S7E21 went out Live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 23 May 2024. It was busy as always, something for everyone. Just a note, 4 min from the end when I say goodnight the mic cuts out for some reason so there is a short gap before the outro track, Imagine someone saying who the previous tracks were, and thanks for listening, and be careful out there. In Evolutions we continue to look at the evolution of the Foo Fighters, this week's track was ‘Learning To Fly'. The Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘The Reckoning'. The first one came from Dee Snider and the second one came from Halestorm. Immortals this week came from Deep Purple, the track was ‘Mistreated' off the Burn album. I doubt anyone will argue about its Immortal status. Richie Blackmore wrote it just before he left the band and David Coverdale sang it on the Burn album where this version comes from. Blackmore took it with him to Rainbow and Ronnie James Dia did it justice for many years. I had the pleasure of hearing Glenn Hughes do it solo on acoustic guitar with Kings of Chaos at Sun City. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘U'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. This week we had: Ugly Kid Joe – America's Least WantedUFO – Lights OutUriah Heep – Look at YourselfU2 – Achtung Baby Bomb Crocodile and Slow Panda's picks of the week were Dave Hause's ‘Pedal Down' and Dire Straits with ‘Sultans of Swing'. Good news on the Google Play Podcast issue if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down and forcing podcasters onto YouTube Music. I got a message from them kindly telling me that I could transfer all my Podcasts including The Story of Rock and Roll to the YouTube Music platform. It was dead simple it all moved across in about 30 seconds. All the TSORR shows are there and it all works great. You should get one too if you use Google for TSORR Podcasts. Just follow the steps. This week, we've got Wolf Hoffman of Accept back on The MetalSucks Podcast! During our discussion, we take a walk down memory lane to learn how he initially felt about the band's name, the trend of modern bands having hard to pronounce names, if he feels every new record is a discovery record for new fans or if adding to the legacy of Accept is the focus, and why releasing singles has very little merit in our genre. We also talk about Andy Sneap's opinion and important direction on modern Accept music, the necessary human contact when creating music for him, and why doing written interviews don't feel like much of a connection for artists. Brandon and Petar discuss how much we would consider a fair price for Chuck Schuldiner's Green B.C. Rich guitar, a ticket stub for arguably one of the worst days in heavy metal history, Jerry Cantrell's guitar going missing and then found, and our thoughts on if Marilyn Manson being sober makes a difference to fans at this point. Jerry talks with Accept guitarist Wolf Hoffman about the upcoming U.S. Tour.
Episode 42 of Season 5 kicked off at 19h00 on 20 Oct 2022. The show was live on Rebel Rock Radio and made up for last week's disaster after the lightning strike. Apologies again for that little abortion, it's nice to be back in control and with a new inverter to keep the load shedding at bay. The show kicked off with Accept and a track called “What's Done is Done' off The Rise of Chaos. Mark Tornillo on vocals and Wolf Hoffman on lead guitar. Then we took a listen to a band that was new to me called Dead City Ruins and a track called 'Preacher'. They've got four albums out and they hail from Australia. The classic rock flag flew for a while while we heard from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and ACDC before chilling to Audioslave with ‘Like a Stone' and then ‘Rats' from Pearl Jam. 'Like a Stone' hit a billion YouTube views this week so that was worth celebrating. We also checked out KISS with the seldom-played 'Do You Love Me'. This was off Kiss Alive IV and has Peter Criss on drums and Tommy Thayer on guitar, check out the interview I did with Tommy Thayer in the podcast list on 28 Nov 2019. What a nice guy. The Johnny Kongos classic 'Tokoloshe Man', recorded back in 1971, sounded great and stands up well as did another South African classic from a band called Big Sky. We got into the heavier stuff with Motorhead and UFO and from there it was guitar time and a track from White Lion called 'Fight To Survive' featuring the amazing Vito Bratta on guitar. The story of Mike Slammer's involvement with Warrant and Joey Allen, was briefly covered then we got into some metal courtesy of Claymorean and South Africa's own Infanteria out of Cape Town and some more local music with Jasper Dan and Black Bone Nation. This week the Punk came from the USA in the form of Green Day with 'Welcome to Paradise' off 1991's Kerplunk. We also heard a track, relevant to the whole world right now called "The Economy Is Suffering' by Anti-Flag. Dave Hause with his track 'Bearing Down' off Kick was a highlight for me and is pretty deep. In This Moment showed us all how good a rave could be if Maria Brink was running the show and we went heavy again with Parkway Drive and Megadeth. the show closed with Lamb of God and a track called 'Ditch' off their new album Omens. I said that we would play out with Slipknot but then changed my mind and did the LOG instead. Artists featured: Accept, Cancer Bats, Dead City Ruins, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, ACDC, Black Label Society, Joe Bonamassa, Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Godsmack, KISS, Judas Priest, Johnny Kongos, Big Sky, Motörhead, Warrant, Anti-Flag, Green Day, Claymorean, Infanteria, Black Bone Nation, Jasper Dan, Crowded House, Dave Hause, In This Moment, Marilyn Manson, Parkway Drive, Megadeth, Tribute To Leslie West, Wonderboom, UK Subs, My Chemical Romance, Lamb of GodThe Story of Rock and Roll. Wolf Hoffman, founding member and guitarist from German metal band Accept discusses the band's upcoming Fall U.S. tour which marks their first American tour in 10 years. Hoffman also discusses the legacy of the band and his musical influences growing up in Germany.
Episode 33 of season 5 aired finally at 19h18 on Rebel Rock Radio. Same as last week I could not connect to the server but this time I found some gremlins in the system and was able to sort it out. We kicked off with Guns ‘n' Roses, with Accept and Herman Frank in hot pursuit. Both those tracks featured Herman because back in 1984 when Restless and Wild was released he was on guitar with Wolf Hoffman. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden signaled the end of the metal for the next 10 minutes. From there we went all over the place, leaving the grunge in Seattle we moved to Ireland for The Boomtown Rats, London for Joe Jackson, then down under for some ACDC and a track called 'Giving the Dog a Bone' off Back in Black. Mutt Lange produced both the ACDC and the Boomtown Rats' The Fine Art of Surfacing. We had new stuff from Hell Fire and a track called 'Tortuga Nights' off the new album called Reckoning. Also new was a track called 'Yen' off the new Slipknot, which is being released one track at a time in the same way as Arch Enemy and Megadeth were. Speaking of both of those we checked them out as well. It was cool to toast the late great Taylor Hawkins and check out a track called ‘Rudy' off his EP Kota. It's got so many hooks it reminds me of Rabbitt. We went mellow with Dire Straits and a track called 'Lions' off the Live at the BBC album and then we went heavy again with a track called ‘Exiled From Earth' off the finally released album called 'Deceivers'. Arch Enemy is my current favorite metal band, Michael Amott and Alissa White-Gluz are killing it. By the end of the show, we had gone from Del Amitri to Parkway Drive and Nickelback to Soulfly. The UK Punk slot was great, and The Stranglers with Duchess really hit the spot. The Rodneys were lining up, god forbid. It was also great to hear Stiff Little Fingers with 'Nobody's' Hero and Simon McBride who is now in Deep Purple in place of Steve Morse made his TSORR debut with a rack called 'High Stakes'. We finished up with Rage Against the Machines cover of Devo's track ‘Beautiful World, Zack De La Roche literally oozes resentment at the end, don't be like Zack kids. All in all, it was a pretty mixed-up affair, in a good way. Artists featured: Guns ‘n' Roses, Accept, Herman Frank, Newsted, Hell Fire, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Boomtown Rats, Joe Jackson, ACDC, Santana, Dave Hause, John Mellencamp, Rush, All them Witches, Megadeth, Slipknot, Taylor Hawkins, Dirty Honey, Simon McBride, Dire Straits, Arch Enemy, Bring Me The Horizon, Nickelback, Hinder, The Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash, Mr Big, The Answer, We Are Harlot, Sixx A.M., Del Amitri, Parkway Drive, Soulfly, Rage Against The Machine

Episode 24 of season 5 aired at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio on 16 June 2022. It was workers' day and being a Thursday most people took the gap and the long weekend. It was incumbent on TSORR to provide the soundtrack to the jol. With that mission in mind, the show kicked off with the Thin Lizzy classic ‘Cowboy Song'. From there it was time for some Clutch off the wonderful Blast Tyrant album and a track dedicated to the Gupta Brotherc called 'Subtle Hustle'. From there we ended in a weird little bit where every song was about Moving On. George Thorogood got it started with 'Move It On Over', then we had two different songs called 'Move On' first by Walter Trout and then followed by Paul Stanley. Speaking of Paul Stanley it seems pretty certain that we are not going to see Kiss in SA. Thanks, Covid ☹ It was time for some metal so we moved on to Queensrÿche and Accept. The Accept track was called 'The Abyss' off Blood of Nations and featured an awesome little Wolf Hoffman bridge about 3 min in, check it out. Next, we went political and dedicated a song by The New Black called ‘Send in the Clowns' to the politicians. The hair metal days were celebrated as they always are on the show, this time with Ratt and Poison, Warren DeMartini, and CC de Ville showing exactly what the fuss was about. For the Metal, we had Slayer, Cradle of Filth, Testament, Megadeth, and Wolf. Tom Petty, Kid Rock and Pride & Glory gave us a bit of laid back, what I like to call, heartland rock. Pride & Glory was Zakk Wylde's outfir after he left Ozzy but before Black Label Society. The track 'Found a Friend' was dedicated to Athol and Margie who have been TSORR lifers since the show started in 2017. We didn't get any UK punk in this episode so that's pretty rare, instead we took a lightning tour around the world ending up in South Africa via Germany, Canada, Japan, Australia, and France . Oh, and of course, the new Kreator is out so we played a track called 'Crush the Titans'. We ended heavy with Kreator, Slayer and Slipknot, albeit mellow Slipknot with a track called ‘Snuff', with about 8 min left it made sense to go from Slipknot to Nickelback to Hinder, why the hell not it's only Rock and Roll and we like it. Cheers for now, catch you next episode. And Jaques got his drums.Artists featured: Thin Lizzy, Clutch, George Thorogood, Walter Trout, Paul Stanley, Queensrÿche, Accept, The New Black, Tesla, Ratt, Poison, Slash, Wolf, Joe Bonamassa, Megadeth, Marilyn Manson, Cradle of Filth, Testament, Audioslave, Stone Temple Pilots, Billy Talent, Blink 182, Kid Rock, Tom petty. Pride & Glory, Scorpions, Rush, Gary Moore, Loudness, ACDC, Gojira, The Black Cat Bones, Fokofpolisiekar, Kreator, Slayer, Slipknot, Nickelback, Hinder.
A 23 minute video that discusses how we have moved from what was a messy energy transition environment pre-Ukraine to a now full blow energy crisis era post Ukraine, catalyzed by Russia moving to pariah state status. US shale accounted for 70% of global oil supply growth last decade, but faces significant pressures to not grow as fast this coming decade from a combination of traditional investors due to poor historic ROCE, ESG investors focused on energy transition, and current US government policy that is obsessed with virtue signaling about the climate portion of energy and climate policies. US and Canadian oil supply is needed more than ever, especially given the very poor track record of oil supply from pariah states. I continue to emphasize that there is a difference between “good” barrels from the United States and Canada and “bad” barrels from Russia and Iran. Even the most die-hard climate activist should recognize that as we are transitioning, it is better for all aspects of energy and climate policy to prioritize US and Canadian oil and gas production over supply from unfriendly areas. ⚖️ DisclaimerI certify that these are my personal, strongly held views at the time of this post.

Accept are a band that needs no introduction.Through songs such as “Balls To The Wall” and “Metal Heart” they have taken a small musical movement in Germany to a global stage and continue to not only maintain their place atop the metal tree but also take their music to a new level with each passing album. With Accept’s sixteenth studio album set for release towards the end of this month guitarist and founding member, Wolf Hoffman, sat down with HEAVY to talk about Too Mean To Die and the band’s undeniable legacy in the realm of metal music."Oh I'm so nervous (about the album) you wouldn't believe it,” he laughed teasingly. “Nervous is the wrong word but I'm happy and anxious. Maybe anxious is the good word because I want people finally to listen to it because that is the purpose of working on it all these months and talking about it so much with journalists. At the end of the day, it's what the fans who buy this and the fans that come to the show and what do they think. I can’t wait for them to find out what it’s all about.”Too Mean To Die is a typically hard-rocking, guitar-driven album from the German masters, but Hoffman insists that despite their instantly recognizable sound, Accept has never been a band to follow set routines in the writing and recording process."Of course you try and never have a formula because that already sounds quite terrible (laughs). We just try to write a bunch of good songs that we're happy with and that's the album. Obviously, you want as much variety as you can - you don't want all the songs to be the same - and that’s what we did on this album. At the end of the day, it's not about the number of slow or fast or medium songs, it’s about how good is the song and that's the determining factor. You try to write a bunch of songs and then you decide on the 12 strongest ones."In the full interview, Wolf talks about the album in greater detail, writing a ballad of sorts, new guitarist Philip Shouse and what he brings to Accept, vocalist Mark Tornillo's growing role within the band, the early days of Accept, labelling of musical genres and where Accept fit and more.
Your riff boys are yet again touching ground on planet earth after a lengthy 144 days in Captain Beyond's Cosmic Space Station. Coming back as seasoned Monster Astronauts both Jon'o and Owlie-Steen celebrate their newly re-kindled connection with mother earth, by riffing - of course. Olle is picking from the box this episode, crash-landing into Michael Amott's pentatonic riff-dreams from Halmstad: Spiritual Beggars! A familiar band for the true Gain it for Riffer and this time it is an all-out feature! Simultaneously, in another time, Udo Dirkschneider and Wolf Hoffman were plodding down autobahn in an old Volkswagen or Lada, touring their steady beer-chugging hymns from bierstübe to kneipe, from Wacken to Dong Open Air. So get your riffsticks out of the closet and pour yourself a bland german weissbier and RIFF ON! #michaelamott #spiritualbeggars #spice #ludwigwitt #perwiberg #saveyoursoul #angelofbetrayal #escapingthefools #stoner #metal #euphoricrock #accept #udo #udodirkschneider #michaelwagner #wolfhoffman #princessofthedawn #autobahn #kraut #heavymetal #beer #oktoberfest #germany #sweden Enjoy! gainitforriffs@gmail.com
