This week, Amy is joined by Angharad Ross, executive coach, seasoned commercial leader and self-proclaimed collector of difficult conversations. Together, they peel back the layers on why honest, clear communication is so essential in the food and retail industry, and why it's so easy to shy away from it. The duo dig into the neuroscience behind why we avoid “hard chats” (spoiler: your brain is just trying to protect you), how fight or flight responses can turn a cost-benefit discussion into a full-blown emotional event, and how practising these conversations—at work and at home—makes a world of difference.Angharad shares lessons from her years in FMCG, from getting thrown out of a retailer's office by security to learning how to read the room and know when to hit pause. There's a lot here for anyone eager to become a better negotiator, influencer, or just a braver communicator in their everyday work. Expect actionable tips: from prepping for meetings with empathy mapping, to using feedback models to open up conversations, to practical role play and visualisation exercises that calm the nerves.Amy and Angharad also discuss the power (and, at times, the dark side) of empathy—how too much can make you put others' needs miles ahead of your own, and how to find that sweet spot of honesty and mutual respect. The takeaway? To be clear is to be kind. Avoiding tough conversations is a recipe for resentment, confusion, and broken relationships—kindness means being up front, even when you'd rather hide under the duvet. So, if bold conversations make you want to run a mile, join us for this chat. You'll leave with the tools, mindset, and probably a laugh or two to start tackling the things you've been avoiding—at work and at home. Oh, and of course, you'll find out why commercial people really do get so much practice at “the big chats.” Timestamps 00:00:53 Introduction to Angharad Ross, her experience in FMCG, and the importance of difficult workplace conversations.00:04:06 Breaking the myth that only commercial people negotiate (spoiler: everyone does).00:06:35 Why brains fear tough conversations, plus the neuroscience behind it.00:08:16 Navigating fear, discomfort, and managing relationships at work.00:10:31 Reframing that “fight or flight” as a tool to communicate better.00:12:02 Practical tools: prepping, pausing, planning what to say, and the power of role-play.00:14:36 The importance of practising discomfort—on and off the job.00:16:28 Visualisation hacks for folks who hate role-play.00:18:11 Reading the room: knowing when it's time to pause a tough chat.00:20:02 How empathy mapping and prepping with curiosity helps (even if empathy isn't your default).00:21:19 Using feedback models to open up honest, non-defensive dialogue.00:23:40 The dangers of too much empathy: don't let your needs get lost.00:25:39 Redefining “negotiation” as collaborative problem-solving.00:26:43 Brene Brown wisdom: “To be clear is to be kind.”00:27:43The sweet spot of just enough prep—don't let nerves or procrastination win!00:29:54 Key takeaway: Be honest, clear, and kind in every conversation.Links and Resources:Website Link: https://fearlessfoodies.co.ukFB Link: https://www.facebook.com/thefearlessfoodiepodLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/thefearlessfoodiepodYou can follow us here on Instagram: @thefearlessfoodiepodFind Amy on Instagram or LinkedIn for further support with industry coaching and facilitation.Microsearch Laboratories sponsor the Fearless Foodie Podcast https://micro-search.co.uk/

How To Achieve and Have the Mindset of Success We hear it everywhere: “You need the mindset of success.” But what does that actually mean? And more importantly — how do you get it? In this episode of the Personal Development Unplugged podcast, I'll take you beyond the vague definitions and straight into a practical process you can use right now. We'll cut through the fluff and create a real mindset of success — one where your mind and body are fully aligned toward a specific goal. You'll discover how to: Get ultra clear and specific about what you really want (not what you don't want). Write it down in a way that seeds your unconscious mind. Identify the empowering beliefs that fuel your success. Step into the physiology and psychology of having already achieved your dream. Anchor it all with a simple word that triggers your success state whenever you need it. This isn't about “thinking positive.” It's about aligning your thoughts, feelings, and actions so you naturally move toward your goals. By the end of this episode, you'll not only understand what the mindset of success is — you'll have it. Key Takeaway: Success isn't vague — it's specific. Write it down, embody it, and live it. Key Takeaways (bullet points) Success without specificity is meaningless — define exactly what you want. Writing your goals down engages your unconscious mind and makes them real. Shift from “I don't want X” to “I want Y” to avoid reinforcing negatives. Empowering beliefs like “I've got this” or “I deserve this” fuel motivation. Visualisation plus physiology creates a success state you can step into now. Anchor your mindset with a single word to trigger confidence and focus anytime. Your Call to Action Share this episode with someone who's chasing a dream but needs a success boost. https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/462-how-to-achieve-and-have-the-mindset-of-success Shine Brightly

Can your mindset truly influence your health? In Yvonne´s personal experience the answer is Yes. Today, she explores the powerful connection between manifestation, visualization, and healing. Yvonne reveals how affirmations, gratitude, and visualization techniques supported her recovery from several health problems. Yvonne shares practical ways to harness the power of your thoughts and emotions and cultivate a positive mindset even when you are facing health challenges and help your loved ones to do the same. KEY TAKEAWAYS The existence of the mind-body connection is supported by neuroscience and research. Your mindset can play a significant role in your health and the healing process. Imagining positive outcomes and hearing encouraging words can support recovery from illness. When a doctor told her that a hole in her vein would not heal, Yvonne used a 7-step technique that included visualising. It worked, the hole healed itself, it disappeared. Visualisation is key. Use manifestation and visualisation to support your body and the doctor´s efforts to heal you. Dwelling on potential bad outcomes has the opposite effect. It pulls you down both mentally and physically. Even in the face of rare or difficult health events, maintaining a positive outlook and belief in healing is helpful. Preparing yourself mentally before medical procedures helps you to feel less anxious and can improve your overall experience of the treatment process. It is natural to worry that things are not going to work out for you, especially when you are ill. But you need to turn that on its head and imagine what things will be like when everything actually does work out. Both outcomes are possible, but only focusing on the positive one has been proven to support recovery. BEST MOMENTS "I don't have all the answers, but what I know for sure is this: if you are struggling with an illness... manifestation and following the seven steps will help you." "If you believe that you can manifest in the positive, I also do believe that you can manifest in the negative." "What you think actually impacts your physiology, it's impacting the cells in your body, right? There are studies on this." "The best thing is to prepare your mindset. And I know it's not easy." ·do your best visualise, see yourself coming out, hear the words of the doctor, keep those images imprinted in your mind.” "Here are three gratefuls for health… Everything always works out for me. My body is smart, it can heal. My body knows what to do." In an enlightening and intense discussion, I sat down with James Laughlin, a globally recognised high-performance coach and a seven-time world champion musician. Through our conversation, we explored the essence of peak performance, personal belief systems, and the integral role of habits in fostering success. James offered valuable insights into his journey and the mental and physical frameworks that cultivate true high performance. What You'll Learn: The Foundation of High Performance: Understand James's perspective on how true peak performance is about exceeding norms while maintaining healthy relationships and well-being—not just relentlessly pursuing success at the cost of everything else. Radical Clarity: Learn why getting radically clear on your wants and needs is crucial in defining your path and avoiding distractions influenced by external pressures. Belief Systems and Their Impact: Discover how intrinsic and extrinsic motivations shape our drive and affect our outcomes, and why fostering strong, empowering beliefs is key. The Role of 'Meds' in Performance: James introduces the 'Meds' concept—mental training, exercise, diet, and sleep—as a holistic approach to supporting high performance and general well-being. The Pitfalls of Traditional Education: We discuss how conventional educational systems may not always support creative or high-performing individuals, emphasising the role parents play in filling the gap. The Dangers of Quick Fixes: James explains why there are no shortcuts to peak performance and how high achievers cultivate success through habits, not hustle or luck. Influencing Neurotransmitters Holistically: Explore how habits like meditation, cold therapy, and exercise naturally enhance motivation by regulating neurotransmitters. Motivation and Success: Understand why purpose, mastery, and autonomy, as identified by Daniel Pink, are vital to sustaining motivation and achieving long-term success. Key Takeaways: High performance integrates personal wellness: James believes maintaining balance across all life's facets leads to sustainable success. Understand the 'why': Clarifying your motivations is critical in staying focused and aligned with your true goals. Intrinsic motivation carries greater longevity: Unlike rewards and recognition, personal fulfillment and passion drive deeper and more enduring engagement. Education needs flexibility: Traditional systems may stifle creative potential; external support can nurture expansive thinking. Slow and steady builds mastery: The discipline of practice, as highlighted through deliberate learning, is vital for true accomplishment. Holistic health habits matter: Simple practices like adequate sleep and proper nutrition form the bedrock of cognitive and physical performance.
