school. The report featured some academic quiz shows that air on CBS affiliates in their markets. You can watch the report here: https://youtu.be/PRdCxMkTXyg Kathryn attended the Opera America conference and spoke up about singers who want to work in management but still continue singing. It's common among conductors but rare among singers. The industry mistakenly assumes singers going into management will give up singing. Frank and his wife Jere went out to dinner for her birthday. The restaurant would not seat them without a reservation. Frank asked if he could make a reservation and got a reservation for twenty minutes later. Kathryn will sing in a concert called Stalactites, Sopranos, & Stilettos at Cherokee Caverns on August 19, 2023. Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady of Marble City Opera. Kathryn posted on social media that she was going to start drinking coffee and Frank suggested some roasts but Kathryn changed her mind. Frank cut an orange lily to put in a vase for the show. The flowers remind him of his birthday because the lilies at his childhood home in New York would bloom in mid-June. In Tennessee, they bloom a month earlier. Kathryn has been in Baton Rouge, Huntsville, and Pittsburgh. The Opera America conference was in Pittsburgh this year. The opening reception was on a boat. Kathryn's husband James had to wait in the standby line because he hadn't pre-registered for the cruise on the app for the conference. For Marble City Opera's next season, Kathryn is planning a production of Puccini's Il Tabarro on a party barge on June 22, 2024; The Christmas Spider on January 6, 2024; and The Doctor and the Devils on June 6, 2024. A concert called Stalactites, Sopranos, & Stilettos at Cherokee Caverns will be on August 19, 2023. However when she sings to him, he hears her loud and clear. While watching the recent coronation on TV, Jere sang along as the church choir sang “Zadok the Priest.” Jere received a gift of stainless steel chopsticks. The package is entirely written in Chinese. Frank used the Google Translate app on his phone to learn what it said. There was a warning to not put it in the “Huiboyi.” Frank was glad that a nonjudgmental plumber who unclogged his bathroom sink. Frank thinks that the glob of material that came out was congealed hair gel. Jere received two large coffee mugs that say Volvo. Frank wants to give them to his sister, who has two Volvo cars but doesn't want to pay the postage to mail them to New York. Kathryn promises to give the mugs to Frank's sister if he were to die and his sister were to attend the funeral. Frank Murphy is joined by opera singer and executive Kathryn Frady. Kathryn says she remembered how to sit up straight on camera and was complimented for it when doing another video interview. Frank made a YouTube short of Kathryn singing at Moonshine Mountain Coaster. His friend Bean used the audio during the intro of an episode of the podcast A Cup of Tea and a Chat. He also made shorts with video clips of Jeff Detrow and Nate Evans. Kathryn was mentioned on the podcast Quitters Never Give Up. They played a clip of Kathryn's story about the man who showed up at her office to tell her that he wrote her an angry email but didn't send it. One of Kathryn's employees at Opéra Louisiane admitted to “stalking” her online before Kathryn was hired. She discovered that Kathryn was “fabulous.” Kathryn staged an opera performance of Bon Appetit paired with Leonard Bernstein's The Four Recipes in Baton Rouge last week. The libretto comes from an episode of The French Chef, starring Julia Child. Frank used to watch The French Chef when he was young. His sister once baked a Bacardi Rum Cake that was photographed for magazine ads and a recipe card. Frank met Julia Child when he booked her for an interview on KLOS-FM. Frank and his wife saw Julia Child's kitchen in a museum. Kathryn Frady, Whitney Wells, and Kayla Beard will sing in a concert called Stalactites, Sopranos, and Stilettos on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. inside Historic Cherokee Caverns. They will sing some opera arias and some musical theater songs. Tickets are $15 and are on sale at https://www.marblecityopera.com/tickets Frank points out that Kathryn is half-British and has dual citizenship. King Charles III declared September 19 to be a bank holiday because of Queen Elizabeth's funeral. Since banks are closed and school is canceled in England, Frank thinks Kathryn should be obligated to cancel the Marble City Opera board meeting that day. Kathryn has an apartment in downtown Baton Rouge. The building has a rooftop pool. Her dog Sasha is becoming a city dog when living in Baton Rouge. Kathryn enjoys eating gulf fish like yellowtail and redfish. Her new favorite restaurant is Cecelia Creole Bistro, which serves boudin balls. The restaurant also serves Sazerac Rye. Frank texted Kathryn when he had a Sazerac in Michigan last week. Kathryn has a full schedule of performances and events in Knoxville, Santa Fe, Baton Rouge, and Huntsville. Is God really there? Or are we just an accident in the universe, a product of blind chance? Is there no design other than that which natural law provides? Stalactites and stalagmites grow in caves by the natural process of water seeping through rock and depositing calcium carbonate. They can create some fascinating, even eerie, forms. In one cave, a collection of these in a corner looks enough like a pipe organ that someone gave the formation that name. Although those things may look roughly like a pipe organ in church, it is still only calcium carbonate, formed over time by dripping water (and it makes no music). A real organ is designed. It is a work of art and craft absolutely unique among man's inventions. It has a purpose. It follows the laws of nature, but was not created by the laws of nature. But more than that, the organ is a creation designed for creating. It allows for creation to flow from the mind of a man through his fingers. No one would ever argue that such a beautifully-designed instrument was created by the laws of nature. Nor would anyone ever try to create an organ that did not obey the laws of nature. It would be pointless, because it would allow nothing to be created that was worthwhile. But man thinks nothing of arguing that he himself was created by the laws of nature. Nor of arguing that he need not obey the laws of nature. So man argues that everything, from the universe to the amoeba to man, evolved over time following the laws of nature. The argument is that the laws of nature are merely properties of matter. And whence cometh the matter…? Well, the matter just is. It originated out of nothing with a big bang. Now if you can believe all that, don't let me disturb you; because the alternative to that line of thought contains an idea that will boggle the mind. The alternative is that the whole thing—from the universe to the amoeba to man—was designed by an intelligence that had the power to make it happen. The idea that man is an accident of the universe, somehow brought into being by blind chance or natural law through evolution, is hateful because it would mean that life has no meaning at all. And I am reasonably sure that the persistent teaching of evolution down through the years has so eroded the morality of our people that they are completely lost. A kind of advanced utilitarianism now guides the thinking of so very many people. Utilitarianism is a seven syllable word that simply asks the question, Is it useful. You know the word: Utility. The SUV—sports utility vehicle—is a byword in our society today; and the word utility simply means, fitness for some purpose, or worth to some end. Philosophy has elevated utility to a religion, by adding an -ism and calling it Utilitarianism. Professor Lawrence Hinman, in a series of lectures, lists what he calls the three basic insights of Utilitarianism: The purpose of morality is to make the world a better place. Morality is about producing good consequences, not having good intentions. We should do whatever will bring the most benefit to all of humanity. He then lays out the purpose of morality: The utilitarian has a very simple answer to the question of why morality exists at all. The purpose of morality is to guide people's actions in such a way as to produce a better world. Consequently, the emphasis in utilitarianism is on consequences, not intentions. Now you don't have to have a PHD to realize that philosophy is offering you an alternative to religion. An alternative to God. Do you see any problems with this idea as presented? It is the absence of an answer to the question, Why? Why should I concern myself with what brings the most benefit to humanity if it costs me more than I want to pay? Why can't I just do what benefits me the most, what works for me? Sure, I need to be concerned about consequences to me, but why should I care about the consequences to Africa except as they might later affect me? And further, what may be the biggest what if question of all...

Walk 1000 miles a Year; Can a Great Dane and a Couch Potato #walk1000miles 2021?
Day 46 - Willow and I only found two Snow Angels, this afternoon, across at Deep Lock on the Sheffield Canal. We walked half of the block walk, which was a good 3 miles and one of the first walks we started doing at the beginning of this challenge. The whole Boat hold went out again after dark, it was still freezing or ‘nesh' as Dave likes to call it. Nature dropped a surprise; Dave found an ice stalactite (or could have been stalagmite - always get them confused). Sweetly he gave it to Eva who trotted off with it like she'd been handed the baton in a relay race, she was out in front for quite some way, we had to get a fair wiggle on and the harsh wind was against us. Eva was in her element, she carried it fair old way. Rather than hand the baton to Willow, she eventually ate it. She loves ice, it's almost her fountain of youth If you've enjoyed this episode, please leave us a five-star rating and share it with these you feel would also enjoy them. We're baaaaaack! After taking a couple of weeks off, we're ready to welcome 2019 with open arms! And not just any arms, but the big, bulging, sweaty arms of Sylvester Stallone! This week marks the first week of our new series, "Try Hard," focusing on films that were inspired by DIE HARD and sought to mimic its premise (and box office success). For the first film in this series, we're taking a look at "DIE HARD on a mountain," Renny Harlin's 1992 rock-climbing actioner CLIFFHANGER! We'll discuss why this was such a pivotal point in Stallone's career, as well as the many unmade films that paved the road to this box office smash. There's so much to talk about here! Lithgow's English accent! Stalactites vs stalagmites! Michael F'n Rooker! And most importantly: Is this a movie that's worthy of the Psychotronic Hall of Fame? Be sure to vote in our poll to let us know! VOTE: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NJ3YHHY And be on the lookout soon for a link to vote in our annual People's Choice poll to help us decide your favorite psychotronic film of 2018! [Episode 75] What's with God telling the Serpent it would crawl on the ground? Let's find out what the creation community has uncovered about snakes, legs, and dust. Then it's a bit of creation worldview thinking with real time experiments on a big scale at a ministry in Australia, followed up with the least messy way to do homespun experiments- in a baggie!
Mia rants about the hoopla over the dress code on capitol hill - she thinks it's overblown but, for the record, she's not a fan of pantyhose. She also talks about the boy who woke up to a bear crunching on his skull, breakfast meat scented underwear, and how awesome the laughing buddha is.
Gotta do a little spelunking to play these pipes.

April 29, 2007 at 11:38 PM The MAP is back and the Kids got a new computer. Its a super late edition of the show. We talk about Katie from the bar, the potential lingerie party with hot chicks, how damn stupid it is to wear the same color shirt at a b-ball game and hating dikes.
We are back in our old stomping grounds, where we began our theatre careers, our film career (in Zephyr's case), our company, our family and our life on the road. This week we come to you from Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, after performing at the San Francisco Jewish Community Center. Lake Shasta CavernsWe tell of our recent trip to Lake Shasta Caverns, discovered by Charles Morton in 1878 near Mt.Shasta. The caverns are situated by Lake Shasta, the second-largest manmade lake in the country--it covers five former towns and contains sturgeon up to 30 feet long! We took the three-part tour (boat, bus and shoe leather) of the caverns and discovered some of the most graphic rock formations we've ever seen in the many caves we've toured. Learn how to tell stalactites from stalagmites. We'll give you a couple of ways to tell them apart. And find out what helictites are. (No, they're not a frozen dessert on a stick, but they look like it.) More about Lake Shasta Caverns The Dragon of KrakowThe story of "The Dragon of Krakow" (sometimes known as "The Dragon of Wawel Hill" or "Krakus and the Dragon") is a folktale from Poland. We've been touring the country with this story since May 2006. Just a few more months to see it live on the west coast, as it will be closing in December to make way for our new production. Check the Tour Schedule for upcoming shows What happens when a young boy learns to deal with the trouble he has stirred up? A shoemaker's apprentice, egged on by peer pressure, awakens a sleeping dragon, which devastates the village and terrorizes the people. When the villagers are unable to defeat him, the apprentice realizes he must correct his own mistake, which he does with imagination and resourcefulness. More Dragon Stories brought to you by Tina Hanlon of Ferrum College. Happy Listening, Dennis, Kimberly and Zephyr
