People keep asking the wrong question.“No, I'm not calling for an invasion of Greenland.”The real issue is leverage, responsibility, and who actually carries the weight of global security.Since World War II, the United States has provided the overwhelming majority of NATO's real military capability. Not the admin budget. Not the clipboard money. The muscle. The deterrence. The nuclear triad, the navy, the air power, the logistics that keep the Northern Hemisphere stable. That reality gets ignored because it's uncomfortable. So when conversations pop up about Greenland, they're not about land. They're about position, the Arctic, Russia, China, and a 30-year chessboard most people refuse to look at.This episode breaks down why pretending the burden is “shared equally” inside NATO is fiction, why Denmark can't bankroll Arctic defense alone, and why dismissing Greenland's strategic value is how nations lose influence without firing a shot. This isn't about MAGA.It's about math, history, and deterrence. And this conversation isn't aging the way people think it is.

Send us a textWhat if the stories we consume shape our emotional intelligence more profoundly than we realize? Lucinda Sage-Midgorden's journey through storytelling reveals exactly that powerful connection. From childhood family movie nights where discussions were mandatory to launching her Story Power podcast in her sixties, Lucinda shares how stories have woven through every aspect of her life. Her father, despite struggling with dyslexia, established a tradition that taught her to analyze characters, themes, and emotional journeys in film and literature – skills that would define her career and worldview. With a refreshing "jump off the cliff and see what happens" attitude, Lucinda describes her path through religious studies, theater, teaching, and finally podcasting. Her insight that "every life is a library" transformed her podcast from merely discussing consumed media to exploring personal narratives from guests worldwide. The conversation takes fascinating turns through Marvel character analysis (Tony Stark and Steve Rogers representing opposite ends of the emotional intelligence spectrum), the visual storytelling in classic cinema, and how narrative understanding enhances our ability to read body language and emotional cues.Particularly valuable for creative professionals, Lucinda addresses the common worry of content creation: "If you've lived on this earth even 20 years, you have stories. As a matter of fact, you have more stories than you think you do." Her upcoming YouTube project with her sister, "Classic Cinema with the Sage Sisters," demonstrates her continuing evolution as a storyteller.Connect with Lucinda through her website sagewomanlife on WordPress, listen to Story Power on all major platforms, or follow her on LinkedIn to discover how stories can heighten your emotional intelligence and deepen your understanding of human nature.Support the showGot a question about something you heard today? “I had to do a 180. I had to completely turn my back on what was. And I still have to kill that little monster every day.” Jelly Roll We often say, "It's never too late to Pivot." and the epitome of that saying is the journey of Grammy Award Artist and Nashville Native, Jelly Roll, who's pure existence is an inspiration in every way. Opening up on his powerful path from a turbulent past, marked by addiction, incarceration, and emotional struggles to becoming one of the most celebrated and popular figures in music today, Jason DeFord widely known as Jelly Roll, sheds light on the darkness that has helped him rise to stardom. Ryan, Channing and Fred visit Jelly Roll at his Tennessee farm for a conversation rooted in friendship and acceptance as Jelly shares a message of hope, redemption and healing just as the lyrics of his music resonate with so many, especially those facing hardship. Together the guys explore Jelly's troubled past, from 15 years of criminal activity to being in jail while his daughter was born, to battling demons to overcoming addiction to the importance of love and healing in personal transformation. He admits he's not proud of who he was, but those dark times shaped the man he's become today. Transparent about his relationship with his wife Bunnie XO, Jelly opens up about the shame they both feel through their past habits and history before committing to one another and elevating each other through forgiveness and fostering a life of harmony and peace. Faith plays a big role in Jelly Roll's journey, but he keeps it real. “I talk to God like I talk to everybody. I might even cuss when I pray.” Now, as a husband and father, he talks about his fears of losing the stability he's built, the impact of therapy on his mental health, and why it was important for his daughter to see him be vulnerable so she could feel safe doing the same. Choosing to be public about his past, Jelly Roll never expected to be accepted by country music, but from Reba McEntire to Dolly Parton, the legends welcomed him as he transcended culture, he speaks on how Eminem inspired him long before they collaborated and how he now sees his music as a way to heal others while still healing himself. Jelly Roll's purpose goes beyond entertainment. He stood in front of the U.S. Senate to address the fentanyl crisis, spoken out about addiction's impact on families, and dedicated himself to helping at-risk youth. His weight loss journey, his struggles with food addiction, and his fight to replace destructive habits all reflect a man constantly evolving, always trying to be the best version of himself. This pivotal conversation is proof that no one is beyond saving and through Jelly Roll's vulnerability, his story isn't just about overcoming the past it's about embracing purpose, healing, and using pain to inspire others. Keep pushing through, the best is yet to come. Follow us on your favorite audio platform for more stories like this. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Education On Fire - Sharing creative and inspiring learning in our schools
Lucinda has been a story lover since she and her family watched TV and movies together. Her father taught her how to find the deeper layers of a story. This love prompted her to pursue a double major BA in Religious Studies and Theatre and Speech, a MA in Theatre Arts, and finally a MAEd so she could share her love of stories with her students. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest but has lived in Southern Arizona for over 28 years moving there after a three month trip circumnavigating the globe. Now completely retired, Lucinda writes her weekly blog Sage Woman Chronicles, is working on her second novel, manages her Patreon Community and Apple subscriptions as well as producing the bi-weekly podcast, Story-Power.Takeaways: The podcast emphasizes the importance of storytelling in understanding human emotions and connections. Lucinda's journey highlights how arts education can empower students to express themselves creatively. The shift towards STEM subjects in education often overlooks the value of arts and humanities. Empowerment and resilience are crucial for students to navigate their personal challenges effectively. Lucinda's mentors inspired her to embrace her passions and pursue a career in education. The conversation underscores that learning is a lifelong process filled with valuable lessons. The abuse of prescription drugs on college campuses has skyrocketed in the last 10 years—and by extension, so too has the intricate ecosystem of college-aged dealers and distribution networks. So today, we're covering a multimillion-dollar fraternity drug ring scandal at the College of Charleston with the investigative journalist, Max Marshall, who covered it in his book, Among the Bros. We talk about power, privilege, and the near-total lack of consequences in this story — and how it serves as a bit of an allegory for the real world. Need a primer on the various names involved in this story? Mikey Schmidt, the main drug plug for the fraternity with connections to cartels in Atlanta, and the contact for the fraternity's distribution networks and runners Rob Liljeberg, a former Eagle Scout who went on to become the president of the Kappa Alpha fraternity Zach Kligman, also known as the "Charleston Kingpin," who would help traffic the drugs into Charleston Patrick Moffly, a socialite, beloved party boy, and son of a big-time real estate developer and a Congressional candidate. Moffly helped create and sell the drugs sold through the fraternity. Transcripts, show notes, production credits, and more can be found at: https://moneywithkatie.com/fraternity-drug-ring. Lucinda Sage-Midgorden has been a story lover since she and her family watched TV and movies together. Her father taught her how to find the deeper layers of a story. This love prompted her to pursue a double major in Religious Studies and Theatre and Speech, a MA in Theatre Arts, and finally a MAEd so she could share her love of stories with her students. Now retired, Lucinda writes her weekly blog, Sage Woman Chronicles, is working on her second novel, manages her online course, "Saving the World One Story at a Time", and produces the bi-weekly podcast, Story-Power. Lucinda talks with me about the overlap between religion and theater, how story can broaden our understanding of others and help us learn emotional intelligence, how she came to create her online course, and even shares some classic books and movies that are still relevant today. Episode breakdown: [00:05:05] Reading fiction helped Lucinda love literature. [00:08:33] Religious studies to theater. [00:15:06] Emotional intelligence. [00:19:18] Father's emotional intelligence led to success. [00:27:23] From teaching to writing a book, blog, novel, podcast, and online course. [00:37:12] Language, colors, and stories shape us. [00:42:58] Acting class teaches medical students empathy skills. [00:50:44] Movie and book recommendations: awakening journeys and making a difference. PenPodcast: Inked Conversations with Authors and Industry Experts
Tom Ruwitch is a storyteller, business growth catalyst, and content marketing pioneer. In 2001, Tom founded the email marketing software and services company MarketVolt -- before most business people had even heard of email marketing. He sold MarketVolt in 2019 and founded Story Power Marketing. Today, coaches, authors, and other experts hire Tom to power up their stories because most dish out the same old boring content that turns off prospects, and then they feel frustrated and stuck. So Tom helps them transform content from ignored to adored, turn marketing from frustrating to fun, and convert results from pitiful to profitable. For nearly a quarter-century, Tom helped businesses attract leads, engage prospects, close sales, and maximize relationships. For the last 20 years, he's done this while running MarketVolt, the email marketing software and services firm he founded in 2001. Story-powered content captivates prospects and inspires them to act. Most coaches, consultants, and other experts dish out the same old boring content, put prospects to sleep, and then feel stuck and frustrated. Story Power helps you transform content from boring to brilliant, turn marketing from frustrating to fun, and convert results from pitiful to profitable. Why storytellers sell more and have more fun doing it How to create client-attracting content consistently -- without writer's block Many business people say they don't have an interesting story to tell. How do you respond? I've heard you say, "Storytelling does NOT have to be so complex." What do you mean by that? What's the most important skill/quality you need to be an effective business storyteller? How do you overcome writer's block? How do you come up with content ideas? My audience is serious business people. They don't want to hear stories. How do you respond?
