This week Brian and Harrison kick things off with some footy chat, where they talk through Brian's thoughts on fans touching players and question if anything has changed with the AFL media's access to players since the new rules came in. Brian then dissects the state and federal budgets as well as the Tom Brady Roast on Netflix. Later, the boys are joined by Australian Surfing Legend, Mark 'Occy' Occhilupo. Occy, aka 'The Raging Bull' was the World Surfing Champion in 1999 and spent the majority of his professional career in the top 5 of the World Surfing (ASP) rankings. A a goofy-footer, he is known for his powerful and aggressive style. Over many years he developed a deadly forehand rail game and an equally lethal backhand attack, notably, his backhand surfing has been touted by some of the industries most respected identities as the best they have ever seen. Along with his incredible talent, it is his character out of the water that has made Occy such an iconic personally, he's fun, his attitude is infectious and he's just an all-round ripping fella. Occy's life hasn't been all rainbows and sunshine though, he's battled with depression and substance abuse since his early 20s, an illness which subsequently forced him to step away from professional surfing, a decision that at first sent him on a further spiral downward. Eventually, but not without failed attempts, he, along with the help of close friends and supporters, hauled himself bout of the darkness and into a better frame of mind, ultimately, leading to a World Surfing title at the age of 33. His story is undoubtably one of the greatest comeback stories in Australian sporting history. We thank Mark for sharing his story. Shaun is also a world-renowned leader, mentor, entrepreneur, environmentalist, and best-selling author. Today they're going to explore principles of decimal living from his most recent book, The Surfer and The Sage.   Episode Highlights 02:20 – Christopher asks Shaun to tell a little bit about his background, how he got into surfing and the World Championships. 04:15 – Shaun talks about his father who was South Africa's top swimmer and used to go to the Olympics. He became a world champion in many events around the world. 07:42 - There's a way to activate positive decision-making in this magic universe through the stroke of Science and Leadership, says Shaun. 10:02 - This book – ‘The Surfer and The Sage' is a continuation of philosophy that addresses the eighteen relentless, breaking waves of life, from loss and aging to relationships and depression, and guides you to transformation. 12:30 – Christopher wonders and enquires that as a Surfer and as an Environmentalist what has the ocean taught Shaun. 15:50 - Shaun mentions that his parents have had so much impact on him that it has been a source of service, a source of inspiration, and it's been the way he became the world champion. 17:00 - What have you learned in writing the book that can help the family deal with the anxiety that perhaps some are experiencing today? Asks Christopher. 19:20 - This book is a common book that will take you through some of the stories and philosophical interpretations of the story. 21:20 – Christopher was so fascinated as he was reading about forgiveness, humility, and courage in the book. Every chapter amongst the 18 chapters is focused on life are opposites. 25:30 - Was there a moment in writing this book where you learned something you had an aha moment something you hadn't realized before? Enquires Christopher. 27:50 – Christopher states that he loves that quote by Gupta from the book – “Whatever you can believe you can begin. Boldness has genius, power, and magic so that it connects with anyone." Three Key Points While everyone runs something different, we have defined this compulsion that we want to be better today than yesterday, and we want to be better tomorrow than we are today. The underline is, that we'll help others to be better which means to help others to be part of a wider community. ‘The Surfer and The Sage' is not a list of rules to follow that guarantee success, health, or wealth, but rather a collection of advice from two guides who have traveled far and wide and suffered deeply, but still look forward to tomorrow with faith and hope.  This is not just a book that talks about this concept of hope and this concept of optimism. This is a book that talks about faith, and darkness. It talks about forgiveness, but at the same time, it also talks about guilt. It talks about optimism, but it talks about pessimism as well. So we have to see these aspects in order to make a positive step forward. Tweetable Quotes “My primary mission is to help the world be a better place by making lives better.” - Shaun Tomson “After I retired from the church, I ended up working for Sony which worked for Patagonia for a couple of years, that was a wonderful brand.” - Shaun Tomson “The ocean has taught me so much about the basic principles of life.” - Shaun Tomson “At the beginning of the book, you say this world is too often, too broken for too many.” - Christopher Robbins “So the principal words have been stress, anxiety, depression, and disconnection.” - Shaun Tomson “You have to face the bitter too in order to know the sweet” - Christopher Robbins “That's the whole point that Familias assisted families, be happy individuals, families, whatever type of family you have.” - Christopher Robbins “I started with a statement that words have the power to change our mindset, and our lives.” - Shaun Tomson Resources Mentioned Helping Families be Happy Podcast  Apple Dr. Carla Marie Manly  Website  LinkedIn  Twitter   Instagram Shaun Tomson Website Instagram Twitter LinkedIn Podcast Editing

This is an incredible conversation with Layne Beachley, the 7 time World Surfing Champion. Her dedication to success saw her as the only surfer in history to claim six of those titles consecutively. However, with her natural and brutal honesty Layne shares how that wasn't without its consequences. You will also hear, that since retiring from professional surfing Layne certainly has not stood still. One of her recent focuses is her Awake Academy, which we discuss and explore, reviewing the lessons learned from her experiences and sharing that learning to help others through this program. For me the lessons from this conversation revolve around taking personal responsibility and ownership for things. It is about learning from others not copying them, as we are all coming from a different place and perspective. As I have said before, it is about the quality of questions that we ask, and then truly listening to the answers - whether we are asking those questions of others or of ourselves. If you want to know more about the Awake Academy you can check it out over at awakeacademy.com.au and if you do go through the program make sure you use the code INFINITE10 to get a discount. One of the main areas of my life I’ve been working on lately is who I am being on the inside. After all, what’s happening on the inside shapes and colours everything that’s happening on the outside. And, in some situations, the only thing we can control or change is who we are being internally. Today’s guest, Matt Griggs, has been one of the biggest inspirations in my pursuit of gaining a higher level of presence and wisdom as well as the ability to be a considered response instead of an emotion fuelled reaction. Matt is a high performance coach, hailing from Sydney. A former professional surfer himself, Matt has coached world champions, Australasian champions, published 2 best-sellers, coached and lectured on performance to many leading executive groups world-wide. Matt is at the forefront of performance coaching, having worked with Mick Fanning (2007/09 World Surfing Champion), Stephanie Gilmore (current and 4 x Women’s World Surfing Champion), Owen Wright (current World Tour surfer), first grade NRL players and many other elite athletes. Matt also teaches a unique meditation (Kelee) that helps people detach from disharmonious thoughts and emotions, so they may distill their natural ability to its purist point. During this chat, Matt shares about: - how our emotions are infectious - being open to everything effected by nothing - does he still react to other people and the environment? - becoming consciously aware - the importance of wisdom - survival of the wisest - how Kelee meditation can help now - how to stop looping through unhelpful processes - how to detach from and lose emotional buttons - why we seek outside comfort and what to do instead - why we need to give up control You can connect with Matt on instagram @mattgriggs and facebook at Matt Griggs coaching. Felipe was the first ISF (International Surfing Federation - ancestor of the WSL) World Surfing Champion in 1965. As an outstanding athlete, he has an incredible track record, and shares his experience of the day that changed the rest of his life. When Felipe describes what it's like to surf in the 60's, it's as if you're transported into a Slim Aarons photo.  In 1974 Felipe was training with his best mate Pitty Block and was unfortunately trapped in one of the biggest earthquakes Peru has ever had to face. As only a true surfer would do, they decided to risk their lives and surf the tsunami that followed. He tells us the story of this doomsday catastrophe and how he came out alive. Ps kids, don't do this at home! This and other terrifying experiences could have made Felipe give up big wave surfing forever, but as he said, "when the horse bucks you off, you have to get back on". Felipe has a life filled with adventure and adrenaline. It's not a surprise that at the age of 75 he still gets out every day for a surf. But, in fact, it was an autoimmune disease that triggered Felipe to look into alternative medicinal treatments and study longevity.  In the episode we talk about how Felipe still manages to be flexible, energized and ready to surf every day without second thoughts. There are some tips and really interesting things to take from this episode about longevity, and the use of high doses of Vitamins.  In fact, case in point, Felipe has become a longevity coach and co-founded an organisation called SurfTill100, that encourages people of all ages to develop a sustainable lifestyle. Obviously the objective is to surf till you're 100 years old. Felipe is a living breathing example of his remarkable findings. In fact, thanks to his astonishing regime, he beat his 1968 paddle race time by 2 minutes at the age of 70! This is the journey of a hero, and it's not over yet!! Felipe Pomar, Jeff Hakman and Tom Woods are the surfing legends that founded Surftill100 and you can subscribe to their newsletter even if you don't join them in Huanchaco next May. In any case, you can connect with Felipe and his mates at www.surftill100.com  There is an amazing amount of information to be taken out of this conversation, and Felipe is such a humble, adorable and radiant human to talk to. Felipe has Facebook but he has hit the maximum number of friends. In any case, if there's anything to take from Felipe's wisdom it's is leave your screen alone, and get out there! Now!  Thank you Felipe for being such an awe inspiring guest. Until next week, take care, have fun and enjoy the waves. Imagine the level of self belief and confidence you could create if you weren’t affected by the negativity of others and if you weren’t inhibited by your own fears. Matt has a 360-degree view of performance and brings his deeper understanding of health, happiness and high performance to everyone from professional athletes to businessman. I’ve decided to split this chat over two episodes because we went on for a while! I found his experience on the world stage for surfing as a competitor and coach incredibly intriguing, and then his understanding of the mind blew me away - especially when it comes to the meditation technique he uses, Kelee Meditation. In this first part of the interview Matt shares: * The ups and downs of winning and losing * Matt’s transition from a pro surfer to a coaching Mick Fanning * His wholistic approach to coaching * His proudest moment as a coach * Being open to everything and affected by nothing * The importance of detachment * He starts diving into Kelee meditation - which again, blows my mind. The app Matt mentions is Kelee Meditation. The book is Troubleshooting the Mind by Ron W. Rathburn.
