Rob does lovely loaves crusted with corn meal, while Kris takes traditional soup recipes and explores how they can be expressed in novel and exciting ways. The choices also include some super tasty melts - like the extra garlicy Vampire Slayer - and an all-day breakfast. Watch chalkboard for daily specials and be delighted.

With Kessler determined to capture the British agent, Curtis must find a way out of Brussels as a great encirclement of the city begins... AJ and Andy finally reach the end of the first series and tackle matters as diverse as the relationship between Lisa and Curtis, the replacement of Brandt by Reinecke, and what Lifeline is doing outside at the end of the episode! Along the way they find much to enjoy: the ideas that Lisa and Monique come up with; the typically Vik Ritelis direction; and the sheer bravado of Curtis's escape. However, they also find themselves grappling with a historical dating issue and why Curtis doesn't understand that he can't just come back to Brussels! At the end of the episode we hear from Sophie who found her way to Secret Army via Buffy, the Vampire Slayer! You can find Sophie on Instagram @stanleybiggsclothiers. Please do let us know your thoughts on this or any previous episode. We will shortly be recording episodes on Series 2's early episodes, so message us about those too! You can contact us on Twitter @secretarmypod or by email on secretarmypod@gmail.com We will be back next month with an episode reviewing all of the first series of Secret Army. Thanks for listening! Sounding Cinema turns to the musical television episode! Erika Chagdes, Abbie McLaren, Caleb Payne, and Nathan Platte spotlight the unique and often comedic opportunities that arise when a TV series turns into a musical…for just one episode. By comparing “Once More, With Feeling,” the infamous musical episode from Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, with “Regional Holiday Music,” Community's glee-ful fiasco, we discover some ways in which TV musicals can teach us a lot about musicals and the episodic format of television itself. More about the team: Erika Chagdes graduated from the University of Iowa in 2024 with a BA in Cinema. She is excited to pursue a career in filmmaking. Abbie McLaren is a University of Iowa student with a double major in Cinema and Journalism and Mass Communication (production and design track). After graduating in 2025, she plans to pursue film professionally through work or graduate studies. Caleb Payne graduated from the University of Iowa in 2024 with a BA in Cinema. He plans to attend a graduate-level studio art program in the future. Samuel Ross, who provided original music, is a University of Iowa student drawn to both film and music. A Cinema major, Sam also composes, writes film music, and enjoys playing piano and bass. Oh, beloved scoobies!!! It may be said that we have never before worked together on a labor of love as fiercely and diligently as we have worked on writing our upcoming book: Slayers, Every One of Us. Today, we shared the shiny new cover with the world — designed by the team at St. Martin's with beautiful illustrations contributed by friend of the pod Devan Power!!! What's more, you can now PRE-ORDER your copy! As many of you already know, pre-orders are one of the most important pieces of a book's success!!! So, if you are interested and able, we would be so very grateful if you'd pre-order your copy in advance of the book's March 2025 release. Learn More at bufferingcast.com/book And hey, stay tuned in this feed, maybe? +++ More on the book: SLAYERS, EVERY ONE OF US A memoir reflecting on heartbreak, perseverance, and life lessons learned Buffy the Vampire Slayer, from the hosts of the hit podcast Buffering the Vampire Slayer. Kristin and Jenny's marriage started with an ultimatum: to further their relationship, Kristin must watch Jenny's favorite show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. With the terms set, they began a journey that has led them through seven seasons of the beloved genre show, a podcast rewatching the series with their newly minted listenership of "Scoobies," unexpected success, and a divorce. Through it all, their love for Buffy and their commitment to their community held them together against the odds. Slayers, Every One of Us is the story of how two queer women navigated divorce on a very public level and managed to stay in each other's lives through it all. While chock full of Buffy (and Buffering!) content for true fans, this is ultimately a memoir of queer love and chosen family. It's a heartwarming story for anyone who's experienced lost love, and a roadmap for staying close with your ex. “A heartfelt story . . . tender, funny, and totally charming.” —Gabrielle Korn, author of Yours for the Taking “Recently I found myself enchanted by a book about a podcast I didn't listen to, that recapped a TV show I'd never watched; a testament to how good Slayers, Every One Of Us is. We're live at sea! lizzie and Cindy recorded this episode onboard Cayamo, which is a singer/songwriter cruise that's been sailing yearly since 2008 and is one of the best music festivals we've attended. AND it's another edition of FOLK DEBATE CLUB. This time it's Community vs Capitalism! Our panel features Jenny Owen Youngs (musician and co-host of Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast, Buffering the Vampire Slayer), Amy Reitnouer Jacobs (Co-Founder / Executive Director of The Bluegrass Situation) and Natalie Dean (Director of Events at Sixthman, which presents Cayamo). We talk about both through the lens of folk music and the music industry at large. Community building amongst folk artists and fans in authentic and unique ways will help drive your passion. Organically finding community through event production, online presence or music promotion is at the core of folk culture. Community trust and cultural diversity are key in ensuring that folk music artists will thrive in our Capitalistic society. How do you build that trust among your audience in a way that allows them to build trust with each other? How do you stay true to your values while being able to pay for your life? How have musical community leaders cultivated their particular communities? Capitalism is our current reality, but it historically has not mixed well with Community. Clearly, one must be pursued vigorously more than the other! Or does it? Is there a way that these two can live side by side in folk music? If you are listening to this or reading this right now, I can make this assumption: You want to support music financially and with your heart. Music is something that sustains our lives, but it's also a profession and something people consume. Don't worry, we figure it all out in this episode of FOLK DEBATE CLUB AT SEA!Follow Basic Folk on social media: https://basicfolk.bio.link/ Sign up for Basic Folk's newsletter: https://bit.ly/basicfolknews Help produce Basic Folk by contributing: https://basicfolk.com/donate/ Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

In this episode, We discuss a controversial fictional character: Dawn Summers, little sister to Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. After explaining who she is and how she was included in the show, we consider the interactions she had with other characters and their opinions of her. Then we dig into some of the audience opinions of her that are out there, to see why she was even a character worth covering on this podcast. Finally we think about the world that Dawn shows up in, how she struggles with her role, her reality, and her grief when she loses those that she loves. And we suggest why maybe she doesn't need to be included on any of those “TV's worst character lists” after all! Grab your stake and crucifix pendant, we're going vampire-hunting! Well, vampire-etymology-hunting. The podcast Buffering the Vampire Slayer, which recaps the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode by episode, invited me to answer their listeners' questions of language that the show had provoked. Together with BVTS hosts Kristin Russo and Jenny Owen Youngs, I tackle the etymology of coven, vampire/vampyre, wigging out, the name Buffy and Bovril; as well as google as a verb, conlang on TV, and why Latin is so often the language of spells and spookiness. There are several swears in this episode. Find out more about this episode and some sources of the information therein at theallusionist.org/bufflusionist, where there's also a transcript.
