This week Kyle jumps online with Rivers Langley (@riverslangly*) for the second half of This Is Rad's look back at 2024. If you listened to part one and thought “Gee I wish they listed even more bands...” great news! We do! Plus, we chat about a metric ton of movies, thanks to Rivers' liberal abuse of the AMC A-List program. Kyle lists his Top Ten movies of the year as well. Rivers also gives us his top moments in wrestling for the year and we get Gale Langely's Top Ten TV shows for 2024. A jam packed episode to take us into the new year! Man, the well for this one was EXTREMELY deep, so many great ones over the years. So tune in to figure out what the best ones are and why. Don't forget to hit that 5-star rating, tell a friend about the show, and come back Thursday for more!
TV and film director Rob Tate joins Tim to talk about his documentary called “The Magic Pill” that was released in 2017 and has built a strong audience on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Why? Because it takes a look at you and me, what we eat, and our health. And it puts it all together into some simple lessons that will make you think twice before that next trip to the grocery store or the restaurant. https://traffic.libsyn.com/forcedn/shapingopinion/Rob_Tate_-_Magic_Pill_auphonic.mp3 Before we get started, I need to tell you that this episode is not another lecture on your diet or health. It's not an attempt to change anything about you. But after you listen, you may think twice before you make that next trip to your fridge. The film we're going to talk about today is called The Magic Pill, but as the title somewhat sarcastically infers, there isn't one. There is no magic pill you can take to prevent or address the full range of health problems or disease you could face. Or is there? The film poses some timeless questions. What if most of our modern diseases are just symptoms of the same underlying problem? And what if our diet, what we eat is both the cause and can be the cure? Our guest today, Rob Tate allowed those questions to guide him around the world to seek answers, and the ones he received were not totally surprising, but they do go against much of what we are told by the health establishment today. Yes, diet is critical to our health. But what kind of diet? How can the diet we've been told to follow hurt us? Links Rob Tate Website The Magic Pill, IMDB Healthy Macadamia Nut Bread Recipe Nutritional Values per Loaf: calories 3,183 INGREDIENTS 150g / 5.3oz Macadamia Nuts or Macadamia Butter 20g / 7.76oz Coconut Butter (also known as Manna) 6g / 0.2oz Baking Soda 3g / 0.1oz Pink Himalayan Salt 60ml / 2fl oz Lemon Juice 5 eggs (circa 50g each) TOOLS Batter Bowl Silicone Spatula Loaf Tin Coconut Oil Spray Hand Mixer High Speed Blender (to make nut butter) This is the bread recipe from "The Magic Pill" from Sara. About this Episode's Guest Rob Tate Rob Tate (Executive Producer / Director / Editor) has won the Emmy, Cine Golden Eagle, James Beard, and the IDA (International Documentary Association) awards for his various projects, including the PBS international documentary series, GOURMET'S DIARY OF A FOODIE and the Sundance Channel documentary series, ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL, which Time Magazine hailed as one of the Top Ten TV series of 2008. Rob also co-produced, shot and edited the independent feature fashion industry documentary, ELEVEN MINUTES, released by Regent Pictures, which Variety called a “skillfully crafted, beautifully shot and edited pic.” He is currently an EP of the PBS series, MOVEABLE FEAST, and the Australian food series, THE PALEO WAY WITH PETE EVANS. THE MAGIC PILL is Rob's second feature documentary.

After receiving reams of angry network notes, the boys have decided to separate the top ten lists that usually end each episode into their own standalone show. For the very first of these episodes, Joe & Ed fire off list of 10 superb TV Show Adaptations. Some are films adapted from TV shows, some are TV shows adapted from films. One is actually a TV show adapted from a TV show. Mind boggling. Being able to focus on the list on it's own unfortunately does not mean the boys are actually any more focused. During this episode, Ed dumbfounds Joe with details of the upcoming LEGO movie, the pair imagine a disgustingly profane alternative to The Avengers and Joe reveals what his confused, 11 year old self made of Twin Peaks when it aired first time around. As per usual, listen, enjoy, rate and review!
As a member of the comedy troupe The State, Michael Showalter co-created, -wrote, -edited and -produced an award-winning and critically acclaimed MTV series, a special for CBS, a book for Hyperion Press, and an album for Warner Bros. The State also toured the United States, and performed the sketch show "Molt" off-Broadway. In 2001, Michael starred-in, co-wrote and co-produced (David Wain directed) the feature film Wet Hot American Summer, a comedy about the last day of summer camp in 1981, starring Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Michael Black and many others. Wet Hot premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001, was released theatrically that summer, and is now a weekly midnight movie at the Village East in New York. (David Ansen of Newsweek called it the funniest film of the year.) After having spent the past year making W.H.A.S., Showalter and Wain began prepping a series of projects, including their next movie, "They Came Together," a spoof of romantic comedies, and a pilot of WET HOT for Fox-TV. In addition, they created numerous short films for various shows on MTV and VH1. Showalter and Wain then co-wrote (with Joe Lo Truglio) a play, "Sex, a.k.a. Wieners and Boobs," which completed successful runs in New York and Los Angeles. Showalter is also a creator and performer, with Michael Ian Black and David Wain, of STELLA, a comedy trio which has spawned a six-year running nightclub show in Manhattan, a series of short films, and a series on Comedy Central, which was named by Entertainment Weekly as one of the Top Ten TV shows of 2005. In 2005 he wrote, starred and directed his feature film debut THE BAXTER, a romantic comedy about the “wrong guy.” It was financed and distributed by IFC films. Following this, Showalter went on tour in the summer of 2006 performing stand up with Eugene Mirman and Leo Allen, as well as an East Coast tour with Michael Ian Black.
