Send us a textThis week on the Wednesday Night Podcast, things get WILD. Our very own Joe, bless his heart, dives headfirst into the fascinating (and apparently adorable, according to him) world of Dire Wolves. Yes, those prehistoric behemoths that could probably swallow your chihuahua whole. But wait, there's more! Joe's research was conducted entirely while grooving to the iconic sounds of... you guessed it... Steppenwolf! We're not sure if "Born to Be Wild" inspired his fascination or just drowned out any sense of impending doom, but here we are.The rest of the gang, however, are having absolutely none of it. They spend a good chunk of the episode mercilessly mocking Joe's insistence on the "cute" factor of a creature with teeth the size of bananas. The conversation devolves into a hilarious debate about the plausibility (and sheer terror) of Jurassic Park-style consequences, with Joe firmly planted in the "nah, they'd be chill" camp.So tune in for tales of ancient predators, questionable musical pairings, and the comedic stylings of a man who clearly hasn't seen enough dinosaur movies. You might learn something, you'll definitely laugh, and you'll probably want to hide your small pets.Wednesday Night Podcast: Where the only thing scarier than a Dire Wolf is Joe's optimism.website: actonmusicproject.comemail: music@actonmusicproject.comCraig's phone number: (978) 310-1613

In the King of the Hill episode "Reborn to Be Wild," the clash between traditional and modern expressions of Christianity takes center stage. Hank questions whether a flashy, youth-oriented approach to faith truly fosters spiritual growth or just entertains, while Bobby gets caught up in the surface-level excitement of "extreme" Christianity. This week Josh analyzes this episode as to what is really important when it comes to these opposing dynamics. _____________________________________________________________________________Follow us:InstagramFacebookYouTubeTIkTok

"Our whole purpose is to create consistency and jobs... the next generation and the next will not have to endure what they had to." Dr. Jenny Nuccio Dr. Jenny Nuccio is the Founder and CEO of Imani Collective, a pioneering social enterprise and nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of generational poverty in Kenya. Initially started as a small sewing training program, Imani Collective now empowers hundreds of artisans through dignified work, opportunity, and community. Dr. Nuccio, a passionate advocate for sustainable development and women's empowerment, recently published her first book, Let it Be Wild. She is an inspiring figure who has lived in Kenya for over 13 years and continues to impact countless lives through her initiatives. Episode Summary: In this enriching episode of "Oh, My Health… There is Hope!" host Jana Short welcomes Dr. Jenny Nuccio, the visionary founder and CEO of Imani Collective. The conversation dives deep into Dr. Nuccio's transformative journey from San Antonio, Texas, to Mombasa, Kenya, highlighting her relentless pursuit to empower women and break the cycle of generational poverty. Imani Collective started as a modest sewing program and has since grown into a robust marketplace that offers its artisans stable jobs, holistic care, and consistent salaries. Jenny elaborates on the underlying purpose and impact of the Imani Collective, emphasizing the holistic care model that includes medical care, free childcare, and a food program. Her work provides sustainable income for women and instills a sense of confidence and self-worth in them. Dr. Nuccio's powerful discussion covers the importance of addressing educational inequities and the challenges women and girls face in Kenya, including period poverty and a lack of access to education. Key Takeaways: Empowerment Through Education: Jenny emphasizes the importance of educational programs that allow women to learn and become self-sufficient, touching on how Imani Collective teaches women to write their names and create marketable goods. Sustainable Development: The Imani Collective model prioritizes steady, monthly salaries over piecework to ensure the artisans' financial stability and growth. Community and Connection: Jenny shares insights into the deep sense of community and relationship-building in African culture, which significantly influences the work at Imani Collective. Impact of Social Enterprises: The conversation highlights how social enterprises can provide meaningful employment and drive long-term change in communities. Steppenwolf's self-titled debut album, released in 1968, is a landmark in the development of hard rock and heavy metal. The album features a gritty blend of blues, rock, and psychedelia, with raw vocals and distorted guitar work that set the tone for the band's rebellious sound. The record includes the iconic track "Born to Be Wild," which became an anthem for the counterculture and is often credited with coining the term "heavy metal." Other standout tracks like "The Pusher" reflect Steppenwolf's edgy and socially conscious lyrics, marking the album as a bold statement in late '60s rock.Listen to the album on SpotifyListen to the album on Apple MusicWhat did you think of this album?

John Kay and his band Steppenwolf were pivotal in shaping the rock music landscape of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Born in Germany in 1944 as Joachim Fritz Krauledat, John's journey to becoming a rock icon was filled with challenges and perseverance. John's early life was marked by adversity. He faced hardships in post-war Germany and immigrated to Canada as a teenager. His passion for music bloomed in the vibrant musical scene of Toronto. In the mid-1960s, he formed The Sparrows, which eventually evolved into Steppenwolf. The band's name, inspired by Hermann Hesse's novel 'Steppenwolf,' reflected their non-conformist ethos. In 1968, Steppenwolf released their self-titled debut album, featuring the iconic song 'Born to Be Wild.' This anthem not only defined the band's sound but also became a rallying cry for the emerging counterculture. John's gravelly vocals and the band's driving rhythms encapsulated the rebellious spirit of the era. 'Born to Be Wild' notably coined the phrase "heavy metal thunder," cementing its place in rock history and earning a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll. Following their breakthrough, Steppenwolf continued to produce hits like 'Magic Carpet Ride' and 'The Pusher,' both of which showcased the band's musical versatility and social commentary. Their fusion of hard rock, blues, and psychedelic sounds appealed to a generation seeking liberation and self-expression. Despite internal conflicts and line-up changes, John Kay remained the band's driving force. His introspective song-writing and distinctive voice contributed to Steppenwolf's enduring appeal. The band's albums, including 'Steppenwolf 7' and 'Monster,' further solidified their reputation as trailblazers in the rock genre. John Kay is also known for his involvement in philanthropy through the Maue Kay Foundation, which he co-founded with his wife Jutta Maue-Kay. The foundation is dedicated to supporting various charitable causes, particularly those focused on wildlife conservation, environmental protection, and supporting the rights of animals. John, as a passionate advocate for wildlife and environmental causes, has channelled efforts and resources into initiatives that aim to protect endangered species, preserve habitats, and raise awareness about environmental issues. Today, Steppenwolf's iconic front man is still involved in various musical and philanthropic endeavours. He continues to perform, occasionally touring and playing live shows. He rarely gives interviews anymore so I was particularly chuffed that he granted me some time to share his incredible story. I hope you enjoy this special episode. If you'd like to know more about John Kay and Steppenwolf head for https://www.steppenwolf.com If you'd like to request a guest - any artist from the 60s 70s or 80s that you would like to hear interviewed, please send me a message through my website https://www.abreathoffreshair.com.au

“Why would anyone want to learn the wild skills of our ancient ancestors today, when our lives are full of advanced technologies, quick conveniences, and the joys of instant communication? What could their Paleolithic wisdom have to offer us when a blockchain digital utopia is on our horizon?” That is the opening paragraph of the book Why We Need to be Wild: One Woman's Quest for Ancient Human Answers to 21st Century Problems and are the questions that author Jessica Carew Kraft sets out to answer during a five-year research project. While we can't cover the entire book in one podcast episode, in episode 108 of the Outdoor Minimalist podcast, I sat down to chat with Jessica about her book process, what inspired her research, and how we can aspire to rewild in our own lives. Jessica is an independent journalist trained in anthropology. She holds degrees from the University of London, Yale University, and Swarthmore College. Her reporting on health, culture, tech, and education has been published in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Forbes, San Francisco Chronicle, Politico, NBC News, KQED, and many other outlets. In mid-life, she became a naturalist and wild food forager. Formerly residing in Berkeley, she now lives with her partner, two daughters, and like-minded neighbors of various species in the forest of the Sierra Foothills. While the young people of Southern California were indulging themselves in the excesses of the late 1960's, God was busy rocking their world. The Jesus Movement was born and long-haired hippies started coming to Christ in a steady stream. Ed Underwood was part of that movement, and you will hear his story about that start to his present-day ministry. After stints as a firefighter and a commander in the Army tank corp., he attended Dallas Theological Seminary to get his Th.M., pastored several churches (including 21 years at the famous Church of the Open Door in Glendale, CA), and taught and teaches at Bible schools and seminaries. After retiring from the pastorate, he started the Recentered Group which helps churches reconnect to the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. A long advocate for the gospel of grace, Ed serves on the board of the Free Grace Alliance and has authored books about his story: When God Breaks Your Heart and Reborn to Be Wild. You can see these and many other resources on his website, https://www.recenteredgroup.com/. Listen to and share his fascinating story of God's life-changing grace.
Gurdip sits down with returning guest and longtime friend of the show Jaime Kay to review one of her all-time favorite collections of Elvis music, the 2010 CD release of the soundtrack for MGM's "Viva Las Vegas." In its time, VLV never had a proper soundtrack LP, only a single and an EP, due to disagreements between Colonel Parker and the movie studio largely over Ann-Margret's prominence in the film. But Sony's 2010 release offered a great, inexpensive "what if" album for fans, missing only the few non-Elvis songs from the movie. Jaime Kay also takes a round of trivia themed on her specialty, Elvis's love life, and they briefly give their thoughts on Ann-Margret's newest album, "Born to Be Wild," discuss new FTD announcements, her thoughts on Agent Elvis, and naturally, what's been going on in Jaime Kay's world since we last heard from her this past fall. Due to Jaime Kay's time restrictions on research, they omitted Song of the Week, but Song of the Week will be making its awaited returning for TCBCast 267!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS:“It's all happening!”If it sounds like there's a party going on, you're right, and you're invited to join the fun on this special episode of Rock is Lit. My rock ‘n roll bruthas Mac B. and Action Jackson, from The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast, and I talk about what makes a great movie soundtrack and our criteria for choosing the movies/soundtracks that made each of our top-four lists.
