Paramount Global has agreed to pay $16 million to Donald Trump to settle a lawsuit over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. Trump claimed the segment was deceptively edited — and now, as part of the deal, Paramount will release full transcripts of future political interviews. No apology was issued, and the money goes toward Trump's legal expenses and presidential library — not directly to him. Critics say this sets a dangerous precedent for media freedom. Was this a smart legal move or political surrender?

The June jobs report showed a surprise loss of 33,000 private sector jobs—far below expectations—fueling concerns about a slowing economy. In Wisconsin, the state Supreme Court struck down its 1849 abortion ban in a 4–3 ruling, preserving abortion access up to 20 weeks and highlighting the impact of recent judicial elections. Paramount Global will pay Trump $16 million to settle a lawsuit over a 60 Minutes interview, just as it seeks regulatory approval for a $2B merger. At the DOJ, a pardoned Jan. 6 rioter is now working in a Trump-aligned political retaliation unit, while Stephen Miller's legal group is suing the LA Dodgers for alleged anti-ICE bias. U.S. officials also warned of escalated cyber threats from Iran and its proxy hackers, who claim to have stolen 100GB of Trump-aligned emails. And finally, Sean “Diddy” Combs was found guilty on two federal prostitution charges and now faces up to 20 years in prison. The Redstone family is a controlling shareholder of Paramount Global — one of the biggest entertainment companies out there. (Think CBS Entertainment, MTV, Nickelodeon.) The family is also one of the inspirations for HBO's Succession, which makes sense the more you get to know them. Shari Redstone currently has the controlling stake in Paramount Global. Company leadership was carefully criticized in a recent on-air "rebuke" by 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley, who said the show was receiving new kinds of oversight amid the Trump presidency. The drama has unfolded as Redstone seeks FCC approval for a lucrative merger, and the Trump administration is suing Paramount Global for billions of dollars. This week we revisit Redstone's backstory by re-airing a conversation with Rachel Abrams, a senior producer and reporter for The New York Times Presents, and the co-author with James B. Next, following executive producer Bill Owens' resignation from CBS, “60 Minutes” immediately called out Paramount Global in the midst of a merger with Skydance Media. Learn from Kevin Bourne, a storyteller and media visionary building an empire that stands the test of time. Discover how to embrace pivots, build for longevity, and create more opportunities by building in public. “I've learned to analyze life and see the good in the bad moments. I'm willing to be inconvenienced temporarily if it means achieving something better in the long term. I've noticed that many people focus on short-term discomfort instead of realizing that if they push through it, something better is on the other side.” In this episode, Kevin Bourne and I explore the power of reinvention and embracing the in-between moments in life. Kevin shares how his journey—from shy kid to political staffer, media founder, and now film and TV producer—has been fueled by constant growth and a willingness to evolve. Kevin Bourne is a cultural visionary and powerhouse in Canada's arts and media landscape. Kevin is a journalist, on-air personality, and branding and marketing strategist based in Toronto. As the CEO of SHIFTER Entertainment, he oversees the production of compelling film, TV, digital content, and live experiences, collaborating with industry giants like New Balance, Paramount Global, and CBC. This episode is for you if: You are focused on building for longevity, not perfection. You want to learn how to pivot between different creative industries, from journalism to TV and film production. You're curious about how to build a media platform that serves local communities and fills gaps in the market. You're exploring how to take immediate action on your ideas to avoid losing momentum and motivation. You're navigating the process of rebranding yourself while balancing multiple hats in creative industries. S&P futures are up +0.08%, pointing to a flat open today. Asian markets were mostly higher, as optimism over China's anticipated fiscal stimulus and a weaker US dollar provided positive momentum. European markets are mixed in early trades. The upcoming NPC Standing Committee meeting in China, scheduled for 4-8 Nov, has drawn significant attention regarding potential fiscal stimulus measures. Current estimates suggest a range between CNY6-10T over multiple years. This package may focus on local government debt swaps. An announcement of a supplementary budget is considered possible, with estimates leaning towards CNY6T. The outcome of the U.S. presidential election could significantly influence the stimulus size, with predictions suggesting a larger package if Trump wins, potentially reaching 3% of GDP annually, while a Harris win might align closer to 2% of GDP.Companies Mentioned: Air Transport Services Group, Mars, Inc., Brookfield Asset Management, Comcast, NVIDIA, Retail Opportunity Investments, Paramount Global, B.
