1.22.2025 #RolandMartinUnfiltered: Federal Contractor Nondiscrimination EO revoked, ICE school raids, J6 pardon backlash The criminally convicted felon-in-chief dismantles affirmative action in federal contracting. I'll talk with Ron Busby, Sr. the President and CEO, of U.S. Black Chambers and Damon Hewitt, President and Executive Director of Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, about what this means for black contractors. Nearly two dozen states are suing the orange man, challenging his executive order that could revoke citizenship for children born in the United States. Elie Mystal broke down the executive order. He'll be here to explain why the order is unconstitutional, and I'll talk to an attorney from Human Rights First about their efforts to combat the order. The sweeping pardons for the Jan. 6 domestic terrorist are not sitting well with the police unions who supported the convicted felon. We will examine the backlash he is facing for disrespecting law enforcement officers he claimed to love. #BlackStarNetwork partner: Fanbasehttps://www.startengine.com/offering/fanbase This Reg A+ offering is made available through StartEngine Primary, LLC, member FINRA/SIPC. AI has been integrated into almost every aspect of our lives, from everyday software we use at work, to the algorithms that determine what content is recommended to us at home. While extraordinary in its capabilities, it isn't infallible and will open up everyone to new and emerging risks. Legislation and regulations are finally catching up to the rapid adoption of this technology, such as the EU AI Act and new Best Practice Standards such as ISO 42001. For those looking to integrate AI in a safe and ethical manner, ISO 42001 may be the answer. Today Rachel Churchman, Technical Director at Blackmores, explains what ISO 42001 is, why you should conduct an ISO 42001 Gap analysis and what's involved with taking the first step towards ISO 42001 Implementation. You'll learn · What is ISO 42001? · What are the key principles of ISO 42001? · Why is ISO 42001 Important for companies either using or developing AI? · Why conduct an ISO 42001 Gap Analysis? · What should you be looking at in an ISO 42001 Gap Analysis? Resources · Register for our ISO 42001 Workshop · Isologyhub In this episode, we talk about: [00:30] Join the isologyhub – To get access to a suite of ISO related tools, training and templates. Simply head on over to isologyhub.com to either sign-up or book a demo. [02:05] Episode summary: Rachel Churchman joins Steph to discuss what ISO 42001 is, it's key principles and the importance of implementing ISO 42001 regardless of if you're developing AI or simply just utilising it. Rachel will also explain the first step towards implementation – an ISO 42001 Gap Analysis. [02:45] Upcoming ISO 42001 Workshop– We have an upcoming ISO 42001 workshop where you can learn how to complete an AI System Impact Assessment, which is a key tool to help you effectively assess the potential risks and benefits of utilising AI. Rachel Churchman, our Technical Director, will be hosting that workshop on the 5th December at 2pm GMT, but places are limited so make sure you register your place sooner rather than later! [03:20] The impact of AI – AI is everywhere, and has largely outpaced any sort of regulation or legislation up until very recently. These are both needed as AI is like any other technology, and will bring it's own risks, which is why a best practice Standard for AI Management has been created. If you'd like a more in-depth breakdown of ISO 42001, check out our previous episodes: 166 & 173 [04:30] A brief summary of ISO 42001 – ISO 42001 is an Internationally recognised Standard for developing an Artificial Intelligence Management System. It provides a comprehensive framework for organisations to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve how they implement and develop or consume AI in their business. It aims to ensure that AI risks are understood and mitigated and that AI systems are developed or deployed in an ethical, secure, and transparent manner, taking a fully risk-based approach to responsible use of AI. Much like other ISO Standards, it follows the High-Level Structure and therefore can be integrated with existing ISO Management systems as many of the core requirements are very similar in nature. [05:45] Why is ISO 42001 important for companies both developing and using AI? – AI is now becoming commonplace in our world, and has been for some time. A good example is the use or Alexa or Siri - both of these are Large Language AI Models that we all use routinely in our lives. But AI is now being introduced in many technologies that we consume in our working lives - all designed to help make us more efficient and effective. Some examples being: · Microsoft 365 Copilot · GitHub Copilot · Google Workspace · Adobe Photoshop · Search Engines i.e. Google Organisations need to be aware of where they're consuming AI in their business as it may have crept in without them being fully aware. Awareness and governance of AI is crucial for several reasons: For companies using AI they need to ensure they have assessed the potential risks of the AI such as unintended consequences and negative societal impacts, or potential commercial data leakage. They also need to ensure that if they are using AI to support decision making, that they have ensured that decisions made or supported by AI systems are fair and unbiased. It's not all about risk - organisations can also use AI to streamlining processes helping to become more efficient and effective, or it could support innovation in ways previously not considered. For companies developing AI, the standard promotes the ethical development and deployment of AI systems, ensuring they are fair, transparent, and accountable. It provides a structured approach to risk assessment and governance associated with AI, such as bias, data privacy breaches, and security vulnerabilities. And for all, using ISO 42001 as the best practice framework, organisations can ensure that their AI initiatives are aligned with ethical principles, legal requirements, and industry best practices. This will ultimately lead to more trustworthy, reliable, and beneficial AI systems for all. [10:00] Clause 7.4 Communication – The organisation shall determine the internal and external communications relevant to the system, and that includes what should be communicated when and to who. [09:00] What are the key principles outlined in ISO 42001? – · Fairness and Non-Discrimination - ensuring AI systems treat all individuals and groups fairly and without bias. · Transparency and Explainability - Making AI systems understandable and accountable by providing clear explanations of their decision-making processes. · Privacy and Security - Protecting personal data and privacy while ensuring the security of AI systems. · Safety and Security - Prioritising the safety and well-being of individuals and the environment by mitigating potential risks associated with AI systems. · Environmental & Social - Considering the impact of AI on the environment and society, promoting sustainable and responsible practices. · Accountability and Human Oversight - Maintaining human control and responsibility for AI systems, ensuring they operate within ethical and legal boundaries. You'll often hear the term 'Human in the loop'. This is vital to ensure that AI is sanity checked by a human to ensure it hasn't hallucinated or result ‘drifted' in any way. [11:10] Why conduct an ISO 42001 Gap Analysis? What is the main aim? – Any gap analysis is a strategic planning activity to help you understand where you are, where you want to be and how you're going to get there. The ISO 42001 gap analysis will identify gaps and pinpoint areas where your AI practices need to meet the ISO 42001 requirements. It aims to conduct a systematic review of how your organisation uses or develops AI to then assess your current AI management practices against the requirements of the ISO 42001 standard. This analysis will then help you to identify any "gaps" where your current practices do not fully meet the standard's requirements. It also helps organisations to understand 'what good looks like' in terms of responsible use of AI. It will help you to prioritise improvement areas that may require immediate attention, and those that can be addressed in a phased approach. It will help you to understand and mitigate the risks associated with AI. It will also help you to develop a roadmap for compliance to include plans with clear actions identified that can then be project managed through to completion, and as with all ISO standards it will support and enhance AI Governance. [13:15] Does an ISO 42001 gap analysis differ from gap analysis for other standards? – Ultimately, no. The ISO 42001 gap analysis doesn't differ massively from other ISO standard gap analysis, so anyone who already has an ISO Standard and has been through the gap analysis process will be familiar with it. In terms of likeness, ISO 42001 is similar in nature to ISO 27001 in as much as there is a supporting 'Annex' of controls and objectives that need to be considered by the organisation. Therefore the questions being asked will extend beyond the standard High Level Structure format. Now is probably a good time to note that the Standard itself is very informative and includes additional annex guidance information to include · implementation guidance for the specific AI controls, · an Annex for potential AI-related organisational objectives and risk sources, · and an Annex that provides guidance on use of the AI management system across domains and sectors and integration with other management system standards. [14:55] What should people be looking at in an ISO 42001 gap analysis? – The Gap Analysis will include areas such as looking at the 'Context' of your organisation to better understand what it is that you do, or the issues you are facing internally and externally in relation to AI - both now and in the reasonably foreseeable future, and also how you currently engage with AI in your business. This will help to identify your role in terms of AI. It will also look at all the main areas typically captured within any ISO standard to include leadership and governance, policy, roles and responsibilities, AI Risks and your approach to risk assessment and treatment and AI system impact assessments. It also looks at AI objectives, the support resources you have in place to manage requirements, awareness within your business for AI best practice and use, through to KPI's, internal audit, management review and how you manage and track issues through to completion in your business. The AI specific controls look more in-depth at Policies related to AI, your internal organisation in relation to key roles & responsibilities and reporting of concerns, The resources for AI Systems, how you assess the impacts of AI Systems, The AI system lifecycle (AI Development), Data for AI Systems, Information provided to interested parties of AI Systems, and the use of AI Systems and 3rd party and customer relationships. [18:10] Who should be involved in an ISO 42001 Gap analysis? – An ISO 42001 gap analysis looks at AI from a number of different angles to include organisational governance that includes strategic plans, policies and risk management, through to training and awareness of AI for all staff, through to technical knowledge of how and where AI is either used or potentially developed within the organisation. This means that it is likely that there will need to be multiple roles involved over the duration of a gap Analysis. At Blackmores we always provide a Gap Analysis 'Agenda' that clearly defines what will be covered over the duration of the gap analysis, and who typically could be involved in the different sessions. We find this is the best way to help organisations plan the support needed to answer all the questions required. It's also important to treat the gap analysis as a 'drains up' review, to help get the most benefit out of the gap analysis. This will ensure that all gaps are identified so that a plan can then be devised to support the organisation to bridge these gaps, putting them on the path to AI best practice for their business. When did it become ok to globally debate someones gender? Put yourself in this woman's shoes and imagine your gender was getting publicly questioned and scrutinised, with people hurling abuse at you and telling you you're evil and not deserving. STOP the HARM NOWBackground informa/on, context and chronology of events: For those fighting racism in the North Kitsap School District In November you, NK families, were asked to come up with solutions to the problems your students and you are experiencing. As a member of the Poulsbo Latino community I was invited to support my community in coming up with viable solutions. A good place to start is by understanding the laws, policies and your rights. My role here today is to share these guiding policies and laws with you so that you can come up with viable solutions. I am also here to support your linguistic needs as an interpreter. I am not here representing North Kitsap or my current district, again, I am here as a community member. As I am not a representative of any district, I cannot answer questions regarding district work. Please follow 3210/3210P for investigation procedures, and investigate the English Language program, understand how it is currently operating, and make adjustments to comply with the law/s.STATEMENT: Parent - Volunteer - Some of the things I believe could improve.Having better communication with families in their native language.Having an EL para at every school to provide services to students on a regular basis as part of their day. The district took that away a couple years ago and the services have not been consistent or successful.Students would also benefit from a curriculum like the one that was being used when every school had an EL para. The curriculum worked well, and kids were exiting the program due to the increase in vocabulary and understanding of the English language.A designated classroom would be ideal. Many EL kids use resources around them and for that reason they are always aware of what is going on around them. Working in the hall creates lots of distractions and is not a very healthy learning environment. You are seen as being "different" or being left out because communication is a problem. I understand the frustration of the families not speaking the language and not receiving support in their native language.I hope for the best outcome for these kids and families. It's time they receive what they are entitled, deserve and need. It's time for Equity.I ask the district to immediately address the English Language program in North Kitsap Schools, and utilize the EL resources we currently have, communicate with parents on how they can support their children and the district, and engage the solutions presented." To Whom It May Concern, I am writing in response to the lack of action taken by the North Kitsap School District after repeated and clear reports of racist incidents amongst the Latino students, a lack of equal and just access to Education for English Language Learners, and refusal to act to create a culture of acceptance, belonging that includes educating staff on nondiscrimination. As a mental health therapist in the state of Illinois, our school districts would never ignore the complaints and concerns this community have brought to your board and would have already made swift and significant change and have educators in place to teach teachers, staff and administration ways they can create a safe learning environment and easy access to learning for all students. It is well researched and documented that student who attend schools where they do not feel safe from bullying and harassment and have no source of protection or support simply do not learn in these environments. They will often remain in a dysregulated state emotionally and their bodies will remain on high alert to protect themselves from possible attacks and harm. A safe environment is a prerequisite for productive learning (Maslow, 1970; Piaget, 1936). If students feel unsafe at school, they may be less likely to go to school at all, or less able to focus on learning while at school. Your job as an administration is to create the kind of environment that is conducive to learning. I am sad and angry that this has been an ongoing issue and that there is such a lack of movement to make corrections, come alongside the parents and students and to start a coordinated plan of action help create significant change. I am asking that you listen to those who have concerns and the ideas they are presenting to help their kids be safe and the parents have appropriate was to communicate concerns with quick responses. Self-transcendence involves transcending judgments, biases, and preferences, and embracing an inclusive and compassionate perspective towards all beings. Like the sun that shines impartially, we can cultivate a mindset that recognizes the inherent worth and interconnectedness of all life. Actionable item: Practice acts of kindness and compassion towards others without discrimination. Engage in inclusive conversations, offer support to those in need, and extend empathy to individuals from diverse backgrounds or viewpoints. Journaling prompt: Reflect on a recent experience where you demonstrated unconditional acceptance or compassion towards someone. How did it contribute to your self-transcendence? How can you further cultivate a non-discriminatory and inclusive mindset in your daily life?

Previously, the practice of "watchful waiting" was applied to see if a child would grow out of their obesity but "Waiting doesn’t work," according to Dr. Ihuoma Eneli, who co-authored the first guidance on childhood obesity in 15 years from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Associated Press reports. "What we see is a continuation of weight gain and the likelihood that they'll have (obesity) in adulthood," Eneli continued. Eneli is the director of the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition at Nationwide Children’s Hospital located in Columbus, Ohio. According to the Columbus Dispatch, Columbus' Childrens Hospital has spent 3.3 billion in recent additions to its complex. The guidance contains specific diets, exercises and other behavior and lifestyle interventions, as well as specific ages at which specific treatments can and should be offered. Medications for kids as young as 12 and surgery for kids as young as 13 are now the recommendations in order to stave off the worsening obesity problem that affects more than 14.4 million young people in the US and is responsible for myriad health problems, including high blood pressure, diabetes and depression. The goal is for the new guidelines to change the way that obesity is viewed, so that its not just seen as "a personal problem, maybe a failure of the person's diligence," said Dr. Sandra Hassink, another co-author of the guidance. "This is not different than you have asthma and now we have an inhaler for you," she added. The guidelines also take into account that obesity is often affected by biological factors, and that it's not just a lifestyle problem. Obesity affects close to 20 percent of US children and teens, and around 42 percent of adults. The new guidelines come at the same time as a new obesity drug for children is approved for use. Wegovy, a weekly injection for use in children ages 12 and older, has been shown in trials to be efficient for teenages, reducing their BMI by around 16 percent on average. The drug affects the communication between the brain and the stomach, enabling the user to feel more full than they otherwise would be. https://hotair.com/jazz-shaw/2023/01/15/how-badly-did-we-overcount-covid-deaths-and-hospitalizations-n523940 How badly did we overcount COVID deaths and hospitalizations? We’re still only on the first steps of the road to learning how badly the COVID pandemic was handled by the government, the media, and, well… pretty much everyone. But the veil is slowly being lifted regarding some of the unforced errors that were made. Even the legacy media is starting to admit that a serious math error took place alongside the many other errors being discovered. Specifically, the total count of COVID hospitalizations and deaths being reported was obviously far higher than it should have been. At Townhall, our colleague Sarah Arnold reports that a CNN medical specialist and Washington Post columnist has been allowed to speak the truth. Many of the people hospitalized “for COVID” sought medical care for entirely different reasons, and many of the dead did not actually die from COVID or anything related to it. Nearly two years after the Covid-19 pandemic, CNN medical analyst and Washington Post columnist Dr. Lena Wen admitted that hospitals were exaggerating the number of deaths they claimed was from Covid. Titled, “We Are Over-Counting COVID Deaths and Hospitalizations. That’s a Problem,” Wren acknowledged that “90 percent of patients diagnosed with COVID are actually in the hospital for some other illness.” “Since every hospitalized patient gets tested for covid, many are incidentally positive,” Wren wrote, citing Robin Dretler, an attending physician at Emory Decatur Hospital. As Sarah points out, while this admission may be a welcome step toward setting the record straight, it’s coming out two years too late. Those death and hospitalization figures were used to justify all manner of government overreach and oppression. Learning these facts now will not do anything to change the past. So how could the math possibly have been so wrong? That’s easy enough to explain. Every patient or body showing up at a hospital or a morgue was tested for COVID. If the test came back positive, that person was added to the count. So a nearly asymptomatic person who was hit by a car and died was added to the death toll. A patient admitted to the hospital with a knife wound to the stomach who tested positive was listed as another “COVID hospitalization.” It’s not as if at least some of us didn’t already know this. There were people, including leading doctors and virologists, who were talking about this all through 2021. Or at least they were trying to talk about it. You didn’t hear a peep about this on MSNBC or CNN unless it was a segment calling out “misinformation.” Dr. Robert Malone, an actual mRNA vaccine research scientist, was banned from Twitter for trying to bring up this issue. (He was reinstated after Musk took over.) Keep in mind that we’re talking about the period in 2021 when the virus was still running wild. Pandemic porn was at a premium on cable news outlets and in the larger newspapers. Andrew Cuomo was still giving his Emmy-winning (later rescinded) daily pandemic updates and being touted as the nation’s “shadow president.” CNN kept a running count of the deaths and hospitalizations in the upper right corner of the screen 24/7 no matter what story they were currently covering. There are going to be a lot of people with much to answer for when all of this is said and done. Will any of them be held accountable? Don’t hold your breath. (And if you do hold your breath for too long, you’ll probably be taken to the emergency room and counted as another “COVID hospitalization.”) https://dailycaller.com/2023/01/15/hiding-gender-transitions-schools/ The Country’s Biggest School Districts Are Explicitly Hiding Kids’ Gender Transitions From Parents The nation’s largest school districts are implementing policies that require educators to keep students’ gender transitions a secret from their parents. Los Angeles Unified School District, Chicago Public Schools and New York Public Schools are promoting practices and policies that hide a student’s transgender status from their parents. The policies have become a cultural flashpoint amid a battle over the role parents should play in their child’s education, and the extent to which gender ideology has infiltrated K-12 classrooms. Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest school district in the nation with 565,000 students, has a “Gender Identity and Students – Ensuring Equity and Nondiscrimination” policy that tells educators to be mindful that a student may have not told their parents about their change in gender identity and be careful not to reveal the child’s gender status. Educators are advised to not reveal a student’s gender identity unless the student wants because the parent may not be “supportive of the student.” Chicago Public Schools, which enrolls about 340,000 students, has a “guidelines regarding the support of transgender and gender nonconforming students” which requires a “student administrative support team” to coordinate action and support for transgender and gender nonconforming students. Parents are not required to be notified or involved in the process of the child’s transition at school, the guidelines stated. The New York City Department of Education which oversees New York Public Schools, with more than one million students, released guidelines and protocols for transgender students that advised educators that some students do not want their parents to know about their gender status. Students do not need parental consent or a court-ordered name and gender change before changing their name and pronouns at school. Montgomery County Public School in Maryland, which enrolls about 160,000 students, has a “Guidelines for Student Gender Identity” that stated that students have the “right” to keep their gender transitions a secret from their parents. Educators must “respect the right of students to keep their gender identity or transgender status private and confidential.” Upper Moreland School District in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, added a “Code of Conduct” for the 2022-2023 school year which tells elementary school teachers that they should not share if a student has or is making a change in their gender identity with the student’s parents unless instructed by the child. A presentation to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District Board of Education, which enrolls about 134,000 students, detailed district policy that stated that a student can request a name or pronoun change at school without parental consent. He called the situation at the border a "national crisis," and said New York has "no room" for more migrants. Adams said Friday that New York City, which has proclaimed itself a "sanctuary city" is at its "breaking point" as record numbers of illegal migrants continue to arrive in the Big Apple. Over 3,100 migrants seeking asylum showed up last week, with more than 800 arriving on Thursday alone. Adams has said "there's no room at the inn." According to Fox News, the mayor submitted an emergency mutual aid request to New York State this weekend for immediate assistance to shelter the illegal migrants. Thousands of illegal migrants have been bused to New York City by the city of El Paso, as well as by the state of Texas since last year. The City has a right to shelter law in place, meaning that anyone who seeks shelter will be granted a place to sleep. This law was made with New York's average number of homeless in mind, and New York simply does not have enough shelter for the huge increases they are seeing. Sunday afternoon, Adams spoke at a press conference alongside El Paso Democratic Mayor Oscar Leeser, saying, "We’re pointing the finger … at our national government. This is a national problem. We must have real immigration reform, and we must immediately have a short-term fix of making sure that the cost of this does not fall on our local cities." Adams added that the illegal migrants are given a false impression from websites before they travel that The Big Apple is "paved with gold" and that they will be “given employment" when they arrive. "Our cities are being undermined. And we don’t deserve this. Migrants don’t deserve this. And people who live in the cities don’t deserve this," Adams continued. "We expect more from our national leaders to address this issue in a real way." https://www.foxnews.com/politics/san-frans-reparations-committee-proposes-5-million-each-longtime-black-resident-total-debt-forgiveness San Fran's reparations committee proposes $5 million to each Black longtime resident, total debt forgiveness San Francisco’s reparations committee has proposed paying each Black longtime resident $5 million and granting total debt forgiveness due to the decades of "systematic repression" faced by the local Black community. The San Francisco African American Reparations Advisory Committee, which advises the city on developing a plan for reparations for Black residents, released its draft report last month to address reparations – not for slavery, since California was not technically a slave state, but "to address the public policies explicitly created to subjugate Black people in San Francisco by upholding and expanding the intent and legacy of chattel slavery." The draft plan includes a long list of financial recommendations for Black San Francisco residents, including a one-time, lump sum payment of $5 million to each eligible individual. To be eligible for the program, the applicant must be 18 years old and have identified as Black or African American on public documents for at least 10 years. They must also prove at least two of eight additional criteria, choosing from a list that includes, "Born in San Francisco between 1940 and 1996 and has proof of residency in San Francisco for at least 13 years," and/or, "Personally, or the direct descendant of someone, incarcerated by the failed War on Drugs." The plan also calls on the city to supplement lower-income recipients’ income to reflect the Area Median Income (AMI), about $97,000, annually for at least 250 years. The plan also seeks to establish "a comprehensive debt forgiveness program" that clears each eligible person’s student and housing loans, credit card debt, etc.

When most people think of Philly and history, they think about the Liberty Bell. But there's a tour company that goes way beyond that. Beyond the Bell Tours offers walking tours of women's and queer history in Philadelphia. Rebecca Fisher, co-founder and tour guide, joins Research Hole to take us on a Pride-themed journey of the queer community's fight for civil rights in Philadelphia. It ranges from marches of people wearing respectable suits to civil disobedience with giant witch puppets. We talk about Barbara Gittings, pre- and post-Stonewall actions, and how fights over identity politics are endless. Happy Pride, y'all! SHOW NOTES: I found a wonderful audio clip of Kiyoshi Kuromiya talking about his life of activism on Them.us. The other “one-dress lesbian” I referred to was Anna Howard Shaw. I don't know if she actually only owned one dress—what I meant was that she stopped wearing pants because she felt comments on her appearance was distracting from the cause. Her obituary from the New York Times in 1919 does a pretty good job of giving an overview of her complex role in the suffrage movement. You can find a great rundown on John Fryer (Dr. Anonymous) and his historical marker sign (which you can go to 13th and Locust Street and take a pic with) on WHYY.org. The page includes a pic of Fryer with the mask on. Sadly, in the photo he is sitting and not standing at his full height. Philly Gay News article “Philly's First Attempt at Nondiscrimination” takes an in-depth look at the fight for Bill 1275 and the role of Dyketactics in that fight. The Barbara Gittings Wikipedia page is a pretty thorough biography. If you want a briefer roundup of her many contributions to gay rights, you can find a sort of paragraph-long list on Legacy Project Chicago. We don't explain OutFest on the podcast itself, but it's a block party in the leadup to National Coming Out Day in October. Visit researchholepodcast.com to see the pictures!
Ms. Evanna Hu, CEO of Omelas and nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, explains the mission and work of the Asian American Employees for Nondiscrimination. She wrote a pwoerful article last year describing the driscrimination federal employees of Asian or Pacific Islander descent face. You can find her aricle here. To join and support the work of AAFEN to help ensure ALL federal employees can do their jobs without fear of discrimination, head to their webiste. More about the organization, in the founders' words: Asian American Federal Employees for Nondiscrimination (AAFEN) is an advocacy group that seeks fair and equal treatment and inclusive representation of Asian Americans in the federal government. AAFEN membership is open to former and current federal government employees, contractors, armed service personnel and grant recipients, as well as interested stakeholders. AAFEN members have honorably served in the U.S. armed services, worked in national security, represented U.S. interests abroad as diplomats and advanced U.S. research in STEM fields. AAFEN was founded in January 2020. Our Mission Asian American Federal Employees for Nondiscrimination (AAFEN) addresses discrimination within the federal government under circumstances where Asian American employees, contractors, service members and fund recipients come under suspicion as national security risks due to their ethnicities or national origins. AAFEN provides affected parties with resources, as well as opportunities to share their stories with policymakers, the media and the public. Our Vision We envision a federal government workforce that represents the broad diversity of the American people. Race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender and sexual orientation should not be barriers to entry into federal service, nor should they hinder assignment or promotion within the U.S. government. Diversity is the strength of our nation, not its weakness. We envision a federal government that recognizes that those who have a relatively recent immigration history, such as Asian Americans, are no less American than the immigrants who arrived during earlier eras. We envision a federal government that honors and celebrates any government employee's commitment to American ideals. We envision a federal government that recognizes any employee's willingness to serve as a fair measure of loyalty, and understands that ties to a country of origin by an employee, their parents or grandparents does not automatically constitute a national security threat. We envision a federal government wherein targeted monitoring programs that scrutinize employees based on race or national origin are eliminated. We envision a federal government's wherein trust in federal employees is not unmoored by the changing tides of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and other nations. We envision a workforce of federal employees who are treated equally in all employment actions. We envision a federal government that incorporates diversity, equity and inclusion practices throughout its operations. We envision a federal government wherein government representatives cannot take shelter behind governmental immunity when they intentionally discriminate. We envision a federal government wherein government senior officials are bound to safeguard protected classes against disparate impact from policies, practices and regulations. We foresee a federal government where Asian Americans build long-lasting careers, rise to top-level, decision-making roles, reinforce a positive work climate and mentor emerging professionals. We foresee a federal government that receives a return on its investment, and agencies achieve higher levels of cultural competency to serve the American population, which is undergoing rapid demographic changes. We envision a federal government wherein employees whose jobs depend on security clearances, or access to classified materials, are evaluated via clear adjudicative guidelines, especially with respect to “foreign influence” and “foreign preference,” by agents whose decisions are subject to independent oversight by a body outside of the national security enterprise. We foresee a government wherein employees whose security clearances are under review have timely access to information to enable them to represent their positions and to preserve appeal rights, as well as to preserve their future employment in the federal government while their cases are pending. We are committed to forging a federal government workforce which, during times of heightened national security concerns, does not compromise the civil rights and civil liberties of its citizens. We are committed to creating a federal government that is trusted by all communities it serves. Recommendations Security clearance reform Data transparency Independent and timely appeals process Diversity hiring, promotion and retention Diversity, equity and inclusion practices

By August of 1996, we were breaking ground for the construction of the Guadalupe Resource Center where our ministry has flourished. We now operate radio 37 stations that reach a potential listening audience of twenty million souls. The Guadalupe Radio Network is the largest EWTN affiliate in the USA.
